Re: Another program I found that could be used for building design

Oh absolutely, 3D scanners could prove quite useful for sculpters or creating prints for materials and parts. I've looked a bit into them and there's a good article [here] that covers a few available scanners. The problem at the moment though seems to be that depending on the scanner, you tend to get a lot of artifacts like gaps in the mesh, distortions, and stray bits of mesh that often require touch ups and additional processing in a 3D modelling program before printing, a number of the apps seem to have their own touch up tools but they don't seem very accessible. How well did your scan turn out?@hammerSVGDraw01 runs for me, though I didn't get much into it or the documentation. It seems to use a menu based coordinate approach to drawing and has a display window for using programs like The vOICe. Hm, your problem cou
ld be an issue with Java, does it put out any particular error message when it crashes?

Re: Another program I found that could be used for building design

Actually, I already knew about the X Y Z axis, and I know that rotation on these is what we call roll, pitch and yaw when it comes to three-D movement in space, like in flight. However, I thought horizontal was simply left and right, forward and backward, while vertical was up and down.As far as accessible 3D modelling, what about using 3D scanners? I've used one to scan a picture of my face so I could 3D print it and use it as a basis for future reconstructive surgery, not that I would actually have plastic surgery, but something like that could definitely be handy.

Re: Another program I found that could be used for building design

Full 3D applications use 3 coordinates, or Axis, when determining an objects position in an open 3D space, X for horizontal, Y for vertical, and Z for depth. Typical 2D images use only 2 Axis, X and Y for determining a pixels position on the screen. In this case, Z refer's to the Depth axis which would make it a 3D application. At the moment there is no fully accessible 3D modeling program, although I have heard rumblings of some people working on it. There are a few possible options floating around such as some CAD software discussed [here], and maybe POVray3D which is a raytracer that uses scripting exclusively, although you'd need to use a sonifier or other tool to view the output. I've been meaning to look more into accessible 3D modeling CAD software myself but I'm kind of in the middle of a few projects at the moment.

Re: Another program I found that could be used for building design

What is Z Access? Also, I've been wondering if there were any accessible 3D building programmes for use with 3D printer. they could probably use an accessible GUI, like using audio cues and the mouse, or using command-line interface in this case, text-based editors that would convert it into an image.

Re: Another program I found that could be used for building design

I came across it awhile ago, it seems to share some similarities with TactileView in terms of its Vector Art approach. I believe you can contact the developer on its home page [here], although it was last updated some time in 2011.

Re: Another program I found that could be used for building design

I also grabbed a copy. I will be looking through the documentation to see what I can figure out. I'm always in the market for new and accessible drawing and modelling tools. Hopefully, one day,  I'll learn enough about all of this to create a fully fledged blind accessible video game engine. That's a little off topic. I did see an Email chain with the creator involved on the NFB mailing list. I don't know if he's still there or not, though.

Another program I found that could be used for building design

So who has heard of SVGDraw01 I have been looking at the program and It could be used  to create pictures of floor plans and pictures of what the place would look like in 3d but I have been looking through the documentation and it sounds promising. I don't know if the developor looks at this board on the forum but it would be interesting to add the z access.
