Re: accessible Arch installers
Re: accessible Arch installers @adel.spence,Another way to start Orca, is to hold down the ALT key and press F2, and then type orca and press enter. Also, is you do a search online for Ubuntu accessibility, you should find the Ubuntu accessibility documentation. Re: accessible Arch installers
Re: accessible Arch installers Have you tried running orca -r on the terminal? If you think a error message would appear, can you make a foto of your screen with your phone and then use something like ocr text scanner on android to get the aproximative text and paste it here? Is it too much for a stupid linux vm? Re: accessible Arch installers
Re: accessible Arch installers Try orca -r on the terminal and see what happens, maybe the shortcut isn't associated with anything.Alternatively, you could have a look at speakup, but, as it's a kernel module, you'll have to get a distribution with it preconfigured since it can be a pain in the but for a beginner to install and configure, say, on ubuntu. Re: accessible Arch installers
Re: accessible Arch installers Note that the above keyboard shortcut does *not* work for *all* linux distributions. Unfortunate but good to know. It will work for Ubuntu though, or it should. Re: accessible Arch installers Looking at talkingarch, and tarch, I tested this with both. Talkingarch will let me do systemctl start dhcpcd no problem, and I can move on. Tarch however will say that the unit file isn't found, and it doesn't exist. I set both of these up in vmware player 15.Edit: Was able to get this all resolved. I'm guessing this'll be fixed later, but here are the instructions for the time being.DHCPcd was not installed, so you'll need to get it manually. You can do that here.https://www.archlinux.org/packages/test … 64/dhcpcd/Click download from mirror. Once you have the package, put it on a flash drive and give control of it to tarch. Now mount the drive.mkdir xyzmount /dev/sdb1 xyzNote that you might not be sdb1, this is what mine was.cd xyzpacman -U dhcpcd package fileNow you should be able to do systemctl start dhcpcd and get an IP address. Re: accessible Arch installers
Re: accessible Arch installers @5, you need to do systemctl start dhcpcd, not dhcpcd on its own. Running a daemon without executing the unit file to make it run properly will usually not accomplish anything other than tying your terminal to that process (unless you run it with & at the end, which has its own problems), and you only have 6 terminals available by default (though you can have up to 63 if you happen to have a keyboard with 63 function keys).I would not recommend arch Linux as a starter Linux distribution. Its probably one of the furthest distributions from "newbie friendly" available (besides Gentoo and LFS -- and LFS isn't really a distribution, per see). Use something like Ubuntu Mate, Xubuntu, or Debian if your new to Linux, not Arch. Re: accessible Arch installers With talkingarch, you'll be dropped into a command shell. From here, you'll need to set up things if you want a desktop. Their are distributions that come set up with a desktop, have a look at ubuntu mate, or debian.I did try this, however, dhcpcd doesn't seem to work, as typing it gives me that the unit file isn't found. This is running on vmware player, with the network set to share the hosts ip.
