I've done it several times to start new game files with a team of Manamon that are not available at the start of the game. Just use the local IP of the computer that you're hosting the trade on and all is good. I've done it a couple times. I do wish there was more incentive to trading though, I more or less missed out on the bulk of trades and now most people who have wanted to trade have everything they need.
