There's also a bug, well you can't really call it that I guess. But I usually have my swinging keys configurated to A, S, and D, but score is announced by S, and unfortunately this is not configurable in the key config.

Another problem I have is the one mentioned earlier, --I've looked back on it again and discovered that it is in fact, not the ball getting stuck between the wall and pattle. Instead, the ball could be right over me, I slap the x key, and it gets stuck on something and then loses a lot of energy. Then I realize, I'm not really near a wall. I usually am doing quite well until this happens...

A lot of the reason for success in this game is experience. You just have to play it a lot so you can figure out the movement patterns of the ball, and what keys to use.

The new game modes are lots of fun. I somehow got a velocity peak of 150. I guess that's what repeatedly hitting bonus items can achieve, but its very random if you can manage it or not.I'm not sure how doable this is, but could we have the different block sounds also in the attack modes? I'm guessing they sound different depending on the width and such, but I really like the wooden block sounds for example and it's a shame they can only be heard in the tutorial and the missions. Although admittedly playing level 10 and trying to get the best time possible is fun too, I think my best time is just under 4 minutes.Hmm, I was going to suggest some other small thing, but I forgot. Perhaps I will remember some other time.

You can get the ball to be stuck not only below the paddle, but also to its side. The ball is probably bouncing off the paddle, then hitting one of the side walls, then bouncing back to the paddle and so on.As for powerups, I would love to see them in the arcade mode. Most mainstream breakout games give you powerups inside blocks that appear randomly on the board on occasion, so all you have to do is break a powerup block with the ball to get it. Things you can usually get range from extra balls, different kinds (like the fireballs someone mentioned earlier), larger paddles and so on. Most of these powerups are timed. Another one I can think of that would be good for this game is a low gravity powerup, or one that would give you a second ball that would remain in play either for time limit or until it stops moving.On iOS, blindfold breakout uses a shop system, where you can use your points to buy yourself different kinds of balls, but I'm not sure how well such a
  system would work in marina break because you're not really supposed to lose your ball. It might still have a use for possibly getting one-time use special paddle swings that could for example hit the ball with twice as much force as a normal swing would.

Nods, the power-ups  would probably have to be on a completely different mode, so that the score attack scoreboard would still be an accurate metric for skill.

I guess both could have their own scoreboard, I think velocity attack would be nice to have a scoreboard as well if it gets implemented. Not sure how easy it is to create more boards but it would definitely be fun. But I do agree that we need to keep a score attack without powerups too.

Those are fun suggestions. Another one which would be interesting is like a velocity attack mode. I'm not sure how you would want to make the mode exactly, but the goal would be to get the highest velocity on the ball as possible, either a highest peak or just an average. So you could perhaps make it so you have one minute of time, and after this it would measure your average velocity over that one minute, or just the peak.Also... 2517 points, finally beat the score again. Lets see for how long this time.

It'd be neat if there were different kinds of balls. Like an iron ball that smashed more bricks but bounced less, or a glass ball that shattered if it hit the ground above a certain height or something. Maybe even a fireball that is less effected by gravity, but damages your paddle when you hit it,, so if you hit the ball too many times in that level, it breaks, and you are forced to watch, helplessly, as the ball slowly slowly loses speed...

Hello,@abdul: I can sort of see what you mean but that's also not the point of this game. If you get the ball high enough you won't have to swing it very fast, it's not about being the fastest. The ball is not just going toward you, it's actually going higher and lower on the screen as well, which is why it's quite hard to hit sometimes and it's why you can move your bat up and down.

I beat all the missions, but I do have trouble in the score attack mode. I can get to level 5 on a stretch, and my score is like 500 plus some change. I think the balance is well done, but I might suggest a slight increase in the racket moving horizontally, not much, its just a tad too slow. Anyway, You sir, are an audio game king, and have developed yet again, a master piece.

I've released a new update and fixed the internal error and ranking issue. Also, the game has keyconfig functionality so that everyone can play the game with any keystrokes. About the paning option and making easier modes, please give me some time.About the physics engine, I think the max hight the ball can go is properly decreasing as it loses energy. Hello,I've been trying this game for a while now, and honestly, I hadn't been so addicted to a game for a few months. I'm more of an arcade-ish game person, and score attack mode is really something I had been looking for without even knowing for a few years. Indeed, the game is pretty hard, especially for people like me who have always been stuck to audiogames, where realistic physics never appeared before. My high score still doesn't surpass 700, but I'm working on it. I like gaming, but I am honestly not too good at it. I do believe this engine has *A LOT* of potential for future improvements. Power-ups, special blocks or platforms and multiple balls are just a few of the things that would make this game even better than it already is. Of course, not everyone might like to have these elements around, so if they are ever implemented, I th
 ink these should be optional.Has anyone thought of having a mission designer, so that we could have user-created boards and compare high scores here on the forums or wherever? I think it would also be a good idea, if it's not too hard to do.As much as I'm still quite bad at the game, I don't think I want it to be any easier. Maybe I'm just trying to prove myself that I can get a better score or something, but I think it should be kept the way it is. This is a promising game with a lot of potential, I'm enjoying what I've played so far.The only thing I will say needs to be improved is the ability to hit the ball (the raquette should be slightly larger and you should be able to hit it with a little more leeway as to the distance between the ball and the ground.  I get the game is meant to be hard, but there are times wheree you are trying to hit and keep missing it just because of this small element.

Hi.That moment when you are almost finnished with the last mission and the ball gets stuck on a really high sitting block, argh, ball, I hate you now.But I have to say it's one of the best games in the last months and I really enjoy playing it.I still need to get my head around that moving system of the ball, I didnt encounter real physics till now in an audio game, I guess I could make my life easier somehow when I get my head around the ball moving system.

Very well said Ukio. The game is extremely well balanced. The racket swings slow to force players to time their swings rather than constantly mashing the swing buttons to get a hit. It would turn it into another button mashing experience, and one which I do not care to have. In my opinion, this game is so well done that people that are complaining about the way it works probably aren't trying hard enough, or maybe this type of game just isn't for them. Yes, there are a couple bugs to be fixed, and yes, it still could use additional modes or other things to do, but the fundamentals are all there, and they should stay right where they are.I've been closely observing how the physics of this game work, and I have one little suggestion to add even more realism. Correct me if I'm wrong on this Ukio, but the speed of the ball and how high it is capable of going seem to be two entirely independent variables. the speed can drop all the way down to zero, but the ba

On second thought, maybe you meant this to be a perk for the player for bouncing the ball off the racket, temperarily defying the laws of physics like that. Not realistic, but the alternative is to remove the perk entirely which would cause me to be hated by every one of you . I guess difficulty selection could work, but IMO it really is fine the way it is now. I think I could pretty much play infinitely if the difficulty was easier.But the ball getting stuck between the racket and the ground really makes me hate my life... LOLI'd love to see more game modes, but one of the things so well designed about this game is the balance, so those modes would really have to be balanced too. Same for powerups basically.Also... I got a score of 1685 points, however my fellow countryman Roelvdwal still seems to have more, I'll have to try beating that one. Go team Holland!I'm really amazed how your games aren't just fun to play, but also very different to most other audiogames. Hello,@sightless: Remember you can move above and toward the ground, and you can try to learn the ball pitches at each height before launching it onto the field and plan your next move. Or, you could have fun trying to find the sweet spot as I like to call it, it's very useful in later missions. Even then, there's no guarantee you will hit the ball, especially when gravity takes hold and the ball is going very fast. I managed to get it to literally fly around the table all over the place at one point, and trust me you will eventually get what I mean when you manage it, it's very satisfying.

Hello,I like the learning curve, as it takes a long time to get good and you aren't done with the game in five minutes. I definitely think the skill gap needs to be kept the same as it is right now, otherwise it will be too easy. In the days of mainstream arcades in their golden age, sighted people would literally spend hours and hours inserting coins into machines to get good at them and do massive score marathons. This game seriously brings back those days with a learning curve of sorts too, it's really clever and amazing.

About the racket speedI was told that some people want the racket to be able to move slightly faster, and more quick swings should be allowed. but it may make the game very easy in my opinion. I've spent quite a lot of time balancing the game, and I like the current difficulty. However, this is just my opinion, and if people have difficulty with it, I'll be able to make a difficulty selection or something like that. The most important point in this game is to predict where the ball will come. Since the current grabity setting in missions is relatively low, and the elasticity of the ball is high, 2 or 3 mistakes won't make you lose the game.About the paningI understand the racket isn't so wide, and hitting the ball with it is hard. Especially, for those who have hearing loss. Maybe, I'll have to create some preferences menus to make the paning width adjustable.Btw, I was so surprised to see more than 500 scoreboard entries

Hello and happy New year to all,Yet another fantastic release Ukio. I think many people would agree that you are one of the top game developers in this community. The physics simulation is fantastic and gives the game a modern feel, while the tone generated ball and boingy little racket sound bring me back to the old breakout game. It definitely needs updates and additions, but this thing has had me hooked almost constantly for the past day. I'm planning to do a game play recording where I do missions 6-10 and a few rounds of score attack just to give people a perspective on how I do things. As of now, my high score is 1043, which although not being the best, is still pretty good in my opinion. I will edit this post with a link once I have made the recording. It should be no more than an hour long, likely 40 to 50 minutes. Until then, you people have fun.Well, I finished it. As brad mentions, it makes easier to hit targets far from you, but I also use Key's strategy because the acceleration is so powerful and it is harder to hit the ball in the middle of the field. It might be effective when it comes to score attack though.

I thought there might be some errors in translations, so I didn't add the installer to the website. Since I have a damn useless internet connection right now, the update will be 2 or 3 days later.About the score posting, the server might be returning whether you made the top ten, not the actual position. This is because the server was initially designed to handle only 10 ranking positions.

This game is insanely frustrating in the beginning, and insanely fun afterwards. Unfortunately it is going back to frustrating on mission 9, but the first 8 I managed to do fairly easily. Mission 9 is generally hard, but it also seems to randomly make me lose the game for no apparent reason. Other people say this is because the ball gets stuck between two blocks, but I haven't really found an easy way to fix this. I have yet to try out the scoring mode.I actually go all the way up with my racket, that usually makes me hit the ball easier, but it does take a pretty intense amount of timing. But if I am almost at the ground I can hardly ever hit the ball at all. I kind of want to finish the 10 missions first before I try scoring... But maybe I should just try it anyway.

My only suggestions would be to make it so that the paddle might move a bit faster, and to let make it so we can swing the paddle a bit more often.  Right now, if the ball gets to low for velocity, I've been right on top of it, but because I can't swing the paddle quickly enough, I end up losing.  Other then that, I love the game.A friend of mine just gave a suggestion as well.  What if some blocks had powerups that you could get for destroying a certain block?  Like Arkanoid had for the SNES?

Hello and happy New year to all,Yet another fantastic release Ukio. I think many people would agree that you are one of the top game developers in this community. The physics simulation is fantastic and gives the game a modern feel, while the tone generated ball and boingy little racket sound bring me back to the old breakout game. It definitely needs updates and additions, but this thing has had me hooked almost constantly for the past day. I'm planning to do a game play recording where I do missions 6-10 and a few rounds of score attack just to give people a perspective on how I do things. As of now, my high score is 1043, which although not being the best, is still pretty good in my opinion. I will edit this post with a link once I have made the recording. It should be no more than an hour long, likely 40 to 50 minutes. Until then, you people have fun.

looks like you got a new score to beat key, because I just got 1256 points! he only thing that makes me sad is that I got the score with nearly no strategy, because if you go all the way down with your racket and always stay there it works the best by far.

Agree with Key. the mechanics are fine the way they are as of right now. More gae modes and powerups would be fun, but as it is, it's still one of the best games to play in short bursts and definitely something we've never seen before. Targetting the best blocks is harder to do than it seems... and something I still fail at. And not being able to swing the paddle quickly is smart... discourages button mashing which I'm in favor of for any game. lol

Hi,Are you only able to swing the racket once per time the ball is coming down? (You aren't able to swing again until it bounces off of the racket or the ground)? I ask because I tried to swing and missed, and then tried to swing a second later and nothing happened.

Okay, I finally got how it works. I'll try my best to help by explaining things in the readme later on.@severestormsteve1: There is a timer when you swing the bat. That means you can't keep swing it fast, but you have to time your swings.
