Re: Good and accessible alternative media player that organizes your music

Quick question about foobar. So I figured out the shortcuts, but one thing i'm noticing that it does that itunes doesn't, is it takes whatever featurings an artist may have and shows them as separate artists, and if I play music form the main artist, it skips over those featuring songs as if they weren't on the album.. Any way to fix this? Tags shouldn't ben an issue cause I've been using the same files with iTunes for over half a decade lolEdit: Sorry for the typos, still getting used to this damn keyboardEdit2: FIXED IT!!! Looks like this is gonna be the one. Thanks guys!

I just don't get the point.Foobar also has a random mode which is similar to shuffle but I believe is less strict on what to play next. If you did want to use the shuffle mode, I believe it switches the playback order completely, so you'd have to go back to the default once you were done shuffling though fel free to correct me if I'm wrong. All of these are also able to have keyboard shortcuts assigned to them.Depending on the situation, I prefer using foobar's library function to using explorer.exe to browse a network location, for example.

Re: Good and accessible alternative media player that organizes your music

@8 I personally like the library function of iTunes because it let me go in order from recently added. That was pretty cool since I could just cycle through the newest shit I put in there. Sometimes I go crazy and add a bunch of new music and don't know what to listen to. Digital age as really ruined me. Lmfao.. I do have a small vinyl collection though.

Re: Good and accessible alternative media player that organizes your music

Another little media player worth taking a look at is GSPlayer. It can play the most common formats such as MP3 and OGG.One feature that I really like using is the sleep timer. It also has a playlist manager that supports shuffle and repeat.Since GSPlayer was originally developed for pockit PC, it is really light on resources.

Re: Good and accessible alternative media player that organizes your music

+1 for Foobar 2000. I'm not sure what you mean by ad-on, if you mean an NVDA ad-on or JAWS scripts, you really don't need one as Foobar is all standard Windows controls. If you ment things like plugins to play other file formats or add effects, then yes, it has loads of those. For shuffle, it has a couple of modes. You can either shuffle tracks, so it'll just play tracks in a random order, or you can shuffle by album at which point it'll shuffle through albums but play the tracks in the right order.Foobar's library is also incredibly easy to use and powerful. You tell it what folders your music is in in the preferences, and then you can sort your music either by the usual tags like artist, album, genre and so on, or just by displaying the folder structure if your tags suck or you have a prefered way of organising music. Plus, you have the option to move files if you want to reorganize your music based on tags or rename your files, you can convert between different file formats, and rip CD's with the option to download song information from the internet. The only thing which can be a bit confusing when you're starting out with foobar is that by default it doesn't have any keyboard shortcuts configured to control playback, so if you decide to try it out the first thing you'll want to do is head to the keyboard shortcuts section of preferences and configure them. Once you do that, you should be good to go.

Re: Good and accessible alternative media player that organizes your music

Foobar2000 is best, but you have to set up the keyboard shortcuts yourself. Don't worry it's not like most applications, it's an accessible process. I'd use control up/down/left/right for volume/seaking in files.
