@22 and 23: Thanks, I'll check them out.@25: The difficult thing with Handy Tech displays is that JAWS comes with a pre-installed driver for Handy Tech braille displays, only it seem s to be an outdated one, so you have to download an additional one fromthe Handy Tech site, install it and that's really annoying.

@17: Agreed. And I haven't yet found a way to turn this off.Installing a braille display with JAWS (drivers and such) is also very difficult sometimes.

Hi,I am thinking about installing NVDA, but I have some questions before I do:1. Are there any conflicts if JAWS and NVDA are installed (NOT running) on the same computer?2. Do I need to disable JAWS before installing NVDA?3. Are there a lot of things to relearn when installing NVDA?4. And last but not least: How is NVDA that small? I mean, the .exe-file I downloaded from their website was only 24,5 MB or so. Why is it so much smaller than JAWS or does it get bigger when installed?

Hi,I really enjoy the forum, although in my early (and immature) days of posting I sometimes was slightly involved in drama topics, but I fortunately haven't gotten a warning yet.Although there has been quite some negativity here recently, I still enjoy the forum. I not only enjoy the many discussions about games, but also the wide variety of topics discussed in the Off-Topic Room. From computer tips to technical support to even discussions about space missions (check out Magurp for that), there's something for everyone there.All in all, I think the forum is great for keeping up with game releases, discussing games and discussing all sorts of other stuff.But now, to the negative points:I don't like that developers who made some mistakes in the past aren't really given a second chance on here. And I know I'm sometimes part of this, but sometimes I just can't hold it back.And about user karma: I always like to divide the number of a person's posts through their user karma to maybe see how useful/entertaining/whatever their posts are. I am not super focused on user karma, but I still appreciate that shiny little plus sign with a number below my posts.So, according to my profile, I registered here in 2017, but I started posting some time later.

Hello,Nothing much going on for me, I have university holidays at the moment, which doesn't mean much since we still have to work on projects.On another note, I just finished the series "sex education" on Netflix (although I'm sure there will be more seasons coming).It's about the son of a sex therapist who, together with a female friend, runs a "sex clinic" (giving out sex advice) at his school. It's also about his and a few others' love problems.And what should I say? It's an awesome series. It's both hilarious and also transports some important values and delivers important messages (but I can't say more or else I'll spoil something).

@7: Baum has merged with the main austrian assistive technology provider, so I am not sure if they're still producing braille displays. Anyway, Baum displays aren't too good from what I've heard.I would go for the Handy Tech/Helptech (I think they call themselves Helptech now) Active STAR. It's not out of metal, but it's still very robust. It has also good some neat features like the ability to put in a memory card, a full internal menu where you can read and write documents, read the time and some other stuff.If you decide to go for that one, just watch out for the magnetic keyboard that is shipped with the braille display for using it without a computer, because the magnets break off very easily.Hope my post helped a little and please don't see this post as advertising, I just really enjoy the product.Edit: Oh, forgot to mention that it also works with an IPhone via a bluetooth connection.

@Dark: Yeah, the "may this year be better than the last" was really annoying.Corona-wise, even though Austria is in a lockdown (don't mind the 5000-people protest march and the open skiing resorts *irony*), numbers of new infections haven't really gone down that much. And a lot of other crazy shit has been going down here in Austria, but explaining that would go into too much detail. Oh, and universities have been closed roghly since October/November, so far no word from the government about universities.

So JAWS installs this bunch of Visual C++ redistributables? I thought they were forced on me by Windows 10 or something.But check your Apps & Features (name may vary if you're on Windows 7 or older) and you'll see how many extra programs are forced on you by JAWS (or maybe our local JAWS distributor installed them when setting up the PC). I mean stuff like FSOCR, something called Openbook, the FSReader (which is used for I think training materials), something called Omnipage 19, Touch SErver 64, USB camera driver, and display accessiblity driver. Oh, and Freedom Scientific Finereader. I don't even know what the fuck half of this stuff does.

What I don't like about Edge is that I can't seem to read the contents of text fields when editing them and that Edge doesn't seem to have a menu bar like Internet Explorer. Plus, I can't seem to change Edge's search engine, and Bing is just horrible.

Hi,Yesterday, I found a new version of the female agent game. It was a downloadable .html file. I downloaded it onto my IPhone. When I tried to open it in the files app, it said that _javascript_ was required to continue, but in the SAfari settings, _javascript_ was enabled.What can I do to fix this?

@3: At least for me, double-tapping didn't work there, it took me a bit to figure out that I had to do the gesture to go to the home screen.@OP: What IPhone do you have? If it is one with a home button, just press the home button. If it doesn't have a home button, perform the gesture you normally use to go to the home screen.

Hi,So, another one of my stories from university:As we have once again switched to distance learning, we were told how to do a remote desktop connection to one of the computers in the university building.What I didn't know was how complicated it would be to do that with JAWS.I need to pay 200 bucks just to enable the remote desktop feature on my (already approximately 1000 dollar) JAWS license. Seriously, Freedom Scientific or whatever you call yourselves these days?I am just annoyed at how they are milking every last cent out of their customers, that's why I won't ever do a JAWS upgrade again, unless I get a new laptop (which gets the newest version pre-installed).Apart from that, university is going very well, apart from me constantly getting distracted during online lectures where the teachers do what seem like eternal monologues.

Hello everyone,I think I have found another accessibility bug in the YouTube app for IOS.Whenever a community post on YouTube contains a link and I try to click it, you just hear the VoiceOver sound that would indicate the end of a page, but the link doesn't open. Does anyone know a workaround for this?On a sidenote, am I the only one who gets the impression that with every update the YouTube IOS app there's another accessibility bug introduced?

When I tried to access the list of audio-described german content it asked me for my Netflix account info (which I don't have, since I don't have Netflix but just wanted to check). Naughty, Netflix, very naughty to leave a blind customer in the dark about how much of your catalogue is actually described before buying a subscription.So, my question is: How much content is actually audio-described on Netflix in german?

@Dark: What happened to my parents was that the driver just drove towards our house, dropped the parcel in front of our door and then just wanted to drive away. I am not sure if it is the same in Britain, but in Austria someone has to sign a delivery notice when a parcel is delivered.So that was a fun story as well. And I think you can find plenty flying around on the Internet.We are currently doing semi-online lectured at university. This means that one half of the students is at the university itself, while the other half is at home.I a recent lecture, the professor played a video (he played it through the room's speakers, half of the students are at the university, remember) and we, following the lecture via Microsoft Teams, could only hear the video over the university computer's microphone. So it was nearly impossible to understand and follow. But wait for it: The best thing is that the people who were following the lecture from home couldn't even rewatch the documentary because it apparently was for use at the university only and the professor wasn't allowed to pass it on.Luckily, we discussed it again today, so I didn't miss anything.I hope I am not annoying you guys too much with my small university stories.

Hi,I am interested in buying a student subscription for Spotify, but have a few questions:1. Is there a way to access uncensored versions of songs on Spotify, or do you only get censored content on there? (silly question, I know, but I'm asking anyway)2. The student subscription has to be extended after a year. If I extend it too late and get downgraded to Spotify free, but go back to the student subscription once it has been extended, will songs I have downloaded for offline listening, custom playlists, etc. still be there or not?3. Hi,@the Person Talking About the Harry Potter/fantastic beasts movies: Some of the HP movies are very good, some (like the two deathly Hallows movies) are just horribly done.I also didn't really enjoy the first fantastic beasts movie when I watched it, but that might be because of the lack of Audio description when I watched it.I really like the Star Wars movies (except for Episode 8, Episode 7 was okay, and Episode 9 was disappointing to say the least). I also like the Mission impossible films (although I sadly only watched the 4th and 5th film).Then there are some german films like the fack ju göte series and Werner beinhart.

Hi,For University, I Need to use Google Docs and Google Drive, but I have some issues with both Services.In Google Docs, I don't know how to edit files with JAWS.In Google Drive, I don't know how to select Folders (I Need to upload certain files into a certain Folder and not doing so only causes confusion).I am using Windows 10 and JAWS 2020, and Win10 and JAWS 2018 on my other Laptop (just in case there is a difference).Can anybody help? Hi,Having this as a screen Reader voice would be nice (there would Need to be a german Version of this Thing though), because Eloquence is … well, not that great and the german vocalizer Voices are also not very good in my opinion.Did anybody manage to tell which voice sample was made with tacotron and which was recorded by a human? When listening to them yesterday, I couldn't tell which was which.

I have read one book (the martian, yes the one with main character Mark Watney they made a film out of) where this went horribly wrong. Hi,@Zac93: For regular exams, it is roughly like that (1 =100 % - 91 %, 2 =90 % - 81 % etc.). For the final exam it is a Little more complicated and I don't know all the exact Details myself.One more interesting Thing might be that if you have a 5 on an exam, that's a negative mark (with all others, you are positive).I hope my Explanation is not too confusing.
