Big news CVAA legislation

The USA has stringent accessibility laws that cover anything to do with video or communications. The games industry currently has a waiver, which is due to expire in October. The ESA (USA games industry trade body) is requesting an extension to the waiver.

The waiver request covers games. Which is a good thing in my opinion, a blanket law saying that games must be blind-accessible would not do anyone any favours.

However it is only a partial waiver request, it doesn't cover anything other than games. The previous waiver also covered consoles, and distribution platforms (steam etc).

So come October, consoles and distribution platforms will be covered by USA accessibility laws, on the basis that lack of accessibility in them denies people with disabilities access to communication and video.

The FCC (USA government body responsible for the legislation and responsible for making a decision on the waiver request) is looking for public feedback, details here:
