Re: Macs rearing their heads again.

Hi.at Peter ah, thanks, that's some feetback I can work with, thanks again. The fact that VO gets boged down when scroling through pages with alot of content is quite unfortunate, it seams to be the same with VO on iOS devices, one of the online games I play is virtually unplayable because of the many graphics there are, under windows with firefox and chrome, everything works as it should.Regarding Exce,l, I mostly just need the basic functions of the program, what we mostly need to do with Excel is set up calculations, calculate prices and the like, so it's mostly add, subtract, multiply and divide, use percent values and stuff like that, so should be doable.I will see if the offer of the surface book still stands and decide then what I should go for.Greetings Moritz.

Re: Macs rearing their heads again.

regarding chewy.com and amazon.com, I have used both lately on my Mac and have had no lag issues.I also have not experienced the "busy busy busy" bug people are refering to, nor do I find that Chrome is inaccessible/difficult to use.  I will state that my experience, although not for any professional purpose, is pretty decent.  I do get a little annoyed when I try to turn quick nav back on and i get no feedback.

Re: Macs rearing their heads again.

Hi.braille would be a secondary thing ffor me because I myself am not a really heavy braille user, and with regards to portability I wouldn't want to lug around a big braille display for me and a possible stand to put the Mac onto because otherwise you would have the braille display in front and operating the laptop would be quite the strain.I decided to possibly go rent a MacBook and see what comes of it, the offer with the Surface Book is still on the table, remember that this would be the best equipped 13 inch version of the device, so yeah, decision is hard there.Greetings Moritz.

Re: Macs rearing their heads again.

Honestly, I am slowly moving away from the mac. Mainly, due to the Terreble braille support. My display disconnects quite often, and when editing a text document in apps like Byword, the braille cursur disappears. Also, when I am reading my email, braille lags behind speech. I also have issues when navigating on the web. Sites like chewey.com and Amazon cause Voiceover to lock up. I got a Windows computer for Christmas, and the experience is so much better. I am able to edit this very post and my display has not disconnected once. If you don't use braille with your computer, you might be okay with a Mac, but I would go with Windows if I were you.

Re: Macs rearing their heads again.

Hi. I am using mac for a few mounths and I find it easy to use and stable. We can't compare pages with word, because the pages is much better if we talk about accesibility. The format options are easy to find, easy to handle and in some situations, you can use shortcuts like in word. If you search for them on the Apple's support, you will find most things. I am sure that noone from there will edit pictures or inserting them. Text edit is like notepad so There is a good alternative. If we discuss from a gamer perspective, mac is not for you.

Re: Macs rearing their heads again.

My biggest gripe with VoiceOver is the performance on the web. I find it gets bogged down very easily. Any relatively complex website, like YouTube or Facebook and you're looking at VO taking a noticeably long time to react to your commands, often to the point you'll hear a lot of busies as Safari catches up with you. Do a read all on a site, like a news article, and 25% of the time you can expect the reading will randomly skip down a couple of lines, or get stuck somewhere and not continueChrome is even slower for VO, clearly the accessibility support is less optimised there so the performance is even worse. Because I spend the majority of my time on the web, I found VoiceOver to get in my way more than it was helping. The other reason I'm slowly gravitating away from the platform isn't strictly accessibility related and is more about the direction Apple's going with it by making it more like iOS by introducing requirements like notorisation exercising more control over what software you can run on it.For Word and Excel, back when I had to do a lot of word processing, Word wasn't accessible and I used Pages which worked pretty well accessibility wise. However, you can't edit a word file in place, so it might visually look slightly different so it won't work for colaborative work. Now, both Word and Excel have accessibility on the Mac, which should definitely handle the basics but I'm not sure how well the more advanced aspects, particularly of Excel, would work. Last I heard most people still did more advanced Microsoft Office work in a Windows VM but someone else could tell you more and it might be worth asking about Microsoft Office on Applevis.Lastly, any native Mac apps that have work put in them to be accessible do work great. All the built-in apps like mail or notes, social media like Twitteriffic, audio Hijack, LaunchBar for productivity which I still haven't found a good Windows equivllent of, all make the platform really great to use. Mac OS itself has some cool features, like a system-wide spellcheck, integration with an iPhone to call and text, and all of these are definitely big pluses. So, if you're planning to be doing a lot of advanced Web or Excel work, I'm not sure a Mac is the best choice. But for many other tasks, you might very well be fine with one. Honestly both platform have things going for them and it's really all down to your usecase.

Re: Macs rearing their heads again.

There is a current bug with Mail, where VoiceOver reads "insertion point at …" after the text of messages if you navigate through the message text with VO+Arrow keys. That has been fixed in Safari with the latest update, so I'm betting they'll fix the Mail one with next update. Also, yeah, people will give you plenty of "bugs and bugs and bugs and Oh my gosh vo sucks lol" and all that, but ask them what bugs they have problems with and, well, "uh, yeah bugs Oh my gosh don't get a MAC cause MAC Apple bad." So good on you for asking for specifics.

Macs rearing their heads again.

Hey and good morning. Some months ago I had the problm of choosing between a Macbook or a windows laptop. In first instance I decided for a windows laptop, but the situation changed abit. So, I'm sorta on the finishing track for getting a laptop, but the MacBooks are rising their beautiful lids again to draw me into their eco system, ok, i'm not drunkk,so to the point.A friend of mine told me abit about what he does on the mac and it basically fits my working conditions and things I need it to do, he also said that for certain cases you can also bootcamp windows on an external HDD or SSd.Also, my sister, heavy Mac and apple user gave me her 2018 Macbook for an afternoon to test and while I'm not really a pro with mac, I did quite like what the touch bar could do and how it worked out.On the other hand I have found a really interesting offer for a Surface Book 2, the seller wants about 1100 euros for the device, but I'm getting.Surface Book 2 13.3 Inch.Core I7 8550.16 GB of ram.512 gigabyte SSDGTX 10650 graphics card.In my book that's a pritty good offer, taking into account that the off the shelve price for the device is about 2700 euros. In the original topic people talked about a numerous amound of bugs that plague VoiceOver on the Mac, but, they didn't really explain what bugs there were, accept that VO has problems with longer documents, but not how long these documents are.So, shoot some bugs my way so I have some material which I can ask my friend about and see how he deals with those. So, shoot the stuff my way please?Resort to only currently existing bugs if possible, no need to ask for things that have been fixed a long time ago.Greetings Moritz.
