yeah, this issue, I've been having it since quite a bit of time. I just make sure that i don't have to review my text in the browser's edit-box, also, I can confirm that it happens for Chromion based Microsoft Ege too. Haven't tried the old edge yet. And not only this websight, it happens with google-forms and other edit-boxes, though be it of specific type. My guess is that it happens with multi-line edit-boxes on Chromion based browzers.

Ok so if it indeed is not used, there is in fact potential harm in enabling it. For anyone who didn't notice, the page file is cleared and re-written to each time you boot, so my page file is 1.25 gb, each time I boot up, I use 1.25 gb of  SSD write cycles, probably 20% or 30% more with over provisioning and  ware leveling algorithms

Re: Why do people still use bgt?

@13I'm not saying BGT is more capable than other things, because it most certainly isn't.  For example my point from earlier about there being no good physics or networking options is as true of BGT as anything else.  Look at how many people have reimplemented collision or basic trig in it for example. The point I'm making is that there was a time where you downloaded VB6, opened notepad, and typed.  No distribution problems.  Full 3D audio.  Tons and tons of tutorials.  Think PureBasic without memory management issues, some Python-esk properties, the BGT philosophy of making the world simple and friendly at the cost of power, officially supported and maintained by Microsoft themselves, accessible IDE and GUI stuff, and as fast as you could hope for.  Output was an exe you could pass around to your friends.  It died in part because the world got more complicated than that approach can handle, but until something like 2007 or 2008 VB6 was a big, serious technology that you could easily get jobs in, and it's still around in the corporate world. The old "classic" developers for lack of a better word were developing in that environment.  Basically the closest you could get to perfection, even by what most people want now.  I can do everything but the 3D audio by virtue of being an experienced programmer, and I can apparently do the 3D audio by virtue of being me and being willing to put in absurd amounts of effort.  But back then it just...didn't take anything.  The market forces and everything else were right for people like Microsoft to be primarily targeting the new programmer in order to hook people on computers instead of primarily targeting the internet consumer and Netflix, or something.  It's hard to put into words.  I was there for the end of it only, but enough to get the vibe before the vibe was lost, and I know older people who remember it.  We won't get it back.I'm not saying money wasn't important--it is, even to me.  I'd guess probably 70% money and 30% the tools suck by what the older devs were used to from the early 2000s.  But I wouldn't discount it.  You can't ever beat having multi-billion dollar corporations investing huge amounts of money in things, and with VB6 things was sighted BGT.

I had a domain with them, and I'd like to tell you this. Their free domain isn't great, their website is shitty, it is not blind friendly. You will have to struggle a lot to get a domain. Also, sometimes the free domain registration doesn't work at all. You know what? I tried to register a free domain about two weeks ago, and I can't get it. And I contacted their support, and the response I got from them was, They have detected spam from my IP, and they have prevented me from getting a free domain. SO, my last word for it, don't try this website. If you can find an alternative, I'd suggest go for it.

Re: Why do people still use bgt?

Many of the previous generation of developers, those with more practical experience such as GMA Games, Blastbay, Draconus ETC, have realized that the audio games scene as it stands is not financially viable for living off of, or have simply outgrown gaming for the most part and have moved on to other things.Allot of these guys also had programming day jobs, or at least backgrounds in computer science. The majority of the current game developers in this generation are not skilled coders.  Rather than getting into game coding after the fact, allot of them start coding specifically because they want to make games like the ones they enjoy playing. Most of them have an intense need to prove them selves and give back to the community, and are often impatient because of this.  Having had no prier experience with working on a big, long term project, and largely still not adults, they have a really hard time swallowing the fact that games should take months or years, not weeks.BGT promises fast results for people without allot of experience, and as has been shown, it can be used to make some pretty amazing things when the right people use it for the right kinds of games, plus it can be a stepping stone for getting young adults interested in learning more complex languages or going into more professional programming. However when used as a shortcut for skill, it often results in a sub par product, and since those using it don't have the knowledge to understand how BGT limits them yet anyway, they tend to rebelle against what they see as overly critical adults trying to crush their creative spirit and just double down when told they are hurting them selves in the end by using it.This wouldn't be as much of a problem if the community wasn't so small and every game we got didn't mean something, but at this point the best thing to do would probably just be to tolerate it and try to help where possible.  It's starting to swing that way more lately, which is good, but we still have allot of  rivalry, dick measuring, and code steeling to deal with among the less mature new coders, and our solution so far has been to insult the hell out of them until they leave. That's something I've been guilty of my self, but at this point, they are our future weather we like it or not, and I think we need to be a bit more welcoming because mainstream and even indi accessible gaming is still moving quite slowly. All of the reasons listed above, from ease of use to visual learning are also important points, but I think this is the underlying bigger issue personally.

Re: Why do people still use bgt?

@7One thing that people forget about the GMA games generation of developers is that they had Visual basic in an era where programming was actually very accessible.  CLI was still in vogue and you didn't fight IDEs all the time.  Indeed, there were Jaws scripts for pre-VS 2008 for making forms that didn't have overlapping controls.  As far as I can tell it's not actually nostalgia, it was actually that programming used to be more accessible from a completely literal does-the-screen-reader-work perspective.  When I got my start in the mid 2000s, 75% or more of the tools I tried were accessible to some extent.  It might take using the Jaws cursor, but chances were insert-IDE-here would work, and that was in my newbie screen reader learning period.  It was before we lost accessible by default.  Eclipse kind of hung on and is still around, and now we have VSCode, but after 2010 or so at the latest, there was a very long period of basically no accessible tooling, and the thing about tooling is that the tooling encodes a bunch of knowledge in it (where does the compiler live, how does the debugger work, etc).Linux was never a problem, but then audiogames aren't ever really for Linux, and windows dev is much more of a headache than it was once upon a time if you're sighted, let alone if you're blind. But that's not even the biggest thing.  The biggest thing was DirectSound combined with VB6.  DirectSound also never got a replacement.  And this kind of sounds like I'm making a "yay! Synthizer!" point or something, but that's not it.  If you put Visual Basic 6 and DirectSound together, you had the sighted equivalent of BGT.  You didn't have to hunt, the manuals and learning resources were all there, indeed one of the reasons that certain parts of Windows suck at threads is supposedly that MS thought threading would be too complicated for VB6 people so they put a bunch of implicit stuff into Windows that they had to go back on later.  The world was just dropping opportunity after opportunity to learn it at you.  Almost everyone who had an even halfway decent sound card was Creative so the world also made all the audio stuff that people dream about trivial, you had to go out of your way not to have HRTF and amazing reverb, it was there and it was on minus something like 20 extra lines of code to configure it in C++, probably less in VB.Plus DirectSound and all the related tooling were still in the era when you coded for them.  Modern replacements to all of that, even the Microsoft ones that aren't full-featured engines, they start at "And now load the asset manager workbench and open the asset management options dialog. From here, follow these 5 steps and set these 3 options, and then you go over to this stub file and" and half the steps of that will be accessible.  If you're lucky, but you usually aren't, and because you're blind if you are it's literally slower than just typing a line of code, or editing a text file and reloading the entire app.Money is certainly a big part of it. But consider what it was probably like for i.e. David Greenwood, the author of Shades of Doom.  Wake up one day and Microsoft has announced that sorry, we're killing 95% of the audio quality of DirectX even for already-compiled apps.  Nothing to be done.  Wake up another day a year or two later and sorry no more VB6, you already couldn't use it because we don't update the bindings and things anymore, but haha now we're not distributing it with Windows (SOD is VB6 as far as I know, if it's not the point stands).  I'd have left too.  Being told that 1, you have to start over from scratch and 2, no matter what there is nothing, nothing you can do to equal the quality of XP...demoralizing isn't strong enough.  I was a new programmer just getting started for that particular apocalypse and it was demoralizing, I can't imagine having had 5-10 years of work rendered worthless.@10There's nothing actually good anywhere, as someone who has tried for a long time.  The RPG maker people have a pretty obvious migration path out: you go Unity for example, but there are lots and lots of things where you say "Maybe I'm outgrowing this. Let's learn something real" and the world just deluges you with opportunities to do that.  Maybe Lucia is amazing, I haven't evaluated it.  But from the sounds of it it's still quite immature.  To be clear I'm glad it exists, I've just not heard anything about that being viable yet, and the license precludes commercialization or even being closed source at all because of how the LGPL interacts with Python.Sable is proud of the fact that it doesn't allow coding.  Sable took 3 years.  Go over to New Releases and read the thread.  Sable doesn't let you build anything but fantasy RPGs and every time I look someone asks "is this customizable" and gets told no.  We're going to get a bunch of games with the exact same classes and the exact same combat mechanics and etc. and it's not going to

Re: Crazy party sound sourcing

I only have a couple things to say.  As far as I'm concerned the project is over.  Sorry to the people that paid for sounds but to be fare, you should have gotten Pragma's blessing before that, which is exactly why I held off my self.  At least you can use all those cool sounds for something else if you want!I'm proud of everyone that tried to step up though.  And I hope that in the future we might have the chance to help out for real.1. Jade can't be blamed for the mistakes of the past.  He wasn't the one who let games with pirated sounds slide, and he can't be expected to recognize all of the stolen sounds by ear or have played every game in the database either.  Even if you disagree with the need for doing this, you can't forget that it wasn't just him that decided, it was the whole mod team, so blame them all equally.2.  Pragma has multiple communities to think about, not just this one, and while we may be a large portion of the players, it's only a subsection of us that even felt this was necessary.  Even if he had agreed to doing a separate soundpack and having us do most of the work, the already almost insurmountable task of finding, editing, and retranslating all of those sounds would have been made doubly as hard by the requirement for them to sync up with the existing soundpack in time and volume.  Chances were already high that this project wouldn't be scene to it's conclusion anyway.3.  Reporting CP to Nintendo (a famously petty company when it comes to copyright) just to prove a point is a fucked up thing to do to someone else's work and all the players who enjoy it, especially considering that person isn't making any money off of that work.  Seems like a good way to shoot your own community in the back while sacrificing a valuable part of it, for a reason that, a month down the line will probably ring pretty hollow in the justification department.

Re: Why do people still use bgt?

@10, my problem with that point of view is that BGT limits you to an extreme. I've always felt that getting started programming with BGT is just a terrible idea because it doesn't teach you the necessary skills to actually develop anything in anything but itself, hence the "vendor lock-in" situation -- BGT provides everything you could ever need and so there's no incentive to go digging around for what you need, and when there is that incentive you have no idea how, or refuse to learn how. This is, of course, despite the fact that, if I'm not mistaken, most education systems do teach you how to research things.

Re: Crazy party sound sourcing

Thumbs up from me defender. However, to Zarvox, I believe that money isn't entirely wasted. You never  know when the library you bought might be useful in your future project. To be fair though he didn't complain about that in the firstplace. We are indeed a smaller section of the Crazy party's playerbase. Crazy party has existed for 37 betas before it was translated to English, which is about 2 years. Before that, people in French have enjoyed the game and gave feedback about it. Now that it is in English, even more translations were made. Arabic, Romanian, Spanish, Portuguese, all of these are important communities with probably their own local forums, so the loss if CP was removed from here would be very minimal in my opinion. I can't be disappointed at Pragma either. Why would I say goodbye to a bunch of contributors to satisfy one forum, when these contributors probably helped the game even before it was on that forum. It just seems disrespectful. Better to be told no right at the start than later on. Imagine if you have worked on the project, it was accepted and your sounds were a part of the game. However, after 4 months, you are told sorry, but the majority of our players don't really like the theme of your sounds. It would feel bad, the same way it would feel bad to people who have contributed sounds for probably 2 or more years. Just to be 100 percent clear, I'm not only blaming Jayde for this, it just so happens that Jayde is the only member of the staff actively discussing this with us, so naturally he is getting more blame than anyone else, in addition to the fact he was the one who started pushing for the stricter enforcement of the rule, so people don't have anyone else to blame.

Re: Why do people still use bgt?

The Indie scene is generally populated by people who got their start wanting to make games, so I think there's some truth to that kind of organic community development. BGT is a good resource in the same sense that RPG Maker, Game Maker, or RenPy are good resources, and people have plenty of sighted tutorials, guides, and examples to migrate over to a programming language for similar results in a kind of developmental ecosystem. But those same resources weren't previously available from an audiogame perspective, how people migrate from a defined engine to general language usually depends on how easy, or easily understood, it is to get similar results towards an intended goal from one to the other. Alot of my time spent here has been to make myself available as a resource to answer any questions and provide easy to use examples for programming, from a strategic investment perspective how probable a persons given goal is doesn't matter so long as their engaged in learning, since that experience can be applied towards future projects. That experience can then be leveraged towards others who are interested in learning/migrating, and the effect snowballs. Its one of the reasons I find discouraging others or encouraging them to quit to be counter productive, the given goal isn't the only payoff in the long term. There's still a lot of areas that need inprovement in available tools and resources, but there's been some good progress in building migration pathways, and more selection with engines like Sable or Libre.

Re: Aurora 4X, Back to More Accessible Stars

Darren,I can talk in general terms about ship design, colonization, and the like, but this is an area where the resources we've already recommended have a lot of info.To begin with, you need a survey ship of some kind. This is usually a fairly simple ship, just a few engines, a couple survey sensors, and some fuel. The most confusing part is probably the design of the engine, but you need to do that from the "Create project," screen before you can design any ship that you expect to move. I've already mentioned how you design engines, sensors, and weapon systems in earlier messages, but it's basically just picking elements from several lists, and then researching or instantly giving yourself the technology.Another thought I had, would it be easier if you maybe started a new game and told the  machine to design your first ships for you? That might let you explore the rest of the UI with ships which will generally work, though you lose out on the mechanical experience of designing things from scratch. The basic flow for the ship design window is this.1. Hit the "New class," button.2. Hit "rename class," if you don't like the default name the game gave for the class.3. Move to the component tree view and look around, find engines, and expand the category to find the engine you've already designed.4. Route your mouse to the engine you designed and double click. This is a bit tricky with your resolution, but should work if you use the mod.5. Go to the ship design display, which will show you the ship is now able to move faster than 1 KM/S. 6. Repeat for survey sensors or other components you want to add.7. Close the window.8. Retool a shipyard (on the shipyard tab) for the design, which is again just a matter of selecting a yard with the proper tonnage and type, selecting "Retool," from the list, and pressing the "Set activity," button. This same process, with variations, is followed for all ships you want to design, or for bases, fighter craft, etc.

#18 is right, but I have one point to make. RAID is not a backup! Many people think RAID, since it has multiple drives, means everything's all wonderful and backed up and safe. Nothing could be further from the truth! True, the data is more reliably stored in case of failure of a drive or something. But if a nasty virus comes along and overwrites the RAID, or someone steals it, or your house burns down, it doesn't matter if you have 50,000,000,000 drives in that RAID array, your data's still just as gone.

Re: how far have we really taken these rules on the forum!

I'm posting this in both topics to further Jayde's point. I know I had a conflicted view on this before, but I think I understand things a bit more clearly now. Do you guys remember This topic about a game I made using the Sonus GDE? If you've got the time, go through all the sounds and listen to them. Each and every sound in that game is created by me. For the robot speaking, I wrote the text in Balabolka using Robosoft 2 and saved it as an ogg file, so technically I did create those sounds myself. My point behind this is that you really don't need to use the sounds that everyone else is using to make a good game. The fact that you don't have sound effects created in a studio and can't afford to obtain them legally should not affect your ability to make a good game. Crazy Party has no excuses, especially considering how the community was ready to pitch in and help make the game more legal. In fact, it seems as if only a loud-mouthed 10% of the current player base would actually stop playing the game if the sounds were changed. If I'm being honest with you, those people wouldn't be worth it, given how they're probably the same people who rage quit in the middle of a game just because they're not getting their way or because you're trying to talk to them, or they join other peoples games just to troll. Digressing, there was no reason why the sounds could not have been replaced. Quite honestly, I'm disappointed. I'm disappointed that Pragma seemed to not care about the fact that this game could be banned from AGNet, and I'm especially disappointed that he said no even after people spent money to try to bring this project to life. At the end of the day, it's his game and he has full control over whatever he decides to do. Even so, I'm disappointed in him.

Re: Why do people still use bgt?

I don't think the lack of reference is the problem.  The reference for BGT is kind of neutral as far as I'm concerned, and the few times I looked at it I would even go so far as to say it's a little underdocumented.  The problem with other things is that they're actually bigger, not that they're documented worse.  Mind you there's lots of examples of documented terribly in programming.  But I can point at lots of well-documented things for games and otherwise pretty easily.  But in the wider programming universe:1. You have to be able and willing to use Google.2. You have to know your screen reader well.Which are both solvable to some extent by just saying "use this and this and this" because whatever it is has good documentation, and putting together a tutorial that shows how to combine the libraries.  IMO the issue isn't finding the information, it's not knowing what information you need to find.  I'll assume that anyone who wants to program knows their screen reader well, but maybe I'm wrong and being in the old CHM format with the treeview is that big of a deal.

Re: How to change the page file on windows 10?

at post 12. My intention is not to educate you, rather to point out that I was in agreement with most of what you have said. I also have not implied that windows does not use it. I've stated that it is clearly not needed above 8 gigs with SSD, because, the chances of a app calling that huge chunk of memory requiring windows to over provision memory is few and far between, unles it is a desire by the end user to have such a app. 7 z comes too mind. but then that user would already know that he or she should leave page file alone. While i'm happily prepared to learn something new every day. you seem very sted fast in your inability to learn. that is non of my concern. My concern was with post 1 who very spisiffically asked. what would happen if he placed his page file on a external. very bad idea that. I then expanded as to when you can actually disable the file because in all my years of experience. i've never, ever, ever seen windows complain of running out of memory. when more then 8 gigs is used. Notice, that i've never mentioned anything below that. that is because, we are then heading in to the exact territory you described. that  is 100% correct. The other fact I stated was that SSD is required before you can even think of deactivating the use of that file. I am not placing your statements of leaving the file alone in doubt. I am only answering a question by some one who is curious as to what would happen, when they take certain actions with that file. The reason I responded to you in the way I had was because the internet has alot of folks like you that says. don't do something. but never really expands as to why. I on the other hand. would do the exact same thing but would freely explain as to why this is. Remember not every one realizes the complex reasons behind why windows does what it does. You do know this. I know some of it. but not all. Remember I also stated that my experience comes from practical experience. maybe your experiences are way different. in your lign of work or interactions, it may be important  to follow the routes that you do. In short. this is what makes the internet such a lovely place. because, I am allowed to  differ from opinion. for me having it turned off. with a SSD installed with 8 gigs or more ram is good. But for you. and alot of others, it is not. Would I tell most people to do it. no, uff corse not. would I do it on the systems I work on if I new what they'd be used for? o sure thing. because I know what I can and cannot get away with.

Re: Why do people still use bgt?

I've written this in another topic. BGT is still a hit because of all the reasons above, plus the great didactics of the help file. It goes through programming basics such as variables, ifs, loops and classes, then jumps in to practical examples of how to use all of that. Also, the reference is really easy to use, really quick to find the function or class you need and read its parameters, its syntax and a working piece of code.Any new language or package aiming at killing BGT would need a documentation and tutorials at least as efficient.

Re: Why do people still use bgt?

It's because the sighted gaming tutorials are written for the sighted, with graphics first.  You have three paths into game programming:1. Do a sighted gaming tutorial.2. Learn to program and then come to games.3. Grab BGT.Problem with 1 is they go on and on about graphics and stuff, and you don't know that it's still applicable because surely audiogames are different.  If you knew enough about programming to not fall into BGT you wouldn't fall into the trap of thinking like that but you don't so you do.Problem with 2 is there's no motivation.  Normal programming for the sighted, you get results easily.  "Yay my web page is blue".  "Yay it's an animated cat" or whatever.  There's immediate win, even if it's not a game, you can take the web page you wrote to learn _javascript_ and show it to everyone.  But if you're blind things stay theoretical for a very long time.  If you want to do GUI you have to find an accessible thing, if you want to do web sites you can't show it off to anyone.  Most people don't have the temperament to start at something like command line utilities forever, or JSON web services, or learning data structures, and most people can't look at an absurd salary in 5-10 years and let that motivate them either.  You need the candy for lack of a better word.So 3, grab BGT.  BGT says "here, this is how you play a sound".  The gaming tutorial teaches you bad practice.  But you don't know enough to know that yet, and you immediately get a rewarding experience irregardless of the endgame potential.  So you dive into BGT, anything that says anything otherwise is this giant hill because omg Python packaging and all those things that the sighted game tutorials like to try to teach that BGT doesn't even touch on, and because BGT you didn't learn how to Google or find resources on your own either because there are no resources to be found.  So hack hack hack on a project, and then what, throw out all your work?  It's like a black hole.  All the skills and things you need to be able to get out, you didn't learn them, you can't because it's too niche, so you're stuck.  This is one of the primary reasons I used to push so hard against it back in the day, for those who remember that. And then, because audiogames.net is very small and very amateur, BGT being like a black hole sucked everyone in and the things that we needed to be building to have another more fully featured option never got built.  So the last thing keeping people in BGT is, basically that everyone else is.  No good option for audiogame physics in Python for instance, or anything else.  The sighted stuff is too unconstrained.  No good option for networking because the sighted stuff usually comes with a giant, inaccessible engine and can't be separated out.  Etc.  So unless you're skilled enough to invent the stack yourself or someone else has invented the stack for you, leave to what?  And because BGT doesn't have resources to go beyond newbie levels of programming, get the skills to build the stack how?My current mission, which will take a long time, is to finally build the pieces of the stack (starting with Synthizer, in many ways the hardest bit), moving to physics and networking, and then who knows where from there.  To get rid of BGT once and for all, we need that and an equivalent to BGT's tutorial that shows you how to set it all up, maybe a project template or something.

Re: A couple questions about _javascript_ tutorials

I think the freeCodeCamp interactive tutorials teach quite a bit of new syntax. So they're pretty much up to date. Unfortunately, I don't believe FCC teaches you about Asynchronous programming, unpacking syntax, and complete closure coverage. Curried functions are covered, however. I think there are a few other topics not covered, but these are generally considered to be advanced.w3schools is a good resource. Eloquent _javascript_ is also pretty good. Unfortunately, there's no way around occasionally reading a lot of text to better understand a programming concept. The advantage of FCC is that they encourage you to learn a concept and practice by doing, which is something you can do on your own once you get a handle on resources and _javascript_ environments like your browser or Node.

Re: How to change the page file on windows 10?

@11If the pagefile isn't needed, Windows isn't using it whether it's enabled or not. You're getting away with it because at 8 gigs you don't usually run out of memory, not because there is some magical thing about 8 gigs or higher that makes Windows not use it.  If you disagree with this explanation, cite a source.  Maybe there's some Windows-specific corner case or something, perhaps I'll learn a thing, but I doubt it.  The only really good reason for doing this is if you have thrashing and have proven that it's thrashing.I don't have time to make my answers apply to people who will do the opposite of what I say either.  If they're going to do it when we tell them not to, that's not on us, and it's not our job to reverse psychology them into listening.

Hello,So I was playing TOC today and yesterday, having a great time on the battle of Birtain map. Though I admit, once I got 4 cruisers and 2 battleships and starded bombarding the hell out of the coastal cities... well... Things got a bit one sided. But that's besides the point. As far as I can see, using alt y and exploration around the map I have captured all the cities on the map, but don't actually appear to have won the game?Is this a bug in the game or am I missing something. Many thanks!Commander general wannabe dardar

A couple questions about JavaScript tutorials

A couple questions about _javascript_ tutorials

First off, are the ones on free code camp outdated or are they using the current version? If by chance they are, what is another good free place to learn _javascript_ that is easiest to follow. I tend to lose Focus when reading long blocks of text about concepts related to coding, which is why I like free code camp. I’ve checked the sticky topic for resources and have looked at the modern _javascript_ tutorial. I like it, but I can’t seem to pay attention to it. A lot of it is just explaining the language, and my mind just won't focus. One way or another I need to learn _javascript_, but it feels like an up hill Battle at the moment.

I think it's mainly because everything's just right there. I mean all you need isvoid main() {    sound meow;    meow.load("meow.ogg");    meow.play_wait();    exit();}and boom, you got an audio player. Plus you can compile right from the menu bar. I do not still use BGT but I can see one's reason to. Although I think it is time to move on.

Disclaimer. I am not trying to start another argument about bgt. If an argument does start, I will contact an admin and get this topic closed. So, I was looking through the games I have installed on my computer, and I realized that most of them are written in bgt. Now,, I have nothing against bgt, but I think it has ran it's corse. The only way you can obtain bgt is if you know someone who has the installer or if you get it through the blind help website. It is not even on the audio games website or the archive. Also, anyone who writes a game in bgt needs to put a disclaimer in the readme telling someone how to turn off windows defender, or make an exclusion so that windows doesn't delete the game. If you ask me, I think that is a lot of work just to be able to play a game. There are many other programming languages out there to choose from that have more features. And with a mainstream language you are not just limited to the documentation and asking around for help. If you are having a problem you can just use google. The chances are hi that someone else has had the exact same problem as you and can solve it. Like I said at the beginning of this post I am not trying to start an argument. I just want to know why so many people are still using bgt when it is unsupported and there are many other alternatives.

Re: Sable Alpha is here!–free to download for Public alpha testing!

Hi everyone,Sorry if I’ve been a little quiet on here, but have had my little boy staying at mine today and yesterday,  what time I have had free I’ve been trying to get a little bug fixing done. I’ll try and answer the questions which have come in below:@Firence, you can also assign status affects to equipment too, so you could for example add regen to a piece of armour, or add say something to a weapon like say frozen, which encases your target in ice and prevents them moving/taking a turn. Other than that though and levelling that is the only way to give abilities to players.@Threeblindnoises, regarding enemies yes this is correct, the only sounds they have is pain and death. Although when you create an enemy you are also asked to assign it an unarmed sound set too. the unarmed sound set is separate to the enemy sound set and obviously not all your enemies will use this , as they might be equipped with a weapon. But I thought its worth mentioning this for any enemies you might have that do not hold weapons, since you will need to also give these enemies unarmed sound sets. As for your battle music suggestion, sorry that was my bad for writing it as I did, when I said tricky, I meant more tricky as it involves coding something specifically  in rather than the user just changing the track. It’s not actually particularly difficult code, it just means lots of little behind the scenes stuff such as having to add additional saving and loading  for each map, adding new menu options and interfaces for selecting the music  , then some internal decisions as to where this music would be stored, if it  was in the music folder then I would have to have different pointers for the default music and custom music, if I added it to the battle folder I would need to add extra code to sable for it to search that folder, then would need to possibly look at ways of not including some of the non-music tracks which are in that folder. The victory music would require all the same  requirements,, although with the added addition that it takes an intro and main track at present.. As for your questions about elementals, it doesn’t work quite like that, so one thing is not automatically resilient to another, the creator gets to decide this themselves. If you want to create for example some watery armour of might , this would only be resilient to fire if you choose to add fire resilience to it, you could just as easily add necrotic resilience , it doesn’t make as much sense, but  with this set up the creator is free to set what items are resilient to one another, rather than us decide that for you, so it gives a lot more  freedom and customisation options to each creator.@ Bryan P, ah, sorry I completely miss understood, I probably hadn’t had enough tea  (or maybe too much tea hahaha) when  I read your message, it makes perfect sense now I’m rereading it. yes,  your right I think it would make more sense as you suggested, ability code  is something I completely re wrote last month, I got rid of the old code and added all new code in its place, the new code is a lot smaller, with all the same functionality (in fact a little more actually), but is more user friendly and intuitive to use, its more future proofed as easier to add new status affect types from a coding stand point  and just a lot easier to manage behind the scenes. Due to such a big overhaul this is why a few issues are being spotted here, like your cure poison bug and some timing issues as you mentioned. so if you do come across anything else like this do let me know, some things aren’t always as easy to change, but most timing issues like this are, so if anything doesn’t feel right timing wise like you spotted, just let me know and I can add it to my list of suggestions.@ dragons, although this can’t be done directly at present, there are ways around   this. you could create some armour which increases the players starting max  hp, then  equip this armour to the specific class, this way if the player starts with this class they will start with  that armour and therefore also the increased max hp. As for increasing their actual hp to match their new increased max hp, at present Sable doesn’t do this, but I’m adding it to my list of suggestions. a tempory  work around: you could just set a trigger object  which restores the  parties hp, set it as an auto transition, with no sound and no text, the player wouldn’t even know they have stood on it but it would restore their hp instantly to full. Obviously you would need to set this as a single use trigger so it only fired once. I think if you had the player actually start on that auto trigger it would automatically fire as the player loaded the map for the first time, although I’ve not tried that  myself so would need to check it, but I think it would work hahaha.@ dungeon Diver, sadly , yes sable will expire on the 31st may 2020 and projects will
