Patents I think are part of the problem, coupled with a lack of investment and a small market. Some tech might hit the market or get weak sales projections, then drop out when they don't see a return. Blitabs been selling a lot of hype to investors at conventions for awhile, although I doubt it will get far as a product especially with the APH [Graphiti] around the corner.The [Braigo Printer] seems promising though, he made his first lego version [open source] so for around $350 you can build your own mini-braille printer right now. Don't really understand why his second commercial version has to have IoT wifi to the cloud and social media crap though, would think it would be better to make a basic printer and build addon packages off that, oh well.Historically there's also [this] mechanical multi-row display from 2009 build off the concept of a music box, and more recently mechanical braille cells [here].

Since about 2000, I've held the belief that both Norton and McAfee are garbage and won't go anywhere near either of them. Once installed on your computer, they are harder to get rid of than the viruses they're supposed to protect against.@dracI don't recall, probably Google Chrome and a Google toolbar for Internet Explorer, or something like those, and yes they offer an opt out, but as I recall they weren't readily accessible, I had to change to object browsing to get to the controls to uncheck them.

1. The underlying sound engine will clone sounds that are already in memory, to save on load time during game-play. Preloading is loading the sounds for which this matters at the beginning.2. Avoid global variables the same way you would in any other programming language: classes and properties. However, I'm not sure if the reason for avoiding global variables really applies in BGT, since it is not multithreaded. Still, I'd avoid global variables on the off chance you want to port to something mainstream later.3. The source is the point from which the sound plays. The source is basically the sound you're playing. So, if an enemy is making a sound, source_x and source_y are enemy_x and enemy_y respectively. You'll probably want classes which make sound to use a method to save you from typing all of this more than a couple times, since it's the most common usage.

How to Handle Sounds in BGT

Hi, so I am making my way through the BGT tutorials, and I have been able to create a couple of my own modules, for handling speech, and menus, but I still don't have a good grasp on how BGT is handling sounds. I have looked at a couple examples of how the sound_pool class is used, and the documentation, but it still just doesn't feel right to me. Perhaps different words and more examples will help. Here is a couple questions that I have:1. What is Preloading sounds  mean? I have seen this on the forms a couple times, as well as in the documentation, but I am not sure if I fully get the purpose, and the application for this.2. Is there a good way to load sounds without using global variables? I am a computer science major, and in all of my classes thus far have encourage avoiding using global variables because it is bad design?3. What is the listener and source? In the play methods, the documentation talks about listener and source
 sp; positions, but it doesn't exactly explain anywhere I saw what these mean. I am guessing listener means the person playing the game, but I don't know about source.TJ Breitenfeldt

What impressed me about the walker app was the detail about bus stops and stairs and stuff. The trekker doesn't have anything like that level of detail. I was wondering how it knows about elevators and stairs. Does it have access to layouts of building interiors too? I was also curious about what you were using as a mobility aid during the podcast. It didn't sound like you were using a cane or a dog. Do you use any aids of that sort?

Nah, and as I said in post 9, I don't know that it personally says anything about the platform that they're an immature bunch; to my knowledge the reason security software detects their product as malware has more to do with the way they allow information like audio to pass from one system to another.Provided you don't get on anyone's case and break rules and the like you should be fine; I just have no interest in their small games or a fair amount of the overall crowd that hangs out on the platform, anymore than I care much for the general crowd on QC... I usually find myself setting up games up before we ever enter the client in question then making tables private or password protected because of it.  I just don't like playing with people who vanish halfway through a game, or who get absolutely angry and quit the game at the halfway point or whatever point it is they realize they're going to lose, or, that one person who feels the n
 eed to bombard me with audio clips when they could just as easily use skype or TT but who doesn't want to go outside their comfort zone and expects me to reply via audio as well.  Don't get me started on the real creepers though; that'll be a subject I'll rant and rave about like you've never seen.  :d

When I got this computer about 3 years ago in September 2013, it had f-secure pre installed on it, I got it from an organization so they pre installed allot of stuff on the computer. And unfortunately, it was about 99% inaccessible. Now I have Microsoft Security Essentials, which is great and accessible, also, when I had f-secure installed and tried to install some games, like the lighttech games, it claimed that it was a threat and promptly got rid of the game as I installed it, which sucked, which of course meant that I was unable to play those games that my antivirus thought was a threat to my system, and they certainly are not.

Unfortunately there is no such thing as an anti virus that will catch all threats, a virus scanner like that is for the clueless, for everyone else, a good anti virus like Microsoft Security Essentials or Windows Defender and some common sense is enough to keep the nasties away.And for the biggest threat to your system, the internet itself, always running your browser in a sandbox is an excellent defense against what does slip through.I stopped supporting CCleaner when they went commercial, besides not being fully accessible without jumping through hoops, they pollute their installer with crapware nobody wants that will be installed on your system if you aren't carefull. Kind of ironic isn't it? CCleaner used to be all about keeping the crap out of our systems, and now they have done a complete 180 and are pushing crap on us with their installer!And finally, what will you replace Windows 10 with? Didn't Microsoft say that Windows 10 would be the

Those attacks are another thing that i didn't really want to mention as it always causes drama, but yes, they are extremely immature. Now before people start complaining, there are no viruses on rs and you have no reason not to play it, this is just what a member of rs staff did to another platform. Regarding rs being quick play, that's certainly fine, but their website says they also provide complex board games which i fail to find, unless battleship is considered complex which is another definition of complex then. Advertisements i personally don't really mind, and i certainly wouldn't if they did update other things besides advertisements  and it's not that i'm just complaining, rs definitely has nice things including background music, better sound design than playroom in my opinion, and other things which leave them a lot of unused potential..

Thumbs up on 13.  Malware Bytes and super anti spyware are both worth checking into if you're going to run MSE/windows defender, particularly since A, they're the only two pieces of security software I've seen that can run along side dedicated AV, and b, because both are so simple that you can overlook the accessibility issues in them.  It's worth mentioning little tools like CCleaner in this topic concerning security, because once you delete malware of any kind you really want to run a registry cleaner to get rid of any remnants security software overlooks.

My personal dealings with the RS-Games team has been less than enjoyable; it's admins have lost their sense of direction or probably never had it to begin with, their client is more or less a rather annoying advertising platform, and I have it from a trusted source that at least one of them gets up to some malicious hacking exploits including DDoS attacks against other servers.  What does that say about the platform?  I don't know, but I haven't used it in a few years.

Really should go do some swamp related things; I haven't done it for so long now I'd be rusty and zombie bait upon sight... er, smell?Puzzlewood didn't hold any interest for me this year; from what I heard, even a bunch of high level players were dropping like flies and dying almost instantly, so I sat it out almost completely.  I tried one wave on my own, got to mob 2, and then I nearly died myself; all that to say that last year's was way way better.

Lol! Rachel, you've actually got something there with the programmable chips. That actually is where nfc, the same technology used for tap-and-pay terminals, has great potential. They would have to make the communication field farther out, but if that could happen, nfc chips could most certainly be used. I know standard nfc chips are really cheap, and definitely cheap when bought in large quantities. What you reminded me of was the aware app, which received information from beacons. The beacons probably use the same nfc protocol, but are far-field enough that a person could walk past and hear the message. It was beta tested at the Chicago Lighthouse which is how I heard of it, and I did ask and it apparently costs 400 bucks for a building to install a set of beacons, but that may change once they've been around long enough. With that in mind, since the app relies on the installation of beacons, the aware app itself is completely free for end users.

I don't think this has much to do with capitalism/welfare so much as it has to do with the design issues related to braille. Braille innovations fail because it's expensive to produce the technology and its hard to teach new people new braille. I used to be kind of immature on this subject but at this point I really do think that a lot of it is technological limitations.I kind of agree with Aprone's opinion on making a new braille modern language but perhaps it should be still be based in current braille. For example, if it was more spaced out, this might reduce costs substantially. Also, perhaps if instead of being represented in pins, it's represented in elevation of a membrane substance. This would be also cheaper than producing braille dots and could still be recognized if spacing was sufficient. However, both solutions would require all braille to be replaced in the process.I think that TTS might be a better means actually than braille in man
 y situations, such as signs; Braille signs are expensive to replace. I like the idea of having the name of the bookmark being read when you pass near it. The names aren't saved yet by the way, but I should have that done by next release which will be in July.Also, I'll have to look into the problems with the tutorial. They need to be completely redone due to the upgrades.Regarding stats; I will have to build a tutorial for those then. I might add a 'shift-character" function that if you're pressing shift will read off what that stat does.The crash was due to iirc something that was referenced when it shouldn't be. Red's color is actually FF 00 00 so having it say FF first is accurate.

Well for me June is pretty chill. I haven't been playing alter much, though I did some puzzlewood and all of the event quests. Dark, Archais was tuff for me. Not a lot of areas with good xp when you hit levels 27 to 29. Me? I hit level 37 and I'm happy. When I started playing swamp, zombies didn't respawn on missions, so I can do a 200 crates with 180 DB's at 60 with an M79 and an AK47, but now it's pure hell. Still playing DnD, it's always fun. Right now I am  A lawful good Paladin, I am going to change my alignment too chaotic neutral I think. Good doesn't suit me. We have 2 players, both girls, both archers, ur, Rangers, and both total crap at hitting monsters, they hit us in stead. No joke. They've hit 1 or 2 monsters  The entire session. @aprone, not a bad idea. Make a design specification that doesn't complicate things, makes machines easy to produce, and more importantly, cheep.I am of course being sarcastic. Hello you guys it's me again.  I will answer your questions as best as I can.  First, somebody was asking if they use moo .  The answer is, yes, they do basically how it works is the main client, is the client that you and I interact on then the work on the database is pretty much where the admin's hangout, code, and other various things 2 .  They are extremely shortstaffed, especially for admins.   So basically it is not surprising to me that they are only releasing .  Maybe, once a month or year 3 .  Yes, the radio show.  I have not really lookt at  this much, seeing as I basically gave up on rs after my moderate position was removed .  Hope that answers some of your questions

Mechanically braille is pretty hard to produce because of the 3 (or 4) rows of dots in each column.  You can cram machinery above and below to handle the top and bottom dots, but reaching the 1 (or 2) inner dots becomes a mess.I remember a few times just asking, can we just invent a new braille-like language that is designed to be easier for machines to display it?  The few people I floated that idea past all said no.  LOL!

Help getting the japanese text games working in win 10.

So, I've got everything working now, except a few things. Got app locale working and everything, the problem I'm having is this. NVDA refuses to pass the enter key through to the game, I remember this being an issue, but not sure how to fix. Also running tyler's patch just crashes the game. How can I actually play these games now?

After doing some research I also came to the conclusion that the default Windows Anti virus is sufficient.  I am also tech savvy and don't worry about getting viruses from stupid things like clicking adds.  However, since this topic seems to be a bit troublesome for some folks I took the liberty of continuing my research to find a decent anti-virus for folks that don't want to settle for Windows Defender.  A found a really helpful post on reddit which I will paste below, just note that the post had nothing to do with accessibility, it merely discusses a list of decent anti-virus options.  Anyone reading this can check out the below options for themselves.Best AV-http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/3e16h7/what_is_the_best_antivirus_to_go_on_a_new_computer/ctamthwI work in a shop that cleans hundreds of computers a week and I see and have to deal with a lot of anti viruses.  ar AVs.McAfee - Literally a virus. This is the most pre-installed anti virus software out there. Common problems with this AV include the inability to access the internet through browsers, decreases in performance, especially browser performance if the McAfee extension is installed, and Operating System file corruption.Norton - An AV good at detecting viruses with everything going against it. Norton is pretty good at scanning and removing viruses. The pros stop there. When norton expires, it deactivates it's real time web protection which also stops your internet from working. I have seen it use more than 50% of system resources when scanning and can idle at 10%. The uninstaller rarely works on systems that have had norton on them for a while. Comes with a lot of its own adware like useless password managers and backup software. The backup software will often back up your computer to itself filling your HDD.AVG - not very good at protecting you from viruses. H
 uge startup impact. Uses a fair amount of system resources. Often requires removal tool to get rid of it. Corrupts system files often. Never wants to update itself.Avast - Has a good basic virus scanner. For some reason, more blue screen issues are caused by avast than any other anti virus. If you're having BSOD issues or issues with drivers or programs that are unexplained, it's usually avast.Hitman Pro - This AV (scan and remove only) has an insane detection and removal record. If no other anti virus can fix your computer, and you really don't want to reformat, Hitman Pro is the scanner to go with.Malware Bytes - Very good at finding and removing browser malware and less serious malware and infections. Very good at cleaning out infections like Search Protect and Trovi. Not the best at getting rid of more serious infections. Warning, this will usually delete all of your internet cookies. Trend Micro - Causes weird issues with program installs 
 and drivers. Real time protection can disable internet access if it screws up. If this av is causing problems it usually has to be removed with a removal tool. Not the best detection rates.Kaspersky - Updates take forever. Huge startup impact. Very good detection with virus scanner. Pretty heavyweight and uses a lot of system resources. Worst password protector/manager ever created bundled with basic software.Webroot - Extremely lightweight with very good detection. Uses at most 3% of your computer's resources. Probably the only AV that doesn't seem to cause OS or internet issues. Does not pop up asking you to buy things, doesnt come with any stupid addons. Probably my favorite AV for people who want a third party AV. Good for gamers and power users.Windows Defender - All you really need. Since hitting "Yes" to install ShopFromHome and Search Protect on that youtube download installer will bypass any anti virus, there's really no reason to 
 spend money on a third party antivirus if you're smart enough to not click on these things in the first place.Avira - Fairly light weight AV. Probably the best free AV out there if you don't mind xing out of the add every day. I usually install this on family computers if they're prone to getting infections.I've had a pretty good experience with NOD32. I used it for 3 years, and installed it for a few friends when they were having virus troubles. As far as I know it cleaned up pretty well, didn't impact performance very much and felt light weight (I didn't check exact values and I have pretty good specs so I can't be sure). It definitely didn't have the same sluggish feel as McAfee and Norton

I don't think the voices are backwords compatible. What I did was keep the 1.3 addon around, and disable it with nvda so that one addon can be running at a time. Unlike blind extra, the 2.2 addon is no parlor trick, it is, true to its word, a modified version of the tiflotechnia driver that has the 2.2 dll's. That's probably also why only one can be running at a time. All the 2.2 voices are available on the site. Unfortunately the only compact bundle they have is all languages, and I'm half tempted to, if I can, download that, and then strip out all the voices of the languages that i don't need. As for the Siri voices I highly doubt the 1.3 ones will work in 2.2. So the 2.2 ones will have to be ripped out of either ios or the mac.

I have just discovered something that's really, really annoyingwhen items or abilities unlock at the end of the level, they spawn as items on the ground, urgo you gotta go pick them upyes there's a sound to let you know when that happens, but it's very fast and doesn't really give you the exact location, just relative to youI found this out the fun way after rerunning level 4

Agreed, although I did talk negatively about it's price, I did buy a Trekker Breeze Plus and can say that the only time I ever had a problem with it was when I first got it and took it on a walk I already knew and didn't need a GPS for. On the way home it thought I was turned around and going back to the far end of my trip and kept telling me to turn around because I was off course. I eventually turned it off and finished walking home without it.I don't know what caused the problem and just chalk it up to lack of experience with it, because the problem was never repeated.Your location may have a lot to do with it's performance, I live in the United States and even before I lost my vision I noticed that maps in GPS systems, for most of the rest of the world were sorely lacking in detail.

And while people may still be active on the AHC Kickstarter thread, that's just because it's become the central location for discussing all things AHC-related; it's not like the campaign itself is still active. So if you feel the need to run a crowdfunding campaign, I say go for it. Just be sure you've got a good sense of how much money you need to accomplish your goals, and then shoot high. Even with how much we pulled in for AHC it's amazing how quickly that number starts to shrink once you look at processing fees, the cost of rewards (especially if you have things to ship) and so on.Can't wait to see (or hear, I suppose) where this goes!

Hi guys, since the old domain I was using for map downloads apparently changed ips, i've released the update a little sooner than I would have liked, so you won't have access to the newer first portion of the story, only the stuff you previously had access too in offline. However it does contain a few new things, such as the ability to adjust room and environmental sounds volume in the options menu as requested, and a few bug fixes and changes to the manual piloting. That sounds pretty bad. It mustn't have had a very good map installed for your region. The maps are good for Britain. When I first got it the only street it said street with no name for was a side street with no houses on it. Updating to the latest map fixed that. I've travelled for tens of miles around my area, and even plotted a route from one end of England to the other and the maps were very good. It only says street with no name when I'm on a footpath, alleyway, or streets that have no need of a post code. Having entire intersections unknown sounds like the map was very poor for your region for whatever reason.

Blitab is on the list .I knew that braille displays are outlandishly priced compared to what you get, but I hadn't actually looked up prices on braille books until 5 minutes ago. An astronomy book for 3rd graders is going for $500-1000. Its sequel is on Amazon for over $9000. It... has illustrations? I've read one of these, and it is very well done, and no way in Ursa Minor would I pay quadroople digits for it. Never have I been so glad for the existence of NLS.

Hi,joshknnd1982: Do concordes still fly? They were terminated after the huge crash in Paris, weren't they? But if the type you refer to is still used send us the engine and all the properties required in ctrl+enter options and I don't see any problem why not to implement it. By the way you can test it on your own. Just look into Aircrafts folder in Eurofly how it's structured. The engines in .wav format and the .air files with properties. So if you make your own you can copy it there testing it yourself.Tapin

I have been saing for a while Quentin c or rs games should put out a scrabble/words with friends game for the longest, hopefully one or the other should do so. and it is crazy that rs has the same games as Quentin. there are a lot of pick up and go type games floating around out there that rs can develop, instead of making slightly different versions of the games we already have access to.

Well that's true nocturnus, I do find desktop keyboards rather  comforting just in general for the sound of the keys and so on, even though my typing speed is  the same with both. For me, I'll always need both, since a laptop screen just isn't physically large enough for me to do things like watch dvds  on or play graphical games, so I'll always need some sort of large screen. while theoretically I suppose I could get a laptop, or even a tablet and plug it into something larger this just feels wrong for me, especially since I actually like owning dvds, besides it's great watching dvds on a comuter since I can control everything from vlc media player and also check things like  action sequences in a script if I need to. so, I think I'll probably always have both, a laptop for random tavelling, and a desktop for sitting in my room and acting as a home cinimar come media center, then of course I have my Iphone as a 
 basic hand held games playing  and navigation device,  oh the wonderful world of gadgets! .

Titan of cards clearly wins, while I think his odds are rather worse over all, he does have the power of paper cuts as a last resort where as the four sided   die has only soft plastic corners and the six sided one will do no good at all. so, when they get tired of the statistics and resort to violence, Cards guy definitely  wins .

Well it would've been nice if he pdated the games to work with Sapi, then again since all accept for starfight have good sapi versions elsewhere, maybe he saw the eloquence as a selling point even though most people who run sapi habitually probably have a  semi decent voice for it, and these days even the windows default voices are not too bad (a long time Since the horrors of Microsoft sam). either way unless Robert bets will update these somehow probably they'll just remain a curiosity, though I'll add links to the demos from the archive and a note about the games' current status and run problems next week when I'm back at my desktop and can do some more work on the db.
