Re: converting a large number of eBooks, any recomendations?

I've been using ebook-convert for some time as well and it works quite well and reliably. Although you have to know how to write batchfiles. And as Ethin also stated, using bash in Unix like systems works the best in my opinion.

Re: How to SSH from a windows computer to a Rastbery pi

I myself use teraterm for that, but win 10 ssh client and putty work also very well. You can do many things with your pi, such as different electronics stuff and low powered home servers. I myself have experimented with the latter ones. I have two usb harddrives attached to it and OpenVPN installed, so I can access my files everywhere. I also used to run a web and icecast server on it.

Re: Is it worth the money to buy a Victor Reader Stream?

It depends how much money you have to spend. As I got it as an aid, I had to pay 45$ (that should be from 45 to 50 dollars, or something like that). For this price there was no hesitation for me. True, you can do the same things with an Android device, but having a dedicated device with physical buttons makes listening to books and podcasts much easier and distraction free. If I had to pay about 400 bucks, I probably might have made a different choice.Although bard content is not available in Estonia, I can still enjoy the local audiobooks in Daisy format, Audible content and different podcasts.

I can't say I spin them very often. Although quite often I buy cds from the merch stand at the gigs by different performers in order to support them. Sometimes I also ask an autograph on their album. Although I do not see their signatures, it is just cool to know I have them. But afterwards I rip them into my computer and on the shelf they usually go.

The username and password should be somewhere in the release notes. The default should be pi for the user and raspberry for the password. I use mine mainly for the nas, so I can just hook my usb harddrives to it and access it from the network. It also has openvpn installed, so I can access my stuff outside of my home network. Of course you can run a web server with it as well. I also tried to use it as a print server, so I didn't have to connect the printer to my laptop every time I wanted to print something, but it got some problems with the drivers, so I kind of gave up.

Heya!Haven't listened to the podcast yet, but I read from the playlist that Danimal Cannon was also played. After a couple of weeks when I got a chance to listen to my friend play with Teenage Engineering po20 arcade, a little chiptune synth, I discovered Danimal Cannon's stuff and it is really cool how he mixes distorted guitar with chiptune. As I also play the guitar, who knows, maybe I'm gonna order this little machine aswell. A couple of videos about it:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XyIpRmDdG2khttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t86PTcxJGiAIt is also very bliend friendly to use.And a couple of videos by Danimal Cannon:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SoWGZ-ONK78https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=

I used to use arch on my pi as well, but for some strange reason, samba ran much faster on raspbian. I think it was 4 mb versus 8 mb ps. But I am not sure about the numbers and the things have quite probably changed.By the way, there is the lite version of raspbian now as well, which should be much more minimalistic and shouldn't contain so much bloat.

I myself use my pi mainly as a file server. So I don't have to connect my usb harddrive every time to my laptop, but can access my stuff over the network instead. But of course you can use it as some other kind of server, as long as you don't need a lot of computing power. For example simple web, print or some other kind of server.I also use it for web crawling to automatically collect some specific information from the web.

This post might be a bit off topic, but as we are already discussing different English accents, here it goes.First of all I really do like Brian Johnsons accent. Hes the man who sings in AC/DC. When I googled his accent, I read from a forum that hes got the Jordy accent, but hopefully Dark can confirm or falsify it:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZl9CHPuzXkThen theres the rolling r thing. One of my favourit examples is Ramachandran. I guess one of the reasons is that this kind of r suits very well with this kind of huge voice:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rl2LwnaUA-kRegards

Re: music tech and gear discussion and reviews.

If you want to play the synths or keyboards with your guitar and chords arent important to you, you can buy Sonuus g2m (guitar to midi). Although you can play only one note at a time, you still can get leads or cool basslines with it. I got it for about 95 eur, which in dollars should be a bit more. A couple of videos about it:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fGHFtlt97whttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEb4sNVNCjQIm going to As it detects one note at a time, youve gotta have really clean playing technique and different picks can yeald different results. Im planning to order myself the Korg Volca bass in a month. which by the way can make quite nice lead sounds as well. Another option is to use a multieffect box either as the usb interface if it has that option or send its output to the soundcard. Nowadays they have quite decent amp and cabinet emulation so if you dont mind fiddling with the knobs, you can get quite good tones out of them. Of course these boxes can have some accessibility problems, so you have to try them and read the manuals to kno how usable they are.

Got it working last weekend. In win7 64 bit you have to enable driver test mode in order to get the bns emulation running. For images larger than 2,88 mb you can use mkisofs to create cd images of a directory.I also created a couple of batchfiles which ask the directory of which the image should be made of. The images are named floppy.flp and cd.iso, so you dont have to browse the images every time you want to mount them.If you want to start the speech every time you boot the system, edit autoexec.bat and add s in the end of the file. The only two problems I have is that I cannot access the asap control panel with alt+enter and I couldnt get the audio to work in dos games with sound, but otherwise it is really awesome!

An alternative to screen filter is an app called shades and it has a couple of advantages to me: First, you dont have to start it every time you power up/restart your phone. If I remember correctly, screen filter had this issue. Second thing is that my sighted friends have told me that with screen filter, although the text was dark, the screen was still lighted, with shades it should be completely dark. So it should be more battery friendly.

Re: music tech and gear discussion and reviews.

All right, I try to list my music gear.Instruments:My electric is Schecter hellraiser avenger. At first it had EMG pickups, but as I couldnt get so nice clean tones out of them, I got them changed to some Gibsons (I dont remember the exact name of them). Theres also coil tap installed, so I can get some nice single coil tones.Acoustic: Washburn wd15. Has quite a large dreadnaught sound and as I tune my guitars whole step lower, it suits me really well.lap steel: Peavey powerslide. Also quite a good change and in addition to playing it the standard way, you can also, thanks to the strap system, play it by standing.electric bass: Yamaha rbx180- Im not sure about the number though.Acoustic bass: Ibanez AEB10E I also have a Tenson strat copy, which is actually quite crappy instrument, but as it is my first electric, it stil holds a sentimental value for me.Mandolin: Vintage vfm500er.Small synth and dru
m machine: Korg monotribe2 didgeridoos and 8 jews harps.Amps:My tube amp is Laney lc15 - has quite a distinctive tone, but Im starting to grow tired of it.Micro amps: Roland Microcube, Marshall ms2 and Blackstar Fly 3. Got the latter one a couple of weeks ago and I really love it! You can check it out from the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oA02o_BThTcBass amp Hartke Kickback 15. I have recently quite rarely used it.Processors:My main processor is Digitech rp360xp. Is really cheap and has quite good tones inside. I usually run it straight to the mixer or soundcard. The knobs make a nice click when they are turned, so I know quite easily, where I am in the effects chain, so it is quite accessible. unfortunately the software is not. Before buying it I got myself Boss gt100. When reading the manual I got the impression that it is quite usable for the
blind. But when I received the unit, it turned out that none of the knobs clicked when turned. So I had no idea in which part of the effects chain (distortions, comps, amp simulations, modulations etc) I was at. And as the order of effects was quite different in different patches and you have to turn the knob just a tiny amount, it was a real pain to use. SO I returned it.I also have Vox Tonelab EX, but I dont use it any more, due to the fact that it is quite limited. But it gave me quite a good introduction to effect processors.stompboxes and pedals: The main two pedals I use besides the processor is Digitech Whammy and Jamman solo xt looper.Besides them I also have Rocktron Rampage distortion, Big muff, and a chorus/flanger, delay and wah from Ibanez.

@assault_freakHave you played the slide guitar? If yes, it isnt much different, the difference is that you put the lap steel in your lap, so the strings are facing the ceiling. I cannot find a better way to explain this. Reminds me that quite a lot of blind players tend to play the regular guitar at first like this, myself included. Dont really know why.Lap steel players usually tend to use a different kind of slide, so instead of putting the slide on your finger, they use the kind of bar you can hold between your fingers, so you get more controll over it. It also enables you to make behind the bar bends, meaning that you grab a string behind the bar with your pinky and ring finger and bend it. Makes a cool pedal steel type of sound.

Yeah, would be quite interesting!Reminds me a story a Norwegian guy told me: His schoolmate was from Trondheim and there was some kind of sport event going on and a part of it was long distance running. After this guy had finished, he stood for a while gasping and finally said: Jeg er klar!In standard Norwegian and Danish klar should mean ready, but in Trondheim dialect it means tired. The same guy told me, that du er rar means you are good looking in Swedish and if I remember correctly, in Danish as well. Although in Swedish I guess it is spelled differently. But in norwegian it means you are weird. So if a norwegian says it to a Swede or Dane, both of them are happy. LOLThere should be a list of this kind of words comparing Danish and Norwegian somewhere in the wikipedia. As an Estonian, whos native language is similar to Finnish, I really like these kind of words, which sound similar
in similar languages, but have completely different meaning. Linguists call them false friends.

I have studied Danish and Norwegian a little bit and I found it quite amazing that the vocabulary and writing systems are quite similar, but the pronunciations sound quite different. Although I have to say that Norwegian sounds easier to understand than Danish. The latter one sounds much more slurred, but somehow cooler as well. I once read the comparison of those languages from Wikipedia and there was written that it is sometimes jokingly said that Danes have easier time understanding drunk Norwegians and Norwegian sounds kind of childish because of the sing-song manner of speaking. But Ive also heard that some Norwegian dialects sound quite a lot like Danish.

Re: Free accessible Spyware remover?

I was quite frustrated as well, when I saw that theyve messed up the interface with malware bytes. Spybot works still quite well with NVDA.

Re: playing guitar, any tips?

Hi.Actually, some videos are quite accessible for us, where the person says, which frets on which strings to finger, but of course it is not always so.For viewing guitar pro tabs I discovered LunarTabs, which works quite well.http://code.google.com/p/lunartabspro/I think Kamochek actually ment intervals when mentioning terts (second), quart (fourth), quint (fifth). In Estonian they happen to be called similarly, but in english they use ordinal numbers like second, third and so on.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=177549#p177549

Re: eBooks And PDF

For some strange reason, adobe digital edditions doesnt show line breaks correctly to me, which is sometimes quite important, in order to read dialogues. Also, when reading line by line, it sometimes reads the same line twice. So I switched to epub reader for firefox.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=177330#p177330

Re: Accessible NAS?

Another link you should check out is www.raspberryvi.orgTheres an accessible arch image, and although I managed to mess up my speech somehow, I always access it from ssh, so its no big deal for me.Yes, I have ntfs-3g installed, the problem is it just doesnt seem to be as fast as ext4.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=176782#p176782

Re: Accessible NAS?

I myself made a nas from my Raspberry pi (a microcomputer) and usb harddrive. Works quite well, but ntfs under linux seams to be a bottleneck, and as the drive is quite full, I cannot format it into ext4 before I can get myself a new harddrive. Another reason might be that the samba server (the program, which makes the linux machines visible to windows computers) might need some tweaking. But in order to use that you have to know Linux command line, so this solution is definitely more difficult to set up and geeky.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=176559#p176559
