Re: GMA Games, What's coming up in 2015

I couldnt agree more with post 31, themadviolinist.Ive been dreaming of a Lone Wolf 4 release for ages now, and I surely hope it has more then just bug fixes. Back in the day a lot of ideas were kicked about like perhaps David would set up a more [true to life] world war II sub. Namely the gado class sub. Where there are not only the standard four torp tubes in the bow, but six torpedo tubes in the stearn.Another idea kicked around was to add a second gun on top of the sub as well. Maybe a machine gun, which if you read into it, there truely were some subs that had that kind of artillery on board.Just curious to see if any of these ideas are in the making, or was it all hot air. With a lot of the tougher missions written by thomas Ward and Don voils, theres really a need to have more torpedo tubes, and a faster gun for low flying planes.Hope that the word of another LW version isnt just a myth.Keep up the great work David a
 nd Phil V!

Of the things mentioned in the OP, the update to LW is the one Im most interested in. Lone Wolf holds a place of honor in my gaming world as the first Windows game I bought and the ability to create missions made it have the best replay value of anything before Time of Conflict or Swamp of games for our market Id run across. I remember a lot of discussions for enhancements of the mission scripting capability, and I hope these will be implemented as they would make the creation of even better missions possible. This is one Ill be willing to pay for again as its been thirteen years since I bought it.

My question is this. Why bump the version number up two whole numbers if its just going to be a small release for vipmud? Why not do 1.1.2, and then with the big release, move it to 2.0? Or, skip all that, and put everything into a 2.0 update? Would make a bit more sense at least to me.

The version numbers decidehow David wants to charge for the game. When you buy 1.0 you get all versions up to 1.9 for free.If he releases 2.0 you need to pay extra and the game requires a different registration key.David sometimes releases 1.2.1 and 1.2.2 for his beta team so he can put out many slight changed versions to isolate a bug or to check out a new feature.

Hey everyone,Id like to introduce MMC. This may be some kind of play on the oldschool JMC client, but in any case, it uses accessible Output II for screen reader output, and if you know Python, youll be right at home because thats the programming language. Anything you can do with Python you could script into your Mud worlds locally, of course. It has the entry/output windows just as VipMud, Im pretty sure it supports sound formats such as Ogg, and more is coming since it only went into beta at the beginning of the month. Id say its definitely a free alternative to VipMud.The website is still under construction, but here is the main download folder where the zip file just needs to be extracted and you can start mudding right away.http://www.code-metropolis.com/downloadAlso, you can subscribe to the MMC users list by Googling for MMC users. Its on Freelist
 s. I dont think its required by highly recommended.

Brad,The update to Shades of Doom has more than just mouse support. You can now switch to SAPI or screen reader settings. When in these settings, the game uses a text file to describe all the creatures and objects. So if you want to change the mutant dog to a werewolf, you can.The update fixes the panning of sounds that was broken in newer versions of Windows. And you can use all the cheets without having to earn or pay for them.

As far as situations where I require multiple voices, there are situations where something gets blinded, and I need an alternitive voice to immediately speak over the main voice, without interupting it, to tell me what was just blinded. Same goes for when a sleep spell is casted on something. I also have a half-baked script that triggers when a group of enemies enters the room, and simply speaks how many there are.

Well to be honest, at the time I purchased my license for VIPMud, I only really knew one other blind mudder, and he was using JMC, which didnt seem terribly great. So not having any awareness of anything comparable to VIPMud, and recognising the significant value Id already obtained from the product, and knowing I would contiue continue to use it your for years, I paid the $35. Since then, VIPMud has costed me the exact same as any other client. That is, continuing to use VIPMud costs $0, and switching to any other client costs $0.If I had known back then about these alternitives you speak of, then perhaps I might have switched, but as is, I cant imagine any other client being significantly better, since in all my years of using VIPMud, the only problem Ive had is with its lack of a timestamp function, which Ive been able to emulate fairly well.Pray tell, what do these other clients do better than VIPMud?

Re: GMA Games, What's coming up in 2015

Since you have already bought VIP mud, there is probably not much reason for you to switch. The argument I was trying to make was for people to not have to spend so much money to buy it, but since you already spent this money, that point is moot, unless GMA Games plans to charge you to upgrade, which I highly doubt. There is nothing really wrong with the client; all the features work pretty well anyway. And the scripting is probably easier than in most other clients, which interface with popular programming/scripting languages. For example, mushClient uses lua, vb, perl, python, php and a couple others, and monkey Term uses some kind of xml thing. I am generally not a fan of proprietary scripting languages, which might also slant my decision. I do know that VIP mud scripting is easier, but the effort involved in learning another language is just kind of...unproductive to me. GMA would do better to spend its time on games that dont already have a fairly saturated market like
 Tank commander, in my opinion.

Well, probably for everyone who bought VIPmud it will be more paying in the future to upgrade LOLThe same as with other things, pyaing to upgrade shades of doom 2.0 which is... well, nothing interesting at all.I expected really 3d experience as it should be in the FPS style of games with really orginila HQ sound design. Ofcourse many of the sounds are taken from commercial games like zombies from resident evil 1. Older version contained zombies from game called Nightmare creatures, great old school hack slash.VIPmud is good, but if there will be option to switch to something better plus much much more cheap ill jump for it immediately. I tried MUSH but what pushes me away is mushreader plus need to using mouse to read the screen. Ofcourse, theres read only edit field but... jumping to it using CTRL plus tab where its not really read only, cause you can type there. I expected easier method, like perfect one from VIPmud - If i am start to
typing something in read only field, its automatically switching to the edit field.

As someone who studied C++ I took one look at the scripting in MushClient and thought, oh crap. Yes VIP is relatively expensive for what it is but it lets me concentrate on the game rather than the scripting which I value, and learning to script in VIP was lewss effort than learning LUA or similar for Mush and I just couldnt be bothered with that.Trek 2000 is indeed free. Final Conflict has some interesting changes compared with Trek 2000 but it actually omits a couple of features like the mines and self destruct functions of Trek 2000, theres also a few bugs in Final Conflict or at least were last thing I knew and an issue involving cloaked enemies where they wouldnt decloak to attack you if they only had one or two ships left so it was impossible to win. The big difference of course is that Final Conflict is in the era of the TNG movies with sovereign class ships, apart from the Defiant of course, while Trek 2000 is in the original series era with consti
tution class ships, fewer bugs and slightly better balance between the races.

I would have paied if it wasnt for the hardware based registration which I really dislike. But a free client which just speaks the incomming text by using NVDA is what I need and nothing more.Lone wolf, well... This is still a good game which I really should play some more. But I would like to see GMA games either upgrate this game to an online based game where you would earn money for completing the missions, and play with or against other players. If the new update is gonna cost any money, then Ill not think about it one single second. But if this is a free update, then Ill find my old licens and update it.I would love to see GMA Games come out with new titles, but I also respect them for updating their games to the newer operating system
 s. Because, so many older games has been forgotten.Oh that reminds me of Trek 2000. Didnt that became freeware, or what happened to this game? am I right that Final conflict made by Thomas Ward is a simular game but just much better? I dont remember since its so many years since Ive played this.

Gotta agree with Key and others here. $30 for a mud client is comparable to having to pay an arm and a leg for a screen reader... that was viable five years ago, but now with so many advancements in mud clients the price should at least be lowered. I would also like to see newer games. Time of Conflict has a great start in multiplayer from what I hear, and there should be newer action titles that also support it... tank commanders premis and the way the engine works can be easily turned into a wartime shooter r vehicular combat game, possible with ground combat as well. Either way, old games from so many years ago should be left as is or simply updated for current systems.

Re: GMA Games, What's coming up in 2015

Considering its $35 for what is now 6 years of use, its a completely negligible price. It works out to $0.25 a month, or an eighth of the well-priced swamp.Theres times when I need to hear 3 different voices at once. I suppose I could use sounds, but then Id need to hunt down quick and snappy sound files that speak the exact information that needs to be spoken. Actually, come to think of it, theres situations where the text that needs to be spoke in an alternate voice could have so many possible values, that I simply couldnt find enough sound files to represent them all. Even if I could, Id really like them to be no longer than a half second in duration, lest they block out the sound of any other text coming in.In short, sound files couldnt possibly cut it. Ive briefly considered using a couple, but the little effort involved in downloading just a basic sound file wouldnt be worth the minority of times
that they would be preferable over alternate voices.I conjecture we play different styles of games.

Can other clients speak messages in more than one voice at once? Can any other client speak a message without displaying it on the screen?

Yep, afraid I have to agree with @keyisfull. And when the last update to the client you made was 7 years ago, youll have to forgive if I dont take this seriously.

Re: GMA Games, What's coming up in 2015

Hi.Well Im glad that gma games are still being worked on. Even though I dislike vipmud I would love to see major updates to the awesome games especially shades of doom.As much as I like the sound of these updates I would really like to see a new game or too in the next year or so but I cant wait for the tank commander update.

Re: GMA Games, What's coming up in 2015

I hope VIP mud finally stops being worked on. $30 for a mud client is just a ripoff,. dont care how easy the scripting is. It just seems super overpriced to me when there are so many free windows mud clients out there that can do everything VIP can do and more. MushClients mushReader plugin covers all major screen readers too. But $30 is just way, way too much. It reminds me of JAWS.

GMA Games, What's coming up in 2015

From David Greenwood:posted January 8, 2015.Whats coming up in 2015?Near the end of 2014, we were occupied by a couple of serious problems introduced with JAWS 16 along with problems introduced with Windows 8.1. We have now returned to working on our planned development and maintenance list.In order, we are planning the following:1. The release of VIPMud 2.0. This will be a maintenance release which will include the following:- Supports most screen readers along with MS SAPI 5.- Fixes the folder protection problems created by Windowss introduction of UAC.- Works much better with Windows 8.1 than did VIPMud version 1.x.- Is now integrated into the new MyAccount system, which has the benefits of immediate key replacements, on-line ordering, and a user-controlled account system.- Includes many documentation improvements.- Fixes some bugs and implements several sma
ll features and changes.2. Release of LoneWolf 4.0. Like VIPMud 2.0, it will include:- Supports most screen readers along with MS SAPI 5.- Fixes the folder protection problems created by Windowss introduction of UAC.- Works much better with Windows 8.1 than did LoneWolf 3.x.- Is now integrated into the new MyAccount system, which has the benefits of immediate key replacements, on-line ordering, and a user-controlled account system.- Includes many documentation improvements.- Fixes some bugs and implements several small features and changes.Plus it will:- have some sound improvements.- include all 100 missions.3. Development of VIPMud 3.0. This will include many more new features than will 2.0. These changes will be decided upon between current VIPMud users and GMA Games.4. Release of GMA tank Commander 2.0. Depending on the schedule, it may just be
a maintenance release, or it might go much farther.Regards,David Greenwooddavidgreenw...@gmagames.comhttp://www.GMAGames.com
