i can see what you mean there about resetting every 3 months but it still stands that if you put in a whole ton of work it's going to be undone. or if rl gets in the way which it does and should do obviously, but if it does then that puts you at a disadvantage for that whole round. you've effectively lost before you've started. at least with a persistent server yes you'll be playing catchup but there's still a chance you can become a power to be reckoned with.

If he worried we'd never leave his server I think he slightly overdid it. There are barely people online anymore. Yes, the server is still up, but it might as well not be considering the attention this game gets these days. I would love to play more, but being close to alone on the server makes for a rather dull experience. The reason for resetting the server is that at some point players would get too powerful and there wouldn't be much point to go against them in either way. Competing with them in terms of high score would be impossible as stronger players would have an easier time getting a better score. Even if Aprone only reset the score, people with 20 factories, for example, would have a clear advantage, if they got to keep all their stuff. Now, if weather patterns were added to the game, people could lose stuff randomly. This could replace a reset, but losing things is what repelled people from the concept of resets in the first place. Attacks fall into the same category. If there were no disasters, resets or attacks, people would just be able to keep building up things, which would get boring after some time I reckon. After all, if there is no greater goal to be reached, what is the purpose of playing the game? Because if some people managed to get an enormous score, which would eventually happen without any reset, new players wouldn't even have to try working on their scores. Keep in mind that trying and failing to come up with a new approach to fix this problem is what lead Aprone to quit the development of this project, which is why, danielpicard, no new version of this game has been released for more than a year, meaning that the version on Aprone's website is indeed the latest one. I think that's quite a shame, since Castaways II can be quite fun and would have had great potential for more content.

This is one of the best games ever and I love the online stuff. Now it would b nice to have an no-attack mode but if the game didn't reset every month I could suck up the damage taken with a robbery, but when you build so far and get knocked down so hard that there is no way to recover anything, it is discouraging.Now the single person mode, I would love to play it but it has limitations and I would be very willing to pay for those limitations to be lifted, like being able to do the quests and get a new plot.As it stands it is a fabulous game. Maybe Aprone is afraid we'd never leave his server if it didn't reset. LOLA

Well said, I completely agree. I'm still holding out hope that an updated offline version will surface one day. I love this game, and that's high praise from me since I've become quite picky about which audio games I like and that actually hold my interest over time. This is one of the few that has. While I don't really play it anymore due to the limitations of the offline version, it's still a truly great game.

I believe what set a lot of people off from the game was it resetting. I know it was done for balance and all, but for people like me who only get to play for small lengths of time at a time it was a major setback. If the game wasn't being constantly reset I'm sure you'd see players swarming the server. I remember playing the game myself, only to discover... Surprise! Everything you have resets at the end of the month! Not to mention, but sometimes you're not in the mood for castaways and you decide to not play that weekend. Well, you're screwed now if the only time you play are Saturdays and Sundays, since there are 3 weeks in a month, sometimes 4. I loved the concept, I truly did. However, I wasn't able to play the game constantly and was reset as soon as I had anything major to work with.

@EagleEarEntertainment, some buildings and jobs are only available a few days of the week. Every Wednesday for example, the factory becomes available with a few jobs such as the ability to steam eggs, where you can make five eggs with only one firewood instead of needing one firewood per egg. You'll also be able to build a castle and a city later in the week, plus some more jobs will pop up in the factory which will let you mine much more efficiently.

Yes, it is. However, today is only April 7th, so you still have 23 days left for this month. Plus today is Sunday. Some additional buildings and jobs start being available every Wednesday and Friday, starting you off with only the default jobs and buildings every Sunday and not working on a monthly course how it should be. This dates back to when the server would be reset once a week, when Aprone simply forgot about changing this behavior along with the monthly resets. Hence, today would be a fine choice for starting a new game on Castaways II I suppose.

I disagree about lack of robbing, since I'd love to see the single player of the game expanded into a full colonization and settling affair where you could build a hole  society as I said previously. Imho single player and multiplayer should work differently in this instance.

I hope Aprone gets back to this game as well. There is a lot of potential, but I hope he gives it the justice it deserves. Many games have a great start then die off in detail or quality. As I thought about the game further I found a few more details that may need adjusting. 1.    There is no way to slaughter sheep. This job is offered to cattle. I’ve used up my need for my sheep and now I would like the tile it is taking up. 2.    I have not found a way to destroy a building. An issue that I’ve found is only one worker can work at a building at one time even if you have more free workers. A solution I found for this was to build more of the same building. For example: I build three smelters in order to smelt coal, iron, copper, gold, and more coal all at the same time since they take over three minutes each. Now I have no use for more than one smelters and I would like to get rid of my other two to free up tiles, but found no way to destroy the building. 3.    I like the achievements idea, but I think having them worth some quest points, even if it’s a small amount, may be something to look into. Many of the quests are difficult or not worth the bonus. I think making the achievements worth something would make me strive to gain them. 4.    As I stated in an earlier post, I think the ability to replenish lost food energy worth may be useful. It may take a lot of time, but eating different foods should replenish old food’s worth. I will run out of foods eventually or find myself doing nothing but trying to get energy. For example: I’ve found that after eating 10 of the same food such as apples they diminish by 1 point. So an apple usually worth 9 will be worth 8 after 10 or so eats. So eating 90 apples or so will only make them worth 1 point. This may be ok for apples or fish that can be picked or fished in numeral amounts so the ratio may be worth it. For example: I can boat fish 4 to 6 fish using 1 energy. With the factory I can cook 5 fish with 1 energy. All said and done I can use 2 energy for 5 energy if my fish get down to worth only 1 energy. This is not practical for bread though. Now that my bread is only with 1 it takes like 5 energy to get 2 loaves of bread. If the worth replenished slowly it may be worth going back to bread. 5.    I’m not sure if the game is supposed to work this way or if I found a glitch. I was able to do the same quests numeral times. This was great for the quest points, but I continuously received the bonus, which was what I was after. For those of you that have done the “feast for workers” quest and received the 45 seconds faster on all jobs in the land bonus, you may know what I’m talking about. After doing this quest once I became curious to see if doing it a second time would still give me 45 additional seconds off each job. Turns out it did. I have now done that quest enough so that I can take 7 minutes and 30 seconds off all jobs. This means I can build a new building in an instant along with farming, cooking, constructing, and others. Right now, only breeding and sending supplies to another land take time for me to do. I can still shorten this by having another worker assist through the church. I don’t think the quest was intended to do this the way I used it. If it was, great for me and others those have used it this way. If not, I would suggest making the quests only doable once. If this would be the case, you may need many more quests so that people could gain quest points or make the achievements worth some points. 6.    My next point is a suggestion to sell an additional plot of land to the kingdom for a small price. The use I’ve found for the additional plot of land is for the new mining grounds. Once the tiles are used up underground I really have no use for the new plot. For this reason I suggested transporting left over energy and workers to a different plot so they were not wasted. For this reason it would be nice to be able to sell a plot of land to the kingdom. I’m finding I have many used plots that I have no use for. I’m an organized person and would like to get rid of them to keep myself organized. I would even be ok with the idea of having to pay the kingdom to get rid of my plot. Maybe saying I have to pay the kingdom to take over the plot or something. 7.    I of course would add in random events like in the first game. The part that’s missing is the old hospital. I’ve noticed that none of my workers get injured on the job or get sick like in the first game. The building of a hospital is missing. This may be an avenue to explore for more jobs that could take time to mend. Anyway. I think I’ve made enough suggestions for Aprone. Overall, I think it’s a great game and I’d hate to see it completed without reaching its full potential. I’ve played too many games that had a great overall foundation, but diminished in quality because shortcuts were made. Keep it up Aprone, you’re doing a great job.Kodanna

I'd personally like to see the game revamped to really! get you to grips with building, since with the quests and job system the game has there is great potential to make a real empire game with cities, trades, ships etc. I do also though miss the worker personalities from the previous game. since it was always nice to have your workers have some sort of life style too, either way I definitely hope Aprone gets back to this and expands things as it is an awesome game and could be a truly! awesome one with a little more work.

Hello again, i've now spent a week or two playing the multiplayer function. great game and i can't wait for the single player tasks/missions. i love the idea of the food energy and using different foods as the game gets further on. the problem i've found is that though some foods are great for energy, once the energy diminishes and you use many more foods, you may run out of combonations to restore your workers. for example: my bread is now at a value of 1 since i've made so much along with my apples, fish, potatos, corn, beer, olives, ang grapes. though there are alot of combinations of foods, i may run out eventually and i've only been playing for a couple weeks. also, once settling a new plot it would be great to be able to take/give energy to another plots workers. i've exsausted two plots of land of all it's resources in the mines and one plot i have no use for since i've decided to strip of it of all it's supplies. i have 400 ener

@Kodanna, I can't speak about the multiplayer but I can explain about food. The way food works is every job you do takes food energy for each worker. I can't recall the ratio exactly but it's roughly one food energy per action.If you run out of food energy you can't do most things. Your people wont' actually starve, but they won't be able to do much else either.food items when  used basically give you energy back. As a rough guide the harder to produce the food is, the more it gives you. So the most basic food item is something like apples which you can just get from an apple tree and eat. Then however if you have firewood you can cook  things such as potatoes and corn which give a bit more energy.once you build a mill you can start baking bread, which is a great source of energy (it gives 70 I believe). The only thing to watch with food is that the more you use certain foods, the less energy you get b
 ack from them, this means you need to be making up new recipes and building new things, just look at the tasks list for info on what you need for the various items, indeed working out how to produce things was imho one of my favourite parts of the game. I do hope if Aprone ever revamps single player a little there will be something of a remission  the diminishing returns with food, since while it's an okay mechanic for  multiplayer game that resets, it's perhaps not as good an idea perminantly for a single player game, but we'll see.

yeah, i've only been able to play on the single player and i've ran into an issue or maybe that's the games design. every time i run out of food energy i can no longer use a worker of mine. maybe that is suppose to happen as a penelty to running out of food. not sure. also, in the single player there is no way to get more materials if you no longer have the materials needed to build the "settleing on new plot" hope that's different in the multiplayer. i'd like to try it to get the full effect of the game. love it so far

I dont' think my message came through but online store onlyworks for multi-user. If you put money in the single-user cheat code it will give you cash. Which is a good thing since you can spend 100 coins and get an apple three times in a row on the get randem food crops, ETC.

Only in multi-user mode does the online store work and you must have a store. It does not work in single mode. YOu can put in money and it will give you money to use in your storehouse though, if using cheat.

@Haramir, I'd love a huge rpg as much as anyone, but that affectively would be a completely different game to castaways 2 and a different project. Myself what chiefly puts me off the game  the pvp focus and limits on single player growth and tasks. I also will admit I very much miss the worker personalities and things like pregnancy of the  from original castaways, since it was really nice to command workers who went off and did things themselves and got pregnant etc. On the other hand, I do llove the tasks, the amount of stuff you can make, and a lot of things like the advanced mining tiles and exploring that the game has, not to mention actual farming with realistic harvesting and gground preparation required, as well as need to keep seeds etc, indeed where original castaways was limited in complexity by things how much you could micro manage workers, castaways 2 has much more potential to expand into building larger projects and making a bigger empi
 re.I'd suggest myself that the game modes need to be made distinct. Single player  tweaking for an expantion and mission based game, (perhaps with worker personalities and marriages as I suggested in post 225), and as that tweaking occurs, different aspects can be added into the online game with a pvp focus. For example, if the single player game had the ability  expand onto different plots and send caravans of resources between plots, the online game could include an ambush function to attempt to send a knight or other military unit to ambush a player's caravan when transferring.Likewise, at the moment the chief bennifits of building castle in the multiplayer game involve pvp, where as it would be nice if the single player game the castle had other bennifits, eg, ability to recruit more efficient workers or form worker guilds or families. Another idea might be, instead of trying to build a single player game separate from the mu
 ltiplayer game, simply have a number of different multiplayer options to satisfy people's different preferences. For example there could be an "expantion" game, with say a three monthly reset, tasks to do, trading between players and no pvp (though perhaps still with goblins and the like to contend with). Or an extermination game which had monthly resets, but more military units, faster tasks and all in all a more serious pvp focus. Just some suggestions. certainly though I don't think the game needs rewriting, so much as just a little expanding.

Hello folks. Sir, you may know my opinion already, but I'll share it here. I'd personally prefer to play something more complex and yet fast passed with a good background plot. I never forgot when I heard about that huge rpg you're planning back there when Swamp were still in it's 2.5 phase. I'm not trying to press you up or anything, but now you don't have any big games tying your hands like you had Swamp back in the day. So, please consider giving it a try. hi aprone,for me personally and this is only a personal thing mind but I like ongoing games. games that don't reset. so if there was lets say an option to play the game where it was totally ongoing then I would opt for that and play. that's not to say I think you should get rid of the monthly resets because there are obviously folks who like that and why shouldn't they be catered for if at all possible. anyway hope all is well.

Shermanator I had to go check the code to remember, but it seems missed world messages just go into your normal message list.  When you review messages with the square bracket keys [ and ], it should have put the missed messages at the very beginning of that list.I hope that helps.

Yeah this has been a tricky project because so many of the original plans didn't work out as I had imagined.  The quick solution seems to be to tear out huge portions and re-code the game to something that a larger group of players will enjoy, but that would "kill" the game for people who like that original direction.  There's a voice in my head telling me that it makes the most sense to forget what the game is Now and focus on making it a game that more people will want to play, but then again, growing up I've always hated seeing games changed around to appeal to the masses.  I remember a few games I really enjoyed, but the majority of players found it either too hard or something, and complained until the entire game was changed to accommodate them.Of course I'm not saying that any group is whining about Castaways 2 to get it changed.  With this game I'm interpreting the silence as complaining, since very very few peo
 ple enjoy playing it.  That's actually a more severe form of complaint than a group who complains but continues to play the game, lol!  Something has to be done to fix this game, but I still can't decide on exactly what that needs to be.

I will confess I have somewhat avoided giving the game a db page because I am not sure what it's current status is or where it is going or whether it will be rewritten or what not. Pressing right or left brace only shows me messages on things i had going on when i logged out. but that may be only like 1 or 2 messages. That was so fun! The building was slow, that multiplying was slow and I think some of the others were slow too, but most of the basic tasks were faster, so you really could get to making factories and cities and stuff.Dang I love this game! [[wow]]. The last time I played this online, the game was reset once a week. I suppose that has changed.For Aprone, if you still check this topic. I have created a few ideas that could make this game a bit more fun. Generally, I thought of adding some more higher goal to this. The main though, would be separating this game to some worlds, and then generating a whole map in one, where a player would be able to oversee it, possibly pick one square of 10 by 10 tiles where to start and then settle a new plot of land whereever they choose to. I can not explain all what came to my mind at the moment, though if you or anyone else would be interested, I could share it. I hope this game is going to have some more progress.

Love the really quick  times it took for some things to be made or done. now I finally got logged in properly it seems and all the work times are back to being really slow. as if I was playing single player mode and not the multi player like last month. so is this normal? last month it was not until i got my 2nd plot that the work times got really slow. My first plot was always really quick like. Once in a while I can log into the server and play away! The single mode does not allow you to get to the next plot. You can create it but not get there.brilliant fun game. Also single mode still has the same slow task times.A

Anyone who has played lately knows that the first plot has lightning fast tasks. This is not so with the second plot, which I find interesting, however, I doubt I would be able to make a third plot to hunt for water before my time ran out, with the longer times.After trying them both side by side I really do like the quick tasks, it keeps you there and doing stuff on the game. Some things should take longer like building and quests and stuff, but the tasks that keep the game going is pretty much best on the first plot. I do admit it was a lot harder to get anything done at work and home, kept me glued to the game!So fun!Thank you,A

HI,Nope. Not on a virtual machine.but did notice this last time i logged in. I tried to start new game. told both workers to collect grass. After a minute both were still not available. but did notice that the option to disconnect from the server was there.so not really sure what is happening. can connect. but the full game i had started does not appear. if I try to start a new game the jobs never finish. Even the T key shows no tasks yet no workers are available.Hmm Will keep trying i guess.

Ok, after many attempts, since my last post I have not been able to log into the server properly as far as i can tell. I log in and it says it is connected to server yet the option to disconnect from server is not there. All it has after pressing the esc key is new game, story, achievements, and exit. no way out of it. Suggestion my creative friend...My first plot did not have water, so I tried to get to the next one very quickly, which I did. However, that one does not have it either, so no church ortavern and no certain quests. So, perhaps while you are tweaking it maybe let at least the second plot have a water source! I shall keep searching but it sort of makes things a little redundant. I shall continue though and thanks for making some of the tasks faster, it helps so much and makes it funner.Your biggest fan,A

You need to go to the house and press enter and it will have you impregnate one of the slaves.Now I generally always try to log in myself again if it lags out.It will save your game automatically and I have been pleasantly surprised at how much fun it is with the faster make times.It is so fun to see how far I can get. I am hoping someone might want to sell sand or glass though, since I have no water.Have fun and see you there, I am Azrillee.A
