Re: computer power suplie exploded, is any thing else damaged? well my only suggestion as i said before is to try a new PSU in it but it sounds like that thing went out in a big way and has probably fried most of the stuff inside with it. drives should be ok but the rest, i couldn't swear too. there's a chance it blew before it did any damage to the voard or anything else but the bit where you say you kept turning it on and off and holding the power button worries me. also, how do you know the capacitor was from inside the power supply? only way you'd know that is to open it up which is insanely dangerous. i never open them. they can still carry a charge that will give you a lethal jolt when they aren't plugged in. Re: amazing JAWS offer for those in the UK! lol yet again, find somebody in america and share the 90 bucks a year. that does bug me though. that plan isn't available anywhere outside america and you can bet your arse they'd charge much more through resellers. that is one of the problems i have with their business. the software is fantastic but if you don't live in the states you pay more and their payment plan isn't available. i tried to buy an SMA when i was living in florida and they wouldn't sell it to me because my copy of jaws was registered in the UK. 125 bucks for the SMA in florida. £180 in england. the exchange rate at the time was about 2 bucks to the pound. so go figure. basically i got screwed. they also spent a lot of money on a new building with views over tampa bay. they were very excited about that until we all pointed out that blind people want products and don't care if their guys get a nice view over the water front. but as much as i hate them as an enterty and the way they do things, they do get things done. as other people have mentioned in this thread, if you can get on with NVDA, knock yourself out but if you actually take the time to learn jaws instead of jumping on it, you will see how much more powerful it really is. i am not dismissing NVDA users at all, just pointing out that the hole point of this thread was to tell people there is a hell of a deal going on that they do once a year so why get snarky about it and turn it in to a fuck jaws war which happens every time there is any mention of a screen reader here. Re: does anybody have tips on trimming a dog's nails? @8 is correct. guide dogs' nails need trimming for the reasons given and when they get too long they can also be uncomfortable for the dog. i guess breeds and other things factor in too but i remember the first time i took my dog for a checkup after i got her i asked for her nails to be trimmed. the vet couldn't believe how long they were but when she was cutting them she said they were very thinck and strong and wouldn't naturally ware down. she said labs do tend to have stong nails but it could also be the food she's on which i think has a lot of calcium in it. does anybody have tips on trimming a dog's nails? with the lock down going on i can't get my guide dog to a grooming parlor and her nails need trimming regularly no matter how much she walks. i have clippers but i am terrified to use them in case i cut too far back and hurt her. anybody know any tricks or any websites i can get some advice from? my dog and i would appreciate it. Re: tripping on truffles. interesting. must be a new name for something I never heard of. here in the UK truffles are just very expensive mushrooms that aren't worth the money and don't mess with your head. never done it myself but know friends that dabbled with magic mushrooms. they grow wild round here but i'm not sure how strong they are. their experiences varied from nothing, to fucked up beyond belief rolled up in a ball crying and thinking they're in the middle of the English civil war and there were knites in armor coming to kill them. the guy that told me about that last experience had taken a hell of a lot of them though.I would also suggest never picking wild mushrooms to trip on especially if you are blind. wild mushrooms can be hugely poisonous.
