Re: A question about sandboxy

@3, there are some major performance hits when running within sandboxy and running without, mainly to do with accessibility APIs. They vanish after apps have started, but when apps initially load accessibility APIs become extremely slow.

Re: A question about sandboxy

Hi there,@1: First of all, I'm assuming you're referring to Sandboxie, just recently opensourced sandboxing software for Windows. Just to be sure we're talking about the same program, your Sandboxie output seems that way.As for the first question, yes. Sandboxie by default works by allowing programs to read from your filesystem, and on the other side transferring their writes to a special location, C:\Sandbox or something similar, if I remember right. Of course, there is more happening behind the scene, but this is one of the most distinguishable processes, that protect your system from any damage, as all changes made to the system are virtual and visible only for program which made them, unless you configure it in other way.So if you launch an installer, it will do its job, just the changes will be virtual, visible only in the Sandbox. As for performance, !Sandboxie isn't a virtualization tool, but rather a progrram using various Windows api to restrict processes' rights. That is a very simplified description, but anyway, the performance hit shouldn't be any critical. There are some slowdowns of course compared to running without Sandbox, especially when the program modifies large files, which need to be moved into sandbox first, but you should be able to dayly use untrusted apps in it just fine.https://www.sandboxie.com/FrequentlyAskedQuestionsI have used Sandboxie myself, and I didn't notice any performance problems. May be if I run speed tests, there would be some slight differences against the normal state, but nothing really bad.As for the second question, this happened to me too. Try to quit Sandboxie and then run it as an administrator. In my case, the errors disappeared and I was able to use my sandboxes without problems.Best regardsRastislav

Re: A question about sandboxy

Yes, it does. And as forwhy your getting that, I believe you might've misconfigured the sandbox. (You really don't want to run things in the sandbox unless you know that they contain harmful code; apps ran in sandboxes tend to be incredibly slow.)
