I read somewhere else that they had markers on certain posts saying they had false information and such, and thought that should be good enough. You are given information sending you to the correct source, but allowed to see the original if people ask you about it. They probably did this because they wanted to offer their users something different from the other apps. I had never heard of people pressuring apple or google to remove the app. My main issue with the app ban is that normally people are allowed to run their apps as they please unless they go against the companies rules somehow. I never heard of anyone breaking rules that weren't related to explicit financial or national laws, and even then, they are given some sort of grace period, such as the famous epic games battle with apple that started earlier this year. From what it sounded like, parlor was given 1 or 2 days at most. This looks most similar to things I saw happening with apps getting banned in China. The government says get rid of it, and the platform removes it as quickly as possible in order to stay in business in the country. I never heard of apps being banned for being used by neffarius groups unless pressured to by governments such as the silk road website. I have heard of a politician being forced to resign because of a fake video on facebook in Indonesia, but the app is still allowed. I never heard people talking about removing the entire app when this happened, but i was living in China at the time, so maybe they did and i just didn't know about it. What's so special, or not special about parlor as compared to other apps? Also, many people say that apple and such are private businesses, and can do as they please, but these tend to be the same people who say that companies need to serve people and support things they disagree with because everyone should be treated equally. I think of all the suing over bakeries not wanting to bake cakes for gay weddings over religious objections and such. If you say you allow free speech, then why ban things? If you don't support hate speech, then what is that, and why did app developers not know of your sudden policy changes? If you support a free market, then why remove competitors? I have more of an issue with this on apple than google, because, if you want to download parlor at your own risk, on android you still can. They might have given twitter's competition a serious disadvantage, but they didn't remove them altogether like on apple. I think the thing that concerns me more about this is that their is no regulation about who and what gets banned. Why are some given more grace than others? In some place like China, when you create an app, you kind of know what will be off limits and what's ok, but not here. Several years ago this was ok, but suddenly now if someone uses your app for gathering and doing something terrible, it might be immediately banned like parlor, or it might be left alone to figure out it's problems like facebook. as a creator, how do you know what kind of treatment you will get? Unfortunately, the side of the political spectrum that chooses to use your app to organize their form of chaos and destruction seems to be the deciding factor. Hopefully the side that big tech companies agree with more chooses your app, otherwise, why make it in the first place. I think who has enough money also might have a role in this. People might not like how facebook and twitter treat them, but if all other competition is at a higher risk of being removed without the proper big money to pay off the correct people, then there is little incentive to create something new, and the big businesses like facebook and twitter can remain with a near monopoly of the social media space.[later edit] By paying the correct people I mean paying for entire teams of moderators and lawyers to defend yourself if something like this happens to your company. I offered to try and help translate, but I really do not know much Chinese, and the guy was not getting back to me very quickly with my many many questions because of my extreme lack of Chinese, so I gave up trying to translate the user manual. I hoped someone who knew more Chinese than me would be able to do a better job at it without having to ask for clarification every few paragraphs. I was pretty much just fixing the English from youdao translate because my Chinese is pretty much non existent outside of what I needed to use for work. From what I understand, zhengdu runs quicker because it is very light and either more efficient, at the back end or has less code to deal with. On newer computers,, odds are, you won't notice much difference between zhengdu and nvda, apart from sometimes when zhengdu doesn't read stuff that nvda does, or when zhengdu is better optimized for reading certain popular Chinese apps, but the speed difference might be much more noticeable on slower or older computers. When I last used it, Zhengdu had support for only 2 languages I think. I got it to read Chinese finally in windows 10, but only if I used the Chinese voice the whole time. There is a better sounding English voice, but then i couldn't hear all the Chinese words. It does not work with firefox, because that browser isn't really used in China, but the developer said that the paid version should work with chrome, and hopefully the free one now does as internet explorer was discontinued. The paid version has an instant translate function that allows you to choose among different Chinese translation engines and possibly some other things. I wrote an article describing some of this for someone's company, but at that time there was only 1 free and 1 paid version, so it is probably very out of date now. They also sometimes have public virtual convention like things, but i was busy during the one i was invited to unfortunately. The conventions are also on YY, a Chinese streaming or conferencing platform I still have not attempted yet. If I had met the developer under slightly different circumstances, I might be able to tell you much more, but this is pretty much what i know now.i also have some questions: Do you still need the physical usb stick to start the paid versions? Will my old usb stick the developer gave me still work with newer versions of zhengdu? I had it instaled on my old computer, but shortly after the battery started exploding in that computer, i lost the zhengdu usb. I found it again more recently, but if I can't update it, then I should just try the free version on this computer. Re: tau station is live When training stats jus tkeep a few things in mind:Your physical stats only need to be very well trained if you want to do a lot of combat, so unless that's important for you, only focus on getting them to exceptional level, which you can see on your character's page. Intelligence and Social aren't required for anything besides stat checks, so you only have to have those at the level they need to be exceptional. This goes up every time you level up though, so be sure to train them back up when you do that.Always make sure to train at the highest gym you can. Gyms on higher level stations have better gains, all of the time. If your stats are too low for the highest level gym you can access, find out which gym your stats work for and train there till you can go higher.Most people stockpile rations before they train so they can get large increases all at once. What they do is get the personal trainer effect, train two stats, eat a ration, train two more stats, eat another ration, etc.As for syndicates, I'm a member of TAU myself. TAU is almost full, but they have a splitoff syndicate called TTU as well. One of the two probably has free member slots. Some of the oldest game members, some of them from the CA phase, are in TAU and TTU with lots of experience and willingness to help out. We play a lot of campagnes and there's a bunch of cool programs running like ration trades and equipment rentals for campagnes. Then yesterday I phone my dad to find one of his friends suddenly died from Covid, oh and just to make thing even more fun, my lady is not well again, though we're hoping it's just a long term infection and nothing serious. I read somewhere else that they had markers on certain posts saying they had false information and such, and thought that should be good enough. You are given information sending you to the correct source, but allowed to see the original if people ask you about it. They probably did this because they wanted to offer their users something different from the other apps. I had never heard of people pressuring apple or google to remove the app. My main issue with the app ban is that normally people are allowed to run their apps as they please unless they go against the companies rules somehow. I never heard of anyone breaking rules that weren't related to explicit financial or national laws, and even then, they are given some sort of grace period, such as the famous epic games battle with apple that started earlier this year. From what it sounded like, parlor was given 1 or 2 days at most. This looks most similar to things I saw happening with apps getting banned in China. The government says get rid of it, and the platform removes it as quickly as possible in order to stay in business in the country. I never heard of apps being banned for being used by neffarius groups unless pressured to by governments such as the silk road website. I have heard of a politician being forced to resign because of a fake video on facebook in Indonesia, but the app is still allowed. I never heard people talking about removing the entire app when this happened, but i was living in China at the time, so maybe they did and i just didn't know about it. What's so special, or not special about parlor as compared to other apps? Also, many people say that apple and such are private businesses, and can do as they please, but these tend to be the same people who say that companies need to serve people and support things they disagree with because everyone should be treated equally. I think of all the suing over bakeries not wanting to bake cakes for gay weddings over religious objections and such. If you say you allow free speech, then why ban things? If you don't support hate speech, then what is that, and why did app developers not know of your sudden policy changes? If you support a free market, then why remove competitors? I have more of an issue with this on apple than google, because, if you want to download parlor at your own risk, on android you still can. They might have given twitter's competition a serious disadvantage, but they didn't remove them altogether like on apple. I think the thing that concerns me more about this is that their is no regulation about who and what gets banned. Why are some given more grace than others? In some place like China, when you create an app, you kind of know what will be off limits and what's ok, but not here. Several years ago this was ok, but suddenly now if someone uses your app for gathering and doing something terrible, it might be immediately banned like parlor, or it might be left alone to figure out it's problems like facebook. as a creator, how do you know what kind of treatment you will get? Unfortunately, the side of the political spectrum that chooses to use your app to organize their form of chaos and destruction seems to be the deciding factor. Hopefully the side that big tech companies agree with more chooses your app, otherwise, why make it in the first place. I think who has enough money also might have a role in this. People might not like how facebook and twitter treat them, but if all other competition is at a higher risk of being removed without the proper big money to pay off the correct people, then there is little incentive to create something new, and the big businesses like facebook and twitter can remain with a near monopoly of the social media space. Re: Anybody use a tactile watch? I have 2 braille watches. One is the expensive seiko one probably mentioned by post 6. I found it on amazon for about 40% off. It is mechanical, but uses a battery for the motor for the tactile hand movement which is i think different from the movement part that actually keeps time. The battery died in an old one i had when I was living in China, so I eventually got the vostok one that is mentioned in post 11. I found both on amazon. The cheaper one is completely mechanical and tics really loudly. It also needs to be wound every day or so I think. However, the thing feels like a tank, and would not surprise me if it lasted years if taken care of correctly. The expensive one is supposed to have twice as much water resistance and is probably more accurate, but useless when I live in an area where no one can afford and bother to maintain some fancy thing that isn't designed to impress your prospective wife's family. The spending behavior of people in rural China is very different from how i was raised in America. lol The mechanical backup will always work for me, and I will not have to worry about listening to phones or computers and people at work at the same time. If you don't finish high school it's, just, over. Drive through at mcdonalds wants high school, practically speaking.The primary difference between pre-18 life and post-18 life is safety nets. You can fuck up as much as you want right now, but once you're 18 and on your own there's nothing to catch you. It doesn't demand perfection or anything like that, but if you do the adult equivalent of a 2.1 GPA that translates directly into living in a shoe box with 5 roommates, if that makes sense.It's better than high school in many ways though. Your job is going to make you do job things, but there's always at least an understandable purpose behind it and stuff, which maybe helps. College is also different--it's assumed that if you're in college, you want to learn, and they don't need to shove 50 exercises a day down your throat. People compare high schools to prisons in the U.S. and I'm not actually sure that it's much of an exaggeration.You probably have somewhat of an unrealistic idea, though yes. You're far from the first person to do that though. There's a lot of sort of lies that high school likes to tell that I don't understand. I think the biggest is "man, I wish I was still in school". I mean, maybe 50 years ago school was that much better or something? I don't know.Adult happiness doesn't come from being in the moment though. It comes from arranging things so that you can have what you want. The arranging part of that is almost never enjoyable. It may not be actively horrible or anything like that. You'll be asked to play the "why do you think you'll enjoy this job? Because money is the wrong answer" game, but it helps a lot if you realize that it's actually a game and everyone else in the room doesn't actually think that way even though you're being asked the question in the interview. That extends to basically everything adult. We don't run wild with our amazing adult freedom. We spend 75% or so of our time making sure the last 25% is ours to do with as we please, and of the 75% that's basically a sacrifice to the gods, a good bit of that is pretending that you enjoy it in the room with all the other people pretending that they enjoy it.I don't mean this to sound depressing, just realistic. Want lots of sex? Sure. Weed? Yep. Everything your parents thinks is a horrible sin against society? Go for it. You can set yourself up to have straight up hedonism on very little money if that's what you want. My current project is MMO for the blind, and who knows if I'll finish it, but being an adult with a job etc means I have the resources to do things like buy art assets.Adult life is just overall bigger. Your triumphs are more triumphant. Your fuck-ups are more spectacularly fucked. Sometimes, your triumphs are your fuck-ups all at the same time in a super-sized expansion pack of character growth. Your timelines for things stop being weeks and months and switch to months and years.Maybe this is helpful, I dunno. Yes I did procrastinate but it has been improving a lot and I’ve actually been working on a lot more assignments then I would before (even completing an essay on my own without getting much help for motivation) what I’m talking about specifically now is my grade point average which is a 2.14. He's supposed to be this company's CEO? He doesn't even know what the hell is going on without waffling and him-hawing.I respect him for going as far as he has. The fact is, even if you don't like him, he did put together a game and publish it on an app store that is renowned for turning away things that don't fall nicely into their narrow topped bucket. I think his vision is a bit dreamy, and not well aligned with reality. But hey, if he's got 290 countries that are downloading the game and he's not bullshitting, then he does have a market share.I hope he finds his stride and starts recovering and even profiting. I say this often, but I never want to see any of us failing, and even if I don't like what someone's doing, I still wish success for them. If needed, an exciter goes before the reverb, and then Ozone Imager works wonders for stereo imaging. Oh, and if you're mastering on headphones, you are definitely going to want Abbey Road Studio3. Basically turns your headphones into a control room so you can reference your mix the way it was intended. If you go around that pit, there's a chest that appears to be blocked...not talking about the one in the water. It's like west of the pit that you can't jump before Lilia. South and west, maybe. The night I lost my wedding ring and rediscovered love It's always been a possibility; people lose things like this all the time. The difference here is that mine... Mine has just always been slightly too big for my thin finger, thus the possibility was more like probability, not a matter of if, but when. I thought the moment had come one day while I was looking for something in my mother's closet and it had gotten caught in a bag of blankets and comforters and other extras she kept lying around in the event that she might need them.After roughly a whole days' worth of searching, I had a brainwave and found it. I thought back to the only place where I felt it could have vanished and the reason behind it; the bag was full of stuff and my hand inside, rummaging around with little to no room would hav easily managed to slip the thing off my finger without my noticing it or giving it a second thought. I breathed a sigh of relief that day in the summer of 2018 and foolishly hoped I'd never have to deal with that incident again. I never had the money to size it or I would have had it done then and there; no questions asked.Today, the inevitable happened, and after breaking my head on it, I've realized that there's just too many, many possibilities as to where it might be and the reason why it fell off my finger to begin with. The toilet in the master bathroom has been having issues for awhile now when it comes to refilling itself, requiring that I lift the lid off the tank and push a little button to start the filling process; it could have fallen in there. Ranger, who was supposed to be our guidedog and who is now retired owing to health issues beyond our control, came to visit us today and I took him for a walk, using my left hand to hold the leash. It could have fallen off then. I was playing with my children throughout the day... I picked one of them up, tickled another, gave the cat to another... I helped them get their food and drinks today. It could have fallen off then.I had no particular reason to be more mindful today than at any other day because it has gone on like this for quite some time and no harm has befallen my ring; usually I feel it when it's even close to coming off and I stop whatever I'm doing at the time, slide it back and readjust my thinking on whatever activity or chore it is I'm trying to get done and move along. The only indication came from a friend of ours who came in and commented that she knew it would sound weird for her to say so, but that she had always thought I had nice looking hands and just felt the need to say it. I know she didn't take it; firstly, because she would have no use for it, second, because I would have felt her touch my hands, third, because she wasn't ever close enough to touch them, and finally, because she's the one who brought the dog to begin with, as when we retired him she suggested she could take him to her home and give him a stress free, wonderful life and a big back yard to play in. I'd trust her with my life, and I already trust her with my children; she's an occupational and physical therapist to our youngest as it is. Part of me wants to call her though and ask if she saw the ring on my finger when she made the comment; perhaps that way I can at least have some idea as to when I lost it.But this post? this post really isn't about any of those things. All of those things are just the preface, part of the big picture. It's just as possible that I could find the ring before I fall asleep tonight. It's just as possible that I'm making mountains out of molehills and the ring is lying right under my overly sizable nose. It's just as possible that as I'm walking down the hall to check on something else completely unrelated years down the road, I'll find the ring. What was an absolute surprise, however, was that my wife had the solution, as if it she had been planning it all along. It was unexpected; it was beautiful. It was the most wonderful thing that happened to me since meeting her, since getting married, since having children, since playing tons of games and going through all sorts of crazy crud together and coming out of it on the other side. Tonight, I rediscovered love, and all it took, was her emphatically and decisively making the simple statement, "Lets buy some new rings and get married again!" I know at least one person who worked their way up from volunteering, someone who dropped out of college near the end, and someone else who has a political science major.But they all worked their asses off for years to manage it.If you have the knowledge necessary you don't need the degree. But you have to get the knowledge, and doing so isn't "I program for fun" or anything like that. The guy I know with a political science major has spent the last year living paycheck to paycheck without any real income security or anything like that to pull it off. Regularly works 80 plus hour weeks, too, and currently making less than half what most programmers do.So I mean, sure, do it without college. But they're blind so that's extra hard, and it's hard anyway, and the skills that let you do it without college are the same as doing it with college so if you're going to have a problem with one you're going to have a problem with both. But college is a pretty sure-fire path, whereas the others aren't. Hello!Since I noticed that Zenothrax's signature is in Klingon, I thought I'd start a topic about the Klingon language and where one can study it.For those who have no idea what Klingon even is, it's a constructed language created for the star Trek universe. There are people out there who speak it fluently, and as far as I'm aware new words are still sometimes added. The grammar and some of the sounds can take some getting used to, but it is a phonetic language so things are pretty much said how they're spelled.So, where can one study Klingon, anyway?First up are the official resources which teach the basics of the language.The Klingon Dictionary by Marc Okrand is the first published resource on the Klingon language, and can be found here on Amazon.com.
