Re: Trying to Play Ultra Streetfighter Four

Hi. Does anyone know if classic street-fighter games are accessible too? I would love to get into more mainstream games but I only have consoles up to the wii.

Re: Trying to Play Ultra Streetfighter Four

All street fighter games are playable, as are basically 99% of all fighting games. I say 99% for insurance in case Im wrong... but to date I have actually never come across a fighting game that was not playable.

Tekken actually only uses four directions as well. 3d fighters are not known for using quarter circle motions much... that is basically only 2d fighters, with Mortal Kombat as an exception.

Re: Trying to Play Ultra Streetfighter Four

1:The game is a 6 button fighting game. Like Skullgirls. You have a low punch, medium punch and a high punch. Same goes for the kicks. Then, there is a final button that does a 3punch or 3kick. This doesnt mean that the move will punch/kick 3 times. This button will be used more later on.Each punch/kick has their own properties. Just because hi punch/kick is the strongest normal move, doesnt mean you should always use it. It is slower than a light punch, which means that my light punch will come out, before your high punch does, assuming we both launched the buttons at the same time. There are a few different types of moves you can use.Normal: This is just a punch or a kick. You can use the arrows to make them hit differently. Example. If you did a normal high kick, it will hit normally. But, if you held the down arrow, and then did a high kick, while holding the down arrow, the move would come out as a roundhouse kick, which will most likely kno
ck the opponent down, because that move hits low, and trips them.Special: Everyone has special moves. These moves can be performed in different ways. If you want, I can send you a DB link with all characters, and their move list.A special move will be more damaging than a normal move, because your character is not just doing a normal punch or kick.Special moves can range from a projectile, to a command grab, or just a higher damaging punch or kick. For example, Ryu has a fireball move. Its a projectile. To do this move, its a quarter circle forward motion, plus a punch. The punch will determine the speed of the move. Low punch will make the fireball slower, while the high punch will make it move quicker across the screen.A QCF, or, quarter circle forwards motion is done by going down forwards on your DPad.So, if i was on the left side of the screen, i would have to go, down, right,LowPunch. I would have to do the opposite, if
i was on the right side of the screen. When pressing your directional buttons, you should try to almost slide from one to the next. Dont push down, and then push forwards but, go from down to forwards with one hand motion. Then, when getting to forwards, hit the punch button.EX Special: These moves are like specials but, require a bar from your special meter. You have a meter called a special meter that builds up, while you are getting attacked, and attacking. This meter holds 4 bars and lets you do EX special moves, EX cancel moves, or do a super move.Back to an EX special. An EX special is just a special move that is enhanced with higher priority. It will almost be quicker than special moves, and hit stronger as well.To do an EX special move, just perform the special move, but with 2 punches/kicks instead of 1.Example. QCF plus high punch is a fireball but, QCF plus high punch and medium punch is an EX fireball.Super: Everyone has a super
move. To do this, your super meter must be full. The game has a sound that tells you when your super meter is full.A super move is a move that will be really damaging, if it hits. You can tell when youve done a super because there are sounds that will tell you if youve done it correctly.A super move is performed like a special move but, with extra steps. Lets use Ryu again. His fireball is QCF plus P. His super is a fireball that hits 5 times. Its performed by going, QCF QCF plus P.Ultra: An ultra is probably the strongest move in the game. All characters will have at least 2 ultras. When you do it, the character will go in to this little animated scene doing his or her ultra move.To do an ultra move, your ultra meter must be at least half way full. The reason why i say, half way full is because, your ultra meter builds, as you are getting hit. I think, in the game, its actually called, a revenge meter. There will be a sound as we
ll, when your ultra can be activated.Using your ultra, right when you get it will not be as strong because the ultra meter is only half way. There will be another sound, telling you when your ultra is at its max power but, you gotta be careful because if your ultra meter is full, it also means that you will die soon. Remember, your ultra meter builds, because you are getting hit.You will need to use that 3punch or kick button i was talking about earlier, to do your ultra move.Ryus fireball normally hits once. His EX fireball hits twice, and his super fireball hits 5 times. His ultra fireball hits 8 times. To do Ryus ultra, it is, QCF plus QCF plus, PPP or, the 3 punch button.Remember, not everyones moves will be like Ryus. Im just using him as an example.-2: BlockingTo block, you need to just hold back, or down back. When i mean, down back, you have to hold both those directional buttons together.
Back is just a normal block, while down back will block low attacks like that low roundhouse i was talking about earlier.Remember to hold back according to your location on the screen.-3: Menus.Im too lazy to type out

Trying to Play Ultra Streetfighter Four

I finally broke down and got the game for Steam. Now, I just need to learn the game mechanics, as it is quite different from Mortal Kombat. For one, how to you execute special moves. Two, how do you block? And finally, what is the menu structure of the game?

Re: Trying to Play Ultra Streetfighter Four

First off, I believe there is a menu guide for this game somewhere on the forum. I dont think its too far down the page either . Similar to most fighting games, you hold back to block high, then down/back to block low. Id recommend grabbing hold of Skullgirls if you havent already. The tutorials are fantastic, and will really help with pretty much any other fighting game .

Ah, thanks guys! Now the fun part is trying to land a quarter circle with my Xbox 360s game controller. And yes, Mortal Kombat only uses four directions, which is why I probably never got in to Tekken or Skullgirls as much.

Re: Trying to Play Ultra Streetfighter Four

Deng, just to clarify... the buttons are actually called light, medium and heavy, not low, medium and high. Just in case people go looking somewhere else and find different terminology. The roundhouse kick is actually usually a standing heavy kick. A crouching heavy kick is a sweep, not a roundhouse... the animation also looks different. A real roundhouse kick is a higher kick that would connect with the thigh or hip of your opponent whereas the sweep kick is performed low and usually hits the heel. Again, just for your information... thanks for typing all that out, I was going to until I saw your post. Just some things that I wanted to point out... also, a quarter circle forward is not just down forward, its actually down, down+forward, and then forward. This is because the game references an arcade joystick which has a full 360 degrees of movement, for those who didnt already know. So a quarter circle actually involves three positions on the joystick, not two. but wh
en playing with a DPad, using down forward as a reference is ok, but no FAQ will say it like that. MK is the only major fighting title that actually does not use quarter circle and half circle motions, if Im remembering correctly... that game actually does only use down, forward and down, back. But King gamer, Dengs post is a great reference to start from. Use that, and the games training mode as well as the character specific combo challenges. timing for combos will be tricky at first, since you cant just mash buttons and get good... but youll get it eventually.
