Re: Microsoft Starts New Accessibility Program

For those wondering about being involved with the program, this is from a Windows Central Article including input from Brannon Zahand, Senior Gaming Accessibility Program Manager at Microsoft:"If you believe you can contribute to Microsoft's efforts in game accessibility, there are ways you can reach out. Feedback can be sent to xacc...@microsoft.com. Also, individuals who reside in the greater Seattle area, are experienced using assistive technology in gaming, and are interested in being a part of the Microsoft Game Accessibility Testing Service can e-mail gamea11ytesteri...@microsoft.com for more information."

Re: Microsoft Starts New Accessibility Program

what we need to do is spread this news to big YouTube gamers. They are the ones who have a huge influence, whether you realize it or not. Even better, we need a member of the blind community to become good friends with a huge gamer so that the gamer really has a reason to push, so that their friend can play. Big goals, yeah. But that 's what we need.

Re: Microsoft Starts New Accessibility Program

Maybe not a large net gain, but another piece in the puzzle. As someone trying to get a foot in the door at the accessible development end of things, it's nice to have another option to hand studios when it's time to test. Not that there aren't forums like this to post requests on, but it's kind of a barrier to expect studios will join, post to and follow a bunch of forums when their time is already at a premium.

Re: Microsoft Starts New Accessibility Program

My only concern here is that developers "have the option". That's a start, but it's not an end. Most devs are not likely to exercise that option, if prior experience is anything to go by.I'm not trying to be a buzzkill here. I really hope this takes off, and I'm encouraged by the direction this indicates. I'm just not sure it will actually result in a large net gain of accessible games.

If disabled people can sign up to test games, then I wouldn't be surprised if it's only available for people in the US. If it's for everyone, then I would gladly help by testing.

Re: Microsoft Starts New Accessibility Program

@10Not necessarily. The blog post mentioned including members of the gaming & disability community for testing and feedback, along wth accessibliity experts, what that necessarily means i'm not entirely sure.I think the people who might be more in a position to know the specifics of that would be people like Ianhamilton_, Karen Stevens, Sightless Kombat, etc. The blog also mentions Kaitlyn Jones, of the Microsoft Gaming Accessibility Team, and groups like ablegamers may also be on the list. It would be interesting to know which communities or individuals they may have in mind, or as defender may be implying, how to apply for that kind of position, if possible. Admittedly, microsoft may want a more curated/vetted list of testers and representatives when working with devs.

Microsoft Starts New Accessibility Program

2021-02-16 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — General Game Discussion : magurp244 via Audiogames-reflector

Microsoft Starts New Accessibility Program

As reported by [polygon]:Microsoft has launched a program wherein developers can submit there games to be tested by those with disabilities and accessibility experts, and be given feedback. This program was announced along side their new [Accessibility Guidelines]. Per the article:“Developers now have the option to send Microsoft their Xbox or PC title and have it analyzed and validated against the recommendations provided in the XAGs,” says an Xbox blog post published todayA program like this could potentially lead to more games with a similarly wide variety of accessibility options. It’s also significant for players with disabilities to be able to provide insight, rather than being left unconsidered or designed for without their input.
