The game is really not stable at all, its just that the "stable" version is *more stable*. I built it when i was really inexperienced with code. I haven't found the source code but I will upload it to my site if I can find it. @Stasp - I'll try to find the source code and slap it on my website but its from an old version of game maker so I can't make any guarantees. Yeah I know it sucks but I think I might have something in my old dropbox folder in one of my backup folders or something.BTW I would recommend anyone who wants to ask me directly questions about braillemon to just DM me on Twitter (https://twitter.com/realGuattari) someone hit me up there and it made me realize its a way better way to get in contact with me. I do NOT update the game anymore and I dont even know where the source code is as I write this but I'll make a genuine effort to look for it at least for archival's sake. MSVCP100.dll is a debugging library because the TTS engine that braillemon uses needs it because it was compiled as debug and I didn't know how to fix it. LOL. but yeah.I don't have the source code for that so I couldn't fix it, but maybe see if you can find a version of the DLL that works (and maybe the others). I'm pretty sure I Was still able to play braillemon so it might be a setting issue.Also, there is no problem in reviving an old game thread to try to address some issue in the game. I have discontinued development though since 2016 and I'm aware that its not a very good game, it was my first game ever. But hey, its a free pokemon game if you can get it working lol.I'm going to be uploading these onto a blog I'm building out so there is a permanent link instead of relying on my ancient dropbox account. I'm going to try to get the EXE's working in windows 10 and if that works I'll upload em.

Hey there sandslash, Right now I'm only really using monogame/XNA's libraries and I'm developing in linux cuz I dont have much in the ways of a computer right now. Right now I have the following done with the audio engine:Music playerSound effectsSound EmittersProximity DetectorAnd I'm currently working on the pathfinder tool. Also the game has a TTS class but I haven't tested it cuz mono in linux doesn't support TTSI want to use NAudio for the proximity detector to see if I can do something that gives me more control over panning. It works for now in the XNA-only build but it would be better if I had more control over the sound itself, and also it could allow me to do other dynamic processing of the sound stream. But that's kind of way head of the game, I still need a system with Windows to even start building that out, so I'm just focusing on the core elements.In response to your edit, I just chose a low pitched sound for now so I can just change the wav sample that it uses to use a higher pitched one.

This week I'm going to build out the pathfinding system. Idk who played the last build but the pathfinder basically would make a sound path from your current position to a destination and you can follow the sound to where you want to go. It even takes into consideration collisions. And yep this game is now on a private bit bucket repo so it's not going anywhere. Once I finish the engine I will start porting it for the module I promised + get a public repo for it

The game itself will be closed source, but I think that making the accessibility engine open source is a necessary move in the right direction for accessibility. Sure, I can put up a donation link but I don't really think it's necessary to donate. The reason why I'm doing this is because I'm sick and tired of this attitude towards accessibility that things should be proprietary. Think about how much that holds accessibility back, think about how much things like NVDA changed everything. Knowing that the old implementation of my accessibility engine seemed to be a solid start for what I'm trying to do, I figured that releasing it in this way isn't just the best way to make it a better end product, especially with blind developers adding their input, but also makes it much easier for other developers to implement some level of accessibility into their sighted games.And honestly I'm really just tired of the fake B S that was floating around a few years back. I had a thing that worked with my last build and I wanna make that thing work. I'm just so frustrated with my luck and my negligence. At least I'm finally moving away from Game Maker.

Hey there everyone.So I wanted to give an update I was working on the next release which had a lot more content, and then my hard drive was destroyed. No backups. This happened in January. To put in perspective how absolutely mind numbingly frustrating this is, the game was literally a week from releasing the new version. I was just cleaning out some bugs in the compiled release.I decided to start working on the game again in Monogame instead of using Game Maker. This allows for a couple of upgrades:- Support for NVDA/JAWS (still need to test it to make sure it doesn't conflict with input, when I get a release I'll let you guys know)- Optimized game engine- More precisely built accessibility system.Irrelevant to blind players, but also, it is also being ported to Linux but IDK how to hook it up with a screen reader. There is no Mono support for speech yet.What I think is most important though for everyone here is the accessibility system. I've decided that the best way to get my system out there is to make it Open Source and free to use. That's right, I'm going to make a fork of the game project that offers an accessibility engine that only uses the XNA libraries to work. I believe that after 6 years of fumbling around like an idiot and figuring my way around making a better and better accessibility engine, it's necessary for me to release it both open source and license free.I want to make an impact across the entire gaming industry and set an example with this project, and having it be open source means that anyone here can also contribute towards the codebase and make their own forks.My goal since 2013 was to make games more accessible across the board and even though I've had to deal with so much B S in my life to get here I'm proud that I am still working on this project. I really am dedicated to this game despite the number of complete disasters I've dealt with during its production and I feel that this build will be the one that brings it to production; and also be the build that produces a powerful engine that ANYONE, blind or sighted, can add to their projects.I've just started building out the basic outline of the engine, working on the proximity detector right now. Hello guys, I'm expecting an early pre alpha release on the 23rd. I'd really appreciate it if I can get feedback with the new accessibility engine. The engine is very well built so any issues can be dealt with easily and quickly and I want to make sure this component of the engine is working well. I will not have any tutorials in the game due to it being pre-alpha, so please feel free to ask questions about any sort of concerns with what to do or what something means. Hey there everyone, thought I would provide an update.Life is really tough right now because of a lot of personal BS I'd rather not get into right now but I can't work and I have no income which really blows, but I am being taken care of right now by good friends who are helping me get back on my feet. The good news is that things are definitely getting better, AND that I've started to rebuild the new Colors Chromatics engine. It's much more well organized and modular meaning that I can kick out updates much faster, and it will be much easier to debug as well. I'm not super far into development since I only started a few days ago but I've already created menus with TTS already and I'll be adding a few new features as well.It also now supports keybinding (although I probably won't build a menu for keybinding blind accessibility shortcuts since there are so many of them, but I'll probably still have them loaded from a file for customization).Aarush, your issue sounds directX related so make sure you have directX9 installed correctly, this is because it was made in an older version of game maker. I can't do any modifications to the code, it's so messed up that it's basically pure spaghetti.

I'm not super far into development since I only started a few days ago but I've already created menus with TTS already and I'll be adding a few new features as well.It also now supports keybinding (although I probably won't build a menu for keybinding blind accessibility shortcuts since there are so many of them, but I'll probably still have them loaded from a file for customization).Aarush, your issue sounds directX related so make sure you have directX9 installed correctly, this is because it was made in an older version of game maker. I can't do any modifications to the code, it's so messed up that it's basically pure spaghetti.

So an update:Bad news: I have to redo the engine; the engine is pretty much a mess. Also I have no job. I had to quit since I have chronic illness that has yet to be diagnosed. It is the source of most of the problems I had in the last few years, and it's obvious that working in an office makes it much worse. I was having 2 migraines a day. I needed to quit.Good news: I'm safe and I have a lot of time on my hands. I'll probably not start with the engine rewrite until December, but I want to start work on an accessibility extention that I can sell to other indies so they can start implementing easier accessibility into their games as well. I have absolutely every intention on continuing this game but it's very hard now that I am sick and unable to work outside of remote work. I'll probably be doing small work here and there but not much. Thankfully with a fully functioning prototype I can't imagine it taking too long to rebuild but I'm also in the process of rebuilding my life so meh.Honestly these last 4-5 years have been a long line of FOR FUCK'S SAKE over and over again. I think I'm just tired now.

There are 5 different tutorials in this order:- Introduction- How to use menus- Basic navigation- Wall navigation- Maze navigationThere is a 6th map but I haven't tested to see if it's actually reached; the other maps have been tested outside of the maze map's completion. In the last version I uploaded yesterday everything was working. After the tutorial is complete it will go straight to game mode.

I'll be putting the tutorial in the inventory for access from the menu (an item triggers this tutorial as well)3. I will add an explanation to the ding sound, it indicates an opening in the walls.4. Text speed in the menu is visual only but I'm pretty sure the reading speed can be changed with N/M (I should indicate this)5. The game autosaves now so there's no need for a save section.6. JAWS is incompatible with Game Maker's engine; so if I am able to find funding and rewrite the code this shouldn't be an issue.

You have to start a new game if it crashes on load (you should be able to do this fine though by selecting new game on the load screen with left/right), but if not you should be fine. the coordinate bug was caused by an improper character replacement; I use special character modifiers for certain visual effects and the parsing was wrong so it made numbers 0-6 not appear.

I'll take a look at that, in my experience I've never had an issue, but it might be because whatever is causing that bug suddenly caused the system to get "decoupled" so to speak. need to weed out these issues this week. I don't have the game available on me at the moment, but to check global aura stats I believe it's the keyboard row ASDF but I'll check; I may have missed the actual description of the aura effect.To equip the mittens, there are two ways - either go into your party menu, go into your items and select the mittens from your bag. then it will move to the selected player. Or, you can open the item menu, use "give" and give it to the appropriate character.

config.ini is the file you're looking for, SLJJLove - make sure you have set the config file as stated. You should actually hear "Colors Press Any Key to Continue" (similar to braillemon) so I'm guessing you haven't triggered accessibility mode properly. Also I've heard that it can conflict with JAWS so make sure this is not happening.Set access=0 to access=1 in the file.@toto - sadly that error doesn't tell me anything, it feels almost like as if the bottom part was cut off. Can you tell me what you did to replicate it?

In order to set up accessible mode, go to config.ini and change access=0 to access=1 and it should be accessible. you can also turn on graphics if you want by setting access_force_graphics=1I plan on getting an application later for the settings but I keep pushing it to the side to try to put new content into the game.By the way, Mojsior, I've fixed the issue, somehow focus text wasn't reading on menus when you went left. lol. It will be in the next release though since I've been adding a ton of new code. You can place items on the overworld now and decorate areas.

I found what you were talking about with the error to do with the party. Actually has to do with new UI elements I put in, only would work if the party has 3 characters in it. I like the idea of having the name of the bookmark being read when you pass near it. The names aren't saved yet by the way, but I should have that done by next release which will be in July.Also, I'll have to look into the problems with the tutorial. They need to be completely redone due to the upgrades.Regarding stats; I will have to build a tutorial for those then. I might add a 'shift-character" function that if you're pressing shift will read off what that stat does.The crash was due to iirc something that was referenced when it shouldn't be. Red's color is actually FF 00 00 so having it say FF first is accurate.

well that was weird. Well, time to resume the stuff I'm doing for the visual mode.What is your opinion on the new bookmarks system, any suggestions?Also, is the current format where stats are given to you (giving you all the numbers) too much? I noticed when testing with sighted demographics this was too excessive, so I built a casual mode, but since the casual mode uses graphs to show information that's usually represented by numbers, it might be a bit tricky to convert into blind mode. So anyone with any input would be really appreciated.

username/appdata/local/colors/savegame.ini   is what you're looking for.Based on what you're describing, it's almost as if the object isn't being created. Perhaps it's being created on another part of the map as well. I will be adding some stuff but Game Maker's most recent update screwed up my graphics a bit so I have to check what's going on with that as well.

This is an early release intended to demo the new audio engine. I need to do a lot more work in other parts of the game but I wanted feedback. The controls are slightly different. To drop down a bookmark, press shift. Press shift near a bookmark and the bookmark menu opens. You can either rename the bookmark or delete it. The rename screen is super basic right now. You can open the bookmark list with E. Both the exit locator and bookmark list allow you to create an audio path from your current position to the desired position. Press z to create one and c to destroy all paths. The path is a sound that will move in the direction towards the destination. If you go too far away from it it will be quiet.The next full release will update the tutorial accordingly, just takes a lot of time to put that stuff together https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BygzF … U03RkliTkUYou can't turn off the sounds just yet but the other functions are pretty much working so give them a try.

This is mainly because in my last game Braillemon it adjusted the coordinates by dividing them by 16. Since it was on a grid this was appropriate - colors is free roaming essentially and the grid is 1x1 instead of 16x16. Also the game runs at 60 FPS so in 1 second you will move movement rate times 60, and I know the movement rate is more than just 1 pixel.I added the feature since I came up with an idea yesterday regarding paths and figured it would be much easier to use. It works pretty easily actually. Working on some collision bugs that I think is interfering with the wall sound.One tip - You can hear when you can interact with something since it does change the pitch of the footstep sound noticably, however I will be adding more audio locators down the line. Just not a huge priority at the moment. Also, a lot of items are also not noticable in sighted mode so those will stay the same.

What they do is they essentially find the path from your current location to the selected exit in the locator menu, and makes a sound effect that travels in that direction to encourage you to follow in it. It uses a special pathfinding technique to avoid collisions.Also, guys, if you're encountering bugs, it would really help if you could give me information about it. This is only my second audio game, but I'm working hard for a commercial release. This game uses the audio engine for sighted gameplay so it's imperative that I'm able to get it more up to speed.I've had to focus on other parts of development and I would appreciate guides or tips. Aaron Baker has generously provided me a lot of advice on how to improve my game and I think additional input would make this work much better. I can't improve if I don't know the issues. Thanks.

So what I have built out is a basic corner detector. Basically what it does is that if a collision suddenly changes as you're walking (such as you traversing along a wall and reaching an opening) it will play a sound. It's kind of buggy right now but this is mainly because the wall detecting sound is a little off anyways.I'm thinking about implementing paths that move audio listeners in a certain direction depending on what entrance you entered the map, but I'm still designing it. What do you think? It would sound like a wind sound that moves in a specific direction.

I have no idea then, I'm sorry. It has worked on every other computer. Do you have access to another computer?Also, the error with the bookmarks has to do with the fact that it will shut off if it detects a collision in between the player and the collision. However it's not calibrated properly so there are instances where if you place a bookmark close enough to a collision, there will be a point where you can't hear the bookmark anymore despite not having a collision in the way.I'll also be adding a toggle to turn off the access sounds so that you can hear the other sound effects and music better too.

Haramir - This game won't run on windows XP. If you're running windows XP, upgrade, seriously, you shouldn't be running it and its a security nightmare. That would be my guess tbhStewie - I've been looking into the problem with the sound, I noticed it just yesterday. GMS doesn't allow sound panning for some unholy reason so I used panned sfx, but I think it doesn't work for some reason. Very frustrated over this development.  When it pans properly it's much more usable. I'm working on a hack workaround right now.So like a little jingle or sound that occurs when you come across an opening?Edit: I made an update to the system, should be updating the link soon. While I'm not working on Braillemon anymore, I do find it amusing how poorly coded this mess of a game is. I wrote the game's inventory as an array. It's pretty dumb. And it rolls the array up whenever you delete an item, and a few other reasons. So I'm pretty sure it's probably happening somewhere like that.Thankfully my current game is much better programmed. I might go back to rebuilding this sometime if I'm not as busy but as it stands I'm basically dedicating 60 hours to work or this, so I'm not so sure about now  maybe someone should take the reins? I could help out with some certain things.

By turnoff do you mean a section that you can turn and find a new place to go? Usually if you are able to hear the wall sounds a turn off is indicated by hearing no sound after hearing a persistent wall sound. Of course it sounds like you're having trouble with the wall sounds in the first place.In order to navigate, you basically traverse walls, and place bookmarks in open areas. It might be a bit buggy though so please report any unusual behaviour associated with it.That's weird since I've never had any problems with the left or right tone playing. You have to be very close to a wall in order to hear it though. Diagonal collisions are represented by using both an up/down and left/right sound at the same time.Do note that the wall sound does not rotate along with your character, its based on your position, not your orientation. This is intended to allow for a grid-like based navigation.I appreciate the feedback, since it's basically

By turnoff do you mean a section that you can turn and find a new place to go? Usually if you are able to hear the wall sounds a turn off is indicated by hearing no sound after hearing a persistent wall sound. Of course it sounds like you're having trouble with the wall sounds in the first place.That's weird since I've never had any problems with the left or right tone playing. Regarding the norton thing, I have no idea why it does that to be brutally honest, I've noticed it on my work computer as well; there is nothing that opens up any internet ports or anything to my knowledge, but I may have implemented something early on that attempts to utilize http gets or something for some sort of easter egg.1. It's a JRPG style game that is a hybrid audio-indie game that attempts to break into the indie game market, as a proof of concept of accessibility in main stream games. Thanks (I have been desperate for some feedback on this game, seriously). The footsteps aren't coordinated yet. In fact they haven't been changed since they were implemented. This is because I'm not really content with the movement model, and I've already changed it again in this current release I'm working on (which should be out by the end of the week). It will eventually correlate with the walking animation/speed once those details are more finalized.I'll have to look more into the bookmarks not working though. What exactly isn't working about them, do they go silent sometimes randomly, or do they play the wrong sound, in the wrong place ect.As you might suspect, developing a hybrid game has a lot of interesting challenges and most development is on the sighted side of the game, optimization and other similar features. I never received a C order from Nintendo. It's also likely since the release is so small that Nintendo probably doesn't care - after all I don't think it considers blind gamers as part of its demographic.I made around $200 on donations, that's about it.

Hello,There are some bugs regarding the extra keys and the party menu in that version, I will hopefully be updating it soon to fix these. I've patched a good amount of them already but I'll be double checking to make sure I didn't miss anything. You don't need to interact with the menu in order to continue with the tutorial, you can simply select "next" to move on to the next part. While slower, you can still pass through the stats of a character by using the arrow keys.

If Bulbasaur is at level 7, it should learn Leech Seed. It learns Vine Whip at level 13. Vine whip is 4x powerful against Ground/Rock types. However, both Geodude and Onix have Sturdy which requires 2 hits for a KO, so plan accordingly. You can also use nidoran's double kick, or butterfree's sleep powder to help too.Level wise you should be no less than level 12 when facing him.

Would posting the project files in a RAR archive or something be more helpful? That way you can change the files directly. Scripts are written in pure GML, but objects, rooms ect. are in xml-like files.There are alternate IDEs that can be used but I think they require a registered version of game maker in order to compile. Try parakeet. I haven't tested it for accessibility but its designed like a more standard IDE and it converts the terrible Drag and drop stuff into code automatically.https://parakeet-ide.org/

The project is officially done and I'm only keeping the files available on my dropbox for legacy purposes. Please let me know if any of them don't work.Some examples of why the code won't be worked on anymore:1. The code is extremely messy, including the following:- Because of a bug that caused HP to dip below 0, EACH STEP the game checks if the HP has gone below 0 and corrects it if it hasn't.- The pokemon party is built in 6 1-d arrays and is accessed through switch statements throughout the code.- Very few constants are used in the game, so yeah, every time I reference a pokemon, I'm actually referencing their index number. Imagine how coding with that gets.- Every single attack's ability is stored in a single function and has a lot of copy-pasted code. This script is over 10,000 lines long.- The code that handles how attacks are calculated is a spaghetti filled mess.2. The code is not flexible at a
 ll and doesn't utilize inheritance properly.3. A good portion of the menu code is handled through game maker's drag and drop system, which makes it extremely hard to maintain because this system is slow, buggy and generally crap.I really hope that this makes it very clear why continuing work on this project is really not worth my time. I have considered contacting the development team of Pokemon Showdown to at least have that be more accessible but honestly I don't feel confident enough in my web development skills to do so.I hate admitting this but I started braillemon as an ambitious newbie who knew nothing about development, and this is what happens to a large, ambitious project that's managed by someone who clearly doesn't know anything about how to manage a project. All a learning lesson though. Development continues on Colors, but currently right now most of the development is based around the engine itself and not on adding new con
 tent; the bulk of the game is expected to start development around June or July 2017.I expect a full release by August 2019 if I can reach funding goals; if I can't receive any funding it will probably be a year or two pushed back. One of the main challenges with colors is that since it's also a visual game, I need to compensate for graphics as well. I'll also find a better sound effect.There is also the ability to place down audio bookmarks while on the overworld for navigation purposes. To place a bookmark I believe it's shift, and press ctrl to clear all your current bookmarks.Certain items you can push. You can push a chair in the first map (although it doesn't have a label yet), and you can push the statue on the map with Mike's house (this has a label, when you approach it it describes the statue. You can push it to the right, and underneath the statue is an item).For the bird watching the birds only make noises when they fly away right now; I want to hav
 e them have the actual bird calls, or at least reproductions of them, so that you can identify a bird from its sound. When you're close to a bird, if you have the bird guide in your inventory, simply use it to record a new bird.You can also use an item that you set in the item menu in the overworld using backspace; if it has an overworld effect it will trigger when you press it.Oh and one last thing - aura color of the party is much more intuitive this time. The first character uses their Red value as the aura's red value, the second is with green and the third is with blue.
