Re: GPD Win Max?

@Chris, Yeah, my only issues are that the inbuilt speaker is less than satisfactory and there's only a single full USB port for whatever you'd need to use. That being said, it was the first model, so it was still somewhat experimental even on launch so I won't knock it for trying to stand out or be innovative.

Re: GPD Win Max?

IMO a portable machine can't really be a desktop replacement unless it support at least USB C for docks, and even better if it has thunderbolt 3, for external GPU. GPUs are what pull all the heavy lifting in games nowadays anyway. If you can drop a fast spinning rust drive in there, and hook up a monitor/ethernet jack, find some cooling to help the win stay cool while it's in the doc, then you got pretty much a PC Switch but much more capable

Re: GPD Win Max?

I love my GPD Win! My only problem with it is a weird battery issue where the unit will randomly die at 40 or 30%. I'm starting to think there's either a problem with the battery, or the driver that reports battery information to Windows is seriously inaccurate. Aside from that, it works great! If you're blind, you don't need a screen anyway. If you need a keyboard, connect one via USB or Bluetooth and you're off to the races. It's the true pocket computer I've always wanted. As for the Win product line being a desktop replacement, this is absolutely possible. Just connect the unit to a keyboard, mouse, and monitor and you're off to the races. It may or may not support a USB C dock, but if it does, even better.

Re: GPD Win Max?

The win2 I had was awesome for what it was but I sold it to build my desktop.Maybe one of these days when I no longer need to buy other stuff like music equipment and such, I'll pick one of these up again.I can imagine that with the TB3 it could turn into a PC Switch of sorts for some, or a desktop replacement as they say but that might be a stretch.

Re: GPD Win Max?

I can't find anything about the Micro SD slot. The only thing I found was HDMI, 2 USB ports, and a USB C Thunderbolt 3 port.

@Chris, Oh, I thought I heard it retained that. This thing looks to be only £600, but it is still in its crowd-funding stage.

Re: GPD Win Max?

Holy cow! This thing is a monster! It has Thunderbolt 3 which is pretty slick. I'm still trying to wrap my head around 16 GB RAM. My only problem is they keep increasing the screen size with each model. Still, this is really cool. If my original Win wasn't performing well, I might be tempted to get this one, although most of the specs would be wasted. Oh, and why is the micro SD slot gone? That makes me sad.

GPD Win Max?

GPD Win Max?

Anyone pick one of these up yet or planning to do so? I'd love to hear your experiences. As for me, I don't plan on buying one. As much as I'd love to, I don't have disposable income to drop on computers like that. LOL I'm interested to see how loud the fans get and if they will rev up like the win 2 with something as simple as watching a youtube video in a web browser. I'm also interested in how the keyboard is. I hear it's much better than on previous machines. I have heard about people emulating ps3 and I hear it runs the latest triple A games really well. The win 2 could run rocket league and games like that, but  even then alt tabbing around windows 10 while the game was running was sluggish. I'm not sure of pricing on it but I'm sure it will be north of a grand. So if you are lucky enough to get one, I hope you enjoy the heck out of it. Plus the processor they went with is no slouch either. It's the i5-1035G7. If you all want to watch vids on it then go on youtube and look up The Phawx. He has a good 10 or more vids about it. It's mainly gaming tests but to me it has really interested me to watch the jump we have made in 2 years. And I think I recall posting on here back then saying something to the effect waiting 2 or 3 years for these kinds of form factors   to have I5-I7 power in one of these things and we are finally there! So hopefully when it comes time to buy a new laptop, I can finally purchase a laptop that can fit in my pocket again. I still really miss the win 2 if I'm perfectly honest but the trade offs of that particular model were not worth it to me. I hope in 2 or 3 years from now, this kind of laptop will still continue to be produced.
