To expand on what some others have talked about, try this blog post and definitely read the other linked articles as well.  Finding good info on AccessiBe is hard, and I found this to be very interesting.https://adrianroselli.com/2020/06/acces … -sued.html

Re: AccessiBe ADA Overlay Webservice

Maybe someday, but for now this is just an empty promise which could actually harm us, given that it's hard enough to get companies to accept that accessibility is an ongoing process in the first place.  What happens when an executive that knows nothing about the web accessibility market hears from these guys that their solution can for ever fix the blind problem for allot less money and time than human contractors?Eventually, sites that actually care will realize it isn't as good, but in general, it's going to potentially lose people jobs, and those people are already part of a group with a 69.1% unemployment rate.I'm sure this will be a useful idea in a decade (though human auditing will still be vital I think) and it's not like these are the only people doing this, but just like smart canes and street crossing AI, for now it's just a dangerous pipe dream.I talked to the accessiBE CEO at the sight tech global conference, and while there was very little time, I did manage to get an insight into his thinking.Basically, while he says he appreciates what testers do, that the current methods are just too slow.  We need results, and a mostly hands off continuous monitoring and fixing tool will get more companies on board, which means more results for end users.Take the feelings out of it and it does make sense.  I just don't know if I agree that he's fixing the right problem here.I don't think that human testers are necessarily too slow or hard to find, I think it's that they aren't listened too enough, they get hired to solve lots of individual issues rather than being full time employees for the most part, that their suggestions aren't acted on quickly enough (they get bogged down in bureaucracy), accessibility in general isn't taken seriously and isn't kept up to date when the program changes, and that the reason we don't have as many is simply because the field is hard to even find as an outsider, the definitions of jobs within it aren't consistent (accessibility consultant, access tester, quality assurance accessibility specialist ETC all mean what ever companies want them to), and it's nearly all contract work that comes in bits and pieces and often isn't easy to find listings for.I guess he's just abandoned the idea that the industry can be changed for the better in any significant way any time soon, so lets try another approach, and to be honest, I get that.  I just wish the product was better at it's job, but companies don't make money by being honest about their shortcomings early on.

Re: AccessiBe ADA Overlay Webservice

I'm in communication with several web accessibility testers who tell me that accessiby does pretty much nil for the websites that they tried using it on. I myself have encountered a few web sites with these accessibility overlays, and can report that they didn't seem to help or hinder the site's accessibility at all.

Seems like a band-aid solution to me. Web designers should be responsible for making things accessible. There's no excuse for not doing so these days.

I'm very skeptical about this company! This article is good to read. Many other web accessibility experts who know what they're talking about tend to generally agree.

h, interesting, really good info, man! Anyway, now I wander what the hell can AI do to make websites accessible? I wander how is this AI trained to recognise inaccessible elements? But as usual, only I am interested in such details, so ignore this post, rofl.

AccessiBe ADA Overlay Webservice

AccessiBe ADA Overlay Webservice

As reported by [techrunch]:It would seem a few companies have been pushing the grounds on web accessibility. One such company, AccessiBe, uses machine learning to put an overlay on top of an existing website to match and provide accessibility to a given website to help fill in its proverbial cracks. Examples of this can be found on sites like [Everlast], [Tupperware], and [Playmobil]. While not perfect it does seem to provide a potentially easier way for people to get accessibility up and running, or address previously inaccessible webdesign, however AccessiBe is also working on a user-centric version that could help in web navigation for users without having to rely on websites to comply or go with their service.
