I would actually fix a few errors, but no, the translation is far from horrible. You did a great job and gave us access to a very awesome screen reader, and translating such a complex peace of software alone is never easy.

Well, one of my biggest complaints with the screen reader was finally resolved. You don't need to join any Telegram groups to get it, since the developer decided to post future releases to his GitHub. The direct download for the latest version, released on 26th of october is:https://github.com/nirenr/jieshuo/relea … 201026.apkNote that this is the international version, meaning without any of the options useful only if you speak Chinese.

Re: Media Players that Read Subtitles, and a Legal Way to Download Anime

Well, it does not necessarily have to be free. However, I am not aware of any way to download episodes even if you are paying. For a good media player though, pot Player is able to read subtitles, and can do it through your screen reader as well, the only problem is you will need the actual file with subtitles and can't just do it directly through the video. Lion does, though using OCR, and I have no idea how accurate or effective this will be as I have not tried.

Since I don't have an Android 11 device yet, which should change in the very near future, I can't address that but I am wondering the same. Though in iOS for example, assigning 3 fingers to scrolling also makes it work in the case of swipe down to refresh, so maybe same is the case on Android and you just have to choose something you will use for scrolling.

Re: should i get an i phone or an android.

Sure thing. As long as you are up to date, first you go to Commentary's settings,/ action settings / custom gesture settings. There if you scroll all the way past the standard swipe gestures, you will see the multy finger ones which say Android 11 or later  required. Note that at this point  they aren't very well translated as far as I noticed.. Before being able to use them though, I think that inside actions settings, you first must go to other settings and enable the checkbox which says use multy finger gestures.

Re: skype is a bit strange

While it's true there are keyboard shortcuts, that's kind of not the point. When you have a back button in  a conversation, then you are able to close an opened chat and not be in any conversation. If not however, each time you open a chat, you have no way of closing it and going back to home, if you can call it that. Let's say, the equivalent of pressing Ctrl plus W in classic Skype to close a conversation. The back button does indeed appear only when the app is minimised. If you want to prevent the issue of lag when switching conversations, you must use the split view, which will keep chats  in separate windows, allowing you to close and open them as you wish with alt f4, but also won't lag when a chat is opened.

Just like the headphones jack, it will be a big deal for a few months, then everybody will be quiet and suddenly it's a new standard. Hopefully other manufacturers won't be doing that. Somebody here was joking and said what's next, a phone without the box and you have to pay more if you want a box?About new phones, I didn't find anything fascinating or groundbreaking, but I rarely do with IPhones.  I will be ubgrading next year, though will most likely get an 11, since the primary reason of my ubgrading is the Voiceover screen recognition and I don't have anything interesting I could gain from the 12 models.

The app Ironcross posted is what I have been using. Generally I prefer an app over an addon that could potentially become incompatible more often, though the addon has an advantage that it will still allow you to use the standbye feature of your speakers, just with the time limit you configure from inside it's settings, unlike Silenzio which completely disables it.

Hello, even before 14.2 is released, if you have already updated, and don't use the Voiceover activities feature, try going to Voiceover settings / activities. In there, delete all the activities present, by default only programming. You can delete using custom actions. This eliminated the lag for me with the default voice. The Safari focus bug is indeed annoying, though definitely seems to be gone in 14.2.

Expanding on that, in 4.3 it was also possible to add custom labels to unlabeled elements. As far as I remember, in 5.0 the web views were largely improved. They are still annoying to deal with, but better overall. Then I don't remember getting anything significant until 8.0, which was probably the best accessibility release. We got a better accessibility shortcut that uses volume keys, a Talkback specific accessibility volume, the first implementations of automatic language detection as well as general performance improvements.

Probably some component somewhere in the Windows folder got unregistered, and since Windows is stupid like that I don't know of an easy way to fix this. NVDA has an option called COM registration fixing tool under it's tools menu, try running that and seeing if it helps. If not, using the command prompt try typing sfc /scannow command to scan any system files and see if it reports any issues. If it was me, I'd just reinstall the system, but I know this is far from an optimal solution for everybody. Plus, I had this once on a new Windows install that just received an update which broke screen reader virtual buffers somehow, which was very annoying.

Hello,I believe rather than activating continuous reading in this way, you have to assign  a braille display command to start and stop auto advance, then it should follow the 5 seconds duration you configured. To do so, go to Voiceover settings, braille, your display, then more info. Then you should find braille commands. There you should be able to configure it. I have no tried doing this for a long time though, so it is possible this is now move to Voiceover settings, commands, but  I  think  you'll be able to figure it out.

As I said in my post, I do use it, it's a lot better to go to bitwarden.com on whatever PC you want to access your passwords than bring some program  with you, but on my primary  I will probably sinchronise it with KeePass and use that.

Re: Wow

Well, now for a more serious reply which isn't joking about the topic title I am actually happily using a password manager, and for the most part things are perfectly fine. If anything, it has made logging in a lot easier, for the reasons Mayana already very well pointed out. It gets even easier with autofill on mobile, where all you have to do is use touch ID or Face ID depending on your phone, or a fingerprint in case of Android and you are in. My only annoyance is when setting up a device, a phone after factory reset, Windows after it has been reinstalled and so on. There is no easier way I know of to log in to an account other  than opening the app on another device and going letter by letter to type a super long password. If you by mistake make a typo, then it's all over again. I'm considering using my own passwords instead of random ones, but that sort of beats the point of a password manager. Other than that, all is perfectly fine and in many cases, even faster than typing a password.KeePass is a great app for Windows, though I do admit back when I used it I did not find a good free iOS app that does not require me to manually sinc the database or copy paste passwords. Bitwarden does this by default, but I will still most  likely use Bitwarden on mobile and KeePass on a PC, simply because Bitwarden still lacks any  auto type functionality on Windows and the app does open comparatively slower on my system than KeePass. This isn't hard since in both managers you can easily import a database from one another, so the sinchronisation is not going to be too hard. Both are quite good.

Re: Calliope version 3.0, more than just a media player

You can do two things. First, and probably easier, use your screen reader's mouse commands to perform a right click.  With NVDA, for example, that would be focus an object, then press NVDA plus numpad divide to move the mouse to an option you want, and then numpad multiply to right click that option. Second is to use a program called Sharp keys which will allow you to map some other key that you don't use as the applications key.

Yeah, nevermind  my previous comments. Today I wanted to play around with Bluestacks again, and even what was possible with OCR is now completely broken. Well, not broken, but 10 times harder to do. However, even sighted people are complaining about it, as the entire settings app has apparently been removed so it is now impossible to configure things, including enabling Talkback. They are now primarily focused on running games and nothing else. The only thing about Bluestacks I can recommend is running an old version that isn't broken, though  you will be stuck on Android 5, so probably a virtual machine is the best option nowadays.

There might be, but I never did it that way. You don't need to run the Google play website in your browser, rather the play store app in the emulator itself. I found it pointless to do so from my browser since I'm on the PC anyway, it's a lot more useful when you do that for a real device.

Well, you can enable Talkback fully using OCR, I did that a few months ago. You really should not need volume keys to toggle Talkback on an emulator, I don't see a good  usecase for that. If you are thinking of self voicing audiogames, you anyway can't play them since you don't have any touch screen gestures and rely on keyboard commands.

There is no lazyness from Samsung, rather Talkback is getting on the boat of implementing multy finger gestures, finally. Not the first or the last thing Samsung convinced Google to implement. Dark screen, better accessibility shortcut, all of those are Samsung inspired. Instead of thanking them for many accessibility revolutions in Android, we call them lazy. Oh yeah, they were also the first to implement face detection in their camera app, back when Google's gallery was completely unusable for Talkback users. Thanks  Samsung, it was great using the screen reader, hopefully Talkback learned a few lessons and will adapt many useful new features in Android 11.

Re: BrailleBack Now

Please don't give the argument you can fix it yourself, just don't. First, I don't receive any kind of compensation to do it, and let's face it, people who can fix source code of an Android app probably work on a full time job anyway and don't have a reason to fix something for a huge company which should just do it. What is the accessibility team paid for, waiting for people to fix their mistakes? Second  and more important, Google won't accept a single pull request on those open source projects, both Talkback and brailleback. I am lazy to look at the sources right now, but I am 99 percent sure that the code for Brailleback on GitHub is out of date and not even the latest version. It's just  there, it does not mean that you can submit patches to Google and fix things, many of which are wrong on a system level and need fixes in the Android itself. So before this makes you angry, go look at the Talkback code on GitHub, visit the closed pull requests section and see how nicely Google receives patches. We could not even get Talkback to properly be a part of AOSP so that it works on custom  roms, even though one of the developers of Lineage wanted to help us fix the bug that Talkback can't be enabled on their setup wizard, it's useless if we can't get any support from Google to do so. So, I don't want to imagine working on some huge patches to Talkback, submitting them, and being ignored or told sorry, we don't  accept pull requests here, goodbye. Thanks for nothing. I imagine there might be a slight brailleback exception, and you should be able to at least add a support for a new display since the readme talks about this, but who knows.

That's right, nothing, because you most likely don't even use braille with your phone. If you did, you would know it's as basic as it gets, and Narrator probably does it better on Windows at this point. No problem though, keep defending multy billion dollar companies, I am sure they need that. I will always admit when something sucks about iOS. Example? The volume management is far superior on Android, and I hate that I can't make Voiceover louder than the currently playing media. The problem is that the things Android does wrong are basics of a screen reader, and they include things such as completely garbage web support. No problem though, while we still can't use braille without speech on Android, Apple just gave you the option for auto advancing your display. Brailleback will get that, in a few years, decades...

Re: History of screen readers and speech synthesizers

Very informative. I agree that we could also have something similar for mobile phones. The first screen readers I used were for Simbian, Talks, Mobile speak and later Nokia screen reader. Then I switched to the modern options we have nowadays. Was there anything before Simbian? I assume no. I'm aware of the Windows mobile and Code factory's mobile speak for that system as well, though I never tried it. Similarly, I never used touchscreen versions of Simbian. I quite liked it back in the day, makes me wonder if some of the old podcasts people used to do for Code factory are still available. There was one in particular that compared touch screen version of Mobile speak to the very first versions of Voiceover on an IPhone 3GS. Even if all of that is quite outdated now, it's still a good piece of history.

You can't, that setting just controls whether iOS will charge the phone past 80 percent right away, or try to detect when you typically use your phone and finish charging then to preserve more battery health. That being said, either you  get updates for 5 years, which slow down eventually, 5 years is a long period for technology especially in 2020, or you switch to the other side, get updates for 3 years at most if you buy a flagship, and unless it's a Google device, get them months after they are released.

The first thing I thought of is literally automatic language detection slowing it down. Voiceover has a setting to disable the detection, so I tried this, and the lag is still there. Actually, even if you ubgrade, I highly doubt you will  be very affected by this. The lag is very minimal, probably not even a second before VO starts reading, as I said it's just something you notice is there. Obviously if you have a secondary device it's ideal to try the ubgrade on that one first, but personally I keep the default voice and it doesn't bother me at all since I also need language detection to work for Serbian cyrillic.

No. There is definitely lag, but it is not extreme at all. It's  just something you notice is there unlike 13. However, there is a very simple workaround. If you go to Voiceover's settings, and add your prefered voice as a secondary language in the rotor, then use that instead of the default voice, you will have no lag. No clue why it affects only the default voice.

Re: Might switch to Android

I would say just pick one, you can't go wrong. Both are very decent options, and if you are certain you want Android, both should be very useful. As someone already said, if you prefer updates, stock Android, go for Pixel. If you prefer the modified version by Samsung which incidentally also includes their own screen reader, go for that. Also, you could always go to a store, try out a device, maybe Samsung, and see how you like it. Listening to Android podcasts is also a good option, you can know what to expect. If you want a similar feel to iOS, Voice assistant on Samsung devices will give you that. If you don't care and are fine with Talkback's angular gestures, which are things like swipe up and then right in one motion to open the local context menu, Talkback is universally built in to almost any device that isn't Samsung. However, if you do go with Samsung, you can always install Talkback as well and switch between the two available screen readers easily. There is also the 3rd party alternative, Commentary screen reader, though you will figure that out later after you get a feel of the device and the default screen reader and whether it is fine and suits your needs.

I've always had that issue with adding. Go to browse mode with NVDA plus space, then  you can arrow through that dialog and check whoever you want to add, then shift b to the add button. In focus mode it was never accessible for me.

Re: How do ads look on Windows 10?

I don't  even think this is on your screen. The setting previous poster mentioned is related to automatically changing wallpapers on the lock screen, not any kind of store ads. I remember Windows 10 used to have ads in file explorer, but I am not sure if this is still the case. Even so, there is literally no reason for a screen reader to automatically read them unless you focus there.

Hello. This is another bug, not fixed in the latest update, so thanks Microsoft. To get around it, you must press alt to open the menu bar, then escape to exit it. Then Skype will work, until you hide it to the tray and bring it back up, then you have to do the same.

It would  take me 5 minutes to find out what is new in iOS accessibility, while I still don't know whether we do or don't have multy finger gestures with Talkback. It's important to note that soft braille keyboard and advanced braille keyboard are apps that allow you to type braille on screen. The original poster is asking about braille display support on Android.Quite honestly, if you depend on a braille display, don't waste your time. Braille back just sucks. You can't use it without Talkback, and even if you do use it with Talkback, you can't turn the speech off to independently use braille. This isn't the only problem though, many commands are inconsistent, most notably when scrolling lists, and some are just completely unavailable making it impossible to use all Talkback features. It largely depends on the display itself, but nobody told me they had a great time using their display on Android.

Re: comparing screen readers on Windows 10touch devices, your experiences?

Afrim, I'm curious, did you use it on Windows  8 or 10? Nowadays, Narrator probably has the best touch screen support. Not only this, but if you want something like a rotor in NVDA, check out the enhanced touch gestures addon found at https://addons.nvda-project.org/addons/ … es.en.htmlthis will allow you to do many things, and the description should be helpful to get you started. Besides, NVDA also natively now allows you  to select the touch typing mode, similar to iOS. So, I would say all 3 screen readers have good enough support for basic tasks. Jaws is the one I didn't extensively test, but I am sure it works fine.

Wow, yeah you guys on the Android side certainly get a better experience, though I can't say you can do a lot. Of the special keys, I could see only Windows, Ctrl, shift and alt, so the most important thing for us which would be tab is missing, or I just didn't find it. I also don't see how you would move by arrow keys. Still, the app is definitely better. The interface is almost the same, but once you connect on iOS, you are in some inaccessible view, and to disconnect I always close the app from the app switcher, while on Android you can perfectly see the close session button as well as interact with the keyboard.

Are you using NVDA? if so, press NVDA plus space to go to browse mode. Usually this should be automatic, but if the app renames it's executable, which Microsoft often does for some reason, the NVDA app module doing this will fail to activate so you have to do it manually. You may also be able to press f7 while in a message to enable caret browsing, which might allow you to read message with the arrow keys. You should need to do this only once.

Re: Talking mack/ios emulators for windows?

Well, I can't really say anything useful to you Meatbag. If your conclusion is that I don't know anything about Android, maybe you should read my posts a few more times. I have used an Android phone as my primary device for about 5 years. Not only that, I did not say Android sucks, I want it to go away. I have a secondary Android device to stay up to date with Talkback, and I will continue to do so, and hopefully one day see major improvements. It's funny that the things the majority seems to hate about Android, I actually like. Circular menus for example are a great thing, and allow you to perform actions a  lot quicker than in a list, so I have always used them  in  this stile. I don't even mind the angle gestures at all, and I actually wish Voiceover had them as then I could add even more commands. Another thing Talkback does extremely well is volume management, though this if your device is at least Android 8. I like having separate screen reader volume I can adjust. To conclude, I will only send a nice blog post talking about Voiceover and Talkback, the majority of which I agree with. It's a little out of date, though most things still apply, other than the fact Talkback does now have a braille keyboard. It is on Applevis, though I feel that the writer did a great job of balancing it and it's not one of those Android sucks posts. The things mentioned are my major problems with Android's accessibility. You can read it at https://www.applevis.com/blog/voiceover … other-side

Re: Talking mack/ios emulators for windows?

No, I can survive without a magic tap, that isn't an issue. I am perfectly aware that talkback lets you define your own gestures, in fact I am sure that is where VO's inspiration for that feature came.Except, you can define I don't know, maybe 20 commands. If you take a look at Voiceover's settings, you will see various options from moving to next and previous heading, button, link, anything that's  available from a keyboard, to going back, home, app switcher, and much, much more. I recommend just going through the list with both screen readers, you will certainly see the difference.Yes, Talkback does have a languages menu. Not only is it hidden behind Google's stupid contextual menus, it is also still very problematic, because this languages menu will list only the languages for the current TTS. So if you want, let's say to switch from Google TTS to your configured Spanish Eloquence, good luck, because that's not really possible. Granted, this was a dumb example since Spanish has Google TTS, but Serbian certainly doesn't.As for the headings navigation, not only is it not as fast as the rotor, I don't even use the rotor anymore for this. I have assigned 3 finger swipes left and right to go to previous and next heading, so with  one swipe, boom, the focus goes there, which is just as good as pressing H on a keyboard. I don't need to swipe around any menu to choose headings, it is just there. This about turning speech off being a sensible choice, I don't even want to comment on that. Sorry, but that's stupid. So NVDA is dumb for having Insert plus s? Jaws for having insert space, s? No, rather this is a basic feature.Braille back is cool, except it's extremely out of date, and no, it can't be used independently of Talkback, you must have it on all the time. Not only on, but also speaking, thanks to Google's brilliant and sensible decision not to have a speech toggle. There, hope that addresses your points, and thanks for a good response. We can certainly constructively continue discussion this in another topic.BoBonus tip, check out Voiceover activities. That is an extra feature allowing you to have app specific settings, I am sure we won't be seeing this on Droid anytime soon, and in fact we should not. I'd love the basic things fixed first before we move to that.

Re: Talking mack/ios emulators for windows?

Um, worse does not mean not a viable option. Worse just means, worse, and the fact is that iOS is more accessible. If you want to proove me wrong, answer a few easy, basic screen reader questions. How do you use a braille display without speech? How do you turn Talkback's speech off without turning off the screen reader itself? How  do you navigate by headings on a web page with a single gesture?I could go into detail and mention how VO just performs miles better in every way, but there is no point. I don't hate Android, I have no reason to do so. As an operating system, if I was sighted, I'd switch to Android right away. Why would I buy overpriced phones if I can get something a lot cheaper? Because as it stands, the screen reader benefits make it worth it. In 2020, Talkback still does not have proper keyboard echo settings. Screen reader basic features are still not implemented. Talkback still can't switch languages with it's own gestures, you have to open settings to do that. Once Google stops being lazy, they will have years of work to do to catch up. When and if they do, I am surely back on Android, because I love operating systems that let you do what you want. I covered just some basics, we won't even go into advanced things that VO can now do like allowing you to assign a gesture to pretty much any function you want, giving you quick access to what you personally need. Now, for the question in the OP, actually while it is true that you can run Mac OS virtually, the experience won't ever be really good and in my opinion, it isn't really worth it. If you need IMessage so bad, why not buy an SE 2020, or even the first SE? They are cheaper, and should work for that one feature you need. This is why Apple as a company just sucks and why the only reason I use iOS is accessibility, anything Apple makes will be their own proprietary work that you can't use anywhere else just because, Apple.

When I find out how we can properly contact FS, not some generic support working from a script, I'll gladly spend 5, 15, 50 minutes explaining the issues. So, the fact you guys think nobody is trying to fix these issues is rather ignorant. Actually yes, nobody is trying, but nobody from the company. The community is doing their best.I'll admit that this is rather off topic, so this is as much as I will say on that.

Re: Some weird JAWS problems, any tips?

Whenever I am told how to get the attention of FS to get a valid reason why we can't have the annual licence, I'll gladly listen. Until then, take a few minutes to find a post where I praise NVDA because I am bashing Jaws and using the opportunity, then we can talk. In fact, if you  look carefully without assumptions, you will notice that I have not mentioned NVDA a single time in this topic, unlike Jaws defenders. In fact, I am not even bashing Jaws, rather the company, and the Jaws installer itself. Jaws as a screen reader is very powerful, and I have no single reason to hate it. FS though, another story.

Re: NVDA addon for automatically reading the clipboard?

That's really cool, finding 2 addons in 2 days I never knew even existed. However, is there an official place for this one? Just wondering in case  an update is needed in the future for NVDA compatibility.

Re: Some weird JAWS problems, any tips?

So, who is bitching here, except post 9? I mean, if you are tired of this, thankfully this is a forum, and if you don't like a discussion or aren't interested, there are countless other topics you could visit. Also, NFB asking FS to change something? That is my favorite joke of the day.Clearly you didn't listen to FS open line though, because if you did, you'd know that countless people asked them to make their annual licence available to other countries too, the responses were the same, we'll consider it, we are looking into it. Well, they are looking into it for years. If I could get Jaws for 90 dollars yearly, maybe I would also complain less.
