It's like no one wants to put in the real effort to make the quality of these voices better. These are really the only voices I have seen for any south African languages to date. Re: What do you think of these South African text-to-speech voices? Agreed. They should have rather spent their time on the others. I was testing the Zulu and Xhosa Male voices. The Zulu one was quite soft. I think the Xhosa Is the best in terms of sound quality. I love the Venda Voice because of how bad it is. No seriously, listen to that one again. You’ll see what I mean. Also, my trial for the Afrikaans voices finally ended! Kind of broke my screen reader though. LOL. Most of the other languages on that list are in serious need of a speech synthesizer, and they seem to be good enough. Re: What do you think of these South African text-to-speech voices? Just go to nvda, voice settings, go to the setswana varient on e speak. From there, either find some text in tswana or listen to the numbers. I can't comment on how good or bad it is. It seems quite different from languages like xhosa and the like, though that h l sound is present. Re: What do you think of these South African text-to-speech voices? I know it has Afrikaans, but sitswana? Those demos were not recorded by a native speaker. I remember the developer commenting in a blog post that he wasn’t able to pronounce some of the words properly. That definitely shows, too. Do you have a recording of Espeak speaking sitswana? I know someone who was on the beta Team for the Afrikaans and maybe the English ones. She always told me how the female Afrikaans voice gave her a headache. I think the Xhosa Voice sounded the best. Then again, all of them need some work. The Afrikaans pronunciation is almost flawless. I have never had any pronunciation errors in my entire time with these voices. They are half baked however. I’m tempted to write a review, but what difference would that actually make? We all know that speech synthesisers never get updated. Ever. My trial hasn’t yet expired and it’s long passed the seven day period. Also, to purchase these voices, you have to submit a form. No, there is no automated registration system. You have to fill in the information, then you have to send them the money via a direct bank transfer. Then, and only then, after they have received proof of payment, will you get your license. What do you think of these South African text-to-speech voices? Hi guys. So, I really would like to get your opinion on these. I know you may not necessarily understand the languages that are being spoken, but I’m looking for feedback on the quality of the actual voice. I can tell you that the pronunciations are almost flawless. Again, I’m looking for quality on the actual audio quality of the voice. These voices cost around US$30.
