Re: FreeOS Project
Re: FreeOS Project @90, I could, but the problem is that as Arch gets updates the installer starts falling a part. I can't build it, so I have no wayof updating/testing my changes through my usual QA process. Here's what we'll probably do. Sometime during this year (I don't know when, because I and garrettturner have school) we'll find some time todig out the installer and begin updating it. I think a good rewrite is in order... we'll probably base it off of the latest talkingarch installer and go from there like we did when we started the project. It'll be a long road, but it (in the end) will probably result in a less buggier, safer, (possibly) faster installer that will provide more than what the current one has. When we start I'll pull this topic back up to provide updates. Re: FreeOS Project It doesn't have a GUI, necessarily, but it can get you set up with a (partially) working one. I say the word partially because not all display managers are accessible, and I don't have the ultra-advanced knowledge that the people like those who made Vinux had when they made it possible to make Orca start when the display manager starts. If someone could either direct me to up-to-date information on that with Arch Linux, or would lke to contribute, please tell me or file a pull request. Both boot mechanisms will work. Your Mac Mini is probably old enough that it will work seamlessly. Take Jacks advice, though. Finally, the system is also capable of detecting if your running in a virtual environment. If you do happen to virtualize it, it will prompt you to set up appropriate tools to ensure thigssuch as proper entropy pooling with tools like havaged (though if I'm not mistaken it uses a different toolset). Re: FreeOS Project It does have a gui as it will ask you which desktop to install. Really not sure on the mac compatibility, nothing seems to work on macs nowadays without Bootcamp assistant (though you may be more fortunate with that mac mini.) Unlike Jennix, however, this system will detect if you are under bios or uefi and boot you into the right configuration. Re: FreeOS Project @14, the steps are:1. Clone the git repo (https://github.com/ethindp/arch-installer) on an Arch Linux machine.2.
