If you do select Portable, I know you can obviously select any path like a memory stick or SDCard, so in theory, I suppose so. I don't know where the portable copy is going to search for the config, unless it's just in the same folder? I didn't want to try it back in late 2010 when I was first told about it because practical me had a fully functioning copy of winamp and said I didn't need it, but once I actually looked at it, really dug into it and reconfigured it and then saw just how easy it was to take that configuration with me anywhere? It's kind of weird and interesting that you have to pull up a separate Winamp window just to use those shortcut keys, and the fact that I don't think you can customize how far the rewind and fastforward buttons take you as extensively as Foobar simply annoys me.WMP was fine, sort of I guess. I don't like how there isn't just a shortcut key for everything like Foobar but there we go. The only upside to WMP was that I could apparently burn audio to CDs, but I could never for the life of me work out how to get to the directory with the MP3s, since the interface was bogged down with (what people call) organizing options. Dragging and dropping was the other solution but, you know, that isn't as easy. It also played MIDIs slightly oddly, but that's for another time. Having said that, Foobar can apparently burn audio too, but I kept on getting write errors, which were probably to do more with the CD than Foobar, so I'm not going to blame it for that.Basically, Foobar beats all, hands down, no competition!!! Windows Media plunger was forever bothering me with how I should give them access to my music and it would sort it for me based on what MS thought was best rather than letting me do the deed. Winamp had so many, um, unnecessary little tweeks one could make to it by default that made it either look cluttered or just not work with screenreaders the way one might think it should. when you could get it to behave it was just a straight forward case of hitting x to play and v to stop and c to pause and such, and before foobar that was acceptible I suppose, but no longer.The same holds true of iTunes. As soon as you install it it wants to sort sort sort for you and put things where they think things should go. This is precisely why I love foobar. the library functionality is there, but honestly if your collection is big you're going to start struggling to use it and it may make foobar somewhat sluggish, meaning you're better off just using everything else in its toolkit which doesa work and works well, or not using foobar at all.and that's a lot of functionality, so there really is no excuse to use it. I mean, to my knowledge, winamp doesn't give you the ability to take an audio file through windows explorer through the copy function, then paste it into its window for playback. Foobar obviously does give you that option. You can do that with a whole folder provided the folder contains audio files in it. then there's all the seek functions, different playback functions, the ability to assign keys both global and nonglobal to said options, and the ability to extend all of that even further. When you take all of that into consideration and the fact that winamp is no longer actively, seriously being developed, well, the package should be rather attractive. I love it!On a serious note, the only thing I'd want now is for Foobar to sync my current settings, track position and playlist config over the cloud along with the actual audio those playlist entries belonged to with fully accessible Foobar Android and iOS apps with the same functionality, media decoders and layout. None of that library crap. I've never used a media player as a library. I don't see the point as I've got everything sorted as I like in my file system which is probably why I never got into Kodi ,though the lack of screen reader support annoyed me. None of that sort by music, videos, pictures stuff either. Re: foo youtube is very, very broken. Don't see why that is needed. The main site is very good. On the other hand, having Youtube in Foobar is just great, and the component is very good. The only thing you need to make sure is to keep it up to date. If you go to Foobar's help menu,, there is a Youtube source submenu, and there an option check for updates. That will give you the information whether you are running the latest version. In addition, in Youtube source preferences, you can enable including beta versions when checking for updates too. I believe that it is also one of the official components now, so you should be able to update it through Foobar directly as well.
