has anyone gotten this up on Linux based system, I'm trying on Ubuntu 14.04 and server appears to start, but upon trying to connect, i get a line 348 error in a log in the client, so i think the server is running. I'm a little unclear about the two directories that need configuring, I have apache configured but I'm new to using it and could this be part of the problem.I'll try again and see if anything comes of it and report it here.

Actually on further reflection and since i've had time to think about this. Since most people seem to not be using the server engine for what it was originally released for. I'm thinking of going back to the original just having the installer setup and having it connect to dmnb, but though's who want the engine and intend to use it can request it from me. And if this happens, i'm not just giving out the engine to anyone.

Hi Danny, I guess this is being used as an attempt for others to just clone DMNB, even requesting copying your ship classes directly. So, it would definitely be better if you just release the game as an executable instead. That way, we don't have to bother extracting the 7z archive.

I wasn't gonna clone it, build my own thing, but since the server appears to be unstable anyway... yeah. After trying again, sometimes the server would crash, another error 348, one time it wouldn't die and i had to kill -16  which i can't remember anymore...

That's exactly the same error komodo reported he was getting. I'm beginning to wunder weather it has to do with the server itself, what specific specs, any of that. I'll dephanatly have a look into that when I can, this is a bit difficult to troubleshoot though since this ishue hasn't appeared on any of the servers i've tested the game on.

So far, I have come to the following conclusion:The server is not trying to access invalid memory addresses (error code -1073741819);The server is not trying to perform an invalid floating-point operation (error code -1073741680);The server has not reached a debugger breakpoint (error code -2147483645);The server is not trying to execute an illegal CPU instruction (error code -1073741795); andThe server is not trying to execute a privileged or system instruction (error code -1073741674).By executing this error catcher, I have learned that error 11 is not known by the PureBASIC error database, unless it is application-defined. @post 50 be sure your not building on inderion station and if you are, that your not building over the default room. For ships, simpply select build new structure from the builder staff and once its created, teleport your character to it with the admin staff. Then ya can get building.

Hello!So, have uploaded the files, set the directories, opened ports. So far so good. But then/dmnbserverit takes about 10 to 20 seconds with no text appearing, then the server crashes and respawns.Running a dedicated machine so RAM is not a problem here.

@atlan Its because you need to build a few locations. Once again I refer you back to the first post, in which I clearly explain that this is a codebase for others to build their own games/universe off of, not as in the case with ultra power where you throw up a dmnb server and your done. So that's why most of the stuff like ship classes and such are missing. @prometheusmoo, does the server generate an error log at all?

Hi. I got it set up and running. I'm on the default ship, but I can't seem to use any of the consols to go to any other planets and stuff. I did get it working under windows though.The first dir is the path to the place where the files need to be copied to.for example: c:/downloads/server/www/data/The second path is just /data or something like that. I use a portable web server server for it. I tried to build a room, but I crashed my account by doing that.Now the only thing I need help with is instructions for building stuff.I got some cool ideas for games I plan to make with this. Especially once I get flight, fighting, and other stuff working right.Thanks for releasing this.

To though's who have set it up on linux and who have tried to run it only to discover the server has crashed, their's a critical bug if you have 512 megs of ram that causes the server to crash the instant it receives data. And yes, that would be awsome for translating. And as I said before, i've only tested it a little on windows. I myself don't have apache nore do I know how to set it up on windows, so unfortunitly your on your own in this regard. You can still connect to dmnb and any other games people start with this engine fine, remember this is designed to be more like a codebase that you could run your own game off of as aposed to an asociation of servers like in ultra power.

You can normally build terminals and cargolifts and in fact almost everything using the builder staff. Terminals are basicly just consoles with the sol function of galactic network access, so they can be called whatever you choose. As for adding items, in the middle of where your console is placed when you go to edit the .ship file, something like the following.consoleitem plasma rifleconsoleprice 12000Then reboot the ship db and you'll have a fully functional galactic network terminal.Now as for shipyards, what you wanna do is this. Open the .ship file, and anyware in the file though i'd do this at the end, add the following lines.shipyardshipyardx 20shipyardy 0shipyardz 0endshipyardNote shipyardx, shipyardy, and shipyardz can be anything, that was just for exampples. It is a lot more complicated than it is on LInux, and, frankly, Linux is better for this kind of serve.Below, I have listed the system requirements for the game:At least 1.0 GB of RAM or moreA 64-bit processorAt least 2 GB of disk space for ships, planets, ship classes, etc. The 2 GB is just a precaution.A Unix or Linux system with Apache installed and the web directory in /var/www or /var/www/html. and the /var/www/data or /var/www/html/data directories created. Note that if you do change the dir2 parameter, it must be publicly accessible to the internet.

hello. i have a friend who set up an apake server. but here's a problem. he put in the www folder the dmnb server and he configured the dir  as it said  in the readme but it  still doesn't working. i mean  that server is ok to connect, but  no ship sounds, infact  no any sounds excepting the default stepsound.

In that case, make sure dir reads as /var/www/dmnbserver and dir2 reads as dmnbserver. With out the period. Also, apparently this was not explained clearly enough, but you keep the server where ever you upload it to, don't move the ships directory to the /var/www/dmnbserver directory. The only reason that's their is to download ship files when players connect, else you won't have any sounds when you connect.

May I point out that though's system requirements are a little bit off? The server can be run on windows, it just requires some knolige of setting up an http server. Any http server will do not just apache and it doesn't have to be in /var/www, I provided that for exampple. As for the 1 gig of memory being required it seems as if this requirement is null, since komoto reported he couldn't run the server on a machine that had more than 512 megs. I'll have a look at this problem.

Guys, I can't exactly eliminate the http server requirement because that's how ship files and player files are received by the users connecting to your machine. Like I said, this isn't ment to be a you setup and instantly go type thing like rtr. @jonnyboy Try something like, chmod 700 dmnbserver then do ./dmnbserver & and everything should be running.

no please, please dont' let this have happened! I liked the central servers just fine. This is why I turned my back on ultrapower during the time when it had multiple servers. the reason for this is is because other people's servers were unrelyable, lagged the hell out of the game, and crashed every 10 minutes. And when ever a developper does release the server with the client, usually the developper doesn't want to run the server any more and takes it offline.

I've allowed it through iptables and everything. Any idea what would cause an error on line 600 with an error code of 11? I don't know if I'd ever use this. I just thought it'd be kinda cool to look at.

Cruiser destroyer: That depends on whether you're using Windows or Linux. Personally I'm using Debian. I'm still having problems, though I believe that's due to my web server which is set to not show entire directories when there is no index file. Since I really don't know what I'm doing, I've given up for now since I don't want to break my Nginx and end up allowing other folders withi my webroot to be visible. Ether way, I'm getting off topic. The readme explains what you need to do to get it running. It differs a little bit depending on which OS you're trying to use.

Cruiser destroyer: That depends on whether you're using Windows or Linux. Personally I'm using Debian. I'm still having problems, though I believe that's due to my web server which is set to not show entire directories when there is no index file. I've been trying to get this running on Debian for quite some time now. It runs perfectly fine on Windows but I can't seem to get it running on Debian. I've made the file executable, opened the ports in my firewall and run the server. However, I am completely unable to connect. The only thing the errorlog file says is: "Error on line 600, with an error code of 11".  I previously thought my web server may be the issue, but once I realized that i was able to connect on Windows without a web server I don't believe this is the issue anymore. Anyone know what could be going wrong here? I really wish that error message was more descriptive.

I happen to like this idea. the reason of why UP was like that and people's servers got hacked was because 1.there was a server list and the servers were not secure.2. some people are really shitty... Lol. But I think I might know of why the binary is not working... Yep. It's a 64 bit compiled binary and not a 32. If there is a way could that be compiled? If not, I have another way I can work around this. Use wine with the windows .exe extension. that actually works well on here.

@connor Relax, I have no intentions of running it like ultra power and just flat out not paying attention. This is still dm, its still got my touch and handwork on it, and i'm still running a server. That's specificly why I posted the testing server's connection info into my second post. The main point of this was because lately, i'm seeing a lot of intrest for people to make an audio version of any space game as aposed to setting up a mud base and trying to do soundpacks, so I decided to share my space flight engine with the rest of the community. Further more this allows people if they so choose to extend the dm universe as I can't keep maintaining it forever on my own. So no, it does not mean the end of dmnb or another ultra power, and it does not mean the dm universe ends here either. In fact what i've done is allowed for it to be extended longer, rather than just taking it with me when i'm done. @jonnyboy You should be able to run it under w
 ine. Unfortunitly I don't have access to a 32 bit linux system at the moment to compile it on.

Hey guys, relax.  This is not like ultrapower. Despite this being an audio game, it's not one of those where you host your own custom servers for a quick session of dmnb. No. View it like this. This is a codebase, similar to that of mud. Danny has not released the source, he's seeing if people would be interested. I'm sure he could explain it better, but yes, there is still the central dmnb server. This is the engine that you guys will be able to configure to your own type of dmnb style game, like you'd be able to do with mud code bases.

Hello... so I'm actually trying to fire up the server program on my linux server, the problem that I'm having is when I do $./dmnbserver it said, "bash. No such file or directory." I'm not sure what is going on there and I have modified the settings correctly. do I need to start the one with the .exe extension one instead?

Greetings all. So after I decided to look into making an offline version of dmnb, reading the intrest in people making audio space games as aposed to doing mud versions all the time, i've decided to release the server and client in one package for people to host their own space games, the engine could possibly be used to make other games as well. I haven't bundled the source for the server with this version specificly because I first want to see weather people are intrested in hosting their own servers. Though i've tested this on windows i've not tested it all that much, mainly because like a mud codebase this was designed to run on a linux server. Be sure to read the provided readme as that houses critical instructions on how to set the game up properly. If you do manage to set the game up let me know and i'll connect and check it out. In addition i've included an updated dmnb client that allows for the connecting to other servers as well as yours, a
