Re: Has anyone ever heard of this refreshable Braille display
Re: Has anyone ever heard of this refreshable Braille display The only difference is that it has 40 cells, and routing buttons for those 40 cells. Re: Has anyone ever heard of this refreshable Braille display
Re: Has anyone ever heard of this refreshable Braille display 15000 dollars, that's almost a car's price. Do they put platinum or something in these things so that they are so expencive. And, NDA, what's that for, you are just buying a device, that too an assistive device. Re: Has anyone ever heard of this refreshable Braille display
Re: Has anyone ever heard of this refreshable Braille display The [Orbit Reader 40] is 1,400$ USD. As for the Graphiti I had noticed it went on sale awhile ago but there was no listed price, you can check the thread [here]. Nolan had made some inquiries with a sales rep and the figure they came up with was 15,000$ USD, plus signing an NDA. I'm not sure if the price has shifted any since then, or if the current pandemic has effected availability or not. Re: Has anyone ever heard of this refreshable Braille display Yep, that site is out of stock, too. Yeah, don't know why Tony Grima said they were shut down. I think he was misinformed, sadly. But no one seems t have the Braille Me, so my friend had to settle for an Orbit instead. Re: Has anyone ever heard of this refreshable Braille display
Re: Has anyone ever heard of this refreshable Braille display Yeah, Dotbook, it's a bit thick, but, seeing other braille displays are in 10s rupee range mark, And the DotBook has many builtin applications such as E-mail, document editor, calculator etc, can directly connect to Bookshare and get books, and You can also get it with a perkins style buttons layout. It Has USB and wifi so you can connect it to whatever device and get braille output. It is marketed as a Braille laptop. It's better than those expensive models. Specially, when India is such a price sensitive market and 1000$, that is a lot of money in India. I think the 40 cell Dotbook is around 4 rupees and the 20 cell is around 35000 rupees. The official website is: https://iable.co/The Distribution and retail part of DotBook is not yet clear to me, but you can contact an Indian NGO "Saksham" at http://saksham.org/I've seen BrailleMe device being sold for as low as 18000 rupees, but that was due to student discounts and what not. Currently, the price of BrailleMe is 28350 rupees, which is less than $400. And no, the company is not shut down, They might not be able to supply units due to lock-down in India. Here's the official website: http://innovisiontech.co/You can check the pricing here: http://saktek.in/brailleme-from-innovision.html URL: https://forum.audiogames.net/post/534800/#p534800 -- Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector
Re: Has anyone ever heard of this refreshable Braille display
Re: Has anyone ever heard of this refreshable Braille display @7DotBook you say? Hadn't heard about that one. Hmm... Quite interesting, has a full qwerty keyboard like that of a laptop with a 20 or 40 row of 8 dot braille cells beneath it, and seems to be 1 1/2 centimeters thick. Company site is [here], bit hard to find a price point, article [here] suggests the 40 cell version is 60% cheaper than 2500$ USD displays, so 1000$? Another article [here] states the 40 cell version costs 60,000 Rupee's, with the 20 cell variant costing 40,000 Rupee's, so 780$ and 520$ respectively, so potentially putting it very close in line to the Braille Me in terms of affordability. Re: Has anyone ever heard of this refreshable Braille display The Braille Me is back ordered, until further notice. I just had contact with Tony Grima from NBP, and he said it could be many, many months before they are shipped to them.I'd actually ordered a BrailleMe for a friend yesterday, and had to get it refunded by Tony Grima.Even the company behind the Braille Me is shut down.I have the Orbit Reader 20 Plus, and I love it. Sure, it lacks cursor routing buttons, but I am getting used to that. Re: Has anyone ever heard of this refreshable Braille display Yes,I've met the people behind This BrailleMe device. Another similar device is DotBook, to which your's truely have contributed by doing beta testing. Both of these are from Indian companies, very proud to see that. Both of these are good braille displays. Re: Has anyone ever heard of this refreshable Braille display
Re: Has anyone ever heard of this refreshable Braille display Hm, interesting sales pitch. You can find a link to the Orbit 20 Plus [here], it goes for 700$. The base Orbit Reader 20 goes for 600$, and upgrading from the base to the Plus seems to cose 229$. Seems the upgrade involves swapping out the motherboard. For comparison, the [Braille Me] costs 531$ which includes the handling fee, though they seem to be on backorder because of the pandemic, not sure how this would effect Orbit. Re: Has anyone ever heard of this refreshable Braille display
Re: Has anyone ever heard of this refreshable Braille display That depends on what your looking for. You might find [this] comparison between the Orbit Reader 20 and the Braille Me informative, along with [this] review. Price wise the Braille Me beats the Orbit Reader 20 even more due to a recent price hike for the Orbit, so its probably the most affordable on the market. Re: Has anyone ever heard of this refreshable Braille display Yes, I've seen it. It's closest competitor is the Orbit. It has decent Braille, and a basic internal mode. The display is behind the keys which may seem odd to some, and the command set is rather weird, but otherwise it seems fine.
