That's why I'm kind of inclined to ask Dale about the status of the movie vault's legal status. After all, the mall appears, for all intents and purposes, to be a legitimate business /subset of independent shops. ON the outside at least. This is purely hypothetical at this point, since I've yet to see any legal proof-sightings from them. Besides, it isn't like the description tracks aren't copyrighted on their own, because I"m sure they are and I should hope the narrators are getting plenty in royalties.

Good on you, best of luck. If there's a budget you will probably want to know that anyway, since some of the advanced syndication features are available in the Buffer Publish upgrade, which is quite pricey if marketing infrastructure does not already have a budget. You'll want to know if you'll be doing post scheduling or simply stand-alone posts.Best of luck!

Re: Social media boot camp

Definitely ask which platforms you'll be using and whether you'll be doing syndicated posting. If there's no syndication, then don't even worry about Buffer. IN any case, consider bringing up the accessible course and that this would be a way for you to self-teach. You said in post 1 that you don't have social media experience, but you want to make that area of improvement something you can confidently say you can overcome. Having had work experience (both paid and not) in this gig I can assure you this will look good on a resume if you play your card right. So it is definitely a great decision to have taken advantage of this opportunity and stepped out of your comfort zone a bit. Congrats!

Re: Social media boot camp

Twitter is probably the easiest to become familiar with. Facebook is in the middle depending on what platform you use, an Instagram is, well, Instagram. More usable than not, although there are some hurtles to get through. If you have a planned budget for this position, would you possibly be interested in a comprehensive social media course? This could come in handy especially with Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat if the organization uses that as well. If you are interested, then have a look. It's the first listed course on the page. If you're after a comprehensive guide, this is where it's at. Especially if you are on a tight timeline and need to learn this stuff quickly, this is where you'll have all the information from an accessible point of view in one place.Just a heads up, Facebook and Instagram don't really have native clients on Windows. Their Windows Store apps are really just web-wrappers. Twitter's about the only social network that has both accessible and mainstream clients on Windows, such as TW Blue and Tween, as well as the much loved Twitterrific on IOS. Twitter is also undergoing a fundimental change in the form of an api revival, so you might be able to once again use these native clients and get a real-time stream of Twitter circa 2014-2018, unlike now where it is a delayed manual interval-based rest-api. This also means that there may be rule changes, for better or for worse, for post automation in social media bridges like Buffer. Inconsistencies in Twitter's and Instagram's post automation rules made it a pain to manage in one of my jobs as I ultimately had to set up the communications person's push notifications so that they would get notified when a scheduled Instagram post was supposed to roll out, and they would have to push it out manually whereas Twitter mercifully allowed the process to be automated.

It may be possible that the watch didn't ship with Talkback. While you'll need sighted help still, you might want to do Daniel Nash's Talkback installer for the watch.I really, really hate to say this, but I honestly would've had to recommend the Samsung Gear or anything running their OS since Ware OS is a dying breed unfortunately. Great OS, but it's at the Windows Mobile level of hanging by a thread. Google hasn't made their own watch hardware, which is part of the problem.

Windows XP Media Center edition wis its own eulogy. If streaming hadn't taken such a fragmented approach, media center would've paved the way for a unified streaming experience. Would have. Indeed there's Kodi but it gets bad press as a pirate streaming box when nothing of the piracy content is actually Kodi itself. But with big corporate media hating open standards, it gets lumped in with all it deems evil. For the same reason it despises torrents even though the protocol itself is completely legal and has many legitimate use cases.

@Nocturnus re: 41, You bring up a ery good point. For a while now I've thought their distribution status is ambiguous. But there's a clear difference between something like this and Apple2e emulation for example. Jason was transparent in distributing the written permission he had obtained from the former software vendors for distribution of the disk images of the games and programs he had included. We have yet to see similar from Blind Mice. I.e. a clause under copyright exceptions that indicates distributing movie description tracks falls under fare use? A written documents (similar to Chaffi Amendment in Bookshare's case even)? Nothing of the sort. Some state talking book libraries here in the states actually do deliver described movies on extended loan, though that is quite obviously as legal as a regular library doing the same for regular movies. On a somewhat related note, it is unfortunate that some of the state library collections have become quite dated by now, but that could also be due to the decrease in popularity of the dvd format.

@ignatriay You're totally right on that front. However, to my knowledge they don't do international shipments and I believe that was one of the reasons they kept kicking international folks off the site because they probably caught wind of the fact they were just using the site for the movie vault. So this guy likely isn't using the mart to actually buy something. Don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with the org, it just isn't allowed to discuss the vault here.

But in this case, you literally have:EltensubredditssocialsIf you want to use the Blind Mice Mart on your own time nothing is stopping you from doing it off-forum, just do us a solid and keep it off the forum. You act as if the mods enjoy this. Some of htem ave made it clear they have had to put aside personal views in order to establish regulations for the site, in the best interest of! the site. Just because there's a hard-fast rule against it here does not mean your whole life is going to be dictated by these policies. Anything else you do off the forum is your affair unless such business has a way of making its way around to the forum, malicious affairs between community members etc. I should hope that would go without saying, but what do I know.

@Deathstar: For the same reason you can ask PunBB why there isn't a bulk erase function.Given the fact that you have to confirm twice every time you delete a thread or post, something like that would be incredibly time-consuming. Besides, I don't think the moderators have removing history as an item on the list, unless a post was truly damning/potential repercussions amounted from reading it, and even then they are content with simply editing the post to reflect that. That way users do not have to second-guess what happened, whereas mass deletes could confuse people with legitimate questions, and even potentially remove actual information that is not associated with rule violations.

Re: Registering Kurzweil 1000 version 14.14

The trial is separate, I believe, because only the disk includes the American Heritage dictionary wave files. Those could not be included in the trial for licensing restrictions. The most guaranteed legal way to do this would be to contact Kurzweil and see if they can mail you another disk. However, since you already have a license, I don't suppose uploading the cd rom media would be illegal considering you're still supplying your own license number. For everyone else's sake, the serial number is not tied to the CD Rom the way Window Eyes was, so if he got the disk image from another source he would still be registering his own copy.

Re: Is it possible for me to speak with someone's else voice?

@Grif: I can appreciate standing up for someone, but this isn't a matter of that. When using an online service to generate a speech synthesis engine of a voice, one that specifically syas for your own use only, then you don't use another one's voice. Plain and simple. If they want their voice made they can make an account and do it themselves. As for the prank argument, seriously, you guys act as if there was absolutely nothing to do to prank people into saying stuff? Sounds to me like someone wants to take the easy way out, just record 30 or some sentences of someone talking, and then make them say whatever. When they could, if there is raw audio of them around, be creative and splice them. So, yeah. I can appreciate standing up for someone, but in this case, it's too much of an unusual request to just give this guy the benefit of the doubt on. You can't expect us to welcome the idea of using someone else's voice/likeness when it's a clear and present policy violation for almost all the services this guy is after.

Re: Is it possible for me to speak with someone's else voice?

@Jimmy69: STop. You're literally giving the benefit of the doubt to someone who is attempting to use an ai that is, kind of free for you the user, but has a lot of resources going into it for legitimate use cases, to use someone else's voice. The company specifically states that it should only be used for your own voice. End of story. If you want to prank someone, then go off of audio of them that's already out there, like what DJ Wonderbread (aka Liam) did masterfully on anyaudio. It'll sound funnier that way anyway. Even if someone gave you permission to use their voice, it that's like giving them the inside scoop on the prank and them giving you the parting wink on the way out. And if you don't have permission? Forget it!Know this. AI of this magnitude is not a toy. Unless you're the one doing the voice-processing on your own terms, you play by their rules, plain and simple. Where do you think the voice data goes? Into the server. For machine learning. You could probably just go and delete that voice, yes, but still. It's a fools errand if there ever was one. Don't do it. Just, don't.Also, fyi, a white hat hacker doesn't go around wearing a "hey, look at me, I'm a hacker" sign. A white hat hacker has a list of companies for whom they have done vulnarebility testing for, and usually keeps those vulnerabilities on a strictly need-to-know basis between themselves and the companies to whom they are reporting to.It's ok to not know everything. Seriously, it is. It is not ok to act like you know it all, or talk like you're something that you aren't.

Re: How to do drum sequencing in reaper

@black and white: Honestly I'd just get yourself a dedicated drum-kit software instrument. You'll have greater control that way, and much more meticulous sampling than a straight list of samples that aren't behind an engine. The more technical the instrument, the more the machinegun effect will start to show up (this is especially true of guitar libraries - hell, even the eastwest guitar library suffers from this and it's supposed to be top-tier, yet OrangeTree's engine is much better). The demo of Addictive Drums comes with a few sample drum-kits that you can use in your pojects. Step recording is a very good option if you want to program the pattern ahead of time.

Re: ways to earn some money?

@Lucas1853: As a general freelancing word of advice, you generally want to avoid those (its the internet, anyone can do it) services that take cuts and ultimately stand to unfairly benefit from your work. This is especially true of Fiver and their pricing structure. If you truly want to go off on your own, the best way is to get coaching/experience in the field you want to do freelance work for, like if you wanted to be a freelance audio producer/editor. You should definitely expect to start out doing free work, and honestly if you don't like the sound of that then you might want to re-evaluate. But the first thing you want to do is to get that list of references/recommendations/testimonials, because you'll want to put that on your websites, and then actually market yourself as a business. This is where being good at self-promotion really, really plays in your favor. Where it's ok to be that walking billboard as long as you are talking to, rather than talking at. Remember: experience in both your craft and in business management will always come before acquiring equipment. Realize that this route leaves no room for wishy-washy/hypothetical plans, because any (success in five minutes) call-center reassurance is just snakeoil marketing at best, and depending on the provider, may make you lose more before real gain. But the longterm benefits to ditching the service-platforms are huge, making it worth the (shouldn't be called extra) time and resources spent. As you can see, you are in charge of operations and how you get paid. More importantly, middlemen aren't thrown into the equation to skim as much profit as they can off of the workers and the clients.

Whatever api they're using, it would be nice to know why the big guys are apparently able to bypass the physical paperwork requirement but everyone else is left behind. Then again, the probably have a clearing house where they take care of printing off and mailing/faxing the forms. So it's still up to the IRS to make their own damn forms accessible.

@MyDearWatson: You miss the point. UWP apps are great, yes. But any app in the store, whether it's uwp or win32, has the same restrictions of not being able to get upclose and personal with the system. That's commonplace for any regulated app store.

Right now, there is the TAP network (possibly region-restricted) that offers several name-brand giftcards. I have approached them about their inaccessibility and they said they will work on labeling the links, as well as adding visa giftcards to the mix if hey can.

Percentage of the ad's per-click revenue gained. I have made $50 in the half year that I have used it, and it's growing especially after leaving the beta phase. Re: Nvda is in the windows store

@Brad and @Ogomez92: Not just for windows 10s users. I assume neither of you have dealt with a locked down, regulated corporate environment, where no one gets in or out that does not have legitimate business. If a business admin is a risk-taker and goes off of an honor system, if the line of work even allows for that, then they'll install the regular nvda or allow it to run portable no problem. Trust that people on't install malicious addons. If that is either not allowed or not possible, the n that's what the windows store version is for. Typically the businesses that are locked down at least allow store apps to be installed. IF this is how we get NVDA more or less accepted by the corporate world, this is the first step in doing so. I'd like them to include addon signing so that NVDA can actually make a regulated addon store, complete with a review team, but that's a long way off. We still have the problem of not being able to install addons that could be very much needed for applications in the workplace, which is why there are still inhouse JAWS scripts. But if we can have a carefully vetted addons section with addons that are signed and checked server-side before installation, then maybe there can be be the same locked down version of NVDA with addon previsioning.

Don't underestimate the technical prowess of a few kids playing around, hell this seems harmless compared to some of the shit I've heard - there are people a few years younger than me who are using Cali Linux strictly because of its being identified as a hackers OS (it's Linux, any Linux can be if you want it to) but Cali Linux is aimed at that demographic. THere are people who are child prodigies of technology, and while this is definitely not a super complicated project, it definitely goes a little beyond simple weekend practice project territory.@Boy: You two would certainly not get sued but unless you replaced the Byron voice with your own or something else I wouldn't go releasing this anyway if I were you. If the sound was ripped out of the game, then that's a problem. If it isn't or was a parody made with either your own voice or someone else's, then it's probably ok. As for messing with Windows, you weren't actually distributing a recompiled windows image, so you're probably off the hook in that department as well, the bigger thing to be concerned about are the assets.

And as an IT professional they should know more than anyone that that information is highly relevant when qualifying the perspective for a review, not to mention the fact that home internet is just not going to cut it. Could they handle their app better, sure, maybe. But their support was doing the best they could. Plus, there is literally no other company better. Honestly the reviewer's strategy of having multiple backup locations should go without saying, sadly it's too many people trusting one single backup solution that make reviews like this necessary in the first place. Re: A little information about Backblaze

Even though this review may very well be valid, one of the things this reviewer fails to mention is his network speed. Even an IT professional is subject to the limitations of unpredictable residential internet unless they are smart enough to jury-rig a business wifi plan into their homes (can be done). So of course uploading 6tb of data over a bad plan is just asking for things to go wrong, though it is certainly better than not backing up at all and it is smart that he had multiple backups in offline locations. One of the major mistakes that Bitcasa made is that they pretty much begged for user trust by allowing people to send their old hard drives in for recycling, because they were so sure that they were the ultimate infinite storage platform. And look what happened to them. The point of any backup provider is not to put all your eggs in one basket. You still need to backup your backups and backup the backups of your backups.

If he can't start an individual website then have someone else run it. HIMS and GW Micro worked together from 2006 to 2011 in getting the products an established U.S. customer base, so I don't see why that can't be done for this product that, in my opinion, deserves our time just as much.

Re: Victor reader Stream sucks after all

@NevEd: I think even FS knows that JAWS is a dying breed in the consumer sector at least. That's why they're trying to branch out and get JAWS or derivative works of JAWS in other applications, such as JAWS Keyosc and the like. Once Windows 10 Arm hits, a lot of x86/64 applications will be dying out, some can certainly be redone when x86/64 emulation hits, but a screen reader would most definitely not fall under that category. Knowing how ancient the main codebase for the screen-reader is it would need a complete rewrite, and the team honestly is not up for that when they know they have a lot more to compete with than they did before. They might've thought they could dismiss NVDA as two guys in a garage, but they know it's kind of hard not to admit that Narrator is a pretty tough competition, and that it actually does indeed fit the bill for many users. Granted, so does NVDA, but it's harder to dismiss MS's efforts than it would be to turn a blind eye to open source.

Re: Commentary Screenreader now contains something like a rotor in iOS

Whether the site works or not, it's clear that this company needs a massive professional effort the likes of what GW Micro did for Hims to actually bring the products to an American audience. The developer does not speak a word of English yet Nuno is doing all the work. He does not need to be the only one translating an entire manual, handling the communication channel - it's no wonder he doesn't want to do a website. If we want this screen reader to gain more of an English customer-base then he needs to let us come together and help. It can't be just one or two people having to handle it all. There needs to be support and training too, not just distribution on an as-is basis, and this is even more important for a commercial product. One of Android's benefits has always been screen-reader choice. But give us a reason to choose this over Talkback if it's just barely able to handle an English translation, never mind that NVDA, an open source project mind you, is getting numerous translations, and even offers phone support now. Sorry, but until this actually gets a proper English distribution channel it's going to be rather difficult to convince people that this is what they want. Nocturnus has a very good point there is a bit of resistance from the VI community, but for all of Nuno's good work to handle the English distribution and communication channels, the lead developer is showing a complete lack of professionalism by not hiring more staff or allowing a company or collective full distribution rights such is what HIms arranged with GW Micro.

Re: Commentary Screenreader now contains something like a rotor in iOS

@nidza07: ID generation always depends on factors, but I agree they could do different than hardware-based information. There's always the name-key system which usually encrypts your name within a constant, but I really think fido2/u2f might be more full-proof. Besides, fido2/u2f is embarrassingly uncommon, and it's because no one wants to be bothered to spend a little more for security - it's painful to have bought a good product only for it to be used with, what, 4 sites, none of which are Paypal and Paypal is even part of the god-damn fido alliance mind you! But I digress.

Re: Commentary Screenreader now contains something like a rotor in iOS

@nidza07: Mobile Speak used this same thing for licensing before they switched to phone number licensing. What else are they supposed to do if the app isn't in the play store - other than deploy their own server and use u2f. That sounds like a better approach, but the general public doesn't care to spend an extra $20 on a security key. Right now, it's no different than a program generating license info based on your cpu, motherboard, video card, and other hardware information of your windows machine.

Re: Victor reader Stream sucks after all

While I agree with the sentiments given that HUmanware doesn't always make good on their promises, I do have to also second the points people have made that there are other forces at bay here. Here's one way they could lower the price, ditch Audible. But I know that people were shitting bricks and going hysterical when Audible tried to ditch HUmanware, and rightfully so considering they were forcing their drm even more so. But now who the hell knows how much Audible is taking out of Humanware's funds as far as royalties are concerned. And then there's acapela. For the love of all that's good they need to stop forcing high quality voices on us. I forget how much the yearly royalties for the Acapela sdk are but they are by no means cheap. When Pico was the default voice for Android, people had no problem buying Loquendo and Svox voices. Humanware could do the same thing, just sell Acapela. I would be totally content with a Stream that defaulted to free, open source speech. Then there's the GPS factor in the Trek's case. They didn't just pay for the maps and be done with it, they had to pay for a license from TomTom to actually go in and modify them, which Humanware does to make them more blind/pedestrian friendly. Once open street map surpasses the big map conglomerates, we may be able to get the price down drastically in commercial GPS solutions, look at nearby eplorer becoming free as a prime example. Open source specifications are really the way to go if the prices are to go down on these products. And until a remote control gets released that enables use of a victor reader soft app on mobile with the same controls, the phone apps simply can't compare. No matter what, no one's taking away those physical buttons. Lol.

Re: Is it possible to get only FS reader?

In fairness, I blame Windows phone 7 for the PacMate becoming a flop. It was actually a great concept especially considering it was modular, contrary to the horrificness that is the lbraille. Windows Phone 7 was a practical death sentence to all the work that went into Windows Mobile/CE accessibility. MS opted to support Windows Mobile 6.5 up until a version of Windows Phone came out with accessibility (one did eventually) but that meant that it didn't make sense to sync more resources into the platform until Windows Phone added accessibility. Then again, there was a lot of corporate infighting at the time of Windows Phone 7 and the even bigger embarrassment the Microsoft kin, the not-so-smartphone that only lasted 48 days, so MS was already having one bad moment after another in the phone department.

Re: Best Chrome Box for keeping up with Chrome OS

@MyDearWatson: If you are talking about Fide OS, I was always suspicious of that package. It somehow did get the Google Play package, but who's to say if that extra telemetry can be disabled fully. It looks legal/legit considering it is China's Chrome OS distribution of choice, but still, lots of questions.

Re: Is it possible to get only FS reader?

@DJEPIC: They actually used to sell it separately for Windows and PacMate. JAWS versions 6 through 10 only shipped it as a demo that could only play books created or watermarked by Freedom Scientific. As for whether or not you can keep it around after uninstalling JAWS, from my experience you can't, but perhaps try uninstalling without removing shared components and see if that helps.
