Soon, there is going to be an in-game event to raise money for the #TeamTrees fundraiser.  Players will be able to earn points that go towards increasing the amount of a donation.  I'm still working out the details, but tentatively it will go from the 10th to the 17th this month.  I'll post more details as I figure them out.I also want to give out prizes to the top contributors, and you will also get a badge next to your name in the Steam leaderboards.

Jonnyboy1991, those missions are mostly about keeping your speed up so that Antimony doesn't get too far ahead.  It helps to put some points into cornering so that you don't lose too much speed going around the turns.You can get more points by going back and improving your medals on other missions, by completing bonus objectives, or by completing missions on other difficulties.Missing notes slows you down and prevents you from gaining boost power, so that is the biggest threat.  You can actually complete the mission with no upgrades at all if you don't miss any notes.

Maybe I could also change the steering sensitivity when the assist option is on?  But I wonder if I could provide some kind of audio feedback that reflects the sensitivity of the steering.  I'm not sure what that would sound like.  If you HOLD down the button to steer, that's like cranking a car steering wheel hard to the left/right... But that isn't quite clear from the audio.

Yes, the mission has a "stealth" meter which does deplete whenever you miss notes or hit the wall because its "noisy".What if the steering assist helped to avoid hitting walls or something?

I just uploaded a new version to itch and steam.Version 1.1.9d    - Added a game options menu.  Press the tilde key or left shoulder button at the mission selection or arcade song selection to bring up a menu with a few settings.    - Added a game speed setting which can be used to slow down or speed up the game.    - Added support for split screen in the audible cues modes.  Player 2 can either use the same audible cues as player 1, or they can use visible cues.  This setting is available in the game settings menu.  Press start on a second controller at the arcade screen to join as player 2.    - Added narration to changing sort methods in arcade mode.    - Added track BPM and number of notes to the help narration in arcade mode.    - Fixed a bug where the game narrated "first place" with no other rivals on the track.    - Fixed a bug where some settings were not being saved when going into an options sub-screen.    - Fixed a bug where resetting mission progress did not reset the number of attempts on missions, causing the story dialog to not appear again.

Sorry I made a change to how AC1 mode works that affected grim heart.  Grim heart is 170 BPM and the game is treating it like an 85 BPM track because 170 is above a certain threshold...  but I'm not sure if this is the threshold that I want.  I need to do more work to make these weird cases work better.  85 or 170 BPM are right on the edge of a threshold where the sections can either be awkwardly too short or too long.I actually checked in the change because I was fixing an unrelated DLC issue.

Hey simba, the chimes indicate where turns and straight sections are.The drum sound that happens shortly after hitting the hyper button is actually where hyper effect starts.  You should hear your boost power level draining on the right side.  The effect lasts for maybe 5 seconds, depending on how much boost power you have, but is extended by hitting notes.

Folks, I think next week I'll try to spend an entire week catching up on bugs and requests.  I think major things that I want to work on are:- Steam leaderboards support for the audible cues modes- Add a faster way to adjust accessibility options, probably by a menu that can be brought up during the arcade or mission selection screens.I'm currently spending all of my time on the expansion.  I've now got ten new tracks that will go into it!  And I'm still on the lookout for more.  Also, the story and mission layout is beginning to take shape.

Ok.  I see what you are saying.  I think maybe some people get an inconsistent amount of input lag, if that is what you are saying.  I sometimes see that if my computer is busy doing something else in the background while playing.  It is hard to say from here, though. I'd have to first do something to determine if there are issues and I'm not sure what I could do about it.  Maybe something to do with using a higher thread priority or something.  If I can think of something to squeeze in today then I will but it is hard to promise anything when I'm still not sure what the issue is.  I'm not sure which of the many threads might be causing the problem on your machine.Today I'm hoping to finish up the next DLC preview which will have a few test missions and one more track.

keyIsFull, what most rhythm game players do is press the buttons or keys loud enough so that they can hear their own timing physically.What you are suggesting isn't so easy to do because there is a bit of lag involved with rendering audio, normally, so there would be a bit of a delay that would throw you off.

I guess I should be pragmatic and thorough, and mention that sometimes people's machines have larger audio buffers which causes audio to be delayed more than usual, causing the general game sync to be off.  If you press F1 during the score screen, you should hear a timing offset which should help you to adjust the judgement timing in settings.

Hi keyIsFull.  I'm sorry that you aren't getting good performance.  My main machine has an i7-4770k running at 3.5Ghz with four cores, and the game uses about 10% of the processor during gameplay.It is very possible that something just isn't working properly on your machine.  The game engine is written entirely by me so I don't have a third-party to blame.The game runs many threads.  The audio rendering thread runs with real-time priority to avoid audio skipping.  Then, the graphics thread which will wait (or not) depending on whether you have v-sync enabled, and then the main thread.  There are other low-priority threads dedicated to such things as logging.   The main thread, where input is gathered, has a 1 millisecond "wait" which isn't all that different from a 5 millisecond or 0 millisecond wait in my testing.  The point of the short wait is so that the game can gather input events as fast as possible, as events coming from Windows for DirectX do not have accurate timestamps on them (as far as I know).  On strict timing difficulty, you must hit the button within a 45 millisecond timing window, so it is important for the main thread to spin fairly fast.Sleeps are never a consistent amount of time, though, so if inputs are gathered during a "slow" update, then the timing error is given in the player's favor.Could you send your logs to dan...@specialmagicgames.com?  There is a tiny bit of performance information in there.  I log an "Update time avg" which is the average main thread update time.  On my machine, it is usually around 6 milliseconds.  I'm also interested to know which timing difficulty you are using.

kianoosh, most of the time your rig is on auto-pilot.  However, you can steer briefly while boosting.  The track is always the same fairly narrow width, so you don't need to steer much at all, and so it only requires very brief taps of D or F most of the time.The reasons that you need to steer are.. 1)  while boosting, steer to avoid touching the walls.  The walls of the track make a low rumbling sound that you can hear on your left or right.  2) If you boost while behind a rival, you will hear the rival's slipstream which sounds like a whistling wind.  If you steer into the slipstream you will gain much more speed from your boost.  and 3) some missions have obstacles that you need to use boost and steering to avoid.  And sometimes, rivals will be in your way.  You will hear warning beeps if anything is directly in front of you.It is very difficult to avoid hitting walls if you boost during a turn in the track, even for sighted players, so it is advisable to only use speed boosts during straight-aways.  You know a straight section is starting when you hear the chime up in the center.

Game Man, you reported a bug about not being able to hear the rival in the Traitor mission.  I can't reproduce this.. Is it because the rival starts way ahead of you and you?  It isn't normally audible at the very start of the mission.Also I haven't seen any problem with taking damage while restarting the mission.

stewie, I don't think there is an issue with suckerpunch medium.  I think maybe that section is difficult because the notes/scratches start one quarter of a beat after the measures start?  If you play with the helper clap on then maybe that will help.

This week I worked on adding support for DLC in the game, which means that I can distribute a zip file with extra content and you can install and play it.  I didn't quite get done, and being Friday afternoon my energy is gone.What I wanted to do was to release in-development versions of the next DLC on the patreon.  I've already got new tracks in development.Well I think next week I'll be able to make a lot more progress.  Lots of random stuff happened this week.

TheBlindSaiyan, completing Man Vs. Machine unlocks the track Overload.Lirin, split screen doesn't work properly right now with the audible cues modes.  Player 2 can press start on a controller at the arcade screen to join, but right now there is no support for player 2 to play a different game mode or difficulty.  I actually have not even tested this yet.blindndangerous, I want to do something to make the simultaneous scratches on either side sound more distinct.  I have some other similar but different scratch sounds I think I want to try using on one of the sides.

musicman, leaderboards should indeed be enabled for audio cues 2 mode, because the notes are all the same as the visible cues mode.  But they aren't... it's a bug I need to fix.  Also I think I will also enable the visuals for that mode.blindndangerous, there are currently bugs that make Autumn Day Distraction not work properly in audio cues 1 mode (maybe also 2?).  It has to do with the fact that it has BPM changes in it.

The problem with adding online multiplayer is that it isn't a known quantity of work, I have no idea how long that would take for me to do.  Also there are only ever a few people playing at a time, anyway.  If you want to compete with others, then the Steam version has leaderboards for both times and scores in arcade mode, but I haven't made those accessible yet and made decisions about how they will work with the audio cues 1 mode.

What I'd really like to do, in addition to fixing all the last bits of accessibility, is to create a DLC expansion.  I'd like at least 5 new tracks, but that would take around $100 per track for licensing, if I were to get the tracks cheap.  I'm trying to strike a deal with one of the artists that I've already used.  I'd also like to include a bunch of new missions somewhere in the existing mission structure.  However, I can't afford to spend the time or money on that.  I guess that's why I'd like to use patreon for, but I'm not sure I'd get enough support there.

It seems like perhaps the users who are getting crashes are just running out of memory, but that is only a guess.  They all have had 4 gigabytes of ram.  The game uses about 500 megabytes of ram.  I'm curious how much memory your computer has free normally if you have 4 gigabytes of ram?

I just uploaded a new version 1.1.8c which adds a bunch more information to the log files to do with the crash that some users on Windows 7 are getting.  If you happened to be getting a crash, it would really help if you could play again with this version (you can check the version with F1 at the title screen) and send me your logs.  I don't need the crash.dmp file because it hasn't been useful for this particular problem.

A soundtrack on another site likely won't happen due to licensing difficulties.  If you buy the soundtrack on Steam, you'll get MP3 files in soundtrack folder that you can do whatever you like with.  But even that version of the soundtrack is missing a few tracks due to the aforementioned licensing issues.

Update 1.1.8bThis update fixes a bunch of smaller issues.- The progress completion display on the mission screen is now per-mission-difficulty rather than global.- Added game completion percent, the number of medals, and bonus objectives to the help narration on the mission screen.- Added more controls information to the help narration in arcade mode.- Removed the warning from the Audible Cues 1 mode selection.- Adjusted the call-and-response sections on Komodo so that the Rush Delivery mission bonus objective is possible.- Removed the "show ghosts" option from the race menu in itch.io builds.- Fixed the power increase sound playing when boost is not unlocked.- Narrate power max when power is gained via holds or mind tap.- Narrate some race statistics when pausing the game.  They can also be narrated at any time by pressing F1 or clicking the right stick.- Many small narration fixes and improvements.

I'm not sure if the expert levels are possible with how they are presented.  However, for most sighted players, they are equally brutal.  BUT! you must recognize that many sighted players have been playing similar games for more than a decade, and therefore have an enormous advantage.  Nobody has ever tried to translate this kind of gameplay into a blind-accessible mode, so the results are still up in the air.  I'm sure if you played for a few years, you might have a different view of the difficulty.

Version 1.1.7 (you can check the version with F1 at the title screen) adds a warning beep when you are about to collide with a rival or a barrier.  I'd like to know what you think of that.  I think it should help with those missions where you need to either avoid or cause a collision.I still want to do more balancing on the audio cues.  I intend to get all of those tricky missions to a place where I can complete them and the bonus objectives myself.Also, I have an idea about how holds will work.  I just need to get it done.  I really want to push and get everything done, I just need some more energy!

1.1.6cI'm still working on the crash that some Windows 7 users are experiencing. Hopefully the crash dump files in this build will give me enough information to figure it out.- The game now generates a crash.dmp file when it crashes.- At the title screen, pressing F1 or clicking the right stick will narrate the game build and version information.- The logs folder is now opened with F3 instead of F1.- Fixed a bug where a player sometimes would not have all of the unlocks that they should.- Fixed the narration of mission time requirements.

Yeah, I realized today that there isn't an easy way to for you to see the version number.  The game writes a log every time whether it crashes or not.  I'll add an easier way to get it.  I didn't put any patch notes on steam yet because I wasn't sure if the change fixed anything, and it doesn't appear to.

Dark, the double bing sounds are actually to tell you where turns and straight-aways are in the track.  The bing down on the left or right tells you when a turn is starting, and the big up in the center tells you that a straight-away is starting.  Also, the entire music track will pan a bit to the left or right during turns.  The narrator will narrate your placement whenever you pass or get passed.There are two rival difficulties available in arcade mode at first, with the default being the harder one.  Maybe you can try changing that.  The key to winning races is to gain as much boost power as you can, and then to use the boost power efficiently.  Missing notes is very detrimental because it causes you to not gain any boost power for that entire section.

dark, A few people have had that problem.  I think it is just Steam being stupid.If you right click the game in steam's list, then go to properties, then the local files tab, and then click "verify integrity of game files" it should force it to update.  Or maybe just restart Steam.

#299 jfayre By default, the scratch sounds are bound to either E and R (for the left side) and U and I (for the right).D and F for steering is only used while using the speed boost ability, where you skip over the rhythm notes, so it is fine if D and F are also bound to other things.

Somebody made me realize that the change to the sanity missions isn't quite fair.  I'm not actually sure how to make those audible.  For sighted players, the items aren't even visible unless you boost, but it is clear where they will appear when you learn the trick.  So here's how to "cheat" those missions:spoilerThe items spawn in locations based on the notes.  The audio cues for columns 1 and 2 (bound to LB/RB or F/J keys) and also the wide notes (bound to A button or space bar) spawn near the middle of the track.  So, if you boost and stay near the middle in after hearing those cues, you will collect the items.

Audible cues mode 2 has the same number of notes as the visible cues mode.  In today's update, I added an option in the accessibility->audio cues menu to adjust how early the cues are.To be honest I am more concerned right now about making all of the mission mechanics accessible than I am about holds.

@game man"you" are always in the center of the stereo audio.I just today realized that I need to do more work on the panning of rival racers, because it isn't quite right at the moment.  You don't really hear where they are until they are too close.To get that bonus objective, realize that if they get in front of you, they will try to dive-bomb you.  So, one sure way to get the bonus objective is to never let them get in front of you.

stewie, you could play brutal defenses or rush delivery to practice the barriers.  They are the same mechanic.  You can dodge all of the ones in these missions just by being near the wall.

The bells indicate where turns and straight-aways are in the track.  So when you hear the chime up in the center, that is a good time to use a speed boost.I may at some point add these sounds to the cues screen so you can get a description of what all of the sounds are.

I'm curious to know if those issues to do with button mashing persist in today's build 1.1.5j.  I disabled some DirectInput code that I had put in around the same time that I started adding the narration and such.  I have no idea if that is causing the problem but I have no other ideas.

In the new build, I attempted to add a PDB file but something isn't quite working so the logs aren't any more useful.  I'm sorry about the crashes and problems but it is very difficult for me to diagnose from here, especially when I'm not experiencing any of those issues.  I've never had any of these issues until just recently.

SLJ, the game doesn't have a calibration mode, but if you look at the extra information on the score screen with F1 or by clicking the right stick, you should get an average timing offset which you can use to adjust the timing.Although, a score above 90% isn't bad at all.

aaron, I don't think I have gotten anywhere with the crash.  Plenty of people are playing on windows 7, but you should have the latest graphics drivers for whatever hardware you have.  That would be the first thing I would suggest for that particular crash, which seems graphics related.

There is a bug where the option to remove simultaneous inputs doesn't work on the scratches.  I'll fix it.  I also have an idea to use a different type of scratch sound to use for one of the sides, so that it isn't just the panning that differentiates them.
