Re: A Hero's Call: an Accessible Fantasy RPG from Out of Sight Games

I actually have an extra wolf pelt in my inventory but can't seem to sell it anywhere. As for me I'm still trying to locate the last bandit camp(s) in Laying Down the Law. I've been wandering around in the forest for the past couple days looking for it. I also had a question about characters. Gwen and Alexia both have the option of increasing stats if you converse with them and give them encouragement, but it seems that Matthias and Simeon don't, even though you do get the opportunity to ask Simeon about his father at one point, which would seem to have the possibility to encourage him or whatever. Even Matthias has what would seem like a chance for a stat increase if you bring him along during the final part of the Family Legacy quest. But again, nothing really happens. So do these two not have that chance?

Level sixty? Overkill much? LOL. I definitely don't want to spend that kind of time grinding and anyway the only other quests I have yet to complete are Laying Down the Law and Changing of the Guard. At least from what I've observed the fires in the bandit camp sites you've already cleared seem to go out afterward. I do wish the quest log could tell you how many you've cleared though.

I'm not even going to attempt the final boss again until all my party is at least level 20. I will say I wish you could have all five allies in your party at once the way other games let you do. Heck, it would be cool if they could all band together even just for the last battle. As for me I'm stuck looking for bandit camp sites, although at least you get the sound of fire to clue you in to where they are, well except for the one by the abandoned lumber mill for some reason. So I'm missing two or perhaps just one if the lumber mill camp site counts.

Re: A Hero's Call: an Accessible Fantasy RPG from Out of Sight Games

SpoilerOk, I could use some help on a couple quests. First is the Finding the FOunders quest. I've found all but one of the tombstones, but for the life of me I can't seem to find the last one. Unfortunately because there's no way to checkt he list of founders to see which ones you've already marked I can't list them here. I'm also stuck on the Balancing Act quest. I've cleared the Water and Sap reservoirs but now it's asking for sap and water veins. Again, for the life of me I can't seem to find them. I explored the third ring but there doesn't seem to be anything there.

The question Jayde is asking has more to do with being at such low levels so near the end of the main story. I agree that does seem a little unusual, especially if it's possible to actually beat the final boss with such low levels.

You can beat the Hydras without Simeon, you just won't get his dialogue about the trap door being north of the lake. You have to undertake the Stolen from the Rich quest. Either approach the mines and get accosted by a guard or speak with Nigel. Then speak with the guard captain and he'll mark the camp site on your map. Then you can just follow a beacon directly there.

I actually have to agree with Ironcross about the doors. The absence of creaking or thumping doors in this game was quite refreshing. I also have to agree about the characters. I'm not sure who's my favorite, although I gotta say Alexia sounds rather cute LOL. But I actually think they did the right thing recasting Simeon. I liked Chad Fisher's interpretation but I think the new guy seems if possible even more appropriate to what I was imagining Simeon to be like from the game description.

Re: A Hero's Call: an Accessible Fantasy RPG from Out of Sight Games

One thing I really like is that you find people your allies know, but you might not realize that if you encounter them alone or with a different companion. I do wish, slight spoiler warning here, that Annabel would have just given you the enchanted bridle when you first agreed to go out and look for the horse. That would have been a lot easier than having to track down a moving target twice. My only question is how the horse managed to get into that area in the first place since I'm gathering it couldn't go collect the three flowers LOL. As for the update I'm extremely wary of running it just now.

Yeah, the manual did seem a bit messy. As for the positional audio in combat it's cool but that wasn't what grabbed my attention about the game. But now I'm still looking for both the missing horse and rider and the missing work horse. I did like Alexia's pilgrimage quest though. It was certainly an interesting little story arc.

Yeah, that can be confusing. Jayde I've said the same thing about the error reports several times. As for bosses or boss type critters I've found one, well two if you count the end of the talisman quest. The one critter I definitely would count as a boss has soundly thrashed me twice already LOL. My primary character is a Necromancer since overall I tend to prefer magic users and you already get a Mage in the form of Gwen. I also agree about the navigation system. It definitely takes getting used to but overall I like it. The fast travel option definitely helps a lot. I'm just trying to figure out exactly what triggers it becoming available.

Yeah, I also turned off HRT or whatever it was simply because I don't have a set of headphones or speakers that can take advantage of it. But on a quest-related note I actually turned out, without giving away too much, to be at least partly right about that talisman quest. It actually made me feel quite a bit better about the whole thing. As for my own LP/stream I'm not sure when I'll do it, maybe if and when I can buy some better recording equipment than my phone. Re: Release Date Announcement for A Hero's Call

Well, to be fair we didn't see what happened after the battle with the shade, so it's entirely possible that we did still end up helping it. Maybe we only weakened it to a point and then it regained its senses or whatever. I've had the same thought as you since I would certainly choose to help a restless spirit rather than thwart it if the choice were mine. Or maybe the spirit we fought wasn't actually the one connected with the amulet but a malevolent spirit that didn't want to see the suffering one move on. There may be more to that quest than we've yet seen.

Well as I said, we'll have it with the game. And yes, Joseph did say the game would be released later in the day since he wants the entire team to be able to be present for it. If that means it's actually the 30th for some people then that's what it'll be. That said I imagine they'll be able to hear my whoop of excitement back in Oregon where I used to live when the game finally does drop. LOL.

Re: Release Date Announcement for A Hero's Call

The Windows 10 voices are David and Zira. They're not too bad and certainly better than Microsoft Anna. I haven't decided exactly which one of those I'll use, but I've never been able to get the Eloquence add-on for NVDA to work properly so I can't use that. Eloquence might not be the best voice but its response time is the fastest I've seen in just about any voice. But I've definitely got my twenty bucks set aside and will buy it as soon as I possibly can.

Re: Release Date Announcement for A Hero's Call

But at least then it'll only be a matter of waiting a few hours rather than months or weeks. As for bugs I'm sure there will be some. Even games made by big name companies have bugs in them. Heck, Final Fantasy VI, one of my favorite RPG's of all time, had some pretty crazy bugs in it. I'm sure you've done the best with what time you've had left and will continue to do so. The hard part for me is going to be not checking the forum constantly once Friday rolls around, just looking for the announcement LOL. This has been a team effort so I totally understand wanting all the team to be present for the big moment. I for one have a grocery run planned for the morning, so I may have to splurge a little on some snacks to enjoy while I take my initial steps into Farhaven.

Re: Release Date Announcement for A Hero's Call

Oh my. You want to talk about pins and needles I'm right here LOL. I'm even excited just to read the manual. But then I've said that before. Incidentally I either didn't know or forgot that Ian and Joseph used to have sight. But that might explain the years of effort they've made to bring us a gaming experience as close as reasonably possible to what mainstream gamers have been getting since the beginning or at least as close as their resources allow. As I may have said I've already done a review of the soundtrack album, although it's just a live audio post on my Facebook since I'm not sure YouTube would have let me do an upload longer than fifteen minutes, and you need more than that to really discuss everything. I think Sharon AKA JennyK's review was half an hour at least.

Re: Release Date Announcement for A Hero's Call

You'll get your digital copy on the same day but if you pledged enough to earn a physical copy and/or the cover art you'll have to wait on that since if I recall correctly they wanted to wait to release those until the same time as the graphical update becomes available. I almost wish I could have pledged enough simply because it'd be cool to see what the cover art looked like. I've always rather enjoyed tactile art. I'm curious what it's supposed to feature in any case.

Re: Release Date Announcement for A Hero's Call

Oh so do I. I've got money set aside for it so I can buy it right when it comes out. It's both a belated Christmas present to myself and a reward for paying off a longstanding debt LOL. Hope you can get the payment situation figured out. I do remember you mentioning that a lot of dialogue was basically placeholder stuff. Still, a lot of it does fit the game's atmosphere. I knew it was likely preorders might not be offered. Personally I agree with that since too many developers have offered preorders and then failed to deliver. Not that I believe this would be the case here but I've made it a point to be cautious about preordering in our market.

Re: Release Date Announcement for A Hero's Call

Yup, that's a really pretty track. Gwen's theme is either a close second or a tie for me. As I may have said earlier in this thread and in others, this has inspired me to try to rework the series of novels I've been working on writing on and off for the last four years into an RPG. I've even imagined my characters' dialogue set to themes from the AHC soundtrack, though of course if I were to actually undertake this project I would need music of my own, hopefully of the same excellent quality. But I have a feeling I'm going to have to really rein myself in when AHC comes out, just so I don't gobble the whole thing up in a day LOL.

Re: Release Date Announcement for A Hero's Call

Oh me too, although this state of affairs is more or less permanent for me. On a slightly off-topic note, I don't know if anyone's noticed the difference in Samuel the innkeeper's voice between the radar demo that Joseph did and the talisman quest demo? It's just something I noticed last night and again today while I was revisiting those videos on YouTube. But in the talisman demo he has a Scottish accent while in the radar demo he doesn't. Then again even in cartoons it's not uncommon for a voice actor to try several different voices for a single character to find out what voice works best for their vocal abilities. Again this is just something I noticed. I also didn't realize until yesterday that Samuel and Father Ignatius were voiced by the same guy. Of course that's not a problem since quite obviously he's a talented actor.

Re: Release Date Announcement for A Hero's Call

I'd say not given how close we are to release. I definitely know what you mean about the soundtrack. I listen to it at least once a day and more often than not Farhaven is my track of choice while having my morning coffee LOL. I also agree about the documentation, but as has been said before it really wouldn't make a lot of sense to release the manual before the game, although as I recall Liam did that with Judgment Day. Then again if my memory serves me he also waited to do that until a day or so before release.
