Re: Obtaining Audio Described Content Legally Here in Germany, Audio Description is very, very rare on Blurays or DVDs. Some of the newer Disney movies have the english AD included. But for TV-shows, there is nothing. Neither on TV, nor on Bluray, DVD or a digital release. We have a service called Greta. It is an App, that lets you download a file onto your phone, that contains the description of a movie. You would have to run the app paralel to the movie. Your phone "listens" to the movie, and starts the description, so it runs paralel to the movie. That works more or less precisely. I wish though, there would be a way to get to these files outside the app These descriptions are actually in german. As for Netflix, yes. It probably is the best chance, to get something described. Altough I wish, they would do all their descriptions at least also in english, and not only in the original language of the show or movie. I'd love, to have their animes described. Something else, that I really like about Netflix's descriptions is, that they are doing them in 5.1, and not just in plain stereo, like practically everyone else. I'd love to get my hands on the Game of Thrones Blurays, and have a AD track in 5.1, or even Dolby atmos, like the original Audiotrack of the show... Netflix in general is a very finicky app, since it was never possible, to get to the control elements when you started to play a show. That goes for Talkback at least... If you want something, that works out of the box, that is simple and easy to use, you should go for an Iphone. I did that, when I bought my first smart phone many years ago. It was an Iphone 5, and it worked very well. Today, I am using both, Android and IOS. At some point, when my current Iphone stops working, I plan to switch to Android completely. Mostly, because I don't want to pay Apple's rediculously high prices anymore. As for what is better than the other, well, I don't think, neither is really "better". Both systems have their advantages and their disadvantages. With IOS for example, you can always rely upon having updates on a regular basis for at least three years. While with Android that is kind of a different story. I have a moto G5. Motorola released an update to Android 8.1 Oreo last year. My phone hasn't gotten this update until now. So, a few weeks ago, I sat down, and updated it manually. It worked well, but it also required a lot of research and time. I understand, if not anyone wants to deal with things like that. On the other hand, with Android I can dictate text messages in different languages without having to change the keyboard. That's a feature, that I find very handy, and that I would like to see on IOS as well.But also, you won't have Seeing AI, Blindsquare or Microsoft Soundscape on Android. Surely, you could use Envision AI. But that App is not yet, where Seeing AI is. And I still haven't figured out, what would be a good navigation software for blind people on Android.Bottom line, both systems are usable. It just depends on how much time and efford you want to put in, to learn to use them. Re: Is Blind Square usable/accurate in Germany? It actually is pretty acurate. Sometimes more, sometimes less. I had occasions, where it lead me directly to the door of the building, that I needed. On other occasions, it just brought me close to my destination. I guess, it depends on your GPS acuracy. You can however, add favorites. That should help you a bit. There is not really a guarantee, that it will always be onehundred percent reliable. But, I guess, that goes for every navigation software, out there.You could also try, creating a US Apple-ID, and get Microsoft Soundscape. That seems to be more acurate, as far as I have heard. I really don't get, why Audible doesn't do anything about that. I mean, they are producing original Audioplays These days. And they are not abd, after all, I have heard so far. Why would they intentionally decrease the Quality of their products? Adding to that Comes the fact, that older stuff is encoded very sloppy. I bought a few Doctor Who audioplays a few years ago, and they were not even in Stereo. After several complaintsw to Audible, well, nothing happened. In some ways, the gestures make even more sense than on IOS.Unfortunately though, the Apps, that I use on a daily basis are not that accessible. For my music, I use Deezer. And Talkback doesn't read search results. And some buttons don't show up with Talkback.Also, the Apps for my server are somewhat difficult to work with. Another strange thing that I encountered is the screen keyboard, which sometimes appears to be very sluggish in response. Oh, and there is one thing, that I don't like with talkback, and that is the way, you copy and paste text. I wish, they would add a short gesture for that, like in Voice Assistant or Voiceover. You won't be able to play your DVD with it right away. But you can rip it into an MKV-File.Or, you can get a program called DVDFab Passkey. This will disable every kind of region block on any DVD or Bluray, and you will be able to play your DVD with your prefered software.I can also remember, that you could change the region of your DVD-Drive somewhere in the windows settings. But I wouldn't go for that, if I were you, because you can only change the region about three times, if I remember correctly.I am also not even sure, if that still works with Windows 10. I want to play with Android a bit and see, how usable, and accessible it is.At the moment, I am thinking about getting the Cubot Magic with Android 7.0.Now, someone told me yesterday, that Talkback has some problems running on Android 7. But that person wasn't sure, if it really was Android 7 or 8. Apparently, it keeps freezing, and you need sighted help to fix it.So, my question is, does someone here know anything about that? I guess, I can count myself lucky, that I was visiting a school for the blind, that was pretty progressive in it's ways. And I must admit, that I am glad, that I was at one of those schools. Today, things would be probably different. But in the early 90s, the technology just wasn't that well developed. Not everyone had their own Braille display. And imagine, you are sitting in a classroom with sighted people, and you have to take notes on your bulky, and very loud Braille typewriter...I think, it is ok, to be in one of those schools, at least for the first few years. Long enough for you, to learn propper reading, and how to get around with your cain propperly.Especially Darks post was, well, sort of disturbing. That really sounded more like a prison to me. In my school, they taught us to be independent. Of course there were rules. And there was enough stuff, that the staff was doing for us, simply for timely reasons. But through the years, we were taught, to do more and more stuff on our own.I guess, in the end, it all comes down to how good a school for the blind really is. You could be lucky, and get to one, were you really get prepared for your life, or you end up in one, where you lose all your independency. Re: Braille: A philosophy I use both, the speech of a screenreader and Braille. When I play games, especially muds, I use speech. It is just easier, and you can react quicker. When it comes to reading books however, I would always read them in Braille. For me, it is easier that way, to grab all the words, instead of having to listen to the voice of my screenreader for hours. Also, especially, when it comes to reading novels, it is much more fun, to read them on my own. A screenreader will never be able to deliver the right atmosphere, the writer had in mind. Most of my friends prefer, having their books read to htem by their screenreaders. That always amazed me, since I just can't imagine, how they can pay atention to the same, monotonous voice all the time.Of course, there are still propper audiobooks. And while the range of titles is already very, very big these days, not everything is available as an audiobook.I think, the biggest problem with Braille, beginning to lose it

To me, it always looked like, the writers wanted to recreate the atmosphere of Battlestar Galactica. The remake, not the show from the 80s. I mean yes, the show was maybe not the best Star Trek series. That is, and will probably forever be, DS9. But I sort of liked Enterprise. Especially in seasons 3 and 4, the show became quite entertaining. Voyager on the other hand is a good example for what you get, when you have a bunch of lazy writers. That show was full of oportunities. sadly, they were never used. I mean, Voyager had it's moments. But in general, it was the laziness of the authors, that made the show such a disappointment for the fans. At least, when it's about content from the US or the UK. If you don't mind the english language, I can recommend you getting Netflix. All their original shows are described, as well as some other shows.As for me, at the moment, I am watching "Arrow" season 3 and "The Flash" season 1. In general, I like all these superhero shows. Allthough I think, that they shouldn't have softened up the main character in "Arrow" so much. I also recently started the new Star Trek series and "The Orville". It's a bit sad, that this show feels in some ways more like Star Trek, than the new Star Trek show. And since the remote has actual keys to for example enter something into a searchfield, using it is sometimes even easier than the AppleTV. The Netflix app is accessible. It even Shows the Audio Description track. Unfortunately, apps like Youtube, Spotify and Deezer aren't usable yet. I think VLC would be usable. But for some reason, I am not able to log in to my Server on the FireTV. And for the rest, well, it always depends on what you want to do with it. And since Fire OS is based on Android, and you are not limited to one Appstore, the range of available apps is much, much greater than on the AppleTV. I wish Kodi would be accessible. For me that would be a reason to get rid of the AppleTV. Only to buy TV-Shows and movies in the US-Store. That's actually something I like about Apple. You can download your purchases onto your Computer. As for the new products, well, there was not much, that wasn't known before. I am not really interested in the IPhone anymore, since they removed the headphone jack. I watched it because of the AppleTV. And there was nothing ground breaking either. I mean, if you want 4k Support, you can get a FireTV. And they are much cheaper than the AppleTV. By the way. I mean, every other company, which sells Audioplays, offers it in 256 KB/s. And especially, when it comes to Audioble's AAX, that shouldn't be too much to ask. I found a few of the plays that I bought also on some other place. A place, where you can, well let's call it, just take the stuff. And that version had a much better quality then the version from Audible. And if I would work for Audible, I would feel sort of ashamed. LOL. In my opinion it is not ready yet to use on a daily basis, since, at the moment, it's a real battery drainer. But if MS can fix that, this app can be usefull. Of course I wouldn't scan personal documents with it. That's what I have a scanner for. I cannot say, if it is better then KNFB, since I don't have that app. I wish, there would be a trial version for KNFB. But when it comes to being present on the internet, we can't be conspicuous enough. Twitter, foursquare, and of course Facebook. I don't want to think about, how vulnerable we make ourselves by giving everything from us away so easily. So yes, I think humanity should be a bit more cautious with these things. I think, I will just explain to you, what I would like to do, and maybe someone here can tell me, if that is possible with Reaper.So, I have two audio files. Both were extracted from videos. One from a german video, and one from an english video. My plan is, to merge both files in one video. The problem now is, that I need to synchronize both audio files. In the beginning of the english file, there are two or three seconds of silence. In the beginning of the german file, there is only about half a second of silence.My question is, is it possible, to somehow synchronize these two files, so that Reaper takes away the exact number of seconds from the english file, so both will start at the exact same time?Also, is it possible, to speed up a file by duration? For example, if a file has a duration of 21 minutes, can I speed it up to a duration of 20 minutes?Thanks in advance. That might not be that bad, when it comes to using Safari, or checking the weather, or choosing a song or album to listen to. But it's very annoying, when you type a message, or type something in general. The disappointment is that, with the removal of the headphone jack, Apple took another step to lock people even deeper in their own, closed system. These Airpods are another proof of that. As a blind or visualy impaired person, it's even worse. Because, at least at the moment, Apple's Voiceover is the best screenreader for mobile phones. So, if someone wants to get a new phone, and is not willing to risk experiments with Android, he or she doesn't have a choice than to get an IPhone. Simply, because it's the only alternative. Now, I don't know, if Apple actually cares about their blind customers. But if they do, they probably added that to their calculations. They know, that they can do with us, what ever they want. We don't have a real alternative anyway. And that's why I hope, that Talkback will take some huge steps forward in the next few years. Because I am not planning to upgrade to an Iphone 7. I will use my IPhone SE, until it falls appart. Hopefully, we will have the luxury of a choice in a few years. Talkback was very slow, and very unresponsive. At that time, I tried it on a tablet.The second time, I tried it on a Samsung Galaxy. It was an older phone. I can't quite remember, which one. I am not really good with their phones. This time, it sort of worked. Though it took me almost ten minutes, to fix the voice Settings. Android, or maybe it was Talkback, felt very sluggish, in my opinion. I think, the phone was running Android 5. In case, there are People here, who switched from IOS to Android. Have you ever compared the accessibility of certain apps (Skype, Whatsapp, Twitter, etc), or any other apps? Could you generally say, that Apps, which are accessible on IOS, are accessible on Android as well? At least for me, that would make the decision to leave Apple much easier... That's especially noticeable, if you have a look at the new AppleTV. Voiceover works there, but it's not perfect. Removing the headphone jack was the biggest mistake, they could have ever made. There are a lot of people, who connect their phones through this to their stereo systems, to listen to music. Normally, you could just connect the phone, plug your charger in, and that's it. Now, this is impossible. And I really don't see the inovation here. The only thing I see is, that Apple found a new way of binding their customers even more to themselves. Now, you can't just buy any headset anymore. Now, you have to buy the expensive crap from Apple.Oh. And while I am talking about expensive crap. Are they serious with these Airpods? I mean, they only have a runtime of barely five hours. And again. They only work with Apple products. I have a bluetooth headset here, that has almost twice as much power. As you can see, I am pretty annoyed with Apple right now. And I really ho pe, that no one will buy this new phone. I hope, it will be a fail. But of course I know, that there will be many people, who will get this thing, simply because it's Apple. I can only hope, that my IPhone SE will still work for many, many years. And after that, well, I will have to look further into Android, I guess... First, I signed out of my german account. At that point, I was already able, to create my foreign Apple-ID, without being able to use it, because Apple wanted a valid payment method from me. However, after I switched the country in the ITunes store, I clicked on "Redeem". I think, you don't have to have a gift card at this point. When you click on "redeem", Apple will ask you to log in with your ID. And when you do that, you can choose between the different methods of payment, including none.I am not sure, if you have to fill in a gift card code at this point, but if I remember correctly you don't. Apple won't check that. As for the currency, no, you can't use giftcards from the US. You have to buy UK-Giftcards. Or maybe you can use european giftcards too. I am not sure, how it works in that case. I only bought cards from the US, so far. But I am sure, google will help with that too. By the way. You don't need to worry about signing in with your ID, while your ITunes is switched to another country. By signing in with your ID, it will switch back to the US-store automaticaly. Re: Obtaining audio books that are not in my country Another alternative might be, to create an Apple-ID for the needed country. As far as I know, ITunes has the same range of audiobooks as Audible. The stuff there is a bit expensive though. And yu would have to deal with the DRM on these books. If you want to stick with Audible, maybe visiting the website through a proxy server would be a third possibility. I'm not sure though, how hard Audible is with these kind of things. If you can't get the books any other way, I would suggest, trying to create an apple-ID for the specific country. I live in germany and have a german, and a US-ID, which I use with US-Giftcards. It took me a while to set it up. But now, it works fine. I am not a huge fan of DRM. And I always remove it from the books, I buy from Audible. But I wasn't able to do it with the files from apple music. Would be nice to know, if it is actualy possible... As far as I know, they are planning to release an IPhone 6C. Depending on it's Features, I will decide, if I will get a 6C or a 6S. If they are really removing the headphone port, this will probably be my last IPhone. I guess, it's time, to pay a bit more Attention to Android. You just need to disable the verification feature in Firefox.To do this, just enter "about:config" into you adress field (without the quotes of course).There should be a button that says something like: "I will be careful". Click on that, and you will be directed to a page, where you can modify a lot of settings in Firefox.You will be presented with a huge table layout. If you use NVDA, I recommend you to use the reading mode (NVDA plus space) to go through the settings. You need to find a button called "xpinstall.signatures.required". Set it to false by pressing enter. After that, you can close the window. When you start Firefox again, Webvisum should work again. I just did it, and it works fine for me. Kodi on the new Apple TV Hello guys!As some of you might know, Apple has released the new Apple TV 4 recently. The new Set-Top-Box Comes with an Appstore now. There already are some useful apps available.A few days ago, a Long expected Version of Kodi was released too. For those of you, who are not familiar with it, Kodi, formerly known as XBMC, is a mediacenter. It lets you Play Videos and audiofiles and gives you the ability, to stream Pictures onto your TV. On the Computer, Kodi is available for a Long while now, and is well known for the huge amount of plugins, which are available for this program. On the app for the Apple TV, you are not able to install any plugins. Now, I don't know, how you see it. But I would love it, to have a way of accessing my media through one device without having to be at the Computer all the time. Unfortunately, this app called MRMC is not accessible yet. But sinse the app is still pretty new, and the Team of developers seems to be small , maybe we can talk to them, so they would make the app accessible.
