@aaron77 I can't seem to use the inspect command, and nothing shows up when I type "help inspect".I'd love a way of being able to see where paths diverge since that's really where the choice points need to be made.It also seems that the game does show your discard and draw pile, but text the spire doesn't present this info. This will be really nice to have for better strategy.

Could anyone explain what comprises a valid movement choice? For example, my mental model is that locations are a pair of coordinates - the first is the floor and the second the location on that floor.I was always under the impression that in addition to going up, you could also go to the left and right of your current position so for e.g, (1, 0) to (2, 1) but that doesn't seem to be possible. Are the only valid movement choices from (1, 0) (2, 0)?

The best that I've found so far is the command line version of Master of Orion. Almost all aspects of it are accessible, except combat which you can leave to the AI to automatically resolve.I also used to be pretty addicted to Ogame and its variants / clones, but its unfortunately the type of game which requires you to wait for rl time before something happens and for you to plan your life around the game so I stopped.I'm always hoping for mainstream 4x games to be accessible, especially after playing Moo and getting to experience what a proper one is like.

Hi,Does anyone know of such a game? I've tried many games like Atorian, Ogame and the like, but they either reset or noone's around. Astro Empires looked promising, but paying accounts have a tremendous advantage over free accounts.Customizable ships, deep research trees or something that differentiates it from other games of the genre would be a plus.

I would agree this is bullying if he was warring against some helpless newbie, but Knashteran is the second most powerful empire. Since this game is called Empire Mud, it would be foolish not to expect war and territorial disputes. I wouldn't want to play if admins actively interfered in legitimate and fairly routine disagreements like this.

It depends whether you want a better experience levelling up, or  at the endgame.If the former, then necro is a great choice as first class; their minions make the newbie experience pretty easy, which is now complemented by the fact that powerful low level equipment has never been more easy to obtain. Some good secondary classes include mage (for offensive power while being able to use shadow fiends as tanks) or cleric (for healing in groups and for general utility). This is the setup for my character.I'd recommend not choosing druid if your primary motivation is to get strong minions; their niche is equipment enhancement through runes (which you can get done for you by other druids) and working well in concert through their area of effect spells in groups.Unfortunately, casters aren't viable at high levels (solo-wise anyway) because a lot of higher level areas got relevelled, so mobs are stronger. I think that an open-source implementation (or at least tutorials) on how to create a game engine would be useful. There are many definitions of what a game engine is, mine is a codebase that could be reused across any game thats developed. It should be implemented in a mainstream language, handles common tasks such as 3d sound positioning, vector math, networking, resource loading directly from disk or from some custom pack format, physics, networking etc.

To add to Ians point, the Alure library does greatly simplify working with openal-soft. It can handle doing the stream on a different thread for you, and has other useful functions as well such as built-in support for .ogg files, and loading sounds/streams from memory.

You mentioned openal-soft, why not use it? Its far from being easy to use, but it does work well once I figured out how to use it. I havent messed around with reverb and environmental effects.You may also want to look at the Alure library, which greatly simplifies use of openal-soft. Support for encrypted sound files is something ive been trying to get working.

It seems to be working almost flawlessly for me. The only issue I found is that when you switch from another speech mode to NVDA while the game is running, it doesnt autodetect NVDAs presence to autoswitch to it. When you start entombed with NVDA, it detects it properly though. Thats quite a minor issue overall though, maybe you could file a bug report on the tolk projects page if its a tolk bug?Theres also an annoying amount of lag when using the arrow keys with jaws. Is there any way to circumvent that, or is the only way to do it to use alternative arrow keys?Keep up the good work so far!

Hi Jason,Its great to hear that a sequel to Entombed is in the works.You mentioned that youd only use sapi on windows. Have you considered using the tolk library? Its at https://github.com/dkager/tolkIts a new GPL licensed library for screen reader and sapi5 output that should do the heavy lifting for you, and it looks easy to use (though i havent tried it yet).

Unless the mud has features such as gmcp or msdp that facilitates this, I wouldnt bother unless it is easy to instruct a computer of how to differentiate things like different mobs and equipment on that mud.

Eqsets are a server-side tool which helps you manage your sets. They are really overpriced though, and their notable advantages are that you can switch sets using eqsets while hidden (which is pretty unfair in my opinion) and that they search in containers within containers. For instance, you could put your hit set in container1, which is inside container2. Its slower though.Eqlist is a mush-z implementation of this functionality which is free, and should suit the needs of most users.

That unit dying and getting attacked thing got fixed I think in version 2. Upgrading to version 10 of the parser is better because thats what new flags will be based off in the future (like script flags those are v10 only) I think, and it also makes it easier to read in some cases.

Im pretty sure that this is a proliphic spammer. If you did something that caused you to be silenced for more than several minutes, you probably deserved it. There is also anti-spam code that detects spammers creating multiple new chars to work around channel bans which can also automatically silence you I think.

The game will involve ship combat in the solar system, and Id like it to be as accurate a depiction of space combat as possible. My original plan was to have each square of a grid represent a 500,000 km region of space - so if you moved over a square in map view, it would inform you of any important landmarks e.g friendly vessels, enemy vessels, and solar system features like planets, stars, and perhaps asteroids or planetary rings (something like sound rtss map view). This would be the main way that the player could examine the situation. They could then order their forces, or parts of their forces in a sector for instance.My plan was for a 20x20 grid, simulating a region of space 10,000,000 by 10,000,000 km across. However, this solution doesnt scale well if i would want to simulate very vast distances i.e 100m km of space. Does anyone have sugges
 tions for how I can design the UI so that players can make sense of what is happening on a very large map? Id appreciate all suggestions, as i have no experience of how mainstream games do this in their space strategy games.

So this would be something like a coordinate system, but instead of sectors that evenly divide the map, sectors are only used for things of interest, like ships/planets? It would be kind of odd, if sector B3 contained earth, then moving to sector B4, which could be 3,000,000 km north of earth. What about when you move right from sector C4 to D4 - and there was nothing intering in that area? Sector numbering would then be misleading and potentially confusing. I think that this might be the right track to go, we just need to refine it.

That would work well if you control a single ship or several ships, but in the game, you control a fleet of ships. If enemies or objects are within the sensor range of any of your allied forces, this knowledge is usable by all of your force.

The HPA command is helpful for monitoring group member health; so is the lowmv and lowhp commands. For the servers spam filters (not the mush-z specific ones), I would recommend enabling the following: gfighting, getput, wear, and setting minion spam to something like seeing only your minions/tank minions only. Im not a miriani player, so Im not sure about whether there is a soundpack in mushclient for miriani. VIP Mud has generous usage limitations in free mode, I believe its continual use for 2 hours before you have to restart the client. Autobrew still requires that you have the requisite potion skills. Think of it as something like an eqlist or eqset for potions. What is the error message that you get when trying to brew it?
