Re: Does Anyone Know Where I Can Find an Accessible Speakandspell Imulator @dark, dark tower was one of the handheld games emulated in mame. it's actually one of only 3 board games emulated, the others being dallas (called dalla$in mame for some reason, most likely it was written that way in marketing material) and arcade mania. the only reasons they are emulated should be obvious as they contain a few elecronic pieces.Also, I took a licken from a chicken is emulated. It holds the destinction of being one of the first games by LJN, so it was only natural I'd get a kick out of it as a fan of the Angry VIdeo Game Nerd. naturally, simon is also emulated which needs no introduction, along with it's atari-produced cousin touch me (in the ladder case only the handheld version is emulated, likely due to it's obscurity and not for tecnical reasons, as proven by the inclusion of a few games that use the same logic as the ladder, including pong (the granddaddy of them all).Merlin is also supported, but the version emulated is the original 1978 version, not the 2004 remake which replaces the menu beeps with a digitised voice. Re: Does Anyone Know Where I Can Find an Accessible Speakandspell Imulator I currently have most of the mame 0.161 romset (meaning I may need newer cps2 romsets since the ones in my set are not being detected, same with neo geo and possibly playchoice 10), plus a pack that includes all the handheld games in mame (speak and spell and varients for example).Maybe they should add speak and music support in a future version, or better yet, support for retro keyboards, there are skeliton drivers for yamaha tg100 and casio sk1 in the latest version. I'm also triing to get the votrax pss driver to recognise what I type, by the way. obviously the traditional handheld games (like the tiger ones) are not playable. the k28 (a talking learning computer) is for the most part, though the speech is almost uninteligable. I know the votrax isn't emulated 100%, but I heard more understandable speech in arcade games with identical speech hardware (wizard of war for example). speaking of the arcade games, the arcade version of gauntlet is playable to some degree, due to a combination of important events being announced by a synthesized voice and an ominous sound that plays when you are about to die, so you could easily keep an eye (or ear in the case) on your character's health. the least playable are math marvel, dataman and spelling bee, which don't have sound at all. It's not mame's fault either, this is also true on the real devices. Unfortunately I don't think it works, because when I press enter it plays a chime but doesn't do anything afterwards. I've been told that the screen is blank by a sited person. Is there a special thing you have to do to get it working and turn on the tts, or am I screwed entirely? Re: Does Anyone Know Where I Can Find an Accessible Speakandspell Imulator Someone should make a collection of ROMs and instructions for games/handhelds/toys/etc. emulated by MAME which have been tested and are known to work well, and are known to be accessible by the blind. As an example, most of Speak and Spell and as far as I know all of Speak and Math is usable by a totally blind person, however, some modes in Speak and Read are not since they rely on visual information either on the display or probably in an included booklet. Been following their development stuff more often than I did previously, and IMO they are making good progress in emulating more consoles and computers.I didn't know that newer versions of MAME UI were being available, as I just use vanilla MAME. I figured they did publish new versions as new versions of MAME were released every month, but I wasn't sure.Thanks. You should be able to find them further down the downloads page, though unless you want to start a huge collection of games that you'd want to filter, getting that is probably more trouble than it's worth considering it's quite a bit larger and takes some time to do a ROM scan. But if you want to play a lot of games, or configure advanced options for a system without reading up on advanced command line parameters and making INI files, than it might be useful for you. I think it was a version of MAME called MAME UI. It's a standard version of MAME that has a familiar Windows interface, like you said. I believe since the early beginnings, MAME used a graphical GUI like the one you find today, and the only way to launch anything accessibly is to launch it through the command line, due to the aforementioned graphical user interface.@shotgunshell, glad it's working for you! Try:mame snspellIn a few seconds you should hear the startup sound of the Speak and Spell. Once it's going, hit 1 for Go, 2 to replay the game, 3 to repeat, 4 is clue for mystery word game, 5 is mystery word, 6 is secret code, 7 is letter, 8 is Say it, 9 is normal spelling mode, 0 is module select which isn't worth much since I haven't been able to find any expansion modules.To exit, hit escape. If that doesn't work, hit scroll lock, then escape. There is one for the old 2xl tape robot that I'd love to play, and another for a fantasy board game my lady loved as a child called dark tower which actually sounds pretty awesome even though I never played it myself. I tried hitting alt, alt space, alt f, control o, control n, control l, and none of them worked. I tried alt tabbing out and back in, but pressing alt tab gave me this error.Fatal error: Fatal error: Too many live texture instances! (../../../../../src/emu/render.cpp:490)That was the only way I could get the program to exit out, because Alt F4 didn't do anything either. I tried both the 64 bit and 32 bit version, (64 bit first because my computer is 64 bit,) but both versions yielded the same results. Can anyone help me out, is there something I'm doing wrong? You don't have to download any additional BIOS files, thankfully. The SNS ROM should work under the latest version of MAME, which is, as of this writing, MAME version 0.195. I'd say they're easy to obtain, they should be the first results you see on Google.
