Re: are their any good harry potter fanfics with these criterias? It's been a long time since I've really been invested in a Harry Potter fic. It happened far more several years ago, but then for lack of better terminology I grew out of them. For the most part I stopped getting as wrapped up in individual HP fics and replaced them with books. So when I recommend HP fics these days, I either haven't read them or I have fond memories of them that I fear might not hold up if I reread them.As I said in my post, I hadn't read Learning to Breathe, and I figured I wouldn't read it. I have other books i'm meaning to read, and I hadn't thought about Learning to Breathe at all since I'd recommended it; it was just something I had remembered from other recommendation threads that would probably fulfill a request someone else had. But then I saw Jimmy's recommendation and I figured why not? It's only 150k, worst case scenario I just stop reading a few chapters in or I waste 3 hours reading to an unsatisfactory conclusion considering that the story isn't complete. It turned out to be the first HP fic that I can really remember pulling me in and not letting me go in at least 7 months if not much longer.Usually when I read a fanfic, I have to make at least one concession. That's primarily why I stopped reading them. Does the fic have good writing? Well then it probably has shit character development or it's really cliched. Does the fic have good character development? Maybe it sacrifices some of the development time they should've spent on the minimal worldbuilding required for fanfiction, and the setting really sucks for one reason or another. This fic picks a few things to do, and it does them well. It has a reasonably tight plot, avoids using most really dumb cliches that I can think of (I can only read so much fucking evil Dumbledore OMG), and very nice character development and motivations. And YMMV I suppose, but I thought the writing flowed very naturally when it needed to. I usually like to read longer stuff, but this fic is great even though it's shorter (ish) because the author didn't try to drag it out. I can think of many ways the fic could've been made terrible if it was extended to 300 or 400k. So I'll rate it a 9/10 personally. The only warrior Harry series that I really know of is a crossover with the 2003 series of the ninja turtles.If you haven't seen the series, like me, then it's a good read, but if you have seen the series, you'll notice that it's just a retelling of the series, only Harry is incerted in and a few changes have been made to make him fit into the series.There's a Stargate crossover that does something similar. A common interpretation of that is that in a completely magically-charged place like Hogwarts it wouldn't work at all, but in a normal house or whatever, it will work as long as you don't use magic around it. The closest I see to it is people making magical alternatives to things, like cell phones out of the two-way communication mirrors and what not. Unless you count guns as modernizing, in which case there are fics like Brutal Harry where Harry has fun with assault rifles and grenades and such. I don't think I've ever found a Harry/Cho fic I enjoyed, partially because it's one of the least popular pairings that isn't way out there, and partially because I've never been interested in the pairing. Mostly both of these stem from how Cho was portrayed in canon. Compared to Hermione (best friend), Ginny (primary canonical love interest) and Daphne (mysterious blank slate) most fanfiction writers probably don't even think about writing about Cho. These stats don't take pairing into account, but there are only 857 stories on fanfiction.net with both Harry and Cho marked as major characters. There are 2000 with Harry and Daphne, 22k with Harry and Ginny, 33k with Harry and Hermione, and just because I was curious about this, 44k with Harry and Draco. It was clearly written with a lot of tongue-in-cheek humour, which I appreciate.Some of my favourite HP-universe fanfic is actually the James Potter stuff by G. Norman Lippert. It gets a bit zany eventually, but a lot of it's done quite well, and he gives the houses and the characters in general a whole hell of a lot more depth than most of the HP universe really got from Rowling. BTSync is now Resilio sync, so it should work, in theory.I'm using the latest version and it works reasonably well, once you get use to how the program works.It looks like a webpage with a few focus issues, but easy enough to deal with once you get use to using it.I don't know if it will work if you're using an older version, before they turned it into this webpage layout, because when I updated I didn't bother downgrading.I read somewhere keys made with a newer version won't work with the old version, that would most likely explain why a lot of people have issues with things not working at their end. When you make Harry a god, you also need to make Voldemort (or whoever else he happens to be facing) a god. Sometimes, they don't do that, and it's just boring then. I saw a story once where after 2 words the author just said they had no idea what to do anymore and ended the story with Harry killing Voldemort in some ridiculous way and having some kids or something. Which is how most Harry Potter stories end (including the original) but at least some of them take more than 2 words to get there. That being said, this guy does that kind of thing sometimes IIRC. I think The Potter Brand is the one you should check out first, because in some of the others (Ex Machina) I don't think it was Harry that was the god.
