Re: all spoonbill software games As part of creating the audiogames archive, one of my recent contact emails has been to Spoonbill, explicitly requesting permission to host and redistribute the games.The developer specifically requested that no distribution - of any kind - occur, beyond a link to the existing games page.His response was prompt and clear - so I'm going to lean towards the side of those of you who haven't received games had an email issue somewhere in the line.Out of respect for the developer's wishes, it would probably be a good move to remove the above download link.Given my experience, I'm sure Ian would have no issues if some of you folks chose to contact him as well to clarify the situation/answer any other questions you might have. Re: all spoonbill software games Hello and good morning, hey, that brings back some nostalgic moments, I requested the Uno game back in 2010 or 2009, I am not actualy sure on that, but I still remember that I really liked this game, I also ordered that breakout game which was not accessible sadly, but it was still fun to listen to when my sighted friend played the game.I actualy don't know what to think about the matter if it's ok to host all the games and load them up in a zip file.I personally think that it's ok to host those games, I don't know if this developer knows about the audiogames forum, maybe he' doesn't know.I think it would be good if he would come on here, then it would be easier for him to see who's playing his games, and comunication would also be easier, at leased I think that. Re: all spoonbill software games That's the problem though. I actually requested BG Solitaire by way of email. This was prior to the start of the year. I still, however, have not received it. So if their reason was feedback, well they're not getting it because how can you rate a game you can't even get? If their reason was tracking, breaking news! There is no proven way to track nonexistent users! So yes, I agree that if Spoonbill were indeed emailing customers their software products and such a topic as this were posted, that would be quite rude and uncalled for. However, since:1. Spoonbill is not being affected negatively due to there being no profit associated with these games,2. the games being proven unavailable to users, and3. One user who must have acquired them during development or thereafter when they were still being distributed by Spoonbill itself had copies of each,I see nothing at all wrong with distributing them. If no one else gets to it I'll l look at the lisence agreement for the games. If it states that distribution is prohibited, then this post can basically be vetoed. After a while with minimal feedback, they may get the impression that no one cares about their games and so they decide to quit offering them.So if developers stop offering free games because people create ways to bypass any means of getting feedback they may have set up, you'll have no one to blame but your selves.There is also this. While the games may be free, they are not in the public domain, per copyright laws, the owner of the intellectual property has the sole right to distribute his works. Unless you have specific permission from Spoonbill Software to redistribute their games, you are actually guilty of copyright infringement.So, not only is redistributing Spoonbill's games without their permission a slap in the face, it's also illegal. Yes, there were people with that much negative kharma. A few people still have 0 kharma because they were carryovers from that system and are still slowly recovering their kharma. He had over -100 karma, which was unfair and cast a shadow over any post he made on a new thread, for no particularly good reason; but I still don't think that the system should have been taken out, we even all pitched in as a group in order to raise up his karma artificially, and even though we didn't get to 0, it would have probably evened out again eventually.Karma isn't karma if it's only good, I'm pretty sure that's called darma, but I could be wrong. It was a useful system that could probably save some people from starting flamewars, if they knew the person making the original stupid comment had an opinion that already wasn't considered useful by the community, and possibly keep new developers from getting the wrong ideas about our community as a hole because of some loud idiot's statements. Re: all spoonbill software games He puts the software on request because he may not have space to host them on his website, or who knows, maybe the site doesn't allow hosting of exe's, if he's using a free host, some have kinda ridiculous file-size limitations. He uses dropbox to host the files, so that's why I'm thinking it's hosting. Nevertheless, you shouldn't post an entire zip, and still request the games from him. Remember, free games are to be appreciated because free audio game development can only go so far because of sound and some programming languages, so even if they're on request, at least they're still free.
