Re: I'm planning to start a Linux Podcast
Re: I'm planning to start a Linux Podcast @prajwal...Dude, seriously... I don't mean to be rude, but seriously learn to use Google. And think on your feet. 99 percent of Linux distros have package managers. But my main point is that you need to start solving problems yourself. Asking on here is nice and all, but that doesn't mean that this forum should be the one-stop shop to answer all your questions in life. Now, I'll answer this question, since I'm nice: Don't use unstable versions of apps like Orca unless you absolutely know that the repository version is stable. Use your package manager. Re: I'm planning to start a Linux Podcast
Re: I'm planning to start a Linux Podcast @prajwal, I'm not sure if that should be something covered in a podcast such as this; due to the extremely massively incomprehensibility of different compilation methods, systems, options, etc., there really isn't a way that I can see Nuno69 could encapsulate them all. As for building orca... ever heard of the manual? I'm quite positive the manual describes how to build it. I knwo I'm being a bit rude, but believe me -- if you had gone on Gnome IRC and asked, "How do I build orca?" Your response would have been mostlike, "RTFM" (read the fucking manual). I'd say that, while I'm practically asking that you look it up yourself, my response is far gentler than you most likely would have gotten on a forum or via IrC. Re: I'm planning to start a Linux Podcast
Re: I'm planning to start a Linux Podcast Well who says it should be just 1 person.I eventually want to either run a vm on my new gaming box or make the current box an i5 4gb ram, with a 500gb hdd and 1gb amd radion graphics.A few distros come to mind.1. ubuntu mate.I have heard a lot on this.2. the sonar gnu, its a cheats way out I know but is something I have thought about.3. installing arch/ grml/ some simple debian command line barebones and setting things on it.Initially I did get arch on a system but I never managed to get gnome running on it I must have slarled a lot. However I have been going to a mens group of deal every friday at lunch and the leader is a linux guru, he uses kbuntu. It uses kde and looks like windows, he has kindled accessibility but I find precious little on access with the kde desktop.I have also heard xfce and lxde but have never set or used it.I have used old gnome 2 3 and shell on some distros.I us ed to use fedora 4 but understand thats quite high.I don't currently have the resources myself but maybe if a group of us could get together and do this, I don't sadly have all the tools right now, but it wouldn't always have to be audio there could be text guides as well. Re: I'm planning to start a Linux Podcast I don't know what gnome or Mate are. All I know is that Vinux is a platform based on Ubuntu which uses Orca, and you can tab around it like you're using Windows. When using a VPS server distro, you have no graphical user interface, so everything must be done with an SSH client on Windows, or the terminal on a Unix-like operating system like Mac. I would either go with Debian or Ubuntu, I'm using Ubuntu v16. Re: I'm planning to start a Linux Podcast I am particularly interested in how we can set up a podcast for those wanting to start a VPS. For instance, SentOS uses slightly different commands than Debian and Ubuntu. You can also talk about which Windows SSH clients are accessible and walk through the process of connecting and demonstrating the various commands and explain what they do. You could demonstrate using the package manager to update, upgrade, and install common tools, like Apache, or use the Wget or Curl command to download URL's, like when installing TeamTalk, which requires the gunzip and Tar xf commands.
