Cooking, hmm. In fact I actually did this a few years back. The issue I myself have stumbled on was the cooking system. If you really want to make it a simulation, you'd have to come up with a system that does this as much realistic as possible. Like handling measures eg, or how much you have to fry the meat slices for the Schnitzel. I did some basic cooking and baste of what I did experience, I'd say it'd be one hell of a job. Still, you could get by with some sort of arcade style, though I doubt if it's what you want. But please don't make it like STW where you put apple in your left hand and take the knife in the other and a key T tap would get you a  skinned_apple!
