Re: PhantasyRPG: Old Browser-Based RPG, New Direction

Okay, two things.First, pets are pretty basic. I'd not bother, were I you. They'll probably overhaul this one day, but at this point they're basically just meat shields that can do some damage if trained properly. Issue is, if they do damage in a fight, they'll use some of the experience from that fight to level, which means it's experience you yourself don't get. Kind of silly.Regarding the gem/getting back to town, you're only partially right. If you used your mystic portal gem to get back to town, then there's a portal sitting in the town square waiting for you to use it. If you use it (to return to wherever you made it), then the portal disappears. As your level and wisdom increase, you will be able to hold more portals open. If you want to know which portals you have open, just return to the Cajar town square to check that out.Alternatively, you can buy items called Town Portal, which will do the same as a mystic por
tal gem but which aren't limited by your wisdom. You use the item, it creates a portal to Cajar and you go through it, leaving the portal open in the town square. They're available from Mandy's in the southeast quadrant of the city.Mystic portal gems, by the way, can shatter if used too much. I've had one last months, and then I've had one explode after the third use, so it's kind of random.

Re: PhantasyRPG: Old Browser-Based RPG, New Direction

Sorry for the double post, but is there a quicker way of getting back to town? The farther I get from the center of basically everything the more annoyed i get at having to walk back through useless encounters or giant stretches of pointless nothing like the crossroads. I did get a portal gem from a quest, but apparently you can only ever open one portal with it, which I didn't realize, so I basically wasted it.

Glad to hear they at least get a little better, even if I don't entirely agree with the story tile concept, haha. I did have another question I forgot to ask though, in regard to pets, how developed is the system? Are there pets available outside of the cajarian pet store? Do they have any form of progression, upgrades, etc? How powerful can they become?

Re: PhantasyRPG: Old Browser-Based RPG, New Direction

The Medalion of Nova is in your profile, actually. It's a reward, but it by itself doesn't actually do anything except prove that you did that quest. Essence of Undeath can be found too, but they aren't an actual item in and of themselves. They're a form of currency which you can use in an area within the graveyard called the mausoleum. You can trade essences of undeath for gear. I've already pointed out to them that they need to make this a bit clearer.Regarding the tile text, or story tiles as I call them? I completely, 100% agree with you. I've always hated them, and I always will. Were it up to me, they'd all have been gone years ago. It will get a bit less silly as you climb in levels, generally, but you'll probably find at least a few examples in almost every area. When you reach either the Southern Grasslands or Lower Sewers (not the regular sewers, but an area beyond a boss at level 65), you may see fewer of them. I wrote many
(though not all) of the tiles for those two zones - both were, in fact, sort of my pet projects when I was staff there a decade ago - and it shows. But yeah, with you all the way on story tiles. They're stupid and pointless and I'd rather just have descriptions of the area, even if they're not terribly interesting. If you had chosen differently in that quest, you would have gotten a Helm of Ill Intentions instead. Slightly different stats.

Re: PhantasyRPG: Old Browser-Based RPG, New Direction

Been playing off and on for the last couple days, and something that keeps bothering me is the goofiness of the descriptions. I understand it might be boring to describe 200 something rooms, but that's no reason why you should be having my character do completely random things or not somehow integrating these random things into the game play. This is exacerbated by the fact that the builder seems to create in a specific direction, and expects the player to walk in that direction, so that if you start walking backwards through the area the descriptions are even more garbled.I'm not asking for beautifully written 7-liners in each and every room, but I wish it could at least stick to the basic no god-modding, actual describing rules. At least don't make my character do stupid things without my consent, like standing in front of a suit of armor and whispering into its visorOK maybe that one was actually funny, but still. Also there are so
me items the game says I find after a battle, but that I don't actually see in my inventory. The medallion of nova is one, and the death essences in the mausoleum are another.

Re: PhantasyRPG: Old Browser-Based RPG, New Direction

The forest is to the southeast. Its entrance is at 86-89 in the South of Cajar map. Don't go into the area at 82-93. That's the Southern grasslands, and it's much, much stronger. As far as better gear? Check out the armour shop in Cajar for a better helm. Check out the merchant's guild for a leather vest or even a studded leather vest (which has a tiny HP bonus as well). You should be dual-wielding at this level just at the moment, since their equipment balance is a bit wonky. I suggest a blood-covered short sword in your main hand and either a basic wand (if you're a mage) or another blood-covered short sword (if you're melee). Bracers of Speed are good for now, and your starting amulet is all you're going to get.At level 15, there will be a bunch of quests which open up in West of Cajar, and you can earn a few armour pieces (helm and shield and amulet first, then chestpiece later), which are all definite upgrades. As far as wh
ere to fight: the farm is safe, the forest is a bit more dangerous but you might be able to handle it. Alternatively, kill Hellhounds, pixies and bandits in West of Cajar, but be cautious of ants. They're fairly easy to kill, but they hit too hard for their level and need balancing.

You can check your alignment by finding your class name on the main page (it's in the sidebar, near where your stats are). It'll sound like "images/human female novice" or something like that. Click on it, and it'll show you your bio page. This will tell you your level, plus show the gear you're wearing. You can click on "awards" to see profile achievements, or you can click on "info" to see how much you've lost and won, your alignment, all that jazz. And yeah, I can confirm with NVDA+firefox that the game is accessible. Labels are a bit weird, but it's accessible enough when you know what to look for.

Re: PhantasyRPG: Old Browser-Based RPG, New Direction

Pro-tip: the higher your wisdom, the more crowne you get for shelving books. It caps, but yeah. You'll get more than 8 crowne eventually.Second pro-tip: for every five books you read, you get a free wisdom point. No, don't buy the cheapest book and try to read it multiple times. Only the first reading of a given book counts.Yes, the books are a bit on the spendy side, but you can either do some quests to increase your crowne reserves, or fight awhile. Heck, players are free with their money, so while I wouldn't recommend begging in chat by any means, if you talk a little and mention that you're trying to read up on game lore and whatnot, someone might be nice and help you out. That vampire you found in the graveyard is a boss. He probably killed you horribly, and I'm sorry about that. I've been pushing them to remove him, or to give some sort of way to back away from him instead of just multiple options that all lead to combat. He
39;s tough, probably you won't kill him till level 60 or higher, unless you're lucky or clever. Just ignore him for now. those Vials of Blood you've been finding can be used to craft stuff, so feel free to hang onto them. You'll learn more as you go. Completely understandable though, thinking that a vampire would want your vials of blood. That's going in my next report. Heh.

I've never tried playing on IOS. This is something I will have to look into. I'm not sure which links are referred to as "explore.php" though. Do you mean the compass arrows, or the map tiles? Because you can navigate both ways, both by the compass and by the map.Congratulations on making level 7 fighter, by the way. If you want some quick experience, head out the west gate of Cajar. You'll land at 75-69. Get to 57-76, enter Eldron Bridge, then go north and west to talk to a woman named Elwyn. She'll ask you to read a few books (which are available in Cajar). Read them, answer her tests, and you'll get all kinds of stuff. Will shoot you up to level 9 or 10, easily.

I do enjoy the game, but there is a problem. I'm playing on IOS,  so I tend to use links above the coordinates to navigate until I know the area. VO reads them as explore PHP? Which is a bit annoying. Can they be renamed to north, south, east and west? That would be awesome. FYI, I am level seven fighter.

How come undead is listed as a race in the classes-by-race breakdown list? Is it a quest-only option, or something currently in development?

Re: PhantasyRPG: Old Browser-Based RPG, New Direction

You can do it that way, sure. You can also decide to do your referring later on. It doesn't have to be the person who brought you to the game. If you make friends with someone and want to set them as a referrer after level 15, you can do that. When you do this, if both of you are online, you'll get 5% extra experience from all sources. If your referrer donates (the game is pay-for-perks, not pay-to-win), you will automatically get a 5% kickback as well.So if you guys decide to play, and one or many of you want to set me as your referrer, I'll get more exp the more of you are on. Don't feel obligated though.A word of warning: once you set a referrer, you can't take it back.So yeah. It's not quite the same as a typical game where you set that as soon as you log in, or not at all. This one, you set up at level 15, so the term "referrer" is sort of misleading, actually.

Re: PhantasyRPG: Old Browser-Based RPG, New Direction

Brad, you don't delete your account. If it's not your cup of tea, just don't sign in. Eventually your account will be purged. It takes awhile though. If you get email from them and don't want it anymore, just opt out.As far as getting started:When you first sign in to the game, you'll see a bunch of links which lead to things like inventory and equipment. Don't worry about those right away. Below them (you can navigate the page by headings if that's your thing) you will see the main body. The very first thing you're apt to see is a list of the basic rules with a check box at the bottom which says you have read and agree. Check it, hit submit, and then you'll be on the map.Head north along the path (the only way you should be able to go, if you check the compass), then click "talk to Vexilar" when you see him. Right below the compass and the place which tells you coordinates and your remaining energy and all
that, you'll see what I'm going to refer to as tile text. This describes the setting. In some areas it's better than others. And just beneath that is where you're going to see "talk to Vexilar". If you click that, a little floatbox will open up with his dialogue in it. It should appear either right at the bottom of the page, or right where the "talk to Vexilar" link used to be (I've seen both). From there, the tutorial will give you options to figure out the game, such as telling you about equipment, shops and combat. The chat window is open just beneath all this info, so if you need further help, you can pop a question in there.

Re: PhantasyRPG: Old Browser-Based RPG, New Direction

Oh, believe me, I'm well-known on the game, and I've been in touch. I work pretty closely with the team, even though I'm not on staff. I advocate for the few accessibility hiccups to be fixed, and the game is quite playable once you figure stuff out.As for quests...there have always been quests, even as early as 2004 when I first played the game. But there were far fewer then than there are now. Many are of the "kill x of y" variety, and several others are fetch quests, but they're working on that to add more to the experience. The game isn't perfect. There are balance issues, and right at the moment, classes differ mainly in their stats and not in their abilities. They're finally working on that too. But if you're a little patient and want a foot in the door when stuff really starts to change, this is an excellent time to give the game a go.My main character on the game is Karakarn, so if you want a hand or need to
ask anything, feel free to hit me up. As I said before, I'm not staff. However, my game knowledge is basically second to none, and I can help players get their feet solidly if need be.

Re: PhantasyRPG: Old Browser-Based RPG, New Direction

Moderation! Since we've had no topics about this game I'll move to new releases even though I know it has been around for a while. I actually have an account on the game (I still get emails from them from time to time), and once remember creating and trying it, but as I recall back at that stage there were literally no quests at  all and combat and descriptions were very minimal. Admittedly, that was goodness knows how along ago, (maybe as much as 10 or 12 years), and with what you say about things I should probably dust my account off and look this one over.Btw, you might also consider contacting the admins about unlabelled things since that sort of thing is usually comparatively easy to fix in a turn based game.

Re: PhantasyRPG: Old Browser-Based RPG, New Direction

Okay, here we go.Human: vanilla. Both male and female have good physical attackers and good mages. By "good mage", I mean a character whose stat requirements will tend toward the magical side of things. Thankfully, this game has stat enhancers (called eggs, actually) with which you can increase your stats, so you can essentially build your character however you want).Rhizard: tend a bit more toward strength than any other stat, but a couple of the females (abby and wraith) have decent wisdom and mage potential. Rhizards are lizard-like creatures with scales and claws. They're reptilian.Eldron: Females are almost entirely magic-based with only one or two exceptions. Males are more magic-based than most other races, but not entirely. Think of Eldron kind of like elves, basically. Females are generally called Shyde, and there's in-game lore about them.Hounzalid: These are sort of anthropomorphic dog or wolflike creatures which are almost i
dentical male to female. The male has two lines that the female doesn't, the female has one line that the male doesn't, but in almost every other way they're identical, gameplay-wise. Hounzalid can't use magic, but instead of getting 2HP and 0.2 energy per vitality point, they get 3HP and 0.3 energy. They also get 1 extra AP (ability point) every third level (so they get 10 every 3 levels, while all other races get 9). At early levels, played well, a hounzalid will be very strong, but the lack of magic hurts them later. They have a potion-making system in the works, but it's in pretty bad shape and is not priority #1.So yeah, those are your four main races at this point.

PhantasyRPG: Old Browser-Based RPG, New Direction

2017-06-13 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — General Game Discussion : Jayde via Audiogames-reflector

PhantasyRPG: Old Browser-Based RPG, New Direction

Hey there,So, it's been forever since I've been on the forum, but here I am, and some of you might be interested in what follows. In the past, I've mentioned a game called PhantasyRPG (yeah yeah, bit of a silly name, I know, but bear with me). Some of my posts have been good, and some have been...well, not so good. The game has had a pretty colourful history. But the reason I'm writing now is that it's appeared to have turned a corner. Ownership has passed to a new and much more forward-thinking person who has both more time and more resources to give the game the love it needs if it wants to survive and flourish. Development is much more active now, and the atmosphere is friendly and quite welcoming. So now you might be asking, "Okay, so what's it all about?"Well, PhantasyRPG is a browser-based RPG with unique races, unique classes, magic, mining, blacksmithing, fishing, quests and a friendly player base. Som
e features are still being worked on and are thus incomplete, but there's a lot of active development on stuff, and I have a lot of faith that this is a very good time to get in on the ground floor. The game is about 98% accessible, with only a couple of hurdles to jump. I play it using Jaws and IE, but NVDA works as well. You get around the map using links, and the compass, if you want to go that route instead, is accessible as well. Each "tile", or room if you prefer, has its own text (except in a few areas), so you can sometimes remember an area because of the text there. The game is very newbie-friendly, with a small but pretty helpful player base. The Hounzalid race gets more HP and a few more stats than other races, but can't use magic at all, so they might be considered harder to play. That said, my main character is a Hounzalid, and I love it.If any of this sounds interesting to you, check out the following link:http://www.phantasyrpg.comA quick note if you decide to sign up: you will see eight check boxes in a row. If you're using Jaws, they're not properly labelled (they weren't for me, anyway). The first four boxes are the male versions of each race, and the next four are female (so the fifth box would be human female, instead of something like rhizard male). In any case, this is one of only a few small accessibility goofs, and I'm working hard with the development team trying to iron these out.Another such hurdle is an end-game area called the Temple of Shadow. It's full of puzzles and interesting bosses and the like. If you get that far, I will personally assist you with this area, since there are no really good landmarks and it's difficult to know where you're going or what you have to do.Anyway, I hope to see some of you there!
