Re: Stadia Accessibility

Hi guys! Sorry for reviving this topic but I would like to give you my little experience in this. So, iesterday I've received my Stadia controller and the chromecast ultra in a bundle. In my personal experience, I like the controller very much as well as the playability in the pc and with stadia on a TV. The first configuration of the controller is very accessible; I've done using the Stadia app in an android phone and there are simpe steps for doing all the configs. It asks you if there are some clights that blink or stay on or off but you can simply sole this problem in that the app tells if the controller is connected or not. each screen or pc you use for playing in Stadia has its own code for connecting the controller via wi-fi. I've had no issues linking it with my pc because the code is a 4 button push on the controller and on Stadia, the pattern is written so we can do without any problem also because you'll know if the code you type is correct or not via different series of vibrations . I could also use the controller for playing TopSpeed 3 by connecting it via USB with the computer. There is also a jack for connecting the hearphones directly in the controller, there is the possiblity of streaming directly on Youtube and other things you can do in the pc version of stadia. there are also audio cues for letting you know if there are issues with the controller. So guys, This is only my oun personal experience with this thing; I'm not a super gamer searching ofor the best gaming experience in the world; I'm just happy to play some games I like and, for now, Stadia gave me this opportunity. Ihave to play with the platform a bit more. Now playing MK11.  For me it's a great thing because I haven't money for buying a new consol; Stadia is giving me the opportunity to play with games I'ld never buy for the price or because my pc isn't so powerfoul. I'm liking it but I understand others can have different opinions or experiences with Stadia and its remote. Hope to be of some informative and sorry for my bad English.

Re: Stadia Accessibility

So, I bought MK11 for it because my poor 240 GB SSD just won't hold the Steam version. And... It's not bad, its like playing using AirPods, second generation, most of the time. There are points where the audio speeds up a little to catch up to what's actually happening on the server, but it's okay. I wouldn't really play it much that way, so yay $60 to NRS for... about nothing, lol. I wish they had demos or something. But, I'm still in love with Dissidia anyway, so I'm not worried much about MORTAL KOMBAT either.

Thanks for the input all.I've read here that there is a screen reader, and some basic accessibility. Google are being very transparent about what their stuff can and cannot do.

Hi.The whole interface is accessible since it can be accessed from the Stadia website, which is accessible. I'll buy a Stadia controller when there are more playable games.

Re: Stadia Accessibility

Sadly I dont think they have enough of a user base to do that effectively. They already tried to alienate the console gamers and tried to market those hardcore console games to the casual gaming market, epicly failing, since the only people who were really interested were people who were familiar with the gaming landscape. However, if they tried to do what the wii did by making some standout products that appealed to the casual market, and had been transparent with what they were doing, and launched stadia as a beta rather than as a finished product, they could have had a ton more success.

Re: Stadia Accessibility

@9Right. But to the company (in this case Google) it doesn't matter if you buy games and, in fact, the ideal consumer will not buy games, won't play them, but will stay subscribed and tell all their friends how great the thing they don't use is.  Which is cynical and overstated but nonetheless how subscription services tend to push markets.

Re: Stadia Accessibility

Subscription based, but you're only paying for 4k streaming and a couple free games a month. Anything else you gotta pay full price for whereas steem frequently has sales on already cheaper versions of the same game.

Re: Stadia Accessibility

@6Stadia is subscription-based. They don't need ongoing sales to make money.@7I dunno. It makes a great deal of sense to me.  It's just a typical scaling problem, the endpoint of the path we've been on that got us from one server across half the planet from you to Google-quality networking to CloudFlare to Stadia.  I mean hell, from the looks of things there's a real chance that even TCP won't be the dominant transport in 5 years.  And if Starlink happens, that'll be low enough latency that you can do this kind of thing at scale for the vast majority of game genres.  Yeah, you'll have to design for it of course, but then we designed for the NES too.  And to be honest, saying that now, I could see Google's strategy as planning to hold out for Starlink or similar, and using their early foothold to their advantage when it happens.  But who knows, Google is notoriously hard to predict.

Yeah and the lack of any standout games. I mean its been out for 8 months. Do they even have sales on their existing titles? Are those titles the latest versions? I heard of people having all kinds of physics problems with driving in final fantasy 15.

Re: Stadia Accessibility

@3It works literally because Google is doing it.  The way you solve that problem is you become Google and you go "yeah so we already have a network in every city" and you just run the VM close to the user.  Also there's a lot of games that can work on it--any multiplayer fps for one, any hack and slash title (those never have 20-30MS accurate combos for the most part), any card/board game, any top-down RPG like diablo...you can't run a suitably insane first person shooter or one of those Japanese bullet hell games on it, but that's not what most people play.  And yeah, sure you only get the people with good enough internet and/or close enough to your datacenter, but with someone as big as Google in the U.S., that's half the country anyway, and much of the other half isn't buying game consoles anyway.  And don't forget it's subscription too.  The market's limited but if you get it you keep it and it's a constant low-overhead revenue stream. But really all of that is in theory because in practice it turned out they couldn't quite do it, and weirdly based off the news I saw the main problem wasn't latency, it was "haha so about that high resolution video codec we promised" sorts of things.

Re: Stadia Accessibility

Accessible games, sure, there is samurai shodown, and I think mk11,. How they play is up in the air, as is what games are coming. I think the stadia team promised 120 games for this year, and dont think that even half that number has come out, and we are already half way through the year.

Re: Stadia Accessibility

I don't even know how Stadia would even work. They claim that they can get you the performance of a local machine, but from what I know of computer networking that is literally not possible --there will always be 10-30 ms of latency, and that's on really good days, and that's assuming that your network is one of the higher-class ones and has gigabit speeds on both ethernet and wi-fi. On the bad days I'd estimate a latency of around 70ms-4s, which... well, lets just say that that would be bad, especially in an FPS -- especially if its a really fast-action one. That's excluding the hardware latency factor.
