Re: keynote gold synthesizer Besides, the source that's out there on Jake's website for DECtalk is only for DECtalk 4.61 and newer, specifically DECtalk 5.0. I guess the only way you can get a hardware version is to get a DECtalk Express, which is almost like a unicorn and they're nearly impossible to find these days, even though I found a few listings for some units on eBay. Another way to get a hardware DECtalk is the DECtalk USB (which is still being sold last time I contacted Access Solutions), but unless you want to give out your credit card information over the phone (since they don't have an online shop), I wouldn't get it. The device runs a version of DECtalk 5.0, made to sound like the classic DECtalk voices, in terms of voice quality. It does sing, if you send it a text file with a utility that comes on the installation CD, if you are wondering if it can sing. How long until Dectalk goes the way of all these other old synths? True, none of us want it to, but just like there are people who move as fast as the spinning wheels of the tech industry, criticizing users who fall behind *cough* xp critics, Dectalk will soon fall into vintageland requiring people to use older windows versions to utilize it. Unfortunate, but true. Obviously, someone may pick up dectalk again, but no one can get back the original source. So even when dectalk continues, it may not be the classic sound. Keynote gold will just have to stay stuck in the windows3.1 or windows95 virtual machine. Its unfortunate but that's probably the truth. Even humanware has abandoned keynote gold in their braille note touch for the acapela voices and more natural sounding stuff. but at least decTalk is still around and works, right? Only way you could accomplish this is if you configured a tcp interface sort of like macintalk for nvda. But that's not entirely possible because...1. Keynote never had full sapi implementation from what I remember, only screen-reader specific drivers as well as native keysoft support of course. Second, sapi over tcp? Don't think so. Third, even if you got it to work, you'd only have 15 minutes of speech at a time, of course. And lol, there is no nvda keynote gold addon coming. That is a keynote presentation. It sounds simelar to most, but I agre, I like Espeak more.I didnt check out a lot of voices, but elaquonce and dectalk are ounly ones I really, really like. There are also others I heard ounly samples of, like vocaliser, that sound nice when singing, heh. Re: keynote gold synthesizer Hmm, I used to have the actual keynote hardware synth with a 286 PC. And this demonstration is a bit different sounding than that hardware synth. Also it is a bit different sounding than the keynote software synth embedded into the braille note classic, which I owned in 2000. But its ok. I remember the hardware synth was portable and could run on battery, and when the battery ran down, regardless if the synth was on or off, it would say, Recharge battery, and it would most often occur at like 2 in the morning, which would wake me up and annoy me until I got down and plugged it in.
