Re: Accessible Android mud client?

Use magisk. It's not hard to do a quick google search, most likely there will be a guide on how to root using magisk with your device, the process will be slightly different depending on what you're using. If this is the only reason you want to root though, my advice is don't even bother. I'm like, 99% sure there isn't a way you can get access to the linux shell, if such a thing even exists any more, and even if you could get a regular linux dystro to run under arm, you can say goodbye to actually using your phone as a phone. Also, like, using it in general without a computer, since as far as I'm aware orka has no touch screen support.

VIP has this really stupid bug, I'm not going to say what it is here for obvious reasons, but those of you who've used it will know what I'm talking about. Basically, it takes a grand total of 0 effort to bypass the trial without paying, and I'd imagine that's what most people still using the thing are doing. I still do use it for miriani, but miriani is really the only mud I play, and even that I'm very rapidly drifting away from.

Kb is correct on assistance, though really buying 10 underwater breathing potions and just popping one when you need it is no problem, you get more than enough gold in game, especially if you sell off unwanted stuff you find from enemies rather than just sacking it straight off.Oh, and if you found the entrance to undersea shipwrecks you should be able to find the entrance to crafter's forge as it's a fairly similar process.I'm more a DIY sort of chap myself, though I have greatfully accepted buffs from more senior players on occasion too.

Re: I am mad at this forum

I honestly don't understand how no one's pointed this out, clearly many of you are extremely shallow, but this is quite obviously someone with a mental illness of some description. You already know he doesn't even remotely understand the meaning of the word radical, the fact that you're choosing to take his threats to kill the OP completely literally just stinks of deliberate shortsightedness. I agree he should be banned, but only because he's most likely going to end up hurting himself a lot more than others.I go to a boarding school for blind people, but, naturally, they end up taking on a lot of people who have any number of learning disabilities in addition to their blindness. A lot of them are around my age, and yet all of them act like they're not much older than 5. That's not their fault, that's just how they are. And, yes, they do often end up saying and doing a lot of the stupid shit that young children do. Would it be fair of me to call them out for it? Tell them to grow the fuck up and act their age?Because, you know, that's what we used to do in the 1800s. People with learning difficulties, mental illnesses, whatever you want to call them, were viewed as simply being lazy. They were told they were just too stupid, immature or both, or often accused of just deliberately acting the way they did to cause trouble or even just for attention. So why the fuck are you guys playing with fire? Whatever happened to being empathetic towards other people? My god.

I think my biggest gripe is that this keyboard+controller problem was present half a year ago and appears, if anything, to have gotten worse, not better. This doesn't give me great vibes when it comes to QC. Other things were improved upon or included, and that's good. I'm not ignoring any of that. But the lack of fixes for what ought to be a pretty straightforward issue, when that issue was exhaustively explained many times before, leaves a pretty bitter taste. I'm not especially fond of the sense that bug reports and feedback are only being paid lip-service to, instead of being heeded. We're your player base.

Re: The Vale (final?) Demo

I have now completed the demo. I really liked the demo. The voice acting is really good and I like the Music. I downloaded the game from itch.io and had no problem with it. However, I had to press space twice to enter the main menu. The voice told me to press space to enter main menu which I did. I then had to press space again to go through the options. THis shouldn't be the case. I also noticed that I had to select the instructions to keyboard beacause when I started the demo I got the controller options for movement instead of keyboard. I could move on to the next area by pressing m and then space. I Think the menus should have rapping system when cycling through the options. I didn't notice any weird things with the character's accents, I liked all the voices. All in all, great demo and I can't wait for the full game to be released.

Re: Improving your Chess

hello,@39: XBoard is... how to call it... the program behind WinBoard. It's for Linux, WinBoard is its Windows port. Also, I have just checked, XBoard supports uci engines. You just need to have Polyglot installed, it's a middle-layer connecting uci engines with XBoard. It's available in repository on Linux:sudo apt install polyglotor as a .exe file for Windows, you need to make sure that WinBoard can find it, either in path or in its root directory.Everything should work then, i have successfully configured Stockfish in XBoard and it works. I won't be using it for playing though, as I would definitely lose, but it should work for analysis.if you managed to make uci engines work with WinBoard, that would be the best option. It contains all features you describe, even online play.@40: as for shogi, it seems we have the same motivation. What I don't like on chess is, how easy is it to draw. Just take the last competition between Magnus Carlsen and Fabiano Caruana. How many matches did they play? 10? 12? I'm not sure now, but all of them ended as a draw.Shogi doesn't seem to have this problem, as the number of figures in game is constant during the whole gameplay, so there is always a way to surprise your opponent and win.I finally got it working in XBoard. Not with Fairymax though, I've used SjaakII, which also supports Crazyhouse. It works nicely, the only problem is, how the dropping works. Instead of using a standalone place to list available pieces, the board gets additional 4 columns (2 to the left and 2 to the right), from which two are symbolic borders made of non-active pawns, and two, those on the edges, are free and contain the captured figures. That itself wouldn't be a problem, the issue is, that these columns are also counted in the coordinates system. So, for example, in Crazyhouse, the chessboard starts on square c1, ends on j8, and when I want to move for example e2-e4, I must do g2-g4, c7-c5 is announced as e7-e5 etc. Shogi has the same problem, instead of 9 columns, there are 13, and the coordinates are always shifted. It's quite annoying, I'm thinking about setting up a speech filter, which would correct it. But otherwise it works. There is also a variant called minishogi. It's a normal shogi, just played on 5x5 board, with only 6 starting pieces on each side.It should be technically playable on a normal chessboard, the only problem is, that shogi has much more figure types than chess, thus another set would be required to provide them. The figures of second set could be marked with a relief dot for example, so they would be easily distinguishable from the firstone.I'm currently trying to get it working in XBoard as well, as 5x5 board could be very practical for us. There are significantly less diagonals and possible moves, while at the same time the game could be still funny thanks to the shogi's dropping rule.As for Go, yes, I'm very interested in this game as well. I'm not just unsure about some rules, but for example also don't understand, how is it possible to capture a group of pieces, when just by making a straight line, every move creates two additional liberties for the opponent to block. Each part had 12x12 cm (plus some height of course), so the whole goban was supposed to have 36x36 cm. hello,@39: XBoard is... how to call it... the program behind WinBoard. @27If you're a security consultant, I'm not sure how you can be saying this with a straight face.  That data includes credit card numbers, your sexual orientation, what kind of porn you like.  And I believe this is on phones, so it also includes basically literally everything else about you.  At all.  And that's before we even get to the derived stuff like Cambridge Analytica.perhaps you're an odd enough person that random strangers somewhere who value your data enough that they're buying it from you with shady apps knowing your weird fetishes and your credit card numbers doesn't bother you, but I think it's grossly irresponsible and borderline unethical to say "I'm a security consultant and I see no problem with this" in a context where most people don't know what kind of data these apps are taking, and don't believe those of us who are qualified when we try to tell them.  That's anti-security consulting. If someone actually makes the choice to give the incredibly shady app their entire internet history for the possible vague promise of some small amount of money in the future and the hope that it won't ever be hacked or sent somewhere you don't want it to be, it's a free world.  But is $20 really worth intentionally selling your darkest secrets?  I mean yeah, a lot of big tech companies have them anyway, but someone like Google has a vested interest in making sure they handle it with some degree of responsibility, and something like Honeygain has a vested interest in handling it as irresponsibly as they can possibly get away with, so...

Pressing alt to leave the map screen also didn’t work, but pressing M again gets me back to gameplay.

Re: a small concern about the public record of disciplinary action

How is that exploding. Like, here's what I don't understand. You guys have been on him from day one, and you expect him to just sit there passively and accept it? Tell me where the line is, because you guys have been over it more than once, but he hasn't put on the mod hat and railed on your asses like I quite frankly think you deserve. How much is too much. Literally, you could be with him in the same room and get pissed that he's breathing, he'd stop and you'd bitch about that? Your claims are weak, but yet you persist. Who are the children now?So him putting on the mod hat and warning you for blatant character assassination - which is what you guys are doing - may not be ethical; however he does have another recourse. He could ask someone else on the team, or put it to the team as a whole to decide what to do with you guys. He hasn't done that, and he's got every right to.So your claims are becoming more and more spurious. If you have a ledger of all the mistakes he's made, and all the slack he's giving you guys who come at him with absolutely nothing, they don't balance out. He's more than repaid that debt, and at least to me, has earned back some respect. I'm not looking at him with the side eye like I'm expecting him to do something suspicious at any moment yet. Good god, how long has it been, two years or so now?I think it's time to put up or shut up. Bring all your evidence to the stand, or quit trashing the dude. Y'all gotta move on with your lives at some point and quit holding onto some single thread of malice because he came around here banging his chest at first.I didn't like his actions whatsoever at first. I still don't agree with some of the things he does now, but he's working from a place of good, not ill. If you can't see that, it's your problem. Like I said in another post, all this shit is making you all lose your credibility. Y'all are the ones that cry wolf. You better hope some big shit don't go down or you'll be caterwauling and no one will listen to you because you've lost your power and credibility by throwing out baseless accusations. If he was still acting like he was on day 1 even now, believe me, I wouldn't be saying this. But you all are just children mad at the world for no real reason.

Re: Cytolk, cython extension over the tolk library

@11For the projects I know of of yours, it doesn't matter.  It does, in my case.@12I'm pretty sure NVDA's controller client is LGPL.  I think Tolk is also LGPL.  You went MIT so you already technically have a license conflict, which you may or may not want to fix, though in this specific situation it doesn't matter in practice.  But if both Tolk and the NVDA controller client are LGPL, you can link them both in no problem.  Unfortunately I suspect that'll need changes to Tolk, which tries to load it via a DLL.

I have that same error when pressing Play after running through the screen configuration prompt. Changing the configuration didn't make a difference nor did keeping the default settings.Windows version: Windows 10Ver1909 (64-bit) build 18363.1016Tried running as admin or running the program in compatibility mode and I've got no different result so far.BTW, just to be accurate, it is the itch.io version that I'm talking about. On another side note, I could not download the entire game on itch.io as the server keeps timing out after a given amount of time, 30 minutes if I recall correctly, which isn't enough for someone with such an Internet connection as mine that can barely download the game in 50 minutes or an hour if everything worked as intended, and thus I hope you do something about that issue if possible so that I can download the game directly from the website instead of asking someone to upload it elsewhere for me.

Yeah sure I guess. Until like September 8th I'm free just about all the time, but after that I'll have school to contend with. I don't care about TT or Discord for voice conversations, but pls don't use Skype for voice because audio is terrible in multiple ways. I guess the all-in-one solution would be Discord because then we've got both voice and text, but if people want to do the TT for voice and Skype for text combo I'm fine with that as well.

Given that I opened up the first round to Linux testers today, I'll know that soon enough. Generally agreed with you, though. Re: Cytolk, cython extension over the tolk library

@pauliyoboIf you inlined the source files so that you're building them as part of setup.py without using whatever Tolk uses, you can probably also upload the source version and have it work for people.  That'll take some doing especially if your first question is what I mean by this, but it's worth considering as a potentially easy win if you know enough about setup.py to try for it.To clarify, do we need to distribute the NVDA redistributable DLL or does it statically link that too?@NicklasMCHDAppveyor has by far the most mature Windows support.  There's no other particular advantage beyond that, but it's a pretty big one.  For Linux and/or Mac, doing unattended installation of software libraries and things is much more doable, but for Windows that's a massive headache, and the list of stuff Appveyor has pre-installed before you is big enough to actually be one of those web pages that lags NVDA for multiple seconds while it loads.  Plus, you then also get all the Windows package managers if you really need something else that they don't already have. The other CI providers are catching up, and maybe they'll eventually be competitive.  They certainly work in simple cases.  But Appveyor has Linux now, and I'll take bare-bones Linux distro and apt install over trying to figure out how to install some tool on Windows.

Re: ai in my file player can only add 256 items to a list before crashing

Yes this is a media player. Starting from your user folder, you can browse around the folders and files on your computer. It will compile a list of folders and files, sort them, and display the results for you to browse. When you press enter on a file, it adds it to the library. You can also have the bot choose files for you. The player is going to select random files from the library to play. Here is my search function.import os
import time

#whether the user or bot is controlling events

#mark the position before bot takes over, and return to this spot when it is done

Is anyone interested in an informal book club?

Hey guys. You know I've been reading a lot lately. I just had the generic lightbulb moment. Why don't I turn that love of reading into an online book club? Details can be negotiable, number of meetings, meeting time, and so on. I'm going to assume most of you are able to obtain books somehow. So here's the deal. If you're interested, let me know. I'll find a way to set up the meetings and things like that. We can take turns choosing books, so my bad taste won't be a problem, haha. As I see it now, we have 3 options for meeting, TT, Skype groups, and discord. If there is enough interest, I'll get our stuff set up and we can go ahead with finding our first book. I'm doing this because I've always wanted a way to discuss books, but I haven't found anything like this. My rule is if you have an idea and can't find anything like it, fix that. So now, any takers? Let's make this fun.

Re: Audio Racing Games

2020-08-27 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — General Game Discussion : ironcross32 via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Audio Racing Games

Currently none, though I do play Forza 7 on PC and Xbox.I've thought a lot about driving mechanics. The bad news is that things get complicated if we're talking about open roads. For closed circuits though, it's not that bad.Having good sound design on the track is key. In other words, things like rumble strips, marbles, gravel, dirt and grass to let you know you've gone off track. Of course, if you were doing offroading or rally stages, there would have to be other indicators. If you wanted to model the track in full 3D, we'd need a way of knowing if we got turned around and are going the wrong way. Optional speak speed at logical markers. Optional indicate gaining / losing a position. The audible equivalent of a shift light to optimize your gear shifts and help lap times.Knowing what kind of turn is coming up will be necessary. I actually kind of see this as three markers. The entry corner, the apex, and the exit. But we'll need to know if it's a gentle curve or a chicane into an S-bend or hairpin or something. If you plan on having jumps, we'd still need this info in the air if, say, a turn was coming up soon after the landing. Though we might go too fast, and not necessarily hit it the first time. Also, that kind of information should somewhat be speed dependent.Another thing is having an idea how far from other vehicles you are. I think a lot of it can be done just by carefully listening if the stereo field / 3D spacialization is well done. However, one thing that often gets me about playing Forza 7 is that I never really know how fast I can go out of the gate. To combat this, I think we should know where in the lineup we start. Also, perhaps have the type of lineup and the type of start described before the race begins? For example: The lineup consists of cars in a three-wide formation. There are 12 rows for a total of 36 cars. You start in the second row at the far right. This is a rolling start, so when the flag tone is heard, you will have immediate control of the vehicle and will already be moving.Ideally, there will need to be some balance in the amount of cues and information we're receiving. TTS verbiage during the race should be very short phrases. Just enough to get the information across and nothing more. The sound design will play a huge part in this, but I'd like to lay out how I see it in my mind. To me, it makes sense that the entire audio experience be divided into two layers. The first one does not seek to provide any information overtly. Any information gained via clueing into this layer is just good sound design paired with sharp hearing. This is the layer that makes up the environment all around the vehicle, as well as the vehicle itself. In this layer, the conditions of the track and vehicle are brought alive for the player to experience. Things like the weather causing wet spots on the track, The tires of the vehicle running up against the rumble strips and slowing you down, tires squealing as you go around a corner just a bit too fast and break traction and everything else defines this layer. The second layer is what you might call the accessibility layer. This provides information that you wouldn't normally be able to get from just listening to the environment around you. For instance, a radar beep that gets faster the closer you come to the car in front of you. A whooshing wind sound that indicates you're catching their draft, and an even stronger one when you use that extra speed to cut out in front of them. Little sounds that indicate various things that we should know all come together to form this accessibility layer.Things get more complicated if we're talking about semi-open roads to full on open world racing. If there are shortcuts to be taken, how will these be marked. Intersections or junctions need a special marking. Not only that, but we need to know if they are four way or T off. Challenges for rally stages might be how to determine if you're off the beaten path. Maybe a different dirt sound, random sounds of running through brush and so on combined with a slow down of your speed.

Re: ai in my file player can only add 256 items to a list before crashing

I have no idea what's wrong, but I can promise it's not Python at fault.  As usual with these sorts of threads, you need to be more specific: you haven't actually said what specifically you're doing or how specifically it breaks.  You're just explaining one function (and not very well, I'm afraid) and saying somehow it goes wrong, maybe I'm expecting too much from Python?  Is this a media player? Are you trying to automate something else?  What's the exception? Etc etc etc. are all important details you haven't given us.I'm also pretty sure that the number of files doesn't matter.  You're playing around with randomness.  This means that if you find bugs, they'll happen randomly, to oversimplify the math.  Shifting some code around can change how fast that happens just because it changes how likely the buggy path is to be hit.

I'm trying to be better about not starting it, and realizing which types of posts of mine contribute to furthering it, but I'll always want to be there ringside when shit goes down. While I agree it's  relatively easy to put a link to the exact post where a moderation happened, and I don't think it's at all above and beyond, we don't really need a direct link to it. The forum has its own search features, and if you took the time to get to grips with some of its advanced features, you could find this info. Alternatively, you could use google and have it do a site wide search which is apt to be more powerful in my opinion.Do with that what you will. If you just wanna get a ringside ticket to the bullshit like being live at the studio when they film Jerry Springer, go for it. If you have legitimate concerns about a moderator action, go for it.To sum up, I'm basically saying that the tools are there for you guys to find the info if you want it. Though I do somewhat agree that it's not really any more troublesome to go up to the previous heading hit two keys to put the link in the clipboard and then paste it into the disciplinary post.

Re: Cytolk, cython extension over the tolk library

Erg. Not to triple post, but you can also build this locally, skip CI, and upload with twine directly from your machine, and you can use something like Anaconda to manage multiple Python environments with different versions for you, which will skip the entire CI problem.
