Re: Calliope version 3.0, more than just a media player

Hey!I am using a Windows 10 laptop, and I've tried running it on compatibility settings. Because, I believe my configuration is relatively common, and if your software doesn't run on those machines, you could be missing out on some users. Let me know what can I do to help in solving this issue. Is there a log file, that would be useful. As you see angry bunch of folks, my words have not affected the person in question, so there's no need to be so serious about this. If anything, he has proven my words wrong by answering my question. If the first 2 posts couldn't get me my answers, the 3rd one definitely got it. Be it through angry responses, but I got what I want. Rest all is of little to no concern to me. If anything, your angry responses assured me that my post won't go unnoticed as the first 2 posts did.

Lol!Then my name was being used about 100 years ago before I was born. And unlike anyone, it was appearing in news papers throughout Lundon and probably entire country. The world began celebrating my appearance on Earth about 100 years ago, and that too through the mouth of one very respectable fellow, Sir Arthur Conan Doil.

Oh come on,1 word, Arrogant, and it brings out responses from all the random people that I don't even care about. But, the question which it was addressed to, the developer, still didn't help me.And mind you, it was indeed in a question form , as in "are you so Arrogant", not "you are Arrogant". And that too after 2 not so angry posts. So, angry people, just chill out, and let me get the help from the person I want, If anything, my motive is to support a fellow blind developer, who seems to have developed some amazing tool which currently I am unable to utilize due to some stupid error. If you angry bunch of humans can't help me with my problem about a music player software, then I do not appreciate or care about any opinions about my achievements, my success, my accomplishments, my objectives or anything. Because guess what, you people hardly know me, I hardly know you. So any opinions of mine over you, or otherwise are going to be superficial and probably inaccurate due to being formed over one post on the internet.

Okay, we all know Google TTS, but I've seen some guys using even a very better sounding version of that with Talkback. It sounds like how Google Home devices sound, even the English US voice sounded very nice. And they were not using TTS on Google Home or any other fancy device, it was their phone, don't know what phone though. What I wanted to know is how on earth do I get that. I can't ask that guy as I don't know him, I don't have his contact details.Edit: The more and more I think about it, I feel like it also sounded very similar to Cortana's English US voice. But the guy was definitely using an android phone, that I am very sure of.

Re: Sad to read this

Well,We had a college event on awareness, and in that, walking and what sighted people can avoid to make our lives easier was one of the objectives. In one section, we blindfolded sighted visitors, and gave them a cain, and told them to walk through the corridor strait in front of them. We had obstacles and even real people sitting down with their legs spread wide, like how usually it is seen in the college, and at the end, they were told to remove blindfold and observe the corridor, and see if they can improove anything in future. At the end, they didn't say that it was terrible, but observed that despite doing it for first time, they successfully crossed the corridors with few bumps here and there. The message being, it's okay to bump in to a blind person, it's just as common as any other routine obstacle for them, and it's convenient if you try to minimize obstacles for them.Next time, I am going to suggest them to have a volunteer do the task of suddenly grabbing their shoulders or elbow while walking, in order to tell them how to not do it and how to do it properly. It's god damn scary if you are a blind girl and strangers do it. Even for boys it is scary. It is true that white skin colour is favoured more even in asian countries, but I don't think that dark skin coloured people receive such a bad treatment in these countries. No dark skin coloured person would be prohibited from occupying any position, or no person is killed just because his skin colour is so and so. Buty standards from a sighted perspective are a bit weird, and I don't fully understand them. But it's definitely media which propagates fair skin colour in these countries. I suppose having dark skin coloured people, males and females, in the industry and literature can go long way in shaping societies understanding of beauty. Afterall, if you can love a person with so and so skin colour, you can definitely stand and fight for them.

@5:I know, accessing a website to read graphs is not convenient, but I think the implementation is way good.. Those braille dots in edit box indicate the direction of the graph, for example, if it's braille dot 3 5, then you know that it's going upwards, if it's 2 6, then it's going downwards. And dot 3 6, or 1 4, would indecate that the graph is more or less flatter.I think they will probably package the entire thing in a convenient package once the development is done up to a satisfactory level so we can use the software offline. And it's very responcive too, something I appreciate so much.

Well, 800 million bits of 1s and 0s can go on producing virtually infinite amount of combinations,, not to mention lot of them wouldn't be understandable. It's like the Rubix cube, 9*6 = 54, and just 54 set of boxes go on producing milions of combinations.

Re: Sad to read this

Oh yes,The Healthcare point hits me home. I've seen foreigners traveling to my country for just getting medical treatment, simply because it's too expensive in their own country. It's known as medical tourism. I luckily have free quality healthcare for my entire life, and thankfully my parents too, but not my siblings, and yes, majority of us don't have free healthcare. Thankfully, some of the government hospitals will treat you at subsidised rates, but the quality is not that good, so even that could be a path to death. If you are one of the 1%, or 10%, then you will be  emptying your bank account really fast if you fall ill. And most of us don't even buy health insurance, so, guess what, many die from curable illnesses. This reminds me of relative poverty and absolute poverty. Basically, even if a household is able to afford and fullfill it's basic needs and live comfortably, the policy measures fail to take in to consideration the effects of a calamity, medical emergency, sudden needs arising out of educational pursuits of children, and whatever unforeseen sudden financial strains. These events will push the household in to absolute poverty, and it will strugle to meet even it's basic needs. So, do we give them just enough to survive, or we make them comfortable and assure support to them in case of difficulties. The basic question is, is bringing people out of poverty enough, will they be able to maintain that level of income after some period, will they be able to cope with sudden unforeseen challenges, because if they don't all that work of bringing them of poverty goes to the dustbin.

Re: comparing screen readers on Windows 10touch devices, your experiences?

Okay,I will say that all screen readers support interaction with touchscreens. The difference is when you want specific things. For example, I've been unable to figure out how to scroll a long page on windows with NVDA using touch screen, not even the enhanced touch gestures addon has anything about scrolling. Narrator does allow me to scroll, but it lacks or falls behind when it comes to quickly changing speed or some settings on the go. Also, none of screen readers come with gestures for start menu or back button, or going to desktop, or closing the current program, so you have to hunt for these buttons on screen in order to use your computer. So, in my opinion, touchscreen support on windows with screen readers is much behind and unpolished.Honestly, other than reading stuff, I don't think anyone would do anything with just a touchscreen and windows with screen readers.

Yes, they are there, and they look like a tile, just square with graphics and text in it.You can turn them off from settings. Just search for lock screen in settings, then after tabbing for a while, you will come across some combo box, and in each of them, select none.

Umm,My motive or intent of posting this on this forum was not to start a political war, but to bring in light the harsh realities that people even in developed countries face. If these problems still prevail in those countries, as a social science student, I am forced to ponder whether the path of development that billions of humans are forging is really worth it. What is the point of that immense diffence budget if the problem is more severe on the inside. What is the point when masses suffer, few trample on the resources, and the only development path is to exploit resources with increasing scarcity and increasing value of those resources which only increases the inaccessibility of those resources for masses.Surely, even countries which are exploring alternative development planns, which are not solely based on increasing output or prices, they too suffer from various problems. A search on Bhutan's crime rate brings out that even they have these problems, police brutality does exists, though in lesser extent.Perhaps the source of this problem is not in Economics, but in administration. Can we develop an alternate system to the current police system, can we improve the current system, if so, what are the ways of doing it. But before all that, it is of immense importance that we acknowledge that the problem exists and a solution is needed. But, today, even though we have information highway at our hands, people refuse to see the truth and blindly follow what they think is the reality. And therefore, I posted this on this forum, so that this small portion of people can see the reality and work accordingly. Democracy is a very cumbersome way of getting things done, but it's supposed to project everyone's voices. However, that is not the only way, democracy also means independent judiciary, freedom to organize ourselves, to fight for our cause in a fruitful manner, to voice our opinions. So, if government is failing to see the reality, people must show the reality and bring change through other fruitful ways. And mind you, violence is not a fruitful way.

How good it is to have a protector who doesn't protect, the leader who leads towards misery, the people who support these 1st 2 things. I don't blame those who support them, but wish that they don't look at silly things such as colour, cast, religion, nationality, age, sex, disability, and focus more on things that matter, the happyness, the environment of inclusion, the environment of opportunities, the environment of prosperity. Keep in mind that we all share blood which is red, we all have more or less same DNA, more or less same bodies and more or less same hopes and aspirations. Noone actually wants to harm anyone if such a world is strived for.Things like this happen all around the world, but US is a country that one may expect to do better.

Re: How to learn a musical keyboard

Seems like you are an absolute beginner in piano/keyboard.I don't know how much musical knowledge you have, You need to learn skailes, practice a bit of Hanin and other exercises to get a grip over keys, learn some cords, and then move on to playing songs.Youtube can be a grate source in this. Search for beginner piano or beginner keyboard. "Pianode" is a youtube channel with lots of basic things for beginners. The first thing you want to learn is finding the key C. It's a white key, that means it's among those flatter keys which are towards your chest. A trick to find C is to look for 2 very close black keys, black keys are thin protruding keys on top of white keys, and just left side of those 2 very close black keys, that is 1 semitone down from the 1st of those 2 black keys will be the C key. Remember, on the left side of those black keys will be the C key. From there, if you play 7 consecutive white keys, you get the entire scale of C. That means, after every 7 keys or, to say it more accurately, after every 7 white notes,, you will find the same note at 8th position in upper or lower octave.

Remember, on the left side of those black keys will be the C key. From there, if you play 7 consecutive white keys, you get the entire scale of C. That means, after every 7 keys, you will find the same note in upper octave.

Re: drag and drop with NVDA

NVDA has no official way of doing that as far as I know. What you can do is to get a sense of where things are on your screen if you have the touch screen, and then doing drag and drop using touch screen. Touch screen makes it a bit easy.

Re: How to learn a musical keyboard

Well,You need sighted assistance for that. Ask a relative or a friend to help you to know which key is what. May be BeMyEyes can help, although I highly recommend a person sitting right next to you can do much more better job. Keyboards have so many buttons, and lot of them are multifunctional, they do different things based on the menu that is being shown on the screen. A sighted person might not know what function the key performs, but with the help of manual, you can figure out that. Hell, I've once played a keyboard with a touchscreen, and I couldn't get pass the defalt piano sound. But a keyboard with buttons, I was able to learn it under a week.

Oh!In my country, it's actually werst. There are no audio cues, and we don't even have that button to make the green light come. The traffic signals are automated, and have no audio indication. That combined with poorly maintained roads, crazy trafic and even crazier people makes the absolute death trap for a blind guy trying to cross a road. Most of us will take someone's help to cross the road. I've tried doing it alone, but that's because I have a bit of vision, and even then, I have very scary horror stories to tell about it. The ongoing metro construction makes situation even more miserable.I am curious about the sides of the roads in US. They say that you can use that for guidance, but in hear, the sides of road, where the roads end and the sidewalk begins, are absolutely dirty. Sometimes, water accumulates in that place, so, I don't think anyone uses those edges of roads for walking. Also, besides 2 roads crossing, don't you guys struggle with a circular intersection, like a ring. There are lot of them in my city, and they are absolute hell if you want to cross on foot. There are also intersection with roads with bridges or flyovers in between, and I will never try to cross that place on my own ever in my life because they are so scary.

GBoard update

2020-09-03 Thread AudioGames . net ForumOff-topic room : MyDearWatson via Audiogames-reflector

GBoard update

I recently received an update for GBoard, and it has made typing experience weird. Now, your Delete, Enter, Symbols keys require double tap, which is actually triple tap if you consider the finding that key itself firstly. I can understand the thinking behind this, may be they want to protect the typing experiance from accidental touches. But, now, your left and right swipes will take you to next key instead of the next item on the screen. Moving the cursor is also tedious as now, you have to touch the edit box first before trying to move the cursor. Touch a key on the keyboard, and your volume keys are just volume keys. Now, in a form, you will have to constantly hunt for the edit box on the screen, and if it's a long form, then it's going to be very very difficult since left and right swipes aren't taking you to next item in that page. Also, there's simply no choice to change the touch behaviour of the enter and delete and those kind of keys, which I think is not good.I know that you can always go for a 3rd party keyboard, but since Google has adopted this, I feer of other devs following it. Though some people might like this change, and may be I am just being resistive to change, but I don't like where this is going. This has happened to me on a device running Android 10, not sure about other devices.

Re: Our most epic time crunches.

Okay,This seems fun.Once, I realise that I had another job interview and therefore I couldn't go to the lectures in college. Sadly, one of those lectures was assignment submission, and I just realised this 1 night before. The assignment was ready, but I wasn't ready for the job thing. So, I Emailed my classmates my file, told them to print and submit it, and started preparing for the job thing. I didn't get the job, but got good marks for the assignment.Another time, we had an event, and basically we were going to show a movie. It's only 3 hours before the event we realise that we don't have the movie on CD or on pendrive. One of the friends got it from the internet, but, sadly, there was a glitch in the file, and midway through the movie, it suddenly stopped. Thankfully, we had a good guest speaker who took control of the situation. That was the most embarrassing event management I've been part of. The event itself was a success though, because it was not so much about watching the movie, but understanding the concepts from the movie. There was one more event where I was suppose to play, and I prepared the song just 3 hours before the show, and practiced for just 30 minutes. During the event, I cut off an entire verse of the song. Thankfully nobody noticed and everyone thought that we were supposed to sing only those verses which they sang. There was one more time when I printed my important documents required for the exam literally just before the exam and technically in the exam room. That was a very intense situation.I know that you have to avoid falling in to such situations, but the skill, resourcefulness  and ingenuity that you display during such testing times is the real testing time and prepares you for real challenges ahead. The key is to be calm, maintain confidence, and assess the situation and resources that you have.

This is obviously very India focussed, and it doesn't even has any app that I know of. Basically, the entire platform works through IVR "Interactive Voice response", which is the system used by call centres and service centres. You call a number, the system gives you options and the number associated with it. You press that number and navigate the entire platform in that manner. If you want to share something, just press the designated number, and then speak the message that you want to share. Remember folkes, we are talking about people who don't have good internet access and probably not even a smartphone. Some of them still use that old feature phone which doesn't even has a camera. So, this social media platform based on calls makes sense for them.I am sharing an article by forbes India just in case someone want to learn more about it.https://www.forbesindia.com/article/iim … rk/48531/1We probably want something more convenient than making voice calls and navigating I.V.R.s, so this might not be the solution that we want. Re: Problem with reapers virtual midi keyboard. is there a fix?

There's another solution.Try doing step recording. You can record few notes of a cord once, and again record the other notes of that over that. This is time consuming, but if all that you want is some basic comping, then it might get the job done. Also, I believe you have to change the recording mode in Reaper somewhere in order to record notes over existing notes.

And yes, I have a desktop USB keyboard as well, and I have used the phone that way, but my intention is to go very portable, and a USB keyboard isn't exactly the thing I want to carry in college or office. I also know about Talkback keyboard shortcuts, thanks for suggesting that. I am hoping that whatever magical software connects my laptop keyboard to my phone allows me to use those shortcuts.@7:It does sound like that can get the job done, but it would be better if the thing allows me to control the phone as well to some extent.

Re: How to control my Android phone using the keyboard of my laptop

@2:I don't need my Phone's screen displayed on my laptop, just want to send keyboard commands from laptop to phone. Kind of how NVDA remote works, but in reverse fashion. And no, Naaval or whatever Android app that is, it doesn't work the way I want.

How to control my Android phone using the keyboard of my laptop

How to control my Android phone using the keyboard of my laptop

As the title suggest, how do I use my laptop's keyboard to control my Android phone. I am just asking this because typing with a physical keyboard is so nice on phones. I know, bluetooth keyboard is the way to go, but as I already carry my laptop, I don't want to carry additional gadget with me for that.

Re: Good PDF converter or reader?

Oh yes,I am so happy to see this topic, and other blind folkes talking about dealing with math.Mine was a bad ride, and it wasn't even computer science or physics. I went with askey text, and it was lot of pain. But I preferred it because other people, even sighted folkes could read through and help me with that. Lots of symbols were missing, but I made up lots of them with weird other symbols." ` for Beta" for example. My teachers cooperated, but I wrote my exams with a writer, whenever there was math involved.I am very sure if I had a braille display or something, the thing would have been smoother and gpa in merit category. It's distinction now, and I am trying not complaining.

Re: What takes up so much space in Windows10?

Mine only takes up 37 GB though the C drive is 100 GB. Although all of my important files, documents, downloads, music, whatever I feel I don't want to be deleted is stored on other drives, the programms are installed in the C drive. Even icons on desktop are just .lnk files to my folders on these other drives.Regular reset of Windows 10 annually can help a lot. Yes, Windows can and will work without resetting, but, I find it very refreshing and convenient to reset windows or reinstall it from an ISO. It not only fixes whatever small errors that might have developed over the time, but also gets rid of stupid temporary system files that might be clogging the resources.

Re: How do I shuffle a deck of cards?

2020-08-20 Thread AudioGames . net ForumOff-topic room : MyDearWatson via Audiogames-reflector

Re: How do I shuffle a deck of cards?

Yes,@6's method is the most common method. Your index finger and the thumb will rest on the 2 longer sides of the card deck, and the other hand will grab few cards from a random place in that deck, and then shuv them somewhere else. There's also 1 more simple method. You can simply start grabbing randum bunch of cards from the top of the deck and then shuv them at the bottom. do it for around 20 to 30 times, and if you've been good at being randum, then the deck should be shuffled.Another method is to divide the deck in 2, and then make sure that both are facing either up or down on the table, keep 1 deck in left hand and the other in right, then bring your hands together, now your thumbs of both hands will come together, you let the other sides of both the deck touch the table, and let the thumb go a bit loose so that cards from both of hands start falling in a random manner. At the end, you shal have your shuffled deck. This method requires lot of practice, but it looks so cool that I am sure that people around you will surely comment on that.

I know a particularly popular place where you can get it. The thing is that it's probably not legal, but, you know, try digging in to the most popular NVDA addons repository which is not the official NVDA community addons page. It literally shows up in the Google search results when you search for NVDA addons.Voldemort Voldemort! Voldemort Voldemort! Voldemort Voldemort Voldemort!

Re: is there a accessible tool to detect key and scale of a song?

Hmm,I too struggle with identifying the key of the songs and figuring out cords for the songs. It takes me an hour to learn the entire song, and that is only with basic chords, no d#7 or anything fancy. And mind you, that 1 hour isn't exactly my favorite time pass.Even experts use their ears and the musical instrument to figure out this stuff. So, you will have to just keep practicing. My teacher use to simultaneously start playing song as he is listening to it, even a completely unfamiliar song with chords and arpeggios and stuff.

I have done that. I got the Windows ISO using media creation tool and installed it.The thing is that somehow Windows figured out what drivers this laptop was using, and just reinstalled them.

Re: Problem with Audio on a Dell laptop

Thank you all for your useful suggestions. The problem is now solved.I uninstalled the HD audio drivers which were being used, then it reversed to RealTek drivers on it's own, then I uninstalled it, then I went in to settings and saw something about RealTek audio in apps and features section, I uninstalled it, and after restart, the laptop began using HD audio drivers again and the strainge problem mentioned in post 1 was gone.Thank you so much to everyone who replied and provided their suggestions regarding this issue.
