It would help to know which languages you already know or have worked with, as we may be able to point you towards resources and API's that may prove useful. My first impulse based on your requirements and experience with server architectures would probably be C++, maybe C#. But any recommendation is going to come with caveats.Python is of course a good language and matches a lot of your recommendations, however multithreading can be tricky with it, and cross platform compatibility can really depend on what libraries you choose, as it would likely require at least a bit of fiddling. As for libraries, there's Pyglet or Panda3D for UI, Syntheziser, and PyAL or my own PyLite for OpenAL 3D audio, and for physics theres Panda3D again, or PyChrono, likely others.TTS support is a bit more dicey, you can use Tolk for any number of languages but its windows only. PyTTSX offers cross platform support, but native screen readers only, Accessible_output2 is also good if you can get it to work.

Didn't get a lot done, too busy reading through the code to find what I needed for most of the day, but I've made progress. One last thing before I go to bed: Consider changing gameboard class to optionally (perhaps by default) raise an exception for negative coordinates. I had a function for fetching neighbors and using get_tile lead to a situation where a multitude of cells in the negative range would get picked up. This wouldn't mess with the wrapping at all (I'm assuming you do something like if x >= len(self.size): x=0, so the number never goes into the negatives).

@2, do you know what is the mentioned octo-core processor this model boasts? Also OP, I've been using a Samsung Tab A for nearly a year now, and its pretty accessible. When I got it, I just had to hold the volume keys, and VA fired straight up. I'd change the app launcher, which I'm planning to do in a few minutes actually. It works fine for average useage, youtube, light gaming, etc. The camera for something like that is pretty decent, although you're not gonna take S21 quality pics on it.

Well, I still have about, 2 hours and a minute when I started writing this, but my birthday is this month. its nothing to be overly excited for, but its a blessing to live another year. This is also one of the coldest months in this country, so I'm happy about that also. I like the cold. In some grimish corona news, the largest Trinidadian festival, Carnival which is usually hosted in this month was cancelled due to the virus. Corona literally cancelled one of the most nationalistic patriotic things about us, but hey, at least we can still go to the beach. Funny enough, this may be the first ash Wednesday when people actually attend school lol. January was quite quiet on this end, the deaths started to go up, but not as bad as Britain or the USA. People are still being alarmed about it, but in alot of cases its just politically charged. Speaking of politically charged, a few days ago, Tobago had their local election, and it resulted in a a draw. The Tobago nationalist/regionalist party, the PDP technically won by like 80 votes, however the Union party, which is the party that lead Trinidad to independence, and the current governing party nationally picked up 6 seats, and as i mentioned, slightly less votes, but since both parties won 6 seats nobody knows who really won the election yet. There isn't anything in the constitution that deals with this sorta thing. Personally, I think the PDP should be given the chief secretaryship, and that's me a unionist, but its alot of bickering between the old idiots. Brainstormed idea. What if you could optionally assign a tag/category to actions when you create them? Alongside being able to set categories to only allow one type of action at a time, you could use categories to potentially organize the actions menu into submenus. (which could be helpful if a level has a lot of actions)

Hmmm, that does sound like the best way to do it, and it would effectively tie Misty to Luke, even if having Luke in the party didn't automatically mean you had her as well the way it would with Shadow and Interceptor. That also gives me an idea on how I could possibly work the dragon Luke eventually gets as a steed.

@36, the forum is not hosted in the U.S. The primary language may be English but it is hosted within the EU and therefore the GDPR applies. Unfortunately, the GDPR is very difficult to enforce on this forum software, especially since the backend code has not been updated to comply with the regulations.

This was disabled a while ago because of abuse.Also the GDPR isn't so simple as anyone on this thread wants to make it out, and the provisions are intended to aim at things like advertising data that Google has so I wouldn't be so confident that it applies to a forum.  Especially not a forum in the U.S.  Maybe technically a U.S. forum isn't supposed to be available from Europe?  I'm not sure how that works.  But I'd be willing to bet there's some sort of exemptions in it for stuff like this.  Again, maybe there isn't.  But it is annoying how this forum just keeps waving the "but freedom of speech" and "but right to be forgotten" and stuff around with no subtlety or understanding of what either is about, or even if either applies.In any case I am betting that what's being asked for here is entirely manual because this software is old and no one has access to the backend, so any discussion around whether it should be done should first start by asking if it could be done.

Okay it's currently after midnight here in the benighted kingdom, which means that one twelth part of 2021 is officially over,  and to be honest if the rest goes this way I dam well hope that it goes quick. Never mind all those "happy new year", and "may it be better than the last", thoughts we were having a month ago, since so far things have been pretty crappy over here, lots more corona, arguments with Europe about exporting vaccines, albeit hopefully America is going to calm down now. unfortunately, we've seen a lot of tragedy. My lady's been rather unwell for the past few weeks, and though (hopefully), a hospital appointment she had completely sorted the problem out, equally this was at a hospital which was a corona hotspot, so she's worried.Combine this with the fact that her father died this week of Corona, and she's not having a great time right now, albeit we're glad her health problems seem to be resolved, assuming we can dodge the virus of course.Just to make things even more cheerful, My cousin, his entire family, and my uncle (the same uncle who fell down stairs early in January and got a really bad injury), now all have corona as well. so pretty dire over here, though we're still doing what we can as far as staying in extreme lockdown goes. Other than that not to much to report. I have been doing some more gaming which is nice, albeit still playing erion, I recently bought and finished fury driver moonwalks, and have got back into slay the spire, hopefully I can also get back to db editing soon. Reading wise, I've been on brandon Sanderson's rhythm of war for the last week or so, which has been good, albeit not quite as compelling as the others, in particular, sanderson's writing style seems a bit rough, directly talking about "mental illness", and using words like "electricuted", or describing someone as a "teen", which are definitely odd in a fantasy setting. Also, though I've loved the way he has dealt with Kaladin's mental illness in the past, the fact that he's talking about it very directly here makes things less, rather than more effective. that being said, we've still had some nice scenes, a lot of interesting world building, and at least some character changes, albeit this is the first stormlight book which I'd not class as really exceptional or compelling. Good yes, worth reading yes, but not quite with that magic quality the first three had. I'm also introducing my lady to buffy the vampire slayer and angel, which is proving fun, it's also nice for me to get the audio described versions, since while I own the standard, none described series on dvd and watched it that way before, it's nice to get the immediate description of what's going on.That's pretty much it to report over here, since as I said, the lockdown very much continues, so not a lot new is happening, heck, even my application for a second guide dog now that Reever has retired is very much on hold, and the less said about those brainless illiterate troglodytes whom web zine publishers employ as editors, the better.Hope everyone else is having a slightly less dismal time.

My bitset can determine the first unset bit without having to iterate all the bits.  As far as I know the built-in one can't, or at least when I originally wrote mine it couldn't.Anything C++20 is off the table because compiler support lags.  In general, you can't use C++ standards for 2-3 years after they're finalized.  At the moment compiler support is iffy, especially in Visual Studio.  Once that's finalized you then have to wait for the old Linux distros to not be relevant anymore so that default versions of gcc and clang come along for the ride.  I only use C++17 for that reason.std::string_view might or might not be useful but I haven't learned it.  I think Synthizer does stuff with strings in something like all of 3 places and only one of them does anything more advanced than pass it into a map or somesuch.  So there's no point.  Also I think a lot of that is newer than C++17, though maybe it's not.  Const references as a general pattern are the C++ way to avoid copying but pretend you have a copy, in the sense that if you decide not to pass it on to a third thing, no copy is actually made.  So e.g. if there's an error it's free.  Things like string and vector probably can't be elided, so it's quite the performance cost to take them by value.

Like I said, I am against that, but if poster 1 did indeed delete the entire discussion nobody could really do anything about it.  Like now, I could go and delete one of my topics and all that would happen would be either a new topic would be created for people to complain on how topics and entire discussion  should not be removed, or the discussion  of topic removal would continue on some other unfortunate topic. That topic would lose what it was originally about and turn in to something else like many others on here.

And without going beyond this $1000, I need to build a configuration of such a PC so that it can pull the minimum settings of modern games such as Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Watch Dogs Legion, Cyberpunk 2077, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Battlefield V, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (Not the maximum, minimum settings, but at the same time, so that I have enough of this for several years, so that I don't need to upgrade my PC upon the release of GTA 6).That is why I'm writing here. There are guys here who understand computer hardware. @5 I heartily agree, indeed such questions accomplish nothing in the end. Smart are those guys at stackoverflow, they can just cloze a question if they can motivate that it's too subjective/opinion based or whatever.Anyway, to throw my two meaningless stones in the storm, I would recommand c# paired with monogame. I recommend this not only because of my relatively plesent experience with it, but also because it fits all your criterias, plus the optional ones.Note: Monogame doesn't include a physics engine by itself, so if you need that, you can just use box2d with its bindings for c#, or bullet sharp, another c# binding for the bullet physics library that is written in c++ I think.

I might've asked some of these questions before, sorry if I have. But I've noticed a couple things:1. You implement a custom bitset class. What's the rationale for this when C++ already has a bitset class in ?2. You use const std::string references. How is this better than std::string_view?3. In your bitset class you use the __builtin_popcount (as well as __builtin_ctz). C++20 adds the  header which adds various bit manipulation functions, see this. I think that it might be better to switch to these functions since they aren't architecture specific whereas the __builtin_* functions are, if I'm not mistaken, architecture specific.These are primarily curiosities of mine; it just seems like your reinventing the wheel in these cases and I'm curious why.

So as promised, I'm working on a prototype of a game with this. It's, yup, surprise, another board game! I'm hoping to include this as a sort of a larger example of subclassing in the repo, or at least hoping for the addition of a link to my Github repository, sort of "Here's how you'd do this" type of thing. So far, we don't have sounds yet, but at least it runs! I promise I'll try something that is not a board game... at some point. I'm quite a fan of this genre myself.This does bring me to an interesting dilemma, however. I see that the board has an attribute called "populated_points" or something of that nature which stores all the point objects generated by the board. My question is... why? The class seems to do it for the sake of doing so, making updating both the point and the tile a semi-painful task, one which I for now choose to ignore because like I said, the class never uses the point objects.Re, double call to populate. Am I correct in the understanding that you do this because your objects are left over after the game finishes?

Any iDeas with A Hero's Call?

Hi. When AHC came out, I picked it up immediately and enjoyed it immensely. However, since then, I've gone through several computers and forgot my password. Does anyone know of a way to contact the folks at AHC to see if I can reset my password? I emailed them the other day, as well as a few months back, but have heard nothing. Their webpage doesn't look like it's been updated at all as well. Does anyone know if they're working on anything else?

I am not a PC building expert by any means, I haven't even built a PC once in my life, except the thing I made with a raspbery pi. Anyway, now that we're at it, what would a watter based cooling system achieve compared to a normal, air based one? It would help to know which languages you already know or have worked with, as we may be able to point you towards resources and API's that may prove useful. My first impulse based on your requirements and experience with server architectures would probably be C++, maybe C#. But any recommendation is going to come with caveats.Python is of course a good language and matches a lot of your recommendations, however multithreading can be tricky with it, and cross platform compatibility can really depend on what libraries you choose, as it would likely require at least a bit of fiddling. As for libraries, there's Pyglet or Panda3D for UI, and PyAL or my own PyLite for OpenAL 3D audio, and for physics theres Panda3D again, or PyChrono, likely others.TTS support is a bit more dicey, you can use Tolk for any number of languages but its windows only. PyTTSX offers cross platform support, but native screen readers only, Accessible_output2 is also good if you can get it to work.

@12 you are going to need a system that can handle a network OS called pfSense that is used to make a router. be aware you are going to need at least more than one network port on the computer to allow for you to connect more than one networking gear to the system.

Well, power wize, a 500 watt or 600 should be fine for most things.Anything over 600 will start to cost you a bogload.But your 450kw supply just won't cut it.In my workstations I have fans and even my friend who has a grunty beast of a server runs fans.Its only noisy when at full power.The component manufacturers you have seem rock solid.However, as a starter, I wouldn't go for a buy the indevidual things and slap them in.Even with the right static protection even if you can see to wire, it may be better to get a few different things.1.  buy a case.2.  buy a storage kit, a memmory kit, and a board and power kit.Storage kits usually contain an ssd and hdd or twin ssds or something.Power and mainboard kits contain ram, boards, and such.This will pritty much make things work for you and you know they will work.If you really don't want to do that, the next thing is an upgrade box.Think of this as a template with basic components in.You can update a storage drive, the power supply, extra video cards, etc.But its basically there and you shouldn't need to do much.Finally there is a shop assembled system.This is not a branded system but a shop assembled system, pbtech my store I use have systems they put together themselves, you can buy and assemble bits or buy the full kit and have it all handled.Next depending on your budget you can buy a customised system you custom build yourself online.If you are going to fit your own components though, I'd get a mutherboard kit, this will have a board, some ram and it may even have an entry leverl power supply.You can buy entry level through to gaming grade kits.These will have board, cpu and memmory with them.You need a power supply, and then a storage kit.After that extras, video cards, soundcards, wireless cards, usb c card if you want, etc.Buying from a supplier especially if you are building you can probably get deals and promos.If you really want to do this yourself, I'd probably get a board that can support both intel and amd cpus.Get the maximum fans you can and see.Video cards which are more then 1 or 2gb will cost a bundle.Nvidia stuff has issues and while amd stuff does work, and the drivers are good, there are some software issues with some thhings, intel can be a bit more expensive and there are multiple software packages to install and that can or can not be a problem.However intel has their drivers updated every 1 to 2 months and amd updates every month with beta and normal drivers.Virtualisation, hmmm it depends.If you are unsure, I'd go for something like an hp pro desk, then chop and change or at least a case with a panel you can just lift off similarly to when you open a car and then you can mod all you want.
