Remember the fact that MERS and Sars actually infected a really tiny number of people compared to covid-19. They were nowhere near as infectious. The number infected is in the low thousands.

For those wondering if this is dead: it's not.  As of now it's the world's lamest media player.  Once this is further along there'll be a dedicated thread for it.  No promises as to when that'll be, but the first hard cliff is getting multi-format support and the custom protocol stuff working--to have things like HTTP or microphone streaming or who knows what else on the table, there's rather a lot that goes in now.I have a code line counter: getting this far is 700 lines of my own code, excluding blanks and comments.  Does wav at the moment, but pluggable backends exist so that it can be extended with any other format (perhaps proprietary ones even).  Ogg, Mp3, and Flac are queued but not the immediate priority--let's prove the HRTF first.

Hi guysI have been thinking where to post this, and because it strongly relates to games, I decided for the General game discussion. Feel free to move it, if it's at wrong place.Just Recently, few simple CSR plugins found a way to my hands, so I finally had an opportunity to study, how the plugin system of this great screenreader for Android works. It was a really interesting experience and after few hours of analyzing, decompiling, writing and trying, I have successfully developed my own CSR plugins.Yeah, not just one, but two, thanks to which I can now officially announce, that Commentary screenreader is the first Android screenreader, which from now on supports vertical navigation!What is vertical navigation and why is it important?So, that's nice, but what is this vertical navigation stuff? i will try to explain it on a simple example.Imagine your Android home screen, in Windows known as desktop. Imagine this home screen full of icons to various important apps.Icons on home screens are normally placed in a grid, let's say 6 x 6. And imagine you're on the icon in first row and first column i.e. in top left corner of the screen.If you want to move one icon to the right, you need to swipe right one time. That's quite simple and intuitive, isn't it?If there was an icon to the left, you'd need one swipe to the left to move on it, that's also quite obvious.But what if you want to move one icon down? I would intuitively think of one swipe down, like you press down arrow on your computer.But for some reason, there isn't any screenreader for Android, which could do this. really None of them can move straight down, instead you need to make 6 swipes to the right in this case to get there.If you want to move two icons down, instead of two swipes, as would be the case for right or left direction, you need to swipe tvelve times to get there.three icons down - eighteen swipes to the right.And if you want to make it to the bottom of the column, what is 5 icons down, instead of simple 5 swipes, you need to do 30 swipes to the right to get there.Yeah, in this case, you could take a shortcut by using the left direction instead, what would lead through top of the screen to the bottom, through docker and the last row of icons, but that won't work either in larger grids, if you were somewhere in middle, or even on home screen, if your screenreader after crossing top of the screen moves you to previous home screen instead of current's bottom.This problem can be partially solved using the explore by touch functionality by moving your finger on the screen. But this solution has three major problems:* Individual squares get very small in larger grids, and are easy to miss.* Exploring itself is quite troublesome, especially if you want to make a more complex image about the grid. After some time you lose exact perpendicular directions, so the navigation becomes inaccurate.* If the exploring takes longer time, fingers start hurting very quickly, so the exploration becomes very exhaustive and painful.Especially in games, these problems are very significant. Board games such as chess, checkers, minesweeper, battleship are all based on grids of tiles, which are quite large (a medium board of minesweeper has size about 16 x 16 tiles).One chess match can last for three hours against human, half the time against computer. Good luck with that, when I lastly played chess on my phone, I felt like my fingers are going to fall of before I get to the middle game.Interesting is, that we have quite lot of games of this kind for Android, many of them in a very good quality, but sadly I had to state all of them unplayable, as these problems were simply too big.But now, thanks to CSR's scriptability and two simple plugins, this is finally going to change. They are CSR plugins, you can install them by opening them in your favourite files browser, the extension should be recognized automatically and Commentary should ask you to install them.Next you simply need to assign both plugins to gestures, what is the most efficient way to use them. I recommend swipe up and swipe down, as they are probably the most intuitive choices and their default functions are infact useless (at least in my opinion).Sadly this also means, that only users with paid licences will be able to get the most out of this plugins. Though I can greatly recommend purchasing the licence, if you didn't so yet, the price is very small and benefits really impressive.A sidenote, my vertical navigation doesn't work in web yet. It doesn't really matter if you use one gestures theme, but if you have a specialone for your browser like me, with up and down swipes assigned to headings movement, or some other useful stuff, you can keep

Covid-19 is different from the flue in many ways, for one, humanity hasn't encountered coronaviruses before, so we have very little in the way of residual imunity.  Second, even after that, covid-19 has an average mortality rate between 2 and 3%. Sit and think about for  a minute. The CDC is projecting that  almost everyone will be infected by the coronavirus. Do you realize how bad that death tole could be? In the US that would be more than 7 million deaths. Contrast that with the flue, which only has a mortality rate les than 0.1%, and for which the population has a residual level of imunity.263, what would you have  us do about the virus then? The government isn't responsible for indviduals commiting acts of violence. Nor should they use the lockdowns as justifications for their actions. The people who do such things likely  had  previously done such things before, or had a genetic  disposition to crime or violence. The fact of the matter is, the measures being put into place now are really conservative compared to what has to be done.  Not doing anything, regardless of what the justifications might be, as the UK has done up to recently will result in a situation worse than Italy, where they had government run healthcare. In the US, we don't have that, so  the outcome will be much more worse.

I'm just going to use struct SDL_Color {r, g, b, a}. I didn't necessarily want to have to use that and have to unpack the components every time, but its way more clear, compatible with many more systems, and easier to manipulate the individual elements.neat trick though to get each component. I'll keep that in my back pocket.

Yep, stuff happens on stw, Either you get killed extremely fast by animals, or you don't play for a while and, adleast if you are not payed, get your account deleted, or even what once happened to me geting killed by the admin while you are *offline*. I am leaving stw allone for now, not only cause i was dumm and jumped from the tree and broken my leg, but also due to the things mentioned above. Regarding the speed hack protection, that is truely a hell. You don't want to know how many times i got kicked when using lte (mobile data), which i had to do in my holidays. The speed hack protection mostly just assumes "o no lag, that must be a speedhack!"

He's the guy who's always talking about how great Amazon is doing at places like NFB, ACB, etc. Why isn't this philosophy reflected across the entire company? They'd rather scream and howl all day about guide dogs rather than fix far more important issues in the world. Well, I think in new zealand we are trying to stay ahead of the virus.Europe and the us have a lot of catching up to do and so does australia.No travel for me and well a few more have to stay home.For me being a contract beta tester, 99.9% of my work is done online or at home.True there are times I have to take a taxi to work but I hate doing so and only do it because pay is worth it.Right now I can go to a cafe or other eatery, but that could mean I couldn't do that.Mind you as far as locking down goes, it would probably be a good thing if that actually happened.I have way to many destractions in my life.I have a list of tasks longer than the transcyberian.They include, finnishing a really boring flight sim pack.Learning a new smart tv and an old iphone I got for cheap.Getting my podcast back underway.Catching up with some shows.Reading several technical, audio and text ebooks.And if I finnish all that, there is undead assault to play, getting back into swamp, and listening to some other audio dramas.If I finnish that, I have a few adult online novels I need to get through.And if thats all said and done, I can continue to test and eventually build a linux vm.And if by some miracle I will be finnished with that,I also have zoom, unigram and discord to learn.And well if by then I am done and its not done yet then I'll be bored.However I think we would need 10 years of isolation before I am even half way through my long life tasks.And even if I get that done there is always my piano which I havn't played in 10 years.

I start getting pissed when it takes them forever to fix it, especially for paid services. This explains why TalkBack never appeared in Accessibility settings. It also explains why I had no text-to-speech engines installed until I installed eSpeak using ADB. What now? Why did the Google apps fail to install?Is it not possible to update the system over the air? I can't find any way to check for system updates. If I have to manually flash each new image and get help with TalkBack, this is going to get old really fast. I can't believe how ridiculous this whole process was. I'd hate to constantly ask someone to enable ADB and USB debugging. Why is this a never-ending series of problems?

Hmmm I'd actually like to use keybase, but the windows client is just weirdly designed.Its sort of accessible but nothing is labeled as such and well if I could get a good keybase client which is not the official keybase client then I'd use it in windows.I know those on mac etc have little trouble.

Swamp: You have to pay money for that which I'm able to do, but my girlfriend and the other friends I game with either can't get Swamp do to not having a card, having a card but not being able to afford the game, or don't have interest in playing that game. Thus, Swamp is not an option.MUDs: I don't really like MUDs all that much. I have no desire to type in commands to do things; I'd much rather move around the map and do things in realtime like Swamp, and like I said Swamp's not an option.all other online games written in BGT: Yeah, like what? Crazy Party is the only one to my knowledge, and it's not really something you can play all the time because there isn't practically unlimmited things to do in that game.My point still stands. With Undead Assault following very close behind, STW in my opinion is pretty much the best online game we've got, besides all the glitches that need to be fixed. I definitely won't spend anymore money on the game until his game is fixed up, but I'm not going to play anything else until something truly comes up and blows STW strait out of the ballpark.

Its not just about picking the right sound at times, i mean, that is part of it, yes, however sometimes the best sound is made by combining more than one sound. Sounds can be copyrighted, yes, but it is not the same copyright music and other stuff has.Example: You record a sound. I take the sound, edit it, or make a new sound using your sound you recorded, that sound is now mine. Anyway, hope this helps.

Once you click it, whenever you buy something from iTunes with description, guess what you have? And guess what you didn't have to do? That's correct. You did not have to disable Voiceover to enable it

I have that extension; the issue with that is that I can't get my web browser to output through my mixer, so I would have to read out the messages my speech says anyway which would be kind of counterproductive. I'm saying don't pay for a book.The people who write free books on the internet for this stuff are equally qualified to the people who write non-free books not on the internet for this stuff, except that the latter bothered to try to get a publisher interested in selling it and the former did it as a labor of love with only the hope that someone might find it useful as payment. Also a lot of universities put up free textbooks for this stuff too.I would point you at specific things but I did this 10 years ago and frankly this thread is managing to make me feel old.

See, I don't mind. Reason why I typically invest in books or courses is because of the logic of "They know how to teach this in the most succinct manner." Obviously, not true, but hey. At least they have some sort of a plan where as I may end up floating place to place looking for answers and or tutorials about a concept that I felt I still didn't understand after reading my current resource. I have no issue with it, but a part of my brain hates "wasting time" (do note the quotation marks) on research, at least when it comes to trying to find the right resource. @55To start with your last point first: forget about asking questions in college unless it's a good one; the professor will have the answers but almost no one else will give a fuck and is just doing it to get the money out the other side.  Obviously that's not true of MIT or whatever, but bumblefuck community college certainly will be that way.But I think your problem is you're looking at resources for programmer newbies that teach C, not resources that teach C to programmers.  There is a difference.  The former will connect things to the real world at an entirely different level than the latter, since for the former it's also assumed that you couldn't write a tiny board game thing or something at this point.So, some suggestions.  First, a google for "C for Python programmers" turned up this as the third result or so.  Replace Python with java or C# or whatever else and you can probably find tons of resources aimed at people trying to make that jump.If you don't mind learning some Rust, this is their official tutorial for people (since Rust is new enough to have such a thing).  I bring this up because Rust's official tutorial is aimed at people who can already program in non-systems languages and written from the perspective of "This is Rust. Here is what a stack is. Here is why Rust does this this way and an example of why if we didn't you'd crash".  Etc.  The big thing that Rust has that C doesn't is lifetimes, which is a sort of formalism on top of pointers that gets rid of a class of issue in C where you have pointers pointing at invalid memory, and admittedly Rust has a lot more going on than C, but their resources are very good for learning.I would never pay for a learning a programming language resource unless it also comes with some sort of accreditation or there were some other outstanding reason to bother.  There are way too many free things out there, and unlike sighted people the free ones tend to be more accessible anyhow.  If this was I need to learn assembly for weird architecture that only 5 people know, or advanced mega-senior level concurrency algorithms with a discourse of common microprocessor microcode implementations or something with lots of big words that I threw together for this example, okay, maybe. Otherwise...no.

this is starting to remind me a lot of the mainstream game Epic Battle Simulator. In that you basically spawn different types of npcs on the map where ever you want and watch as they go at it. You can even add more as it's going on, change up the map, cause desasters, etc. I've always wanted a game like that, because it just sounds like a good way to waste time, escentially playing the roll of game maker out of the hunger games and letting people kill each other. In Epic Battle Simulator you  had different types of things like zombies, modern soldiers, chickens, really, anything.

I used Absolute Beginner's guide to C, more to get started than anything. The problem I found with the book is that it only mentioned things briefly (only one section was about pointers and with very few examples) and more focused on connecting basics to the real world, which is great but not exactly helpful for when I already have the concept of looping and functions. I also have purchased a course on Udemy (the name escapes me right now though I can provide the link to it here in a bit if you wish) but the instructor has a multitude of issues (extremely slow speech, long awkward pauses while searching for words, reiteration of the same, typically useless, expected result... I could go on). I am not really disappointed with the former seeing as it was called "Absolute Beginner's guide," but the latter makes me rather upset because it was one of the bestseller courses and came from the same group of instructors from who I purchased before and was extremely satisfied with. It was on sale, though, so that's a plus. Only costed $12.99 from it's typical price, $149 or so.My problem with both the book and the course is that there is not enough material given to cement the concepts being taught. I'm not talking about syntax, that comes to me as naturally as breathing, I'm talking more about the reasons behind why things work (pretty much all my troubles on this thread).My school unfortunately does not offer a course in C, only in Java, and I have already went through it. To be honest, based on my experiences, even if my school did offer the course I wouldn't have taken it. By the end of the year in Java we only got to basic file processing. No talking about inheritance, no mention of abstract classes... Supremely disappointing. Oh well. That's the joys of high school.I don't want to pick up reference materials primarily because I don't think they will help me at my current state. What I need is a combination between the two: A demonstration and an explanation of why it works and what goes on behind the scenes. In an ideal world I could also have the ability to ask questions as I think of them, but... well. That wouldn't happen til college when everyone else who takes the class will begin caring about their time.

Read over my posts and please, tell me where I said I was against him not announcing his games in the development phase.@Rory, here's my extension to post 10. Let's say your making a game for the first time. Let's say manamon. Nobody has ever played a game like this before. Keeping it quiet until release is probably the best thing you can do. Now, you're developing Manamon 2. Now, it would be OK to announce its development, because at the time of you developing manamon 2, the game and you as a developer has gathered a followwing of gamers who are familiar with the game and love it. Or, the VG storm way. Stay silent, listen to the feedback people may post and collect the scraps like a bottom feeder. Now, with the info, plus my own personal ideas, I can put it together to create the  best version of Manamon 2. Now, here's a situation where I think pre-release announcements make sense in the audiogame industry.  Let's use A Hero's Call for reference. You don't have much money, however you want to get financial support for your gam. In that sense, you want to hype up your game, trying to get as much support you can possibly get, so that AHC becomes the best game it can possibly be.That's my take.

I'm not, though I'm curious what resource you're using.  If anything this thread is suddenly making me realize that it might be worth me revisiting writing a book on programming.  I've tried a few times before, but it was a long, long time ago before I was anywhere near as experienced as I am now.  But this is making me realize that I can't think of any resources that talk about philosophy, and everything I can think of does arrays before pointers too, which as you're probably discovering is entirely backward from how you actually have to understand it if you want to do anything at all.

This whole thing is so over-hyped that it's getting out of hand. The CDC has shown data that should give us all that we need to know with this. This virus, while dangerous, has only effected or killed a handful of people in comparison with the flu, which has now killed over 200,000 people this season. Why was there no panic about that? Yes, I know that this thing packs a serious punch and can kill people, but the truth is that there are thousands of other things that do more damage than this virus and our way of life has not come to a screeching halt over them. So, there's another virus floating around and it happens to be this thing called the Korona Virus. One thing to remember is that it isn't mortal to all who get it. Primarily, the elderly and those who have compromised immune systems are going to get the worst of it. Even then, there is a 98% cure rate, so there is nothing to be panicked about. There is no need to hold things like toilet paper, cleaning supplies, and other things of that nature. There is no need to have these shut-downs and such. In the end, we all need to remember that, virus or no virus, life goes on  and time stops for nothing. We need to keep living our lives in spite of this thing and apply common sense in terms of staying healthy. I've said it before, and I will say it agin. The real pandemic is not this virus, rather it is the way so many are reacting to it from the top down. Yes, I know that this thing has ben especially deadly in China and other countries. The thing to remember is that China has a population that dwarfs that of the United States and most of that population live pretty close together. Naturally, the virus would spread more quickly in areas like that. We can't start thinking that every country is going to have it as bad when not all living conditions are the same throughout the world. So, again there is absolutely no need for the level of panic this thing has caused.

Your issue is that the formatting ignores leading zero bits because it's for human-friendly output.  You will need to ask it to print fixed width hex.The C++ streams are complicated and massively overdesigned. I always use printf for these cases.  I don't know the specifier offhand, but you want to find the hex-formatted output one, then you want to set the field width to 8 characters, and then it will pad with leading zeros.Alternatively, since I feel like the question you're also trying to ask is how do you get the bytes separated for analysis:int color = 0x12345678;
unsigned char red, green, blue, alpha;

red = color & 0xff00;
green = color & 0x00ff;
blue = color & 0xff00;
alpha = color & 0x00ff;Which works on any architecture irregardless of endianness, and doesn't break at -O3 because you ran afoul of the pointer aliasing rules either.

Unfortunately you cannot at this stage, since you need to have access to the sourcecode to use it. At the moment, it's just a handful of useful functions with the help of some loops and delays to make them.

Long story short, I am trying to save a 32 bit or 4 byte unsigned int. This is being used as hex values for colors that take the following form:0xRRGGBBAAwhere RR is the amount of red from 0 - 255where GG is the amount of green from 0 - 255where BB is the amount of blue from 0 - 255where AA is the alpha or transparency from 0 - 255see my code below.The problem arises when there are leading zeros such as in the colors green (0x00ff00ff) and blue (0x). I know those aren't the precise names, but stay with me. The zeros get truncated off leaving me with 0xff00ff and 0x respectively. these do not draw as colors on the screen as they don't have the required bits. How can I ensure that my values retain all of the bits? I have tried storing them in unsigned int, Uint32, uint32_t, uint_fast32_t, and uint_least32_t. all of these seem to drop the leading zeros even though the constant width values say they should keep all 32 bits. Is this a compiler optimization I can turn off? I should say I intend on using clang for cross platform compatibility. Currently I'm on my Mac in Xcode and I get the same results with g++ in terminal.My example code is not at all representative of what I'm actually doing with the colors. I know I could manipulate the stream with std::showcase, std::internal, and std::set fill('0') to this play the hex correctly, but that is only fixing the display and not solving the underlying issue.Any help would be appreciated.#include
