Re: Question about torrents.

Hello,What if the torrent the person was trying to download could contain something that is no longer for sale? Where do we stand then?

Re: Question about torrents.

@aaronUnfortunately neither copyright law nor the Berne Convention grant you any right to download a copyrighted work without the copyright holders permission even when the said work is no longer for sale. There may be doubts about actual enforcement when or if the copyright holder cant be located, but technically it still constitutes copyright infringement. But talking about torrents in general terms is not illegal.Whether a given torrent contains copyrighted material, or if its illegal to download it, should nhot even make any difference provided that we stick to a general technical discussion.

Re: Question about torrents.

im running a 64 bit machine and bittorrent works fine for me. check if the torrent has peers and seeds. if not it might be the torrent that has problems not your client.

Re: Question about torrents.

Torrents are finiky little things, they need spam sometimes a little nudge, you learn to care for your torrents to get them working well. Its just something you learn to do if you torrent. I cant get sonars torrent to work though, it has no peers, which is why i just download it, that one is a perfectly legal torrent and the link is hosted on their site. Also when i used to play star trek Bridge commander, a mod i used to use had a really good torrent that just zipped right along, also a legal torrent, hosted on its websites. Not all torrents are bad, so you just have to be careful, if its hosted on their website you can grab it without fear.

Re: Question about torrents.

The rules as I understand them are not to promote software Piracy on these forums, which falls in line with other development forums given the current political climate.Things have heated up alot lately around File Sharing, some Corporate rights holders definitely do NOT want people downloading copyrighted content like movies, music, or games, regardless of whether its cracked, paid for already in another medium, or in general. Though there are alot of dubious claims going around and plenty of other people and companies who have a different point of view.Ive read reports that some torrent swarms are being disrupted by IPv6 peer flooding, considering your torrents work in 32bit win7 that could be the cause. To fix it you can switch to a different client or disable IPv6 in Windows, though disabling isnt recommended.Link: (http://torrentfreak.com/popular-torrent … od-150619/)

Re: Question about torrents.

@magurp244Talking about bittorrent and its technical issues is not promoting piracy.Bittorrent is a neutral and completely legal transfer protocol, and I cant understand why or how anyone would perceive a general discussion as illegal. On the other hand, telling people how they can get copyrighted content without permission may well cross the line.

Re: Question about torrents.

@staindaddictCheck that your bittorrent programs port is open for inbound connections. Its called port forwarding and must be supported by your ISP to work.If your ISP does not provide port forwarding one solution is using a vpn service which does offer port forwarding.Using a vpn also hides your IP address but be careful which one you choose.Google for the Torrentfreak article Which VPN Services Take Your Anonymity Seriously

Re: Question about torrents.

@gellmanI think there are some pro-copyright lobbyists who would disagree, but I wasnt trying to imply that BitTorrent itself was illegal. He didnt explicitly state what he was downloading and the IPv6 issue as reported by Torrentfreak seemed to indicate that it was an issue that mostly affected new (pirated) releases, im not making any judgements just making it clear about the sites policy towards Piracy.

Question about torrents.

Hi,Forgive me if this is not aloud.. I dont know the rules of the forum when it comes to this. Im not using torrents to download audio games, and Im not cracking anything, so I think its OK, maybe? lolAnyways, Im trying to download some stuff off of torrents, but Im using a 64 bit windows 7 machine, and my Utorrent or Bittorrent will not work. The torrents wont move at all. I find this weird, cause Im trying them on my laptop which is windows 7 32 bit, and the torrents work fine. Even the same torrents Im trying to download on the 64 bit machine.Does anyone know of a good way I can get the torrents moving on my 64 bit machine? Is there like a 64 bit version of utorrent or something? or any other clients that work better with the downloading of the torrents on 64 bit machines? Before you ask me why I just dont use my laptop to download the torrents, its because the laptop is extremely slow. lo
 lThanks for anyones help!R
