What is wrong with the key hook? A lot of apps use it. I don't want to deal with the quirks of .NET eventing and how they would handle the keyboard. Like say to handle when you press the alt key, the Tab key, some F keys, alt combinations, etc.Are there still issues with it? I don't understand why that would be an issue, it's just a way to handle keyboard events. There are some addons that do I think, but they are context sensitive to the app that they're running in, so it wouldn't be an issue. Key hook will be bypassed when holding Insert or Caps lock key. Moreover, keys will not be trapped if they are not in the key map. In other words, the keys will only be trapped if the application could potentially handle the combination. So unless you remap an action to the screenshot key, you can now take screenshots if you want, etc.Also, to support layered shortcuts in Jaws, the key hook is unregistered upon Insert+Space (only for Jaws users).I quickly searched online for layered NVDA shortcuts, didn't find any, if there are, let me know and I can also make a special case for that.The key hook is always reregistered when the application regain focus, so if you make a layered shortcut and realize you didn't want to do that you can just alt+tab away and back.Anyway so now you can open the NVDA/Jaws menus.Are there other screen-reader keys? I hope you are getting value out of it still even if the app is quite rough.Regarding the people wanting authors, dates, flares, etc. I will have a nice solution to that problem and I think it's what I'll do next. Don't worry, you will still be able to have just the text as well. The goal of this app is to be able to browse reddit really fast, so I am careful with read outs.Regarding the key hook not needed for NVDA, it's a good point. Although I still need to respond to key events to trigger actions in the app. Now I could use a key down event on the form, but it gets complicated, because sometimes I want the key processed by the text box and sometimes I don't. Having the key hook is a nice way to process any keyboard event and having full control. I don't want to fork that path, I expect a long tail of issues. If the key hook is causing issues with NVDA, like trapping keys you would like not to be, I can fix it, but I think I will stay with the key hook. Note that the key hook is registered only when the app is active (focused). Any specific reason why you don't want the key hook?Regarding the navigation being confusing when there is a lot of comments and sub comments etc, I was thinking maybe there could be a flattened view, but that and sorting will probably require persisted user settings and I'm afraid that since now I'm churning out new versions pretty fast it would be annoying to migrate the settings or reapply them especially since I don't have a good update/upgrade strategy right now. Not sure what I will use, like an updater strategy, an installer, I don't know yet.Note that the app is in the versions 0.9x because it is still in beta. There is one more bug though with nvda that I can say for sure. When pressing space on a post to review it, when pressing up or down arrows and if there is a blank line, it will repeat the previously spoken line, rather than saying blank when there's a newline. There is also a bug where Tolk silence doesn't work with Jaws, so I made it speak an empty string instead, but I notice NVDA reads "blank". So I made it use silence when Jaws is not used. I switched over to use that library for screen-reader output and it said it supported NVDA, but when I try it with NVDA I get no speech output. I solved the input problem with GUI textboxes. You can review the text, copy/paste, etc. I also added a global keyboard hook (that is only registered when you are in the application, it auto unregisters when you alt+tab away). This allowed me to override Jaws keyboard hook and finally intercept the keystrokes before Jaws, which solves a lot of issues of Jaws saying "blank" all the time without having to use a jkm file. Unfortunately, the new app is 3x heavier due to the new framework being used and published as a self contained exe file.Anyways, let me know what you think of the new version.
