Hi azure. Is it possible to make an external server program for Linux, or a program which supports the command line in Windows?I'm not able to run a server on my linux server, because you need to run the server inside the game. But if an external server program which supports the command line is being made, then I can host a stable server for all to join.

@750 thanks for the recommendation! I've started playing crystal anniversary. I have to say the story is completely different though, since you start in pallet town like in first gen. none of the exits or maps seem to be labelled so far, but I've started relabelling them, and at least that works.love how there is a ton of variety of pokemon to encounter in grass as opposed to original version. and pokemon have a lot more moves. so I am overall loving it although none of the exits or maps being labelled is annoying. I guess the reason might be that the starting areas don't exist in pokemon crystal. do you know if later areas are labelled more?edit: I tried following the instructions from post 377 about editing the footsteps in ram.lua, but it didn't work for me. have you confirmed footsteps work for you for crystal anniversary?

Re: Kenshira Plays: Audio playthroughs and demos of mainstream games

Hi, everyone! Its a new day, which means that its time for a new game! Today, the hollow night becomes my battleground as I play through Under Night In-birth exe: late[st] for the ps vita, also available for ps3, ps4, switch, and pc.First, a bit of history. My brother and I got our first vita pretty close to launch, either around 2012/13, and we were both pretty excited to start collecting for it, which we did for a good couple years until my brother started working on our ps4 library, and I was distracted by several muds and a relationship to give the handheld much thought. I always felt like it was something special, though, so fast forward a couple more years to last year, and I finally have a vita of my own and a 64 gb memory card so I've got tons of digital storage and am ready to resume building up our library. Where my brother focused on the physical games, I put my primary focus on the digital ones. Among the many I snagged at the end of last year was Under Night In-birth Exe:Late[st]. Thats literally how the title is written, so I'll just refer to it as Under Night from here on.Although it came out years ago, i only discovered under night last year when I was hunting hard for games to play. For those unfamiliar with the game, it is a 2d anime-style 3 button fighter with a reasonably sized roster, extensive tutorial, tons of lore, lengthy visual novel-style story, and tons of modes to sink your teeth into. The game is fully voiced in japanese, and all of the main modes are spoken when you choose them. There is a lot of story crammed into the arcade mode for each character, and the chronicles mode sets the stage with how the world came to be as it was, and how each character came to be involved in the story. The game has the option to turn auto scrolling of dialog on and off so you have time to read with whatever means is at your disposal, but for the sake of this recording, I left it on so that I don't accidentally skip over dialog or pause too long between them. In the demo below, I give myself 1 credit to try to clear arcade on the standard difficulty. How far will I get? Listen to find out!under night audio demoAs stated earlier, you can still pick this up today on ps4, vita, switch, and pc. With exception to the vita version, the other 3 got an update this year that added a new character and made balance fixes to the fighting engine. The game has remained relatively underground since it came out almost 8 years ago, but has since gained a cult following, so maybe give this a try if you're looking for a cool new meaty fighter to sink your teeth into.I hope you guys enjoyed today's game. Next week, we'll dive into something less violent for the last time this year. Tune in then to know what it is. Until next time!

Re: 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim Discussion

Hi.I'm thinking about making a spoiler free guide for the game, explaining the menus and how everything works. I haven't figured out everything yet, but thanks to all your help and to other people who aren't active on this forum, I've figured out a lot of great stuff.Such gide will take time to make, so I don't know when it'll be finish.Just one question: Would you like a guide containing all the text from the tutorials in the game? That would be possible for me to make, but it'll take long time to make. An other solution would be to just explain what the tutorials says and what to do, which would be much easier to do.My goal is to make a guide so people don't have to use OCR that much. There are a few people who can't use OCR.As far as I've figured out so far, the upgrade menu is the only place where you need OCR. Mestery files is not really that important as I thought.I might have figured out a way to explain where the different locations leads to. But I have to look more into that.I'm thinking about recording the important sounds from the game, make a list of sounds and explain what they mean. But that'll take time as well but I think it would be worth it.Is there anything else you wanna see in such guide?

Re: What is the best platform to play on if you cannot see?

The question is not what the future thing will be. It is entirely possible that consoles will be the future, but right now the amount of games that are playable on PC vastly outweighs the amount of games that are playable on console. The question is what is relevant now, and if you're going to make a game specifically targeted towards blind people, making a console game is a great way to ensure your game flops.

Re: Using braille to play interactive fiction, is it possible?

@Post 1, just grabbed dFrotz.zip from the Interactive Fiction Archive's Interpreters directory.  I am doing this on an xp vm on my mac, so I was not able to test it out with my Braille Edge directly, but I was able to load Zork into the thing and have Nvda reading it mostly ok.  It was repeating some words occasionally, but I'm not sure if that's Nvda's fault or my unfamiliarity with this version of the program. What I did was extracted both Dfrotz.exe and Zork's data file to C:\Dfrotz, then changed to the folder with the cd command.   Since the command prompt puts you in your user folder by default, type "cd .." without the quotes until you get all the way up to C:.  Then type "cd Dfrotz", again without the quotes and that should put you into the Dfrotz folder.Next, to run Zork, in our example, type "dfrotz Zork1.dat" and it should run for you.I also got Frotz running on my mac via Homebrew, and I can report on that you will probably run into the same problem with using a Braille Display with it, in that it will be constantly needed to be scrolled back, since Voiceover will jump you right past all of the game text whenever you do something.  I'm guessing that Dfrotz will exhibit similar results, but I think there may be a way to set it to hopefully not do that.In my next post, I'll post the output of the help page for Dfrotz on this Windows Xp Vm  for you.

And there are still folks who refuse to get a PS 4 just to play Last of Us. It would actually be nice to have moore games for my x-Box, but I don't think we should be sending new devs to develop for either the playstation or x-box since in the already micro audiogame market that makes up a tiny seggment.

Re: Braille: do you guys still use it in this digitalized world?

I use it on a day-to-day basis. Do I like it? No. Really, if I had an option, math would be the only thing I would do in braille. Everything else would be done on my laptop.  However, due to the, stringent, requirements placed by the college board on the administrations of end-of-the-year exams, I am forced to use braille in preparation for the tests.  If I had a choice, however, I would go mostly digital.  Braille is slow to read, and I have been at it for three or so years. I still struggle to go through the assignments at the same speed as my peers, which is critical for some of the rigorous courses that I am in.  I just do not comprehend the reasoning behind using such an old standard despite its drawbacks and lack of availability. Really, think about it: books take at least 3 to 4 months if you are lucky, the overall standards are not enforced,  figures and graphs are often poorly done and require outside input,  and overall the volume to store, say, a geometry textbook, is ridiculous due to it being composed of 100 or so volumes when converted to braille.  I’ll pass.

Hi,@Post 1, I do not know of a reliable way to read the output on windows, unless you can get Frotz for the command line to work via the windows command prompt or something.  As for Frotz on iOS, that, surprisingly, works quite well with Braille displays.  You can send the zCode files over to your phone via ftp, and they will work pretty easily.Braille Screen Input is also fun to play around with, as well.  As for WinFrotz and that NVDA Addon, I do not know of a way to have it output things a line at a time or what have you.  I do wonder just how many platforms that Frotz has been ported to, as of now, though?

Re: starting into sound design, any tips?

Hi there fonograficoAs you say, you use AudacityI think, to make sounds like that of roaring dragons, you can take sounds from different areas, combine them, and edit these. Example, swooshes, mechanical grinding sounds, diesel engines and, many other non-animal sounds to improve the quality of the dragon cry/rore.

starting into sound design, any tips?

hi all. hope you good luck buying in black fridayi created this topic, because i need tips from sound designers. what plug ins i should use? whatever. i've been recently making gun sounds, from a sound with reverv that sounds a bit like someone bumping into a wooden wall into a building like the one on ofensive worldi also made a crafted explosion by slowing down a gun sound and using a plug in called fire and explosion sounds on audacity. i use audacity for all the sound designing, because reaperr is hard to learn for me. my head would explode with all that informationand i'm struggling on reaper very badly, so i cant use reaper for the moment unles i motivate myself to use it and learn how to use that powerful programi also made a strange ghost ambience that sounds likie a bizarre thing, a few laser cannon sounds, two giant laser cannon sounds, four or more cave dripping sounds, and i've been converting things into sinusoidal too using a plugin i have. sadly, i dont know how to make dragon sounds, or creature sounds for that matter, but it might be because i dont have money to buy that much sounds. at least the free sounds i have sound high quality, so there's not much of problems there unless i use something to try and download free sounds that are paid.my aim is not to use stolen sounds like some that i have somewhere... i'll keep them for myself, because they are stolen. i'm not going to use those for sound designing, i'm going to only use the few free sounds i have. also not using the ones that have a comercial license, core2free sampler.any tip is apreciated.

The updated IF interpreters addon is available here. After some testing, I found that the addon is somewhat usable with braille, but has issues, most notably that the output will not actually read from the top. It will scroll to the bottom and you have to go back to read the game's output.

Re: 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim Discussion

Yes, because enemies will not always be in range. There's no way to tel where you need to move. And remember that each sentinel specializes in different areas... your skills may just not be able to hit a particular type of enemy such as if they're flying but your sentinel is melee oriented. Just focus on the vocal warnings you get about being in enemy threat range.

Since it's a tower defense game, there's no real moving that has to be done. IF you want to go after enemies, that's different... but generally, your starting positions are all you need, and enemies will come to you. There's only one instance where you actually have to move, and that's during the tutorial.

@28Manual is synthizer.github.io.  Not sure how to answer your question other than to suggest reading it.I strongly suggest that you find whatever the .net equivalent of cffi and/or rust-bindgen is so that you can just generate the low-level bindings.  In particular, the headers don't have stable constants yet, so if you don't have a way to re-run that on incompatible version bumps you'll have a lot of pain ahead of you until 1.0.  You'll want to read the versioning policy.Buying a networking solution is the sort of thing some big enterprise does somewhere because the managers thought it'd be a neat idea even though the programmers said not to do it.  There is no tech reason you should ever buy a networking library unless you're under weird legal requirements, and probably not even then.

I've found that coders often have to make the choice between loading the sounds the first time they play (slower in the actual game) or at the start (slower when starting the program).  I don't know about you, but I'd much prefer the latter.Automatically gaining items for kills doesn't seem so bad to me...  After all, it's still the same in the end right?  And I don't much like running around frantically gathering items while trying to listen to the enemies my self anyway.  I guess it's just one of those mechanics choices that helps make games a bit different from each other.I bet you'll get better at the game and survive longer after practice, I had the same trouble with Oh Shit for a long time too.

Re: Help decide what will be in Synthizer 1.0

about the github thingi, it's not a geography problem, it worked well two days ago. I called my ISP, they said they will fix it. Plus, I have a project in github, it's my first medium sized .net app, I think it'll include even hard to implement features like syncronisation with user accounts and stuff. If you want more info, it can be thought as a kind of book reader for android thingi, . So , as you can imagine, it's important to get github access fixed for me as well, as I already have two or so commits to push, so yeah.now, about the audio library supporting everything, it's OK...for now, untill the library becomes more stable, in my opinion. For example, I think recording should be possible at a later date when it's more mature, even if not too sofisticated. Like...something like my API would be enough.Regardless, once I finish this graduation exams, I'll definitely  start writing the c# bindings. btw, is it written in the manual where the most important headers are so I can bind the most relevant things first?and thanks for the warning about ice, I'll better try to create a tiny personal networked audiogame demo with grpc and find out for my self how it goes, if horible or not.Problem is, as everyday these days, time, sweet time...to little have we of it in this world anymore. Everything just go so fast, why can't they slow down so I could finish my app and start that binding? rofl

Re: Sandbox MUD

2020-11-22 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Developers room : jjaquinta via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Sandbox MUD

Tab completion is a very interesting idea. For fuzzy matching I'd have to span the entire possible input space anyway, and that would make tab completion possible as well.Yes, I am sighted, and came into this via doing Alexa stuff. The only people who really played my more involved games were visually impaired, so I figured I might as well just focus on that. I do apologize for naive misunderstandings on my part, as I clearly don't have a native understanding of this space. And I thank you, or anyone else, for pointing out those naive misunderstandings. I'm also on the older side, and have been a software engineer my entire career. Business though, not games, so while I have no trouble coding difficult things, I can still make other naive game mistakes.Professionally right now I'm team lead on a project that does have a full rollout hierarchy from local to development to test to sandbox to staging to production. So I get where you are going. You are right, it is a hard problem to solve with a pure moo where there is no real boundary between data and code. That does weaken the use case I was trying to demonstrate with The Sandbox concept. Unless I can think of a solution to make staged roll outs possible. But that's a hard one, so let me talk about some other use cases. This use case assumes a basic deployment that does nothing except provide an environment. The users then have the ability, as gameplay, to create more gameplay. I like that a lot, coming from an very early very happy experience with LambdaMOO. But your language, and others here, more points to the idea of one or a small team of developers creating content, and releasing that for mostly static game play by the users. So, looking at that use case, that's kind of what I've got at the core level. The lowest layer (the jo.audio.loci.core  project) is the very basic fundamental stuff. The root objects, verb structures, and the engine that evaluates a line of text against a position in that environment and matches it to a verb with direct object, preposition, and indirect object. The Sandbox is built on top of that (the jo.audio.loci.sandbox project). In LambdaMOO terms, it's kind of the baseline code that most MOOs start with. But it's all in Java and only enables extensions through data. I've suggested making that layer extensible so that additional logic could be added via embedded scripts in _javascript_ or some other language, akin to the MOO scripting language. But it doesn't have to be used that way. Certainly the non-sandbox ideas that I wanted to pursue would be built on top of the core, with the read-only verbs from the Sandbox, and procedural generators creating the non-volatile object store. That is more akin to your use case where it is a foundation for development. But my assumption, which may be a naive assumption, is that Java as a programming language is not very accessible to the visually impaired. That's why my thinking went in the direction of small nuggets of scripting done from within the environment. If that's not the case, then the distinction between code and data is much clearer, and just some sort of data merge facility would have to exist to test and then roll out changes. If scripting in the environment is more consumable, and logic can be authored in the environment, something much more sophisticated is needed. So this has set off a few more ideas rolling through my mind that need time to gel. I'm a big fan of test driven development, and even for a personal project like this I have a parallel unit test project (jo.audio.loci.sandbox.test) that I used while developing to test new features and catch regressions that any of my changes caused. The tests are all in the form of "say this, and then ensure these words are, or are not, in the output". Having some sort of formalized tests associated with a project, and changes to a project, might be part of a mechanism to validate merges. Years ago when I was writing test automation tools, I had a colleague who had devised a system that would kind of randomly shuffle your existing scripts and do them in different orders to look for bugs. I did not think that was particularly useful for a Word Processor, but it might have a roll here. So, I said that for tab completion or fuzzy matching, I would need to be able to create the span of all possible inputs. In a testing context, this could be used to generate a series of correct, although random, commands. With an initial starting condition, one could run a few thousand of these, and save off the end condition. (My scripts currently run at about 100 commands a second. A real system would be slower, but probably enough to make this too slow.) You could do a few of these and save the results before a merger, and then after a merger, to search for regressions. Truly new functionality will throw it, of course. I need to think about if this helps or not in creating a CI/CD type pipeline.

Re: Help decide what will be in Synthizer 1.0

@25No, you can't currently do wav file transformations or anything like that.  This is a library for game audio, not a library for anything you ever wanted to do with audio that happens to be useful for games.  If you're just trying to ask if you'll be able to render audio cutscenes or whatever, eventually but I don't have an ETA.That networking thing looks like "we decided to write our own GRPC".  Use it if it works, don't if it doesn't.  I don't want to derail this thread, so I'll state my opinion briefly and leave it at that: if you're doing an FPS like swamp you either need one of a very few specific libraries or to do a custom solution.  If you're doing almost anything else, you can use the worst thing you can find and it'll probably work anyway at least at the scale of an audiogame.  Also, having to write your network messages in an IDL is the only way to do this cross-language and, unless you're in Rust or don't mind hand-writing a bunch of obscure stuff, required for maximally efficient encoding. Can you access the manual?  If not, and if you can prove that it's something about geography--for instance my country bans GitHub--I'm not adverse to at least getting the manual moved somewhere else.  But you should really figure out what's going on, it's going to be next to impossible for you to collaborate on anything as a programmer without it, and Synthizer has outgrown me trying to track everything going on via audiogames.net threads.

Re: google chrome being a pain in the butt

That is a strange post in general. An error that seemingly only one person has, that person asks how to fix it, and somebody just comes in and says "That's why I use Firefox."I mean, this helps nobody, is no argument for anything and because you probably will never see that behavior at all, it's not even an argument for yourself

Re: google chrome being a pain in the butt

@bgt lover, It's less snappy when navigation, though to be fair, that's pretty much all the issue I have with the main browser. The other services such as Firefox Send and Lockwise kinda feel a bit half-baked though. But I've got both browsers running, and it's baffles me that Google Chrome is noticeably much snappier, like when switching tabs. And while Firefox's add-on store has  most big things I was after, there's still a couple of things only found on the Chrome Web Store. It also seems to play nicer in some places with the Google web suite, though I could say the same with Firefox, the whole experience is slightly inconsistent.

Re: Fantasy story ii

azure, why are you using a vpn software like radmy or hamachi? With some friends we can connect together with any vpn software between us.I only opened a server, used a ports that I've open on my nat, and send to my friends my ip. They can connect without any issue and we are playing for a few hours. If you have a dynamic ip, you can solve passing the ip with some dynamic dns service like no-ip to have a domain name or similar :3And wow. The game is amazing!Do you know if this is geting updates? Or this is a final version. Is awesome really and some things like build parties (groups) to move all players at the same time, or quests will be a great adition to the game. Thanks, is awesome.
