Re: How would I go about contributing to the Espeak NG language dictionary

Contributing to the dictionary won't control accents.  For that, you need to actually edit voice data and things like that.  I know it can be done, but I don't know how offhand--just, it's worth pointing out that throwing pronunciation rules at it isn't about to make it sound significantly more human.  Fix specific words and stuff, sure, but change the voice itself, not so much.

Two things:1) I agree, the American English is... iwhwhwhw. And 2) you're going to need to use GitHub.  Install Git Bash, thengit clone https://github.com/espeak-ng/espeak-ngThat should clone it, but I really have no idea on their guidelines, or where things are located.  I'm sure they have a guide, though.

i’d like to learn how to do this too. Maybe we can make the American English voice actually sound like American English

How would I go about contributing to the Espeak NG language dictionary

Hi all, I have recently been wondering about the syntax of the dictionary files you can find on Github, how the phoneme tables work, and if I could change the pronunciation of certain words in a language I know enough about? I feel a little bit lost on Github as it is, and trying to find the easiest way to do this is... Well, not easy. By the end, I would hope to enable these pronunciation changes to be included in a build of Espeak NG that would also update with the new version of NVDA, if one comes out. Do you have any ideas on how I should get started, like how to first analyse the dictionary file, then how to test any changes that I could make to it? Thanks.
