Re: what a broken apple If you hit restore, it will erase then install the latest version of ios.If you hit update, it will update without erasing your phone.I had something similar happen to me with this latest update, which is why I haven't embraced the cloud and still keep my backups in iTunes.Plus, I found restoring from the cloud, while convenient, doesn't restore your voiceover settings, you'll have to switch to the voice you prefer, then you have to re-add all the items you had in your rotor from scratch.If you restore from iTunes, you don't need to worry about any of that, because they carry across.I have no idea why cloud backups don't save those settings.Your cloud backup should be fine as long as it's from an earlier version of ios, it's when you're playing with beta versions where things get tricky. Re: kodi guide I stopped using the piracy addons because I refuse to pay extra just so I can have access to their content.If I'm going to do that, then I may as well just pay for Netflix or disney plus, which is what I'm doing anyway.I'm using addons to access Netflix and disney plus.They're not official, but you do need to have accounts with those services.There's even addons for a few of the Aussie streaming services.Kodi doesn't have to be used for pirated content, which no doubt, is what a majority of people use it for, but I stopped using it for piracy, because I got tired of running into dead links.I know there are services you can pay for to get reliable links, but like I said above, what's the point when you may as well just pay for a legit service.You can actually change the speech settings in kodi by hitting F6.F12 will toggle the screen reader on and off.It's these little things the guide doesn't tell you that are usefull.I know about them because the author of the addon mentioned them on the thread for the screen reader quite some time ago.There's nothing wrong with the guide, they must have added an extra service because it is now down arrow 10 times on windows when it use to be 9.I wrote a similar guide on the official kodi screen reader thread on their forums, probably some time last year, so it'll be a few pages back in that thread, and the person at the time was able to get up and running right away.I really don't know why some people have issues getting things up and running, everything works fine at this end.Anyway, I think I've rambled on enough. Depends on whether I think it's worth the subscription.Apple seems to be encouraging developers to adopt the subscription model, but it really depends on the app.Subscribing to use a keyboard app such as flicktype may give the developer revenue, but there isn't much you can do with a keyboard app apart from maintain it when something breaks.I hear gold wave is in beta on iOS, we're not sure if that will have a subscription model like the windows version or if it's going to be an outright purchase.I think this would depend on what an app has to offer.We're use to subscribing to streaming services, and now we have office 365 and I'm sure other apps are also doing the same.Swamp has a subscription to play online, and I know quite a few mainstream games have the same thing.A few final Fantasy games are online, so you are not only paying for play station plus about once a year, you're also paying for game subscriptions as well.At the end of the day, ask yourself, do I really need this?App developers need to make money somehow, a one time purchase will eventually dry up.What I find strange is when apps have the option of a one time purchase, or a subscription. Re: Facebook and Twitter Windows clients 8, thanks, I completely forgot about that one.But to be fair, I think that one was someone's attempt at maintaining Qwitter when the developer decided to call it quits.@12, m.facebook.com is the same site you would get if you were to log on with a touch screen device, so any threads get updated in real time, which doesn't happen with the m.basic.site.I use a combination of both, depending on what I want to do.It's easier to poke someone with the basic mobile site for instance than using the touch site.Reading nested comments is also easier on the touch site, because it just adds it to the thread, where as on the basic site, they're on a separate page.Messaging is also easier on the touch site, because they get updated when messages come in, you don't get sound however.If you want sound, messenger.com is probably what you would use, but I can't seem to figure out how to start a conversation on that site, replying to an existing conversation isn't a problem because it's almost like chatting on those old messenger clients. BTSync is now Resilio sync, so it should work, in theory.I'm using the latest version and it works reasonably well, once you get use to how the program works.It looks like a webpage with a few focus issues, but easy enough to deal with once you get use to using it.I don't know if it will work if you're using an older version, before they turned it into this webpage layout, because when I updated I didn't bother downgrading.I read somewhere keys made with a newer version won't work with the old version, that would most likely explain why a lot of people have issues with things not working at their end. I've experienced something similar lately with firefox where the download would just stop.Pressing enter on the file being downloaded however would resume the download, but sometimes it would keep stalling.I'm not sure how you would resume a download in chrome, because the download window is a bit different, but in firefox, it's just a list where you can arrow to the file that failed, press enter on it and for the most part, the download picks up where it left off. Re: creating text adventures I didn't think twine was accessible.The easiest program that I found to make text games was called adrift, no programming or scripting knowledge needed.I use to play a few games written in adrift, but I either got stuck or the author of the game stuffed something up and I couldn't continue, but they were, for the most part, pretty decent games.The only text game I play these days is one called Inheritance, and that's a work in progress.I think that one is written in twine, perfectly playable for us, but dunno if we, as blind people can make stuff with twine.It was brought up a few times on here in the past, and the replies were always the same, not accessible.For all I know, things may have changed since then and it is now accessible, but if it was, surely someone would have posted here and mentioned it. I use iTunes for most of my podcasts, so downloading all episodes within a feed is as easy as choosing download from the list.I have it set to the classic list view, which feels like a treeview and I can open up each podcast when I want to download individual episodes.I always keep the treeview closed because some podcast feeds can have quite a lot of episodes, so it just makes it easier to find what I'm looking for.The easiest way to download the lot is to keep the treeview closed, find the podcast you want all episodes for and hit download on the closed level.If anyone else can explain it better feel free, because I'm not sure if I can explain it better.Oh and as pointed out in a previous post, you can only download what's available in the feed.Some feeds don't have every single episode available, while others do, audio dramas, for the most part, do have their episodes all available in the feed. I think Narrator has surpassed system access for a few years now, plus, it will probably be going away at the end of the year.I'm not sure about their other services, but that one will definitely be going.I don't use a screen reader for the voice, even though voices play a big part in the screan reader.I also look at functionality, and narrator, while it doesn't have many voices I prefer, still isn't quite up to what I would use it for. Re: Jeff Rutkowski's Site is Down All star Wars films are described on iTunes here in Australia, and now we come to a rather interesting issue.Not all of them are described on Disney plus.Netflix will tell you that it's not up to them to provide the audio description, it's up to the studio.Paramount is starting to describe their older films, I've seen a few of them on my Netflix.Pirates of the Caribbean I can't speak for, but I'm sure I saw them listed as having AD on iTunes here, all 5 of them.Disney plus, I haven't checked.Transformers, haven't seen any of the films, I prefer the cartoons from the 80s myself, but that's just my preference.The Herbie films, I don't know if they're all described on disney plus or not, I know the first one is because I got curious and looked it up.Now small studios will probably not have their films described because they would have to get the funding somehow.If you ever stick around to the end of the credits, you'll hear this audio description was funded by, incert studio and described by, disney uses delux to do most, if not all of their describing.Now, as for why disney doesn't have all their star wars films described, even though they're out there, well I'd love to ask them that question if I knew how to contact them.All they have is a feedback form that you can fill out in the app.They're not like Netflix where you can actually talk to someone.Netflix will try to get something described if you ask them to.If it's for something they're licensing and the studio has an audio described track available they may be able to acquire it at no extra cost on their license.The first three Durassic park films were described on Netflix here when they were available.So yes, I have seen older films with a described track on legal streaming services here.Sometimes it pays to take a look at the audio option when these streaming services add a new title, you might just get lucky.
