Re: Bluesky, an awesome runner game

I know the conversation took place some 17 days ago, but I still think this needs to be mentioned.moderation:I would like to clear a couple things up here. Posting on behalf of a banned user, in most cases, can be considered a violation of rule 7rule 7 wrote:7. If you are banned from the forum, you may appeal it formally, but you may not attempt to get around it and access the forum by any means. This includes creating duplicate accounts; if we discover that you have done this, your original punishment's severity will increase.Relaying a message sent by a banned user, so they can get the narrative from their friends or VPNs, is getting around a ban. If you infringe upon the rules you agree to by being here, you deserve the applicable penalties. End of story.Posting a publicly available project, on the other hand, is treated differently. Anyone has the ability to find and send links around, and it would be unreasonable to ask them to go on a vexatious journey through the user list, just to make sure the author is in the clear. As Defender said, it would also create a random hole in conversation that we most certainly don't want. As a banned user, the developer will be entirely unable to communicate with his/her players. As far as I know, the game had already been publicly released at the time of this topic's creation, thus no permission was necessary though none was granted.Unfortunately, there isn't a foolproof way of verifying the safety of an executable, short of taking the time to decompile it and audit the code. Failing that, disassemble it and pour over the remnants. Even then you can't be more than speculatively confident. Given that the game is coded in BGT, I can't see disassembly being all that difficult to someone who knows what they're doing. I wouldn't be opposed to trying when I have a free moment. The license doesn't forbid it anyway. If it is found that a released product contains malware of any sort, we'd be looking at a user ban and blanket ban on future content from them. Of course that on top of the word getting out that said dev is untrustworthy. credibility=ruined, good luck getting it back. Worth it? I say no.

I do think something needs to be done regarding spacing. I've had instances where I jump a pit and find another one tile away with no time to react. Same goes for multiple obstacles close together. Some minimum distances definitely need to be established.

Hmmm, I have run this game on my data drive not my system drive and not had any issue.Saying that, I never made the 10 minute doomsday time and eventually it got to fast.I still kept it but the latest itteration has got me losing enjoyment.Endless runner's thing is you run, you shift, you jump and adjust level to what you want.By the time you get pits, fire, drones, the ducking thing, blades, etc it comes to a point between level 5 and 10 that you just get bogged down with to much noise and can't move at all due to getting picked off by something which happened with the latest version yesterday. Its been deleted. The only game I do play with cheats from time to time is branble and to be honest I only have kept it for so long because its been really cool to play.I have not noticed anything getting hacked, but if that is true I can easily reformat, and reinstall all my data though it will take me a few months. It won't make me that happy though and to be honest I still have a soft spot for branble, though I can easily delete that I guess, I hardly play it but still like it.

Re: Bluesky, an awesome runner game

Yup exactly. I'll also say that Mason's reasons for not trusting this dev are not unfounded, I've known him to put little backdoors in his games multiple times and, mostly, get away with it. I would seriously recommend being very careful where you run any of this guy's stuff, ideally run it in a sandbox / other controled environment if you have to at all. Sadly I think a lot of people have probably already ran this game on their primary machines, and if the mods were quicker to react to this thread a lot of potential harm could have been avoided.

Re: Bluesky, an awesome runner game

According to the readme, Sediment is the person behind the scoreboards feature. Also, a heads up that there is a new version of the game with some interesting features, except for one.Apparently there will be stone columns at around level 10, and this is what the warp item will be used for. However, there is one obstacle that has been added which, seriously, does not make any sense, or doesn't seem to have been tested. It's a hand. So you'd be walking along and you'd suddenly hear a fwack. This means you've been knocked back a few tiles. Now that's fine, except I can't progress past level 1 because the danged thing hits me as I cross the pit, taking me back and sometimes, making me fall in. Worse yet, it's a random occurrence, and it's happened to me more often than not. The bluesky text file claims that this item was added as a sort of joke. It's not funny if it happens three times in a row, and all you hear is, quite literally, a whack sound, without warning.

Re: Bluesky, an awesome runner game

So... decided to give this thing a try and I kinda like it. Difficulty seems to curve rather sharply after level 3 or so. I just saw my first blades, and ended up getting killed by a drone first before I could figure out how to deal with them. I'll try some more though, I feel like I'm getting this, and I dare say, I enjoy it more than the other runners I've played, though Blinded Guide is still my favorite so far.One big issue I see is that more than once, I've had a gate or a stone show up on level 3 before I had my swingy weapon. Thus I couldn't do anything to avoid a cheap death. The cringy and probably only solution to that is to stall the game by ducking a lot, or getting protectors and hoping they can get you through, though I don't really recommend the latter. I mostly recommend ducking, it seems you'll still collect points/coins/levels while you're ducked, so I just wait until level 4 starts and then whale away. That might not be fullproof, though. I think it's bordering on unfair, but so far as I can gather at this stage, once you get past that bit, the gameplay becomes fair again. I'll have to try it more and see.As to the issue of whether the person who posted it had permission to post it, or whether we should be allowing games from a banned dev, I can't pretend I know the right course of action here. Nobody knows who does and doesn't have permission to advertise the game. My personal opinion is that this game would've been released on here if the dev were able to. It doesn't look much less complete than his other games. But assumption isn't enough here, we need something definite, unless the mods decide to blanket ban any games from this dev, which would be understandable, but it would be a shame I think. Sue me, but I actually like this guy's games to a point.I believe you're allowed to enjoy and play games from anyone. Even if the dev is the most disrespectful inflateable idiotic jerk in existence, I'm still willing to give their products a chance so long as they're decent, and that lack of respect doesn't leak into the products. If they produce free games which I find fun and which aren't doing any harm, I'm going to play them. Now if there are disrespectful messages in the readme or in the game, or if they have a history of spreading viruses, or if they have a shady financial record and are asking for money, I'll step back. But until I hear any solid evidence to suggest I should be weary, I don't really care what his reputation is personally. I don't know the guy, yes I've seen the conduct on here which led to his ban and I condone the ban, but since my feelings against him aren't so much personal in nature, I can look past them for the time being.Of course, it's a rather sticky situation; we can't get permission from the dev if he's banned, so how can we know whether to allow the game or not? That's where I leave this topic alone. If the game is allowed on here, I'd be interested in writing up more detailed instructions/helping people out, as it's one of those games where the design is basically there imho. But the readme, well, needs work!I'm honestly getting tired of such lazy documentation. My problem isn't so much the lack of gameplay explanation, it's the fact that the dev openly admits "Hey sorry but I didn't want to explain anything." There are better ways to tell players you want them to figure some things out for themselves. Heck, I think Tomb Hunter did a better job at it.

But assumption isn't enough here, we need something, unless the mods decide to blanket ban any games from this dev, which would be understandable, but it would be a shame I think. Rule 7 doesnt mention anything about posting games on people's behalf, and no one has said whether it contains stolen code yet. Additionally, if we had to get permission from everyone before posting a new game, we would have less games to talk about. I think that generally speaking, people post new games here to bring attention to it. Not sure why you wouldn't want people to play your new game, unless you didnt want to get into trouble. I never had a dev tell me not to do it when I told them I wanted to spread the word about their game in this room.On another note, auto runners are a dime a dozen these days, but such is life in the world of games. Where would mk be If capcom decided to sue midway for copying there idea? Where would killer instincts be if midway went after rare for stealing their idea of finishing moves? Where would soul calibur be if snk went after namco for producing a weapon-based fighter? Competition is good for the market, because it encourages growth and innovation. We should not forget how to compete.Food for thought. That is all.

IMHO if you can't say for sure it was actually (on behalf of) that user, as in they asked you to do so because they couldn't, than your just posting about an off forum game.Does being banned mean any game you make can't be talked about on this forum?  Because I don't think it does, and I don't think anyone wants that either. If Liam drank too much Venusian rum and went on a xenophobic tirade about beings from Alpha Centauri and Jade banned him in keeping with amendment  G of the intersolar alliance of 2218, and then 1 half Earth cycle later he uploaded Super Slide 2 Plus  to the mindnet, would you really want to suppress any thought communications on the audiogames mindportal about such a big title?I think that would kinda reflect poorly on audio games, having this huge random hole in the conversation because of a mostly unrelated issue, assuming he didn't put any subvocal hate messages in the sound effects or hide any implant hacks that caused players to hate Jade in it or something like that.

Re: Bluesky, an awesome runner game

To be honest, concept clones are made in arcade all the time. Now some of them are better than others.True this aint much more than a simple time waster to get rid of stress or to jog the brain.Well while not really much use, I mean look at branble, for example there really isn't much substance to it, ie you don't really win, but its nice to get your mind out of the rutt especially now the world has ended. In new zealand I am fortunate that our lockdown is entering stage 2 of 4 and downgrading.Life will be tough for a few years and travel may not exist as it was for a few more but we are getting out of it slowly. To be honest, I have a million apps like this and this one I decided to keep because the sounds were good and it gave enough challenge that I could role with it.However to be honest I'd actually like games like this to have a manual mode.Ie, you had to run or walk yourself, jump your self, avoid blades or maybe smash them, get stones instead of destroying them, and when near a blade throwing them at them and destroying them, and run to some sort of story. These automatic games are a dime a dozen but if a game like this had a manual mode, maybe with no score but a story, beginning middle and end, and a good plot on top of it it may just be a load better. As for the sounds, the more brootle the better. For those that havn't heard it I would encourage you to listen to some of those mk streams especially liam's ones.Fact is clones are not the issue here. They never were.Stolen code and sounds, well depending how things came out well who knows.I have also had some sounds I guess I could say put on a free sounds pack and generally released without my permition.Firstly they were mine, given to a company well rsgames for one of their games that never made it as a full version. They were not as especially good recordings, in fact they were used in the age of slaughter game which doesn't work. Also battlezone.I also played both these games. And do play battlezone from time to time.I gave the sounds to rsgames, but others got them somehow. These people used them for a lot of epic programs better than their initial use.I even have the pack with them in.They seem to make it into ever battling game.I never put a licence on these and they are used everywhhere.I made these sounds for enemy unit types, originally for guards but warriors and soldiers would work to they are generic. Now, imagine for a moment that I decided that I didn't care for this and made a song and dance over it.We may have banned the clones, but the stuff is out there.Pandora's box is opened, and we can't close it.There needs to be some point in time where we need to say, well mistakes were made, but like rabbits etc its everywhere now.I think its time to let it live as one of those thhings. As long as they are good. Now saying that in my case I gave those freely.I never sold rights to rs so they are technically mine.I never licenced anything, legal or otherwise so if you really want to be technical about it, they are public domain.Technically they are being missused but they are being used for their intended purpose. The project that was going to have them never made it past public beta, so I don't feel bad that someone is using them for what they were. They were 1 shots anyway. Now if rsgames had payed me something like 10 bucks or any amount of cash over say 1 or 2000 then maybe I'd have grounds to sue but they didn't.And at any rate they are like 10 poor quality crappy sounds not worth legal costs.Code is a bit harder, but companies steal eachother's stuff all the time from ideas to what not.Sometimes they get away with it or sometimes they will battle for it but eventually things play out as they do.On here, we are generating more drama over the stupid  clones than the damn clones themselves. If an idea is cloned and its just the concept then be happy if it sparks so many look alikes. And if that doesn't settle with you its another portable program to put on your memmory stick. While you need to get through antivirus scanners the point is especially in a restricted network environment, the portable app, cloud app and web app are essential because you don't have to install them. Now any port or clone  of anything needs to be registered. But you can base something on something else, even using the same concept or idea as long as its not exactly like  the one you used it for.But the differences between that is quite small. For example, changing the sounds and releasing the same code just isn't a good idea. However if the thing can be modded releasing the sounds etc on the same engine in a pack is not especially if you can do so.Releasing using a slightly different name, your own code and sounds but base it on whatever was before just your take on it is good.Companies do it all the time. Now granted it can be a bit hit and miss.If its to close to your original idea you may feel its threatening your idea or rights

Re: Bluesky, an awesome runner game

You still fail to answer the main question: do you have the permission to post a link to this game? If you do, you are posting on a band user‘s behalf and thus breaking the rules. If you don’t, you are breaking the rules by distributing something which the developer did not wish to release to the public.  You lose either way.

So what the fuck is wrong with it if he decides to make a game just like every other runner? It's only a truely bad thing if he actually steals source code. I don't see anyone complaining about cp having side scrolling games where you run to the right and jump over shit, even though battle zone, super liam and 1234567890 other side scrollers have done the very same thing before. I never saw anyone jumping down Yukio's throat for making world of war which was basically judgement day for the japanese. For once, I'm with the few people who says that we should give op a break. They didn't even develop this, and just posted it for Bran. Also, since when is posting games made by banned individuals against the rules? It's only against the rules if it's an unaughtherized code fork, and so far, no one has come up with any proof that it is. Similar mechanics don't mean unaughtherized fork, for the eleventeenth time.

@masonasons don't worry, blinded guide came before your game, so you didn't invent the runner concept. Not to mention that you were most likely either inspired by that game or a minigame in crazy  party in the same way someone was probably inspired by your game.

Re: Bluesky, an awesome runner game

Re, disrespecting others’ work. Two wrongs don’t make a right, isn’t that how the saying goes? Just because he disrespects someone’s work does not give the said individual to do the same to him. As for runners, come on! There’s so much you can do with this. The question is why aren’t you?  Masons runner didn’t even come close to exhausting the genre. Blinded guide was more involved, but it’s still didn’t do everything it could have.  Speaking of originality, if we have anyone to thank for this it’s Liam. I believe he started the runner trend.

To clarify, I personally don't care, I just think it's kinda funny how as soon as I released endless runner, then boom you have perilous marathon and then boom we now have this thing. It makes me wonder had I not released that if these games would exist in the first place. I am about 99.9% sure they wouldn't.

Re: Bluesky, an awesome runner game

this is exactly what happens when you have some class and some bits of stolen code going around.. bugs that even the developer of said game, cannot even think of how to fix. And its not really about being original, but we have been seeing the same games over and over and over, and! over again. Nothing is done to change them, so that should raise you a red flag, instantly. Why instead of running this could be another sidescrioller but with another goal? Or why not add something else, different, or change just one bit of the goal that other games had set?

@9 Mk is kind of diffrent, I mean, it's a fighting game so I already expect some kind of brutality in it, and yes I have no problem with it, I even enjoy dealing as much damage as I can to my enemy in a fighting game. For this kind of game though, I don't think that kind of goary detailed is needed.

Re: Bluesky, an awesome runner game

played the game for a little, so yeah, basicly it's a sidescroller runner game so opstical such as pits, drones, fireball are comeing from your right. you have to duck fireball, shoot/duck drones, destroy stone with your weapon, jump pits which make a diffrent sounds depending with what tile you are currently running, grass is firepit, metal is electricpit, concrete is a hole etc.the keys are in the readme, there are a few that undocumented such as l to check your level, c to check your coin which you can purchase things in the shop.Personal comment, the sounds are good and all that but I think it's way too brutal honestly. I am getting tired of some blind dude trying to make their game sounds as bloody as much as they can. we're really have a dark taste huh...
